El Misti Hostel Ipanema

I had such an amazing stay at this hostel. The atmosphere is super friendly and welcoming, everything is clean and organized, and the location is perfect. You meet awesome people from all over the world here. But the real highlight is Erik and Crystal. From the moment I arrived, they made me feel at home. Always smiling, always ready to help with recommendations, plans, or just hanging out for a beer and a good laugh in the evening. You can tell they genuinely care about the guests and love what they do.

The staff and location is really amazing!I recommend this place to young people who want a good experience!

I had a great experience the staff were so nice, helping and caring. They took care of any problem we had and were full of joy. The rooms were clean, and were taken care of every single day. The hostel has plenty of activities and is very friendly and has a great atmosphere. Ephie from the reception was lovely and treated each person who stayed in the hostel with a smile and a pleasant welcoming. I highly recommend this terrific place.

We had a great time in El Misti. They organized a lot of nice activities and the staff is super friendly! Shoot out to Eduardo who welcomed us warmly and helped us taking our luggages upstairs

I have very mixed feelings about this hostel because I made a lot of friends here and the staff were nice but my experience with the rooms were very bad. My room has no air conditioning and I was staying here for over a week. It was so bad that nearly every person in my room kept complaining on the group chat to turn it on. It was like a sauna in the room my hair wouldn’t even dry it was so humid and I have not this problem ever travelling South America. It was so bad that the last night one of the staff came in and said it was so bad that it was my right to switch rooms. I wish they would have told me it was my right to switch rooms all of the other nights I had to be there sweating and overheating. Once they switched me to a female only room the experience was way better but I had to do this in the middle of the night around midnight and on my last night. I am really disappointed with my experience. I would recommend not staying here if you get hit easily or choosing a female only room if you are a woman. My experience here would have been a thousand times better had I actually been able to get a good night sleep with air conditioning. I ended up getting really sick here from the lack of sleep

⚠️ Avoid This Hostel – Misleading Policy ⚠️ My brother booked this hostel for Carnival through Hostelworld. The reservation was clearly marked FREE CANCELLATION in large, prominent text. That is what I relied on when making a $600 booking. He canceled weeks before Carnival, within the stated free cancellation window. when rooms are easily resold. Only afterward did he discover that the hostel enforces a stricter policy **hidden in the fine print directly contradicting the bold “free cancellation” displayed during booking** They charged me $600 and refused to refund it. He contacted them multiple times in good faith seeking a reasonable resolution. They refused. He actually had to shorten my trip because of them! Advertising “FREE CANCELLATION” while relying on conflicting small-print terms is misleading. This is not how an honest hostel operates. Book here only if you are prepared to lose your money.

Loved my stay at El Misti Hostel Ipanema! Huge shoutout to Effy and Juan — Effy is a wizard at the front desk, organizing tours, soccer matches, and helping with everything, while Juan keeps the tours fun and full of good energy. Both work hard and keep the vibes high. I stayed in a 6-bed dorm with a balcony overlooking the street corner — super comfy beds and even a shower in the room. Perfect spot, great people, and an amazing atmosphere!

It's a nice little hostel right next to bus lines and the metro station. The receptionist are even helpful in regards to giving great advice on non touristy things to do in the area. Also if you ask nicely a receptionist would even turn your room a/c on early as the rooms can get extremely hot and the fans are just not enough. I was in a small four person dorm and felt as if I was going to melt. Also, if you'd like to save money get water from a neighboring store as the water at the hierro can be a little pricey. Even the food! Download Rappi or just walk around to the different food places in the area. Although, they'll all be kinda pricey as well. I did LOVEEEE that the hostel was so close to Ipanema beach and if you enjoy sunsets like I do, this is the best area to see them. While there were minor things I didn't like about the hostel (the smoking on the balcony) I still really enjoyed my stay here nonetheless.
