"Just an hour’s drive from the busiest town in Laikipia County, El Karama Lodge feels like a world away. Set on 14,000 acres of private land, six cottages and two riverfront cabins are simply decorated with locally sourced stone and thatch and regionally made furnishings, giving emphasis to the lush natural surroundings. If total immersion is more your speed, the staff can arrange a personal fly camp before your arrival: after a hike to a remote location, you're greeted by a suspended tent with a clear view to the night sky, complete with comfortable bedding, a drinks table, and a small barbecue. What you won't find here? Cell service, though you'll hardly miss it. A drive through El Karama land is almost certain to include sightings of elephants, giraffes, and zebras, but guests can also see creatures that are unique to northern Kenya, including gerenuk and Laikipia hartebeeste. Back at camp, there’s nothing to do as darkness sets in but lie back, stargaze, and listen to the calls of the wild."

El Karama is one of the most special places we have ever stayed.||The wildlife experiences were exceptional - Sami deserves a special mention - he absolutely made our stay. His knowledge and passion really stood out. Every drive was incredible and felt tailored to us - we had breakfast mid drive by the river and sundowners where Sami explained his background and played football with our son. The bush school was a great mid-morning activity. ||The camp itself is stunning — comfortable without ever feeling overdone, with incredible views, delicious food, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes it very hard to leave. We stayed in the Hobbit House and ‘our’ resident Dik Diks were so fun to watch from our bed. ||We will be back — and we’ll be asking for Sami again without hesitation.

A little behind in writing this review, but this was a fantastic stay with beautiful memories for all, that we are still talking about!!|I should start by thanking my travel planner, Mark from Gondwana Safaris for recommending this place. I was trying to find a place that was suitable for a multi generational family holiday and El Karama was perfect for us. We were from ages 4-67 😊 and everyone had a wonderful time. |We stayed at Nilotica Private and both the staff and accommodations were top notch. The daily Bush school was great for the 4 kids under 10 in our group. Robinson was phenomenal with the kids and as our guide. This was my 4th safari, so I would call it a slower paced safari, geared towards the whole family experience, which was my goal.|We did a day trip to Ol Pejeta which I would definitely recommend, got to see rhinos up close, both in the wild and in the sanctuary. I would highly recommend El Karama for a family friendly destination.

Recently stayed at El Karama Lodge with a group. Every aspect of El Karama was incredible. The accommodations are beautiful and comfortable. The staff is wonderful and attentive. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and we saw so many of the animals we went to Africa to see. The food is incredible and much of the produce is grown on the property and locally grown. El Karama is an incredible destination and highly recommend it. Hope to return for another visit.

El Karama (Nilotica House) was absolutely beautiful in every respect. It was our first safari experience (four adults and four teenage girls) and our guide, Robbie, was exceptional. The team at the house were also incredible including Joseph, Lamik, Jane, and Niamburra. We felt so welcome, safe and so inspired by the place, people and animals. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Everything was perfect including the food, the setting, the bedrooms, the service and the overall experience. Memories for a lifetime! So special and highly recommended.

We had an amazing stay at El Karama Lodge this September and loved every moment of it. The service and attention to detail were outstanding, and the food — much of it coming straight from their garden and ranch — was delicious. Joseph and Elizabeth were wonderful hosts, and our guide John was a pleasure to spend time with. We really enjoyed having a private vehicle, which allowed us to go wherever we wanted, take our time, and get all the photos we hoped for. A very special memory was the surprise bush breakfast to celebrate my husband’s birthday — such a thoughtful touch. For a day and a half we were the only guests in the lodge, which made it feel like we had the entire conservancy to ourselves. Between lunches by the pool, dinners by the fireplace, and incredible wildlife sightings — including lions, cheetahs, and leopards — these three days will stay with us forever. And yes, it is absolutely worth the 1 hour 50 minute bumpy road from the airport — the experience on arrival makes it all worthwhile. We highly recommend El Karama Lodge.

My husband and I have been on safari half a dozen times before and we picked El Karama for our multi-generational holiday on the advice of our (long time) Africa agents, Native Escapes, as the perfect first safari experience for our seven-year-old granddaughter. How right they were! We have stayed at more luxurious lodges and at basic lodges, at lodges where the wildlife is teeming and in the Kalahari where you go a while between sightings. This lodge struck us as the most delightful of all.| I wasn't sure if my shy granddaughter would take to the daily Bush School but on the first morning she went off hand-in-hand with John, our guide, and came back full of excited stories. He and Nyambura gave us the most thoughtful care during our stay - there was a genuineness to it, rather than that professional kindness one routinely encounters. The food was fantastic - so healthy, fresh and unusual that I kept making notes of recipes to transfer to daily life in the UK. We have so many special memories and our granddaughter has a plaster cast of a lion paw print she made with John as a forever memento. Thank you, El Kakarama, for the magic.

We had a brilliant stay at el Karama, the game drives were excellent, with lots of unusual animals, including Aardwolf, striped hyena, leopard and bat eared foxes as well as elephant ,hippo and giraffe. My daughter loved bush school with John, all the staff were friendly and hospitable and the accommodation was great. Best of all, the food was supreme too!

We had the loveliest stay at El Karama. The team (shout out to Sammy, Wachira, and Joseph) went above and beyond to ensure our family was well taken care of throughout our stay. It is a very kid friendly place with a great pool and bush school activities for children to give parents a break in the middle of the day. They even provide babysitting at night so you can enjoy your dinners. The conservancy is also stunningly beautiful. Would love to stay here again down the road!
