El Icaco

Not a terrible place to stay. Rooms were okay-ish, a bit dirty though (our ceiling fan was very dusty). Very basic amenities in the room. Ants were an issue! But, it’s obvious since you’re basically surrounded by the jungle. Be careful with bringing in sweets into the rooms. A nice plus was having the beach so close. Also, the staff were very kind and helpful. Breakfast was good, free coffee and water basically all day throughout the stay.

Great stay in Tortuguero! We loved the position, beach front and a 5 minute walk to the town centre, which gives you the chance of seeing the daily life of the town, meeting the locals and the dogs. The staff was super nice, special mention to Nicole, a nature lover and a smiley soul always ready for a chat. Breakfast is super nice, with different choices. The room was kind of small but you don’t normally spend a lot of time in rooms on this kind of trips. Would totally return!!

We stayed at El Icaco for 1 night and were very happy here. They have a great location right at the beach and very close to the Jaguar trail. The rooms are incredibly basic (but you're not hanging out in your room anyway!) and 1 of our 2 beds was very uncomfortable, but the staff are great, the pool was refreshing, and most importantly, the beach is incredibly close and we were able to watch turtles hatch in the evening. The next morning there were tracks from turtles nesting, so you might be lucky enough to catch that as well!

The hotel is next to the beach and not to far from the town center. They take really good care of you, if you book online there is someone waiting at La Pavona (the place you get on the boat to Tortuguero). They tell you how to get the boat and tell you about the tours and can book the tours with them. If you arrive at het docks in Tortuguero the is another person waiting for you to take you to het hotel. ||The hotel itself has friendly staff and the rooms are clean and if you stay for more days they clean your rooms and fold the new towels really nice.||The tours were amazing, we had a tour with over 20 years of experience and we saw so much!

While on a 9 day EF tour of Costa Rica we spent 2 days at El Icaco In Tortuguero Costa Rica and it was an experience only way to and from this island is by boat which takes 45 minutes to an hour. Hiking through the trails, Caribbean Sea views and shopping in the village as well as several boat tours on the river of Tortuguero. One of the most enjoyable moments was meeting the host of El Icaco was Joshua, he has an amazing spirit and infectious smile. A very humble man that took care of us during our stay. Whatever we wanted or needed he provided with no hesitation. You can tell he loved seeing us visitors and welcomed us warmly. I will definitely return just to see Joshua and the views of the beach.

The staff at this hotel are magnificent! They are incredibly friendly and accommodating. We stayed with a school group for 2 nights and they interacted with the students and adults as well. They got to know our names. The food was phenomenal!! We were hoping for authentic cooking and that's what we got! Rooms had A/C and hot water, pool was great!

Great value hotel in Great location right on the beach. Friendly staff, especially Joshua. They greeted us from the boat and arranged our tours with Carretta Tours who were also brilliant. Comfortable clean room, we had a deluxe with a/c very welcome in the heat! Lively little swimming pool ideal for cooling off after a hiking tour, great tasty breakfast gallo pinto or pancakes.
