Was shopping at Jersey Gardens mall all afternoon and needed FOOOOOOD! (Preferably not mall food) so we decided on Mexican.. Yelped Mexican places nearby and found El Mirador which is about 5 minutes away from the mall!
Place was completely dead when we came in, we were the only people there, but it seems like they get a lot of take out orders. The waitress came right over with menus. She was a cute, polite young gal!
We got the sweet plantains and an empanada for an appetizer. Plantains we're OK, not much flavor. At other Mexican places I've been to they serve different sauces with the plantains, some even serve cinnamon with them which is deliiiish! My boyfriend enjoyed the empanada (I didn't try it)
I got the Chilaquiles which is tortilla chips, shredded chicken, lettuce, sour cream, cheese, and your choice of red or green sauce (the green is spicy). Holy mother of God the thing was huggggeeeee. I shoveled it in my mouth like it was my last meal on earth though. Could only finish half. The tortillas on the bottom got soggy after a while. My boyfriend got the burrito which the waitress warned him was huge... it was... and somehow he finished 3/4 of it. He liked it. I tried a little piece of his burrito and it was good I must say, and I'm not much of a burrito fan.
If you're in the area wanting some authenic Mexican food I would definitely recommend El Mirador. Support local/family businesses!
