Beautiful historic landmark on the island that the government has allowed to be destroyed by the elements. Desperately needs funding to reopen and restore. Closed indefinitely so could not go inside.

I recently visited El Fortin de Conde Mirasol Museum, a captivating testament to history and resilience. As the last Spanish fort built in the Americas, its restoration provides a unique opportunity to experience the past. The museum not only showcases the rich culture of the island but also sheds light on its struggles, including the impact of the US Navy bombings. Wandering through the well-preserved fort, I was immersed in the island's history, appreciating the efforts to preserve and share this important heritage. The fact that admission is free makes it accessible to all, allowing everyone to connect with the island's profound narrative. One of the highlights was the breathtaking view from the fort, offering a panoramic perspective of the various barrios. Witnessing the expanse of their journey through time, it was evident how much the island has endured and evolved. El Fortin de Conde Mirasol Museum is not just a site to behold; it's a journey into the heart of Puerto Rico's past. I highly recommend this enriching experience for anyone eager to explore the island's history and culture.

The visit should not take you more than an hour, but it's worth it. It's free and you can wander around as long as you want. You will read most of the story of Vieques and see artifacts of different eras of Vieques. The outside have great views, including cannons. I walked from Isabel II. It's about a 10 to 15 minutes walk that includes some hills.

This was an enjoyable experience for a quick day tour. It's free to the public as well. We were staying at an Airbnb just down the road from here and walked over. The small Fort offers a small type museum with a few artifacts, pictures but the panoramic views are beautiful. They're great for selfies scenic photos. I would recommend to go early because it will get very hot and uncomfortable

Such a great historical place in the hands of employees that do not want to do their job. Mixing politics and anti american sentiment was what i felt even as i im Puerto Rican i felt like we where not wanted, the gentrification speech against americans was there, even i felt it. Besides that is a structure that should be saved. To the tourism co, spend some money on it.

There were some online saying this was temporarily closed. It was opened when we visited, although the hours were somewhat restricted. We showed up at 10 AM on Thursday and it was open. One sign said Wednesday through Sunday 8 to 11 and another sign said Wednesday through Friday 8 to 12 and 1 to 4.

The fort is definitely worth going to see . I enjoyed the view and the iguanas were the best I seen on the island. The art inside on the walls was extraordinary. You could spend a short time learning the history of vieques or a lifetime. The art inside the fort ranges from present time to the beginning of civilization on the island and some of it is for sale.

Gorgeous view from the top. It took less than a half hour to go through all the exhibits. There was a lot of information and a variety of displays to learn from inside the fortress. Some of it was closed off due to damage from Hurricane Maria but I hope they are able to make those repairs soon.
