On the Grid : El Inca

"El Inca offers a home away from home for South Americans in Cologne by offering incredible, authentic food in a slightly cheesy setting under street level, colourful cocktails included. From anticucho to lomo saltado, the variety of South American comfort food is a taste of Peru like none other in the city. Our go-to is a ceviche de pescado, a side of yuca fritta, with a flan to top it all off. Come and enjoy the quirky decor and latin music while you drink a pisco sour cocktail - it’s a guaranteed fun time." - ONOGRIT

We went to Cologne for the weekend and decided to give this place a chance after reading all its good reviews. Place was full on a Friday night but we were still able to be seated quickly. It’s nicely decorated with different objects from Latin America, wooden tables, etc. First thing was: the drinks are so big! I LOVE cocktails and being able to get them in a decent size for around 10 euro made me very happy. They also have a “happy hour” for cocktails which makes them even cheaper in certain times so def worth it. I really liked the food, we were able to try some different dishes and they were all very delicious, their meat tender and the sauce that came with it was a bit spicy but also delicious. Cassava was good, nice nachos and the ceviche was also delicious. Good food portions. The waiters were very friendly and the restaurant itself has a good energy with people talking and some nice music. Will definitely come back here next time I’ll be in cologne :) 10/10

Google
A really good Peruvian restaurant that serves delicious and authentic meals and drinks from Latin America. Excellent service, very fast and friendly. Available in German, Spanish or English. Happy hours offer 5€ drinks on select days until 8PM. Drinks and food portions were generous. Everything was delicious. Would absolutely come back if I lived in this city! Can pay with card or cash.

Me again 😁, Today, I visited the restaurant and unfortunately, I can't recommend this place at all. Tho the restaurant was half full, we had to wait in order to give our orders. The first dish was the ragout with chicken. The regout was on 2 potatoes and with rice. In my opinion, the rice was not done. The ragout was nothing special and I have had the feeling that the ingredients were not fresh and more convenience food. The same feeling did I have with the other dish, was the one with tortillas. I did not could finish it. The tortillas were tasting like nothing. I also post the the bill in order to show that I was here. So, absolutely can't understand the good reviews. No recommendations on my behalf.

Im Latino so I know about South American food and I need to said that this place is top on my list not only in Cologne also in Europe, the taste of the ingredients are really authentic (I would love to know where are they shopping everyday) 🙈 I had Guanabana juice and Lulo which was amazing and reminded me to be in Colombia, the prices are good as the quality is perfect and the staff are really friendly to help you with your order, definitely I will like to recommend you this place and just try as many options as you can, hope to go back on my next holidays One plus is that is open in Sundays and is most then perfect to go with your partner to have a new place to discover (as I did and it was a perfect idea)

Google
Very authentic South American food. Staff is very attentive and the restaurant is well frequented. That's also the main problem though as it's in a cellar and has not that much room. Sitting near the door is also not that great as it's cold due to the poorly insulated entrance. All in all it's worth it though as the food is really good.

The food was amazing and the sheer amount of options from different Latin American countries is incredible. We went with the fish and were not disappointed and had a delicious mocktail with it. Would definitely recommend also because of the heartfelt decorations.

Google
Great restaurant with excellent Latin American/Peruvian food and decor - as a Brazilian, I felt right at home! Generous portions, food came quickly (despite the restaurant being quite full) and was very well spiced. Drinks were also quite good. Would definitely return and recommend!

The restaurant is very cozy and the atmosphere there was pretty nice. It feels like I‘m dining at someone‘s kitchen. The food didn’t look fancy from how they were presented on the plate but the flavor was nice 😊

Yelp
The food at this restaurant is amazingly good! No regrets! The owner accommodated us. You do need reservations, but is totally worth it. We visited twice on the same weekend and the food did not disappointed. Service was outstanding.

Yelp
Taco tour! This place is really great, with awesome food, and great prices. The atmosphere is also pretty much Latin! I had Tacos and i gotta say, even though they were not like mexican tacos they were really really good! But i was truly amazed with the Tamale! It was just as i know them from Mexico! Kudos!!! it was kind of difficult to order something because the menu looks soooo good! I will definitely go back and try something different, i loved everything i tried. Plus happy hour is really cool, and also they have XX Beer! What else could you ask for? Oh yeah WiFi would be good, because as the place is located in a basement there's as good as no cell signal. Nice friendly staff, but from time to time a bit slow/hard to find. But nothing really bad!

Yelp
Was here for a Yelp event and was pleasantly surprised. The place seems hidden; walking down the steps revealed a lively restaurant with lots of interesting wall art. We made it for the 3.50 cocktails for happy hour; hubby got the mango daiquiri and I got the pina colada, which were both delicious and fresh. The ceviche was out of this world. I ordered the #47 (combination tacos with ground beef, beans, sour cream, etc. on corn tortillas). It was ok but a bit too salty. Hubby got the #45- tacos with beef and vegetables- which was very delicious. Would definitely recommend this place. :) Was also great to get to know fellow Yelpers. Looking forward to more Yelp events on the future!

Yelp
Very nice local Latin restaurant... the ambience is great, signs all around and very colorful place. The food was yummy: had the mixed plate for two people #66. Very good if you are a meat lover and came with some nice fried potatoes. The drinks are nice for happy hour as well. The monitors are delicious! Will be returning on Thursday for Mojito night one of these days for sure!

Yelp
Walk down the outdoor staircase, and enter into this Peruvian gem. This place is quite hidden, but once you stumble upon it and open the door, wafts of delicious garlic and spices heighten your senses! I ordered the mixed seafood ceviche and the chicken burrito. The ceviche was awesome! So refreshing, hints of spices, and the perfect amount of tang! Order a side of chips to use it as your shovel :) The chicken burrito was a bit on the disappointing side... a tad bit salty, but overall good flavors. The disappointing part was that there wasn't a lot of chicken in it.. it was just filled with sauce, sauteed onions, and a few pieces of chicken.. where's the meat?! Great flavors, abundant amount of options, but a few missed points here. Glad I tried it it, and will be back to check out other options :)

Yelp
Not sure why it took me so long to write a review here, but this place is where it is HAPPENING. The food is delicious and they do a really great job with the meat. My favorite here are the home made yuca fries and the bread basket with home made aioli, and the gambas al ajillo (Spanish garlic shrimp cooked in garlic oil) it is absolutely delicious. It gets pretty packed during dinner hours on the weekend so reservations are recommended, weekdays however, there usually is space for walk-in.
