What a FABULOUS Hotel the Moderne in Gijon is. Beautiful rooms, incredible staff and service and in the perfect location. My partner and I booked a Suite with a terrace on the 6th floor and could not have been happier with our choice. The room was chic and very quite for a city hotel. We included the breakfast each day and it was delicious and just enough to give us the extra boost to explore the Gorgeous city of Gijon. I intend to travel to Gijon again, and look forward to staying here again.

Be warned: the lower floors have no soundproofing, and street noise from nearby bars makes it impossible to sleep. Even with earplugs, we were awake all night. We asked to switch rooms but were told none were available. Only after we decided to leave and booked another hotel did the staff suddenly offer to move us. In addition, the HVAC system was not functioning properly. The vents were covered in visible dust, and the air felt unfiltered. The rooms are so dimly lit that you don’t notice how dirty they are at first. The air conditioning wasn't working and it was summertime. This was the only bad part of our birthday trip, but it nearly ruined our vacation. We are still disputing the charge with the hotel.

El Moderne Gijón is a very good all-rounder — a typical city hotel, but on the better side. The location is excellent and makes exploring the city easy. The staff were great throughout, especially the lady in the bar in the evening who really stood out for her friendliness. Rooms are comfortable and nicely done. The only point to improve would be the breakfast: there’s little variation, and with so many great cafés around the hotel, it’s almost better to step outside for a morning bite. A solid choice for a city stay in Gijón.

Excellent location and wonderful staff. We booked one of the junior suite attic rooms and it was perfect. Nice veranda and very comfy bed. Breakfast was great. Coffee and buffet. The waiter gave us steamed milk which was perfect. Highly recommend it. Parking close by. Restaurant recommendations by staff were perfect as well.

Decent hotel. No parking on site, although lots nearby. Front desk service was nice. Air conditioner is no good. Breakfast needs and upgrade, i don't recommend getting it as there are plenty of good options near by. -edit for reply.- lol, we did call the front desk to ask about the air conditioner. we were told that there was nothing wrong with the system, we just had to close the windows. the window were not open. we asked for a fan and were told that none were available. we still made the most of the situation given the discomfort. what makes you think that i would not have complained to the hotel staff? weird response to be honest. 1 point off.

EDIT: The hotel claims in their response below that they offered to change my room. This is a downright lie, I had asked for a room change for three days straight and was told none was available. I asked again before checking out early and was told nothing was available. Very dishonest of them to lie about it now after the fact. Avoid this place at all costs. I booked this hotel for my wife’s birthday and we checked out three nights early on my wife’s birthday because it was so loud in our second floor room every night and we could not sleep at all. The rooms are clearly not soundproofed and you can hear every noise from the street below. If you look at other reviews you can see the same complaints. Despite the fact that I checked out three nights early the hotel refuses to refund my money and is charging me for those three nights that we did not stay. Additionally the room was dirty with a stained carpet, dust all over the bed headboard and furniture, no coffee maker or tea pot in the room and no mini bar. Absolutely not a four star hotel. Avoid at all costs and stay somewhere else in Gijon.

A hotel that tried too hard to be cool. Very dark corridors and gym was totally black so not great for working out. Bed was comfy and room was clean. Reception staff not very friendly but hotel in good location with restaurants nearby. Parking wasn't included and was in a multi story a block away.

A decent hotel situated in the very heart of Gijón. The staff is very friendly and helpful. In the rooms there is no fridge and coffee machine/ kettle, which is a bit uncomfortable. The breakfast is poor, it’s better to have breakfast in some cafe nearby.
