"Mexican bites, Sydney El Loco does an excellent taco for a fiver. A crunchy tangle of chopped cabbage, coriander, spring onion, and a spiced mayonnaise done in messy zigzags over the lot arrives at our table. Little cubes of "mystery" meat, offal perhaps, are tender and packed with flavour. El Loco’s safer selection of $5 tacos – chicken with sweet corn salsa, chilli marinated tofu, prawn and salsa verde and lemongrass beef, are also good. El Loco is a flip-flop, sand-in-the-shorts kind of place, though it tends to attract a suited or hipster crowd. Mexicana cactus and sunset mural walls suggest tequila is consumed to fit a general festive hot sun vibe, not just to get drunk. For the jalapeno margarita, the barman shakes up a shot each of Herradura Reposado Tequila, Cointreau, roasted jalapeno syrup, lime juice and a wash of Ilegal Mezcal agave with some clunky icecubes, and throws it in a clear plastic cup with some roasted jalapenos. It’s a sweet and acidic muddle of completely awesome. Two in our party get the Excelsior hot dogs ($9) because of ordering envy on a previous visit to El Loco. The foot-long dawg is a grilled pork Frankfurt in an almost-as-long soft bun. Picked jalepenos are hidden in there, and the top is laden with pico de gallo, a fresh finely chopped salsa of tomato, white onion, chilli and lime juice, then it’s squiggled with mayonnaise and so much cheese. Both diners held their bellies while I ordered another taco."
I recently visited, and I have to say, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious—flavorful, fresh, and authentic Mexican cuisine. From the chips and salsa to the tacos and enchiladas, everything was perfectly prepared.
The highlight of the visit, however, was the service. Laura, the manager, was exceptional. She was friendly, attentive, and really made sure we had everything we needed. It's clear that she takes pride in her restaurant, and her passion for excellent customer service shines through. She checked in on us a few times throughout the meal, making sure we were happy with everything.
The ambiance was warm and welcoming, and the restaurant had a lively, yet relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend this spot for anyone craving great Mexican food paired with excellent service. Laura and her team truly make the experience memorable!

El Loco at Excelsior is an exceptional Mexican cuisine pub located in the vibrant heart of Surry Hills, Sydney. This establishment stands out with its stunning architectural design, both inside and out, creating an inviting atmosphere that captivates visitors from the moment they arrive.
Upon entering, I was immediately struck by the positive energy in the room; smiles adorned the faces of patrons, and the staff exuded enthusiasm for their roles. Each team member appeared genuinely engaged in providing excellent service, making my experience even more enjoyable.
The ambience is beautifully complemented by the decor, which reflects the lively spirit of Mexican culture. The cuisine offered aligns perfectly with the character of the neighbourhood, enhancing the overall dining experience.
The manager was exceptionally welcoming and confident in their service. I was pleased to find that my food arrived promptly within 30 minutes, despite the bustling crowd—a testament to their efficiency.
Now, regarding the food: it was nothing short of extraordinary. I ordered chicken wings, a burrito bowl, and two delightful drinks to share with my aunt.
The wings were served first; although I initially found a small hair in my dish, it was swiftly addressed. The moment I tasted the chicken, I was astounded by its flavor—these are undoubtedly some of the best wings I have ever encountered in Australia. They were perfectly cooked—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavour.
The burrito bowl also exceeded my expectations. Each ingredient tasted fresh and well-prepared; the chicken was cooked to perfection, and the rice had a delightful texture that suggested it was made with care. The accompanying toppings were equally impressive.
The drinks complemented our meal beautifully, further enhancing our overall experience at El Loco.
In summary, El Loco at Excelsior has quickly become one of my favourite spots in Sydney. From the moment I entered to the last bite of my meal, I felt compelled to award this establishment an outstanding rating—definitely deserving of more than just five stars.
El Loco exemplifies excellence in dining and holds three Michelin stars for good reason. This review reflects my genuine admiration for this remarkable venue. I highly recommend visiting El Loco; it should be a priority on your itinerary when exploring Sydney.
It is perplexing that this establishment only has a 4.2-star rating; it truly deserves much higher recognition.
I wholeheartedly recommend El Loco at Excelsior for anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience.

Came here with a few friends and we were all so satisfied. We ordered a wide variety of food and my favourite is the mushroom quesadillas - the texture of the mushroom somehow resembles meat. The tuna tostadas are also delicious and fresh.

Cam at the bar was an absolute king. Knew his shit. These guys do the greatest spicy marg in Sydney. Rim is spectacular, cocktail is even better. Candied jalapeno is icing on the cake. Definitely get down here for a jug. You're missing out if you don't get here.

Only rating the food, didn’t try the hotel.
Dropped in for a quick bite around lunch, got three tacos, chicken, pork and fish.
All tacos were great and of decent size, the best of three was the fish taco, had great flavours to it and a he fish felt fresh and crispy.
The pork taco could do with a bit more edge/flavour, and the chicken taco was good.
Very good location, fast service and decent pricing. Would recommend

El Loco is a good choice for crunchy nachos(supreme nachos in the photo🤌), margarita in the jug and have fun time with friends. Also diy tacos are good.

Merivale seriously ? I never rarely leave 1 star reviews but this one really pissed me off.
This joint is not up to standards. What a joke! They open at 11but you can’t order food until 11:30 only drinks but that’s a lie ! The app scan to order the food doesn’t work properly. So you’re left waiting to see if anyone staff would come at all.
They really need to improve their customer service experience. They don’t care about their customers at all. Very disappointed.
*no acknowledgment (water on table etc)
*serves other people before you even though you waited 30 min to try order food.
*app to scan menu lags
*NO PARKING (street parking paid ticket)
GOOD LUCK
