El Misti Hostel Ipanema

I had a great stay at El Misti Hostel Ipanema. The location is absolutely perfect—just a short walk to the beach, with plenty of places nearby to rent chairs, grab food, have drinks, or shop. The hostel itself has security at all times, which made me feel safe during my stay. It also has a very social atmosphere, so it’s super easy to meet new people. One thing that really stood out was how clean everything was. The cleaners come in twice a day to tidy the rooms and bathrooms, so the space is always fresh and well maintained. The reception staff were also incredibly friendly and helpful. The only downside is that it can get quite loud late at night since the street outside stays busy, and the windows are a bit thin—so definitely bring earplugs. It’s also a bit more expensive than some other hostels, but honestly, the comfort, cleanliness, and convenience make it worth the price. Overall, highly recommended!

Great location, friendly staff, and very clean but unfortunately some down sides. For what you get it’s very over priced, beds are not comfy, lights in the beds do not work, and some of the beds are placed in such an awkward cramped position that it’s extremely difficult to access the locker so really you have to hope that you are lucky and get one of the "nicer" beds. Good stay for 2 or 3 nights to meet some people and party but not much more. Also the pedra bonita hike they organize is a a rip off. What made me upset is you pay to join but yet they still make you pay your uber ride there/ back? I only joined under the impression that they would organize the transportation there so at that point you’re just paying for a tour guide which you do not need for that simple and safe hike. Beautiful hike but better to just go on your own or invite others to join you.

I love Rio and have been there previously but it was my first time actually traveling solo. I was looking for a place where you can easily interact with other travelers and that also happened to be in a safe neighborhood close to the beach. This place was it! It’s a bit far from the center but I honestly was not looking for that, I loved waking up and being able to walk by the beach every day. Also, Misti guests get a free chair and umbrella at the beach which is awesome!

Ideal location, just 1min away from the beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful, Jojo and especially Thiago who was amazing with me. I had a very comfortable private room. El Misti organize a lot of activities on a dailu basis which is great to visit, have fun, and meet people Perfect hostel !

Very nice hostel with a lot of fun. Friendly helpful staff, they give good tips and offer many different activities and parties everyday. |The Santa Teresa/ Lapa tour was given by enthusiastic volunteers Zac, Maria and Wellington. We visited standard places like the escadaria Selaron, but also nice more hidden viewingspoints. At the end we had a nice lunch with the group.

Very social and fun hostel in the best location with events everyday! Loved having an e suite bathroom and the beds were comfortable. The staff are amazing, they'll go above and beyond and will help you out with anything you need! Especially Eric and Effy gave me a lot of recommendations and were helping me plan my trip, big thanks!

So glad I stayed here earlier this year. The staff were absolutely lovely (even when a guest was being unnecessarily difficult), the location was fantastic for the beach/shopping/getting around Rio, lockers were very spacious and rooms were tight but quiet and with comfy beds. Would stay again!

Great staff, especially Chrystal. Also the beds are nice, at least the 8 dorm is. Read a couple bad reviews on the 12 dorm. We didn't have anything to complain. Also AC working perfectly.
