How to Visit Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico's 'Napa Valley'

We went for a special dinner and wine pairing, and we were blown away 👏 bravo El Cielo, we can’t wait to return! We were seated in the vineyard and they served an amazing array of delicious delicacies. Although we don’t speak Spanish very well and didn’t understand all of what the sommelier or chef had to say, the experience was phenomenal. The guests around us were so warm and friendly and even went out of their way to include us in conversation in spite of our poor Spanish (lo siento!). We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to return 👏 We also LOVED the wine and picked two favorites we’ll be returning for!

Good afternoon, I had an event on June 1st and I was very disappointed. The food was average but the prices and service were not what I expected. In my case, I ordered a clam chowder for $265 pesos (around $15 dollars). They gave me half a cup of soup. 🥲 It was very sad to see that they have very high prices but they do not give adequate amounts since the clams are very cheap for the price and quantity they served me. They charged us a 20% tip which is quite high. I have gone to downtown San Diego in a group and they charge us 18% in the United States where everything is very expensive, but in Valle de Guadalupe the 20% tip is too much. They could not even give us free water for everything we consumed. In San Diego, most restaurants give you purified water for free. I really will not go to this place again. 🥲

Google
The experience to be there is amazing, the service was a little deficient since the lady that was proving the information was busy with other customers. The chocolate and wine experience was not the best experience and what we expected. But the place around is pretty nice.

Waiter had more tables then he could manage. We paid for the Degustación G&G By Ginasommelier con maridaje de quesos and waiter wouldn’t come to do the tastings. We had to keep waiving him down to even get his attention and get him to come down.

Adriana the server was amazing! It was my first time trying wines and she explained a bit of history and was always very joyful talking to her!

Very fancy villas with 3 rooms each and amazing organic vineyards all around

Just wanted to check out the vibes and wine tasting, but right at the gate they try to up sell you on their pricy wine tasting fair from 495-995 pp seems kind of pricy for 4 pours of their basic wines and poor service

Yelp
This was our first stop in the Valle and we are so glad we decided to go to El Cielo. We chose to taste whites and reds. After we finally figured out where to go to do our tasting, we were greeted by Angel. He was so friendly and upbeat. He brought out each wine at a good pace. We didn't have to wait too long between pours. He told us about each wine and highlighted the awards they've won. We ended up taking home a few bottles because they were really good. The outdoor seating area is covered from the sun and was the perfect setting for wine tasting. I couldn't recommend this place more.

Yelp
My husband and I were able to secure a wine tasting last minute here during our trip to Valle. The grounds were huge and there were tons of activities including golf cart tours, etc. we opted for a simple tour on the patio. It was very crowded, but our server was still great. Although I had a good experience, I can only recommend this as a last minute stop. It felt like a Hilton hotel in a way.

Yelp
The food at their place is really amazing. It's great for kids and it's also super relaxing.

Yelp
What we have here is a 4-star resort in 1-star surroundings. Basic concept is multiunit "houses" built around a working vineyard, within vineyards. The grounds themselves are welcoming and well maintained, but all the roads in the resort are unpaved. The dusty environment is inherent to Valle de Guadalupe and the Ensenada "Wine Route". From the time you enter the resort from Carretera Francisco Zarco (which is more minefield than paved road), you're driving on dirt. Reception and bell staff are very good. However, the guards at the entrance speak little to no English. Yes, I know it's Mexico. But El Cielo is marketing itself to Americans as a destination resort. Basic hospitality English can be expected.

Yelp
It was my first time going to Valle and we decided to visit El Cielo Winery, upon arriving you have the option to buy tasting packages or tour + tasting, we went with the tastings only, the location was very nice, the staff was super friendly and Martin our server made sure we had a great time. My favorite wine was the Rose, I ended up buying 2 bottles at the end since they were so good! we will definitely be coming back (: Thank you Martin for putting up with my friends and I #yumyum

Yelp
What a beautiful property. The view from the bedroom balcony is so peaceful & a perfect place to have morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Love, LOVE, LOVE this property. The restaurants were all amazing and service was great. On-site vans are Mercedes-Benz, super clean an on time. We did the wine "cave" tasting and while it wasn't what we expected, still delightful. The chocolate pairings were surprising, but fun.

Yelp
Five stars for the rooms. Very luxurious, we could have definitely stayed here for a week. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with large bathroom, lovely shower, sitting area and balcony. Deducted three stars because the service was so-so. Breakfast service was great. The front desk service was poor. The neighbors next to our unit brought their own 3 foot tall speaker and were blasting music late into the night. Now I'm all for a good time and celebrating but frankly this was excessive and disrespectful. We paid just as much as the neighbors to stay at the resort so we deserve to sleep at 1am. The front desk was pretty useless in doing anything about it. Really disappointed in that aspect

Yelp
We booked a cava wine tasting and it went great but when I did the reservation they required a credit card and they charge me $2.15 dollars in advanced. When we got there they charged again and I explained to them that I had already paid they told me it was pending and they charged me again it's been two weeks and they have not reimbursed me at all in that case very bad service so be aware.

Yelp
Beautiful winery! Had a wine tour with a great host. 1 star taken away due to not being a fan of 2 of the tastings and 1 star no translation of drinks for being American friendly really depended on the host you get. Nonetheless loved the option to have cocktails or beers as well. Soccer goals on the grounds were cool. To many mixes of music from the outside areas going ok all at once. The cave with the tour was a phenomenal space. Lots of fun! Still worth the drive and atmosphere now I know what I like and don't would come back and give it another go.

Yelp
This is a pretty place, with the prices being a little bit more on the higher end. We wanted to sit outside but it was pretty cloudy and cold so we sat inside instead. You're surrounded by their merch and other items for sale.. I kind of wish there was another area to sit down at that didn't look like you were in the middle of a store. We got a bottle of Malbec which was really good. Our server was okay, he only passed by once after bringing us our bottle. Perhaps if he would have been a little more attentive we would have purchased more wine.

Yelp
OH EM GEEEEEEE!! I had no idea what i was in for when my friends called and said they had 2 seats for a prix fixed dinner in Valle... it wasn't cheap (by baja standards) ...$200 pp, but it was soooo worth it and i would do it again. By the way..price included wine, tax & tip. ..so ya not as pricey as i initially felt. 6 courses ..each one better than the last one. wine was flowing the wine is good! ...others in our party work in the wine industry in Napa and they loved the wines! room was breathtaking!! i felt like it was in a Disney movie! imagine Beauty and the Beast dining room (minus the talking dishes) courses (see images for details) 1st- Black ceviche 2nd - Sheep Tzic 3rd - Duck Salbut 4th - Pork belly taco (best pork belly i have EVER eaten!) 5th - smoked sheep 6th - guava dessert. and i remember a tray of flaming tequila at about this point. ... just do it! it was one of the best meals i have ever eaten in my life!!

Yelp
Things I like: 1. Wine is pretty solid 2. It's very pretty and put together 3. Katya (She be holding this place together $$$$) and also kindly man with braces. Things To Note: 1. Automatic upsells at the front- tour was automatically added on but then there was a 30 minute plus wait for this tour that no one asked for 2. Ask how long the wait is at the front for sitting in the cellar- the cellar inside is actually really cool so I do recommend going down there- but waiting at their gift shop at the top is god awful 3. Chocolate pairing was actually pretty solid 4. I don't like their seating areas on the upstairs- for being so put together it's like weird how the vibe was off on seating areas- like no one on the inside wants to be sitting inside a gift shop- and then the outside table area doesn't feel as lux as the place would imply- like I wish they had cabana softer seating instead of like iron chairs

Yelp
This place is so classy, well put together and well ran, organized. The staff is super friendly and nice. Greeting you with a good morning and a smile and so willing to answer any questions. The house we stayed at was all to ourselves, but equipped to be broken down into 3 separate rooms if you're not able to rent the whole house. Beautiful view, man made lake with the houses surrounding it, they even have a church with active service on Sundays. We came for New Years, but if you want to come see the grapes, they say the best time of the year is around August or September. We visited the "cueva", which means cave, and that's where all the barrels of wine are kept. The wine tasting had a tour of the place, along with some history. Had dinner in one of their restaurants Latitud, food was ok, maybe I expected more, this place is so upscale. Overall I would love to stay here again, it's beautiful here.
google avatar

Pia G.

Yelp
Cute hotel! This review is for the accommodations and not so much the food since we didn't eat at the restaurants. The service during our stay and at the wine tasting was pretty great! I would stay here again. Wish I was there longer to explore the grounds.

Yovana C.

Yelp
Excellent service, good food and good wine with a beautiful view. We went early and was a familiar ambience.

Yelp
Pretty and more on the fancy side. Has tours, restaurants, shops and more. Beautiful area. A bit pricy but very relaxed and you feel like you're on vacation. Would return.
google avatar

Yelp
I bought a beer on premise, my friend bought a glass of house wine. As we were visiting the gift shop, a lady asked me to leave because I had a beer in my hand ( that I bought on premise)! I told her that and she still asked me to leave. My friend with the wine glass could stay! Way too snobby for my money! Had no other problem the rest of the day at all the wineries we went to, five in total & a roadside sangria stand( the best)! Will return to Villa Guadalupe but not here.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Great place for a night or two getaway. All the staff were great. I only wish they had a spa on site. We will ba back.

Dandy B.

Yelp
Beautiful setting, friendly knowledgeable service, and great wines!! Definitely a must visit.

Yelp
Noooooo!! We stayed at the resort 4 nights and ate at the restaurant. Husband got terribly sick from their oysters on the first night. As for the room- we got the Residence which is all 3 rooms in the villa. Came to $4,200 for 4 nights. The grounds look beautiful, the villa look beautiful but the quality is complete crap!! The big beautiful bathtub doesn't drain properly. The bathtub was installed at an angle opposite of the drain. One of the master suite sinks was plugged. Steamer didn't work. Shower Water goes from super hot to cold. Twice they were to send someone to fix and nothing. SO many beautiful places to stay in the Valle DO NOT waste your money here! Martin, the front desk manager, was completely nonchalant and no care of our feedback. We will continue to revisit VDG often but for sure will Never will revisit this place!

Cindy A.

Yelp
Beautiful property in the middle of Nowhere! Come for the food and the great service! If you know wines, this isn't the place. However, The restaurant exceeded my expectations for the location. The short rib was delicious. There were a few chunks of salt that I was able to scape off and it was perfect with mashed potatoes and carrots. The kids ordered a burger and it was a very thick burger. The meat was about an Inch and half thick! Very meaty! Hubby ordered a steak but did not let me take a picture because "I was too slow." He loved it! Overall, this is a great restaurant for the once in a life time experience. The drive was definitely the reason I won't be returning. It was about 1 hour outside of Rosarito. The prices are pretty close to US prices and the choices of wine we tried were too acidic. The best part of the day was renting the golf carts and driving around the grape vines with kiddos. We rented 2 golf carts for 30 minutes each and we all had a good time!

Yelp
I've heard so many great things about Valle de Guadalupe, so I was excited to celebrate a friends birthday and start off our wine tasting at El Cielo. The tour around was great, it was so beautiful and great to learn all about the wine. If you do the tasting/tour, you get to keep your wine glass. The service was good during the tour and at the restaurant Latitude 32. They have a lot to offer here, it was a great experience.
google avatar

Stephanie A.

Yelp
This was the view from our luxurious suite! If you are looking for a place to unwind El Cielo is the place to be. The property is beautiful, wine delicious, and incredible staff. If you make the trip out to Valle add El Cielo to your list of places to visit.

Yelp
Our friends took us here for a nice little winery tour. The tour provided an introduction to the wines made at El Cielo, and we got to hear stories about how the winery started. We also learned about the grapes and how the wines were made. It was interesting. Our tour guide was very kind. He took the time to give the tour in Spanish and English. It was efficient enough that we didn't feel like we were being left out or had to wait a long time to hear the information. He was very willing to answer our questions, too. We saw some great views and were able to sample three different wines. It was a fun time.
google avatar

Jane R.

Yelp
El Cielo was gorgeous and had delicious wines! We sampled a white, rosé and my favorite of three a 2018 reserva especial which was a Tempranillo, Grenache, Malbec blend! Gracias amigos!
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
I enjoyed my glass of wine and a cheese plate. I agree with most of reviews that it's overpriced here and feels like a local winery in Temecula or Rancho Bernardo. But, the atmosphere and service is terrific. Everybody is super nice and attentive. We tried white wine from Cielo's maker: dry, but refreshing. Again, the level of service is outstanding: you will be given all guidelines and suggestions what to try and where to go. So this place deserves a 5-star rating.
google avatar

Kacie C.

Yelp
Great property, secure, and quiet. The rooms are updated, spacious, and clean. You are in the valle so expect to see some spiders, mosquitoes, and bugs. It is not a reflection on the property and the cleanliness. We did request an early check-in, but we were not able to check into our room until after 3 PM the room that we were staying in had a shared entry, so you do have to be careful that your neighbors don't lock the deadbolt on the entry door leading to each individual room. Our neighbors did this to us unintentionally. Overall, this is one of the best places that we have stayed in the valley and we will be back. Dinner at the restaurant was decent, but nothing extraordinary, except for the service.
google avatar

Shawnee B.

Yelp
A beautiful winery with a ton to do! My friend brought me for my birthday and it was the perfect day. They had live music and a huge seating area. We had a tasty lunch before taking the wine tour they have which included samples. After we got our own private golf cart to explore the land. It was a lot of fun! After a full day, we ate at the restaurant that was on site and it was delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
(I am writing about the hotel not the winery as I could not find a listing for the hotel.) STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They never respond to emails and they overcharged me for my stay. I literally emailed them about 20 times before my stay asking about the status of my room and never heard back. Once we finally stayed there, they overcharged me and never refunded me back the difference. They obviously have horrible management. I would never stay here again.
google avatar

Avelino C.

Yelp
I tried giving this place another chance to redeem themselves so that I could change their one star review since I really don't like giving a one star review, but unfortunately they continued to give the lack of good quality service especially Fausto. So sad
google avatar

Lewis G.

Yelp
Dirt roads, you need a vehicle, you are not going to walk anywhere here. We ordered room service on the first night and put the dishes outside the room and 2 days later, it was still there, even after housekeeping had come to clean our room. I really cannot believe that a "5-star hotel" would leave old room service dishes outside your room for over 48 hours. Appalling. The food here was not good. The room service and the restaurant food was mediocre at best. I've had some amazing experiences vacationing in Mexico. This was the worst Mexican vacation of my life. Do not waste your money or inconvenience yourself by visiting this hotel. Also there were bugs swimming in the pool. The hotel is very far from any other restaurants or resorts, you're completely isolated here. Would not recommend, buyer beware. If you live in San Diego and want to visit a winery, just go visit Temecula. Do not waste your time or money on Valle de Guadalupe. I will never return.
google avatar

Staci F.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere! The wine expert on our tour was amazing! He was very knowledgeable and took his time with us. Wine was great! You can purchase wine there. They take pictures of you when you arrive with your group. It's a good souvenir. You get a wine glass with your tour. Such a fun surprise! Would definitely recommend!

Mo R.

Yelp
The hotel is on a beautiful land but that is where it ends! The rooms are big but poorly designed with dark dirty brown color or just dirty, hard to tell the difference. We paid the resort fee and over $350 per night and there was no Jacuzzi and the only pool in the resort was not even heated. The gym didn't have a TV or a heater and it was very small and outdated. Also there was no spa and the bar/lounge was closed. The restaurant on the premises is Latitude 32 and the food was ok but extremely over priced! The dinner for two was $550 plus tips. Additionally, this was my first trip to VDG which will be my last! The people were nice but the wine and wineries were not worth the premium price they charge for tasting and food. The prices were Napa range but in reality the experience is not even Temecula!

Donna M.

Yelp
We had gone on a Monday Sept 18,2023 mid afternoon did the wine tasting tourist just happen to be their 10 hrs Anniversary ....Yes had to buy wine to bring home . We decided to stay for a bite to eat as well, enjoying the atmosphere, fabulous authentic Yucatán food I so so do recommend to eat here the service was awesome. We are definitely returning one of our favorite places to eat so far.... Thank you for an enjoyable relaxing day
google avatar

Livier M.

Yelp
Loooooved this place. So disappointed that we only stayed here one night. Right from the start they were so helpful and friendly. My friend accidentally dropped her phone in the water in front of their reception lobby and staff grabbed her a bowl of rice to dry her phone. They drove us over to our hotel room despite arriving super late! Once we checked in and they carried our suit cases up they came back and brought all of us some robes. We immediately jumped into our robes after a long day of wine tasting and put on some face masks. Only downside is that the tv had limited program options so we were stuck watching some weird animal show lol. In the morning we all got up to have some breakfast on the balcony which had a beautiful view. The food was eh but their green juice was amazing. It's a little pricey about the same price as a nice hotel in napa or Temecula so that was a bit annoying but definitely worth it!
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
First time visiting this place. Staff is very friendly. Reservation is required to visit. Luckily they weren't too busy the day I went we got seated right away. I recommend getting there around 12 to enjoy everything they have to offer. Ricardo was our server he treated us amazing will definitely be return:)
google avatar

Krystina C.

Yelp
I have a week trying to get my overpayment resolved and I've received zero assistance. Ive called a total of 5 times and every time I've been asked for my contact information and assured someone will return my call. To date, no one has called me and the customer service I've received has been short of satisfying. - Update: Alejandra emailed me back (no phone call as promised all three previous calls) and still no resolution but a run around.
google avatar

Erika U.

Yelp
Beautiful place with amazing views. The food was amazing at a very reasonable price. Next time I'll be spending more time at this place since they have activities if you get there before the afternoon.

Isabel S.

Yelp
I would highly recommend staying at El Cielo Resort. The rooms and bathrooms are very nice, spacious, and extremely clean. The service is great and everyone is very friendly/happy to tell you about places to go and where to eat in Valle de Guadalupe. The resort grounds and winery itself are very beautiful and you can go wine tasting, rent bikes, etc. There is security at every entrance/exit to the resort.

Letha R.

Yelp
Cellar Cozy soft lighting with appropriate music. Flight of wines w chocolate Liked 1/2 of the presented wines, The chocolates were decadent, most delicious. Worth going to Really liked the parking attendant pointing out the constellations and stars.
google avatar

Denise L.

Yelp
Amazing from start to finish they check your temp take a nice photo and let you know where to go . We did a wine tasting but there's many options on their website , even bicycle rentals. This was our first time visiting and it's was a good experience. We had a cheese and meat board with our wine . And I forgot to mention you get to take your wine glass home for free included with your wine tasting !!!!! A fun and relaxing experience .
google avatar

Ernesto A.

Yelp
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
100% perfect..we recently stayed at their villas with 2 other couples (all wine snobs)... 4 day weekend over the top from the amazing tour of the vineyard that ended in a blast make your own blend experience to dining at all their restaurants which were 5 star IMO as a restaurant owner. We ended our stay with a private bday party in one of their wine rooms (see pics). The service was on spot and everyone had a fabulous time. The location is perfect for a day trip to Ensenada or Tijuana. Their wine is sublime !

Bea S.

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere and beautiful setting Will make more visits for sure. The wines were tasty.
google avatar

Eddie R.

Yelp
My wife and I had an amazing time at El Cielo. The wine was amazing and the food was delicious. The staff was extremely friendly and our waiter Jonathan made our experience even better! We will definitely be going back!
google avatar

'Lorena B.

Yelp
Nice place to go on a sunny day and take pictures by their grapevines, their wine tasting options are good but I feel like they don't have enough employees usually at other wineries they have a wine expert explaining the wine and interacting with you at all time at this winery the employee just gave us the wine and walked away to another table, maybe because they were pretty busy so not big deal. Overall it was a good experience nothing espectacular.
google avatar

Vero H.

Yelp
Great experience as usual. Quick 3 wine taste on the terrace today. Then lunch at El Cielo's Latitude 32. It's a must try if you're in the area.

Yelp
**4.5 stars** Spent a wonderful Saturday late afternoon at El Cielo. Yes it's big and touristy, but plenty of square footage to roam the grounds, relax, take pictures, listen to live music and of course drink wine!! We opted against the wine tours (didn't want to wait 1.5 hrs or get herded around in groups of 15-20) and were lucky to find a nice shaded table near the main building. Service was wonderful (thank you Elizabeth) and overall a nice value for the money. We had 6 glasses of wine, a charcuterie plate and a cheese plate for around $55 USD. That's some real value and left plenty of room to spend on other eats in or near Ensenada MX. Admittedly this place is not for everyone due to its large scale, kids running everywhere, and constant flow of people in and out. But for our group of 4 it was just right. Highly recommend El Cielo as one of your next stops when in the Valle.
