Where to Eat in Buenos Aires, Argentina
View Postcard for El Cuartito

Google
I’d give it a 5-star if it was only for the atmosphere—very local feel and if you like to wait for a table and the rush while you eat, you’re in the right place. Feels like a must for both locals (seems very beloved, judging by the line outside for dinner at around 8:30 PM, I also tried at around lunchtime, super crowded) and the tourists. I personally loved the atmosphere, but skipped the line as I ordered a take out. They prepared a GF pizza for me (only two options, 1. mozzarella only and 2. mozzarella, ham and peppers) which left something to be desired. But I’m sure the non-GF pizzas are great. The only reasons I went there are because it was in the same block of my hotel and it popped on Maps when I searched for GF places. I’m sure it’s not for everybody, but it is an exhilarating and rushed eating experience - especially if a football game is on, which it was when I visited. Waiters behave like friends and can be a bit rude as well for some people, I believe, but it’s all part of the charm and the long tradition the pizzeria holds. They all know each other and probably know the regualrs too. If GF options and the dough were better, it definitely would be a 5-star review, especially since the GF pizza dough is usually very simple to make and it’s difficult to go wrong with it, but they somehow did 🤣 Still, all the cheese and grease covered the tasteless dough so it wasn’t bad per se—it could also have more toppings options. The GF menu is a point for improvement though.

This was our second pizza restaurant visit. And again we selected a place that had 35K+ reviews and even older since 1936! Just wonder how they are managing to survive for over 90 years with the quality we experienced. The waiter was totally disinterested to the extent where his body language felt like "really, you want to eat here?". We order a half bottle of Malbec, two slices of pizzas and an empanada. Just like the other place, the empanada was nothing to talk about. The Fugazza was bland and hardly any cheese with very little onions. The Fugazzeta with ham and tomato was much better. On the way out we noticed the whole Fugazetta pies which seemed to be loaded with cheese and nice charred onions. I wonder when you order slices, you get the poor versions. We asked for the "La Cuenta" (the check) and it never came and our Spanish is not poor. Then we found that when you pay by credit card, you have to go to the cashier. Not an issue, if the lazy waiter had bothered to tell us that. Not a place I would go back to.

Google
Good pizza. I will not complain and would come back. But won't go out of the way. If you want to eat in, you may have to wait 1/2 hour or more.

Google
Totally different from other pizza places. It is has its own argentinean sports vibe! Pizza flavours are different and delicious.

Google
For me, the best Northern-style pizza — especially when it comes to fugazzetas. A local, family-friendly atmosphere with fair prices.

Dan Perlman

Google
The crust is fine, if a little bland. The tomato sauce is fresh, and clearly made from chopped tomatoes and garlic. And nothing else. There’s not another hint of spice or seasoning or herbs. The mozzarella, thankfully gracing only half of the pie is as oily as the aftermath of the Exxon Valdez. Come on folks, there’s so much better pizza in this city that this is inexcusable. If this place once served exceptional pizza, that day has clearly passed. On more than one visit (it seems to be a "must" for many visitors who implore me to come with them, despite my admonitions) it's been variable in quality. Sometimes good, sometimes okay, sometimes not.

Google
Was recommend this place and it lived up to the hype. Fugazetta is a must have if you love cheese. It's a thicker crust but I loved it. Really like that they sell many of the pizzas by the slice as a solo traveller as the pizzas look massive! Atmosphere is buzzing. Lots of football bits on the walls if that's your thing. Really enjoyed it. A great stop for anyone passing by!

Google
Country of tricks. Despite all the unexpected additional charges we experienced that day, the final one was the cherry on top. This place was recommended to us as the best pizza spot in the city — and yes, the pizza is truly amazing. However, at the end of our visit, they tried to trick us and charge for more than we actually ordered. Unfortunately, this completely overshadowed the good impression from the delicious food and left us with a very negative overall experience. A word of advice to future visitors: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BILLS CAREFULLY

Yelp
Pretty busy pizza place.. The line went around the building. Argentine pizza is amazing. I was 14 in Dallas when I had my first one. But I didn't appreciate it like the real deal. However, in Buenos Aires the ingredients and elements like the water, meat, fresh cheeses and elevation, made me understand why it's it own thing. In Buenos Aires, they have two kinds of pizza. The best one and thick is the Argentinian and Naples thin. The Argentinian is different, the dough is very dense and yet fluffy, and crisp edges. The traditional way has a small chunk of blue cheese in the center where it melts and webs out into the sauce and mozzarella cheese. But this place doesn't use blue cheese unless ordered. We had pepperoni, which is chunks of meat. A lot gooey cheese and about 2 lbs of 13" pizza. I had leftovers in the fridge and a few hours later decided to try cold pizza, which is the real test. The crust edges were crunchy and so good. Just go for it.. Take out available as well to avoid the long line. But like empanadas eat it hot and soon.

Yelp
I went to El Cuartito to try the Argentine pizza. The place is busy & has a lot of character. I tried a slice of Fugazzeta pizza: cheese & slices of onions. The pizza was fine, though not especially tasty.

Yelp
Pizzzzzaaaa!!! We were hungry after visiting Teatro Colon and wanted pizza for lunch. Being from California and user of Yelp, I decided to see the closest and easiest to walk. My goodness! We found El Cuartito Service was ok. Our waiter took our order and left his shift- the only weird thing: he and another waiter counted their tips in the back tables on top of the table settings which made us wonder about hygiene. Food: deliciously made- ingredients fresh- cheese galore- pizza dough extremely savory. Ambiance was great in having all soccer pictures and memorabilia on the walls. The place accommodates large amount of customers and was busy and take out was available. The place was established in 1934. The place is open until 2:00 am that tells us it is good!!! Great food!!

Yelp
When we asked locals where the best pizza in Buenos Aires is, the overwhelming answer was El Cuartito. We got here on a Tuesday night and the line was a block long, but it was worth the wait. Crisp and chewy crust covered with melted cheese that just drips off every slice. Fun atmosphere, packed with people who just want a good time with friends over great pizza. Don't miss this place when traveling through Buenos Aires!

Yelp
Pizza day! First time trying Argentinian style pizza. It definitely delivered. It's like a Sicilian style pizza on steroids! Loaded with mozzarella, pepperoni and onions, yes onions. This spot has been around since 1934 and is a local favorite, the server says the lines are usually 2 hours to get in, with the locals and visitors waiting without a problem. If you ever get a chance to visit Buenos Aires be sure to stop and eat here.

Yelp
Came here on a weekend for lunch, got the large fuggazetta with cheese. Super cheesy and heavy, definitely can share with at least 3-4 people! We had leftovers. The bread is super chewy and tasty, there's also red pepper and basil flakes. Cheese was salty and good, balanced with the otherwise not-super-flavorful rest of the bread. Good amount of onions! Was around 15k ARS, good price for the amount of food!

Yelp
We were recommended this pizza plate by a local (Uber driver) and we were quite surprised by the food! The pizza was excellent, as was the empanadas. The restaurant could use a bit of a facelift as it doesn't look much more updated than when they started in 1934, but I guess it lends a bit of charm to this establishment. The meal was extremely affordable (small pizza, an empanada and a bottle of house wine)... it actually cost less than the McDonalds meal we had the night before ... and it included a little of wine! With the multitude of pizza places in the city, this one is one to visit.

Yelp
Amazing pizza. Was packed on a saturday night but the service was friendly (considering I don't speak Spanish) and me and my sister really enjoyed our meal!

Yelp
We came to El Cuartito as part of tour! We used LandingPadBA to get a tour to the River Plate game and it included light "snacks" here. Snacks is in air quotes because It was meal! We had several liters of Quilmes which was a great way to start the afternoon! As an appetizer, we had the empanadas and WOW!!! My mother is Argentine and I've her food and this was just as good. Unbelievable taste. Then we got to the best part... the pizza. Cheesy heaven!! My favorite was the olive pizza but the Neopolitana was also good with the fresh tomatoes!! El Cuartito did not disappoint as a classic part of the Buenos Aires experiences. Not to mention, they are open late!!! Perfect. Definitely a must come for anyone looking for authentic Argentine fare and experience.

Yelp
Our first trip to Buenos Aires and everyone says we need to eat pizza at Guerín...we did... El Cuartito is much much better...more choices and better prices are only part of the story. Try El Atomíco...really good pie and we're used to New Haven pizza!

Yelp
El Cuartito is a fun pizza/parillo spot. The atmosphere was built for futbol games and it shows. It has a very cafeteria like vibe. The lighting is bright, and the patrons are loud and happy. The pizza overall is good, very Argentinian style, although a bit heavily salted for my liking. Personally, I prefer the New York slice. The service is slower than what I am used to which is fine, because as long as you have good company, it doesn't feel slow. They did mess up our order two times but they made up for it but bringing us extra. The staff could have been a little bit more :-) but now I am just nitpicking. Also, you need to at least know some elementary Spanish. English really isn't a thing here. It's a very popular spot, and we had to wait about an hour to get seated. I don't really mind waiting as long as the food was mind blowing but it's only "OK". With the combination of the slow service, the long wait, and food quality, is the reason why I took off two stars
google avatar

Yelp
The service was quick and very friendly. Excellent pizza as well, pizza was very cheesy and had a hard crust that made it even better. The flavors mixed amazing.I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I love this pizza joint but don't expect the servers to be nice when they are busy. They have a little attitude. But it didn't change my love of this pizza

Yelp
Great pizza, great ambience. A must if you are visiting Buenos Aires. Place is always full, but you can always eat standing at the counter (pizza by the slice)

Yelp
Very casual, very local place. For those of us from Chicago who like really thin crust pizza on occasion this is sort of like a Pizza Hut version of the dough. Quite a bit thicker on the edge and thinner in the center. The menu is very tourist friendly with two whole pages explaining each of the 20+ pizza combinations, the local porteños only get one page with the name of the pizza and no explanation of the ingredients! We ordered the number 17 fugazetta with ham - a blonde pizza (no tomato sauce) with mozzarella, super thinly sliced yellow onions, olive oil and thin slices of regular boiled ham. It was great with a little bit of red pepper flakes on it. Either they forgot the "cream cheese" on our pizza or it is a weird typo in the translation for the American version, but ours had lots of mozzarella which was creamy and melted, but there was not a hint of Kraft style "cream cheese" anywhere in the filling. Not that I was craving it, but people said it was a great pizza, and it was, even without the cream cheese. We also tried the draft cider which was delicious but not at all effervescent. Service was good but harried, as the place really filled up at 1:45 PM a few minutes after we had placed our order. It is a local place for sure with lots id Argentinian tourists and an occasional splash of American tourists that have heard about it through the grapevine. The lighting is bright and fluorescent. The walls are covered in posters of boxing fights, soccer team matches and racecar drivers. They only accept cash so be prepared.

Yelp
This is in the top Two best pizza parlors in Buenos Aires. No questions. Just go there. It has a relic memorabilia feel, with a true neighborhood vibe. Cold beer? Big cheesy pizzas?? Yup. This will make other experiences a bit dim. Maybe ruin pizza for you for ever :)

Yelp
We stopped by here because the reviews were good. When we arrived it was empty which was fine cuz we were hungry! We ordered 2 empanada carne picante. It's baked and not fried which was awesome: the meat flavor was DELISH!!! We loved it. We then ordered the jamon Fugazeta. And yeah it was so cheesy and lots of onion it was delish! I am very happy we came. I wish we had room to try other things on the menu but we didn't. By the time we left, it was jammed pack. Was difficult to get our waiter to get us our bill and to go box. But I guess that's a good thing when a place is crowded with the locals.
google avatar

Yelp
This pizzaria is about as Italian as they come. Very cheesy, very thick toppings. Once the place opens at 12:30, it is flooded with Porteños looking for their quick lunch. A lot of locals stand at counters to eat their lunch, though there is plenty of tables for relaxed dining. Bring your best Spanish as the waiters don't try conversing in English. Very great prices. Oh, and a chica size is plenty for two people.
google avatar

Haley S.

Yelp
We got half a fugazetta con jamón and half napolitano. Oh my gosh, everything was so freaking good! The pizza was huge and very filling so we had to take some to go. Also, know that the bottles of beer are huge. We ordered two bottles for two of us because we didn't realize the bottles were so big. We drank them anyway! The service was excellent and the food was even better. You should definitely eat here.

Yelp
I went to three of the most famous spots for pizza while in BsAs and found El Cuartito to be the best. As we did in the other spots, grabbed a muzzarella and fugazetta slice with some draft beers and stood with the locals at the counter. Absolutely love the the Argentinian pizza style and this was the best expression of it. Delicious! I am trying to figure out where I can track down this style in NYC.

Yelp
One of the best pizzerias in Buenos Aires. I'm a Chicagoan and passionate about pizza and pizza in Argentina is certainly unlike pizza in America, or Italy, and opinions abound about how it compares. I've had plenty of subpar Argentinian pizza in my time in Argentina, but there are a couple of places that stand out. El Cuartito is a famous name for pizza in Buenos Aires and rightfully so. It is my #2 choice for pizza in Argentina and the #1 choice of many friends of mine. The cheese is fresh and delicious, the ingredients flavorful, the atmosphere is charming, I really love this place. Decorated with lots of Football sports memorabilia, its got a great feel to it. If you want to try some real Argentinian pizza, come here and give it a go.
google avatar

Cristian S.

Yelp
Hey if you are in Buenos Aires you must go to this place, they have the best pizza in Buenos Aires, mozzarella, fugazeta, their empanadas are good too, you have to wait to be seated and the place is a little bit noisy but other than that the place is awesome

Catherine A.

Yelp
Great spot for pizza and people watching. Have the fugazetta a local favorite. Would recommend.

Yelp
Solid pizza joint in BA. I came here because it was recommended by many travel guides as the best pizza in BA. When you walk in, it's an old-school vibe, sports-themed pizza/bar with sports memorabilia all over the walls and TVs playing futbol. I wasn't sure how to order - whether at the counter or to sit down. I sat down and a waiter came by to ask me what I was interested in. I got the local beer - Quilmes - and two slices of pizza - the signature cheese & onion and a cheese slice. There was a lot of cheese on both slices, and it's similar to a deep dish style pizza you'd get in the States. The dough was tasty and the cheese was good too - different than what I was used to. The onion slice had a lot of onions on it, but it wasn't too overpowering. It was pretty busy while I was there with people coming in to sit and hang to eat, while others were just grabbing slices, polishing them off at the standing counter, and leaving.

Yelp
I have had great pizza in New York, Boston, San Francisco, Philadelphia and of course Chicago. I was amazed in Boulder, enchanted in Santa Fe, and surprised in Galway. But El Cuartito de las Buenos Aries just might be the best!

Robert P.

Yelp
Iconic Buenos Aires pizeria! Just has to go at the right time since usually is quite crowded with locals (there is a good reason for this, the pizza!). Look at the pics in the walls too, a who is who in Argento sport culture

Carlos G.

Yelp
Las mejores pizzas en Argentina. Uno de los lugares que siempre visitó cuando estoy en Buenos Aires.

Yelp
Closed on Mondays, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. This is the best Argentinean pizzeria in all of Buenos Aires, hands down! Not only do they offer awesome prices, but their Fuggazetta pizza is out of this world! I've been all over the world, and I seriously think Argentinean pizza has everyone else beat. For between 18 and 22 pesos a slice ($1.40-$1.70 at an exchange rate of 13:1) for to go orders, you can get a bunch of cheesy mozzarella goodness with a variety of toppings of your liking. The Fuggazetta slice was 22 pesos. The crust is crunch and thick, the cheese is melted and all over the place, and the toppings are super fresh and baked to pure perfection. I came here about 3 times while I was in Buenos Aires, that's how good it was. Not only was the pizza good, but the service was top notch. The guys are really nice and helpful. If you get it to go, it's that price. However, for whatever reason eating in the restaurant cost about a few pesos more. Well worth it nonetheless. The empanadas are also really good, about 16 pesos each if you order to go.I love the jamon and queso the best. If you don't come here while you're in BA, you'll be sorry!

Yelp
If you're looking for one of the best pizza places in Buenos Aires, El Cuartito is a great choice. Opened since 1934 this makes it a landmark for those pizza oficiobados who love extra EXTRA mozzarella on their pizza. The ambiance is bustling with locals, regulars and culinary tourists like myself who've only heard but have never had the privilege to try their popular pizzas. Old wooden chairs, tables with every inch of wall spaces is devoted to Argentine culture from photos of futbol banners/clubs, movie stars, Maradonna, Messi, River Plate, etc. For drinks, our Porteño neighbor Luis recommended 1L ofQuilmes, their local beer to help wash down the pizza. For food, we could resist their Fugazetta 5/5, overdose of mozzarella cheese with hoardes of onions (cebolla) to top it off, we order only a porcion (one slice each) which was very decadent and every bite of goodness. Following that we had their half mozzarella with olives and Neapolitan, both were an easy score of 4.5/5. If you wish to go easy on cheese the Neapolitan would be ideal as it has fresh cut tomatoes and fresh herbs. Overall great place to stop by for pizza....I'll definitely be back here when in Buenos Aires!

Yelp
Excellent pizza! We arrived around 1pm, not too busy... but it got full before 3pm. Service is very nice. Overall one of the best pizzas I've had. Very reasonable price too.

Yelp
On a recommendation from a friend that said El Cuartito had the best pizza, we decided to check it out. Since everything in Buenos Aires happens late we decided to head over around 930pm via the subte - it was only a couple blocks walk from the tribunales stop. As you look down the street you can see the large sign for El Cuartito - as we approached we were amazed by the long line of people waiting to be seated.... We jumped on the line and waited in anticipation - this place must be good when you have that many Argentinians waiting!!!!! The line moves really quickly and also gives you time to think about what you want. When it became our turn we were quickly seated and given menus. There are so many options for pizza and 2 sizes of pizza - thinking a larger would be too big we asked for a small pizza. We saw a couple next to is eating the arugula and prosciutto pizza and it looked great so that's what we had. Our drinks came quickly - my lady had a glass of moscato and I just had a bottle of soda water. When the pizza came it looked soooo good - check out the foto. I love that the pizza is served with Spanish olives, it's not super greasy and it's not drowning in cheese, and best of all I felt sophisticated using a fork and knife. Anyway we polished off the pizza quickly and realized we should've ordered a large because it was sooo good. However rather than order another pizza we decided to go for dessert and got the flan. My recommendation - make sure you put this on your places to visit - and take it from me coz I know good food.

Yelp
Absolutely awesome place. Simple, inexpensive, they've got a wide variety of flavors and decent beers. This place is an experience. They've been in business since 1934. Every time I go to Buenos Aires O go to this pizzeria.

Yelp
Fantastic!!!!! GO! We had the onion pizza. The garlic, basil and tomato. I am a meat eater and this pizza was fantastic. Get extra cheese. Fucking yum Open on Sunday also

Yelp
One of the first pizza places I went to while studying abroad in the area and it changed my life! The best pizza I have ever had and I will definitely be back for more.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was very busy but it had great pizza. We tried the fuggazetta and the one with anchovies. The pizza is a mix between Chicago Deep Dish and New York Style pizza. The pizza was flavorful and delicious!
google avatar

Carla R.

Yelp
The food is excellent. It's a place where everyone has to go. T-shirts signed by Maradona, posters everywhere. The service in the table is awful though!!

Yelp
I first visited this place way back in 2005. I wasn't impressed. I know it's a porteño icon of the pizza world. I honestly couldn't understand why, I found the quality of the pizza to be lacking. I wasn't horrible, it just wasn't "all that", and the one true flaw was the quality of the mozzarella used atop the pies. Over time, I've come to appreciate the Argentine style of pizza far more than I did then, when I had a more fixed view based on pizza in Italy and New York, for the most part, with some influence from the styles of pizzas of the midwest, like Detroit and Chicago style, still among my favorites in many ways, though much of that is simple childhood nostalgia. Kind of the way locals feel about places like El Cuartito, no? I even went back a couple of times, and there's a followup review in the comment section of the same post from a year later, where, to be honest, I found it to actually be borderline inedible. I mentioned in that second review that even some of my local friends had begun to admit that the place had gone downhill. So there I was, a week or so ago (and a decade later), out with a new friend who wanted to try a local, really classic style pizza. The biggest change, the cheese is actually rather good quality now, there were no oil slicks, there was no dripping grease, and the flavor was decent. Likewise, the crust had some flavor, and the faina was served piping hot and while not the best I've had of this staple, it was good. So, over time, for me, this place went from an "okay" to a "not recommended". At the very least I think it deserves being returned to "okay", and maybe even edging into "good". At least, I'm not going to avoid it like the plague anymore or tell people they shouldn't bother. Sometimes when people tell me I'm wrong, they're right, at least in the long run.

Yelp
When one hits that "certain age that men just want to deny", it's time to begin calorie counting. Pizza? Does that count? I'll count the number of slices of pie I'm downing and worry about my love handles later. Great pizza? no. Good pizza? sure. But above anything else, this place is an institution.
google avatar

Carlos L.

Yelp
The Napolitana pizza was very good and the empanadas were stellar. We had the empanadas de carne picante and they were cooked to perfection and had absolutely divine flavor. The pizza was very good but I think the crust could be better. I'm personally a fan of crust that is crispy and more dry than is made here. The staff was friendly and the ambiance is very casual and old country like. They only take debit cards and no credit cards so bring the cash.
google avatar

Ellen H.

Yelp
Amazing! My friend and I waited about 15 minutes in a very crowded line, but it was worth it. The pizza was amazing, and I normally don't like pizza. We shared a mozzarella pizza with some beer and then ordered the flan with dulce de leche. Even though it was crowded, we didn't feel rushed or uncomfortable. The prices were adequate and the service was to be expected of such a packed, busy place. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Buenos Aires. You might have to stand in a line around the corner, but it's worth every minute.
google avatar

George M.

Yelp
Really good QUALITY pizza.. Not like an Italian one but super ingredients... Compare to the rest in BA I personally think number 1... Good service too and good clean environment... Enjoy..
google avatar

Nikki W.

Yelp
Great pizza, busy busy. Efficient staff. If you like lovely fresh pizza, this place is for you, can also buy single slices for a quick and affordable take out. Nom nom
google avatar

Hanger S.

Yelp
Very casual pizza parlor. The staff is very cool. This place gets extremely crowded, and you have to wait anywhere from 20-40 minutes for a table. This is one of the few places which serves stout beer, so that made me very happy. Their pizza was very good. The prices on the menu are very fair, and I had an awesome experience here. Also, try their empanadas....so good!
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Unfortunately, my limited time in B.A. did not allow me to sample tons of pizza, however, El Cuartito lived up to its reputation as one of the best pizza spots in a town shockingly known for good pizza. The fuggazetta is a must-try, even if it's for only a slice. The gooiness of the cheese with the combination fo carmelized and raw onions is oh so good. They have a large selection of various pizzas and prices are reasonable (although somewhat high for B.A. standards). If you go, plan on there being a line, even if it's 10 PM on a Tuesday!

Mr. Zebra Pants... Aka ..

Yelp
Mr. Zebra Pants here to bring you a review from the South Americas. And if your in the Buenos Aires Argentina area than you already know about this place. But for a traveler passing through...you got to stop by this place at least once. My girlfriend (now wife) and I went to Argentina with her college for Spanish and Religion college credits. We visited this place for lunch one day with a few of the other students and we bought enough food to share like buffet. The pizza is different than in the US so if you compare them this is different for sure. Pizzas were not a big hit with our group. But other dishes were satisfying. Summery: When you find yourself in Buenos Aires Argentina with the munchies, grab a bite to eat in one of the oldest pizza restaurants in the city who's slogan "The Good Pizza" is a spot on description.

Aaron B.

Yelp
Incredibly decadent. One slice has enough cheese to satisfy a small family. Really enjoyed the experience, though, and would recommend you give it a try!

Yelp
Had a traditional Mozzarella Pizza and a Fugazzeta.. normally I don't love Fugazzeta.. or at least I haven't found one I really like.. I have tried!! but man this one was wonderful and YUMMY.. I have to say it is my favorite in BA!! very good.. nice waiters and attentive!! Will be back!!
google avatar

Yelp
Must go!!! It's one of those places hat actually does live up to the hype. If I had more days in Argentina would definitely return..

Yelp
Definitely worth a trip to this place if you're in Buenos Aires. Garishly appointed, overpowering fluorescent lighting, waiters who came with the place, ard rickety wooden chairs, all the frills. The walls tell a story. But the pizza is out of this world. Try the fugazzeta, with or without ham, especially if you like onions. It's loaded with cheese. You won't forget this place. Bring cash, as they do not accept credit cards. Also, they are not open on Mondays.
