Mexican Street Food: 5 Essential Dishes to Eat - AFAR

"A historic Mexico City establishment operating since 1935 that claims to have invented the huarache; famous for fried masa 'sandal' bases piled high with salsas, onions, cilantro, various meats and a sprinkling of queso fresco—widely regarded as a benchmark for classic huaraches in the capital." - Meagan Drillinger

Been coming back for almost 15 years. Great food & service. Make reservations if you plan to come early, it gets crowded before 12. Cafe de olla & Consume con carne are a must.

Food wise, this place deserves a 20 out of 10. Huaraches are amazing. Service could be better but it is because they are so busy they can barely pay attention to customers. The place is mostly crowded, so that's another "bad" point... But you could order to go and you would avoid the last 2 points. But a must visit place if you are visiting Mexico city.

Do try the food here, it isnt a michellin star restaurant. It's good traditional Mexico City food and inexpensive.

Very nice place for authentic Mexican food. Meats were marinated and extremely tender.

Meat was tender and the aguas frescas were indeed freshly squeezed

Even though there is a wait list you get seated pretty quickly. Tasty food and affordable price, good option if you’re nearby.

This is one of the city's best places to try huaraches. They are well stuffed with frijoles (refried beans), slathered with excellent salsa (most of us in my group prefer the salsa verde), and topped with large but thin slices of meat. The consomé de cordero is also excellent.
