El Monte Sagrado Living Resort & Spa

"Mountains and desert surround this modern pueblo-style resort that is "so beautiful, it could be an art museum." "Serene and spacious" rooms with Native American influences come with hand-painted walls, local art, and gas fireplaces. Global Suites are themed after countries like Argentina, China, and Egypt. The formal De la Tierra offers a wellness menu and locally inspired dishes. At Anaconda Bar, order a margarita and watch fish swim in the saltwater aquarium. Indoor gardens and water features "delight and soothe the mind." Living Spa facilities are "beautiful and warm with tons of natural elements—not at all sterile like some spas."

Everett was the highlight of our stay, and his friendly nature and warm smile was delightful. We stayed in room 12, which was nice but not having a mini fridge was a bummer, causing us to be unable to keep our beverages cold and having to throw away our leftovers because we did not have any way to safely store them. The grounds are peaceful and beautiful, the piano music played by an older gentleman was a lovely addition to the ambience. We liked the art throughout the property, We really enjoyed the billiards room upstairs, which has a 9ft table, nice lighting, comfortable seating and a great book collection. Greg helped us at the bar and he was wonderful, the cocktails were excellent, and the food was very good. The sinks and shower in the pool area were having issues and would wildly spew water in all directions, other than that the pool area is also lovely. Thanks for the relaxing stay, we will definitely be back!

The room is very beautiful and the grounds this hotel on is beautiful. Comfy beds, and a nice pool. However, we never got housekeeping services. Our sheets were never changed, and we never received new towels, we never got new coffee pods, or water. When we called guest services, they never asked us if we'd like to speak to the manager, she just asked "would you like us to send you towels". We understand that the staff may be busy, but we feel that paying $350 a night for a room should mean excellent service. That includes fresh linens.

Just wasn't exactly what we expected. I will say the spa in this place is the best we've ever experienced, but the rest of the place was just decent. Nothing fabulous or luxurious. We were disappointed in a whole regarding Taos and how run down it was. Rooms here were clean but not comfortable at all. Matter of fact, probably the most uncomfortable bed ever. We got a room with the hot tub and it didn't work properly, therefore we weren't able to use it. Staff was courteous and always helpful.

Google
The best! This is a beautiful property, but what makes it special is its staff. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed like family. Everyone, from the valets, to the front desk clerks, to the restaurant staff, to the gift shop attendants and spa employees could not do enough to make us feel at home. Just a quick phone call or text, and anything you need is instantly and happily arranged, whether it be a spa treatment, dinner reservations, or a shuttle into town. There is no attitude, only a sincere desire to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. That is so refreshing in this day and age, when so much service can feel impersonal and is often delegated to AI bots. The property is an absolute Eden, with breathtaking trees, winding pathways, a great lawn, and even a koi pond that runs outside the rooms (try to get one which has a patio that opens onto the pond.). It’s also perfectly quiet and perfect for meditative walks. Our room, a Native American Suite, was comfortable and luxuriously appointed, with a king sized bed, huge shower, and sofa bed in the living room where our daughter slept. Everything is so quiet and restful, and we all had the best nights’ sleep! The spa is fantastic, with excellent and relaxing facilities. We also used the pool area which was lovely, and the gym which was state of the art. The restaurant was fantastic, we had the best dinner there one night, and delicious breakfasts each morning. The bar is beautiful as well, and the drinks are great. The place is full of special little touches, like a little area at reception where you can fill little sachets with lavender or bath salts to have in your room. The reception itself isn’t a big desk, but rather a cozy room with individual chairs and tables where you are welcomed personally by an employee who explains everything and makes sure your needs are taken care of. There’s a convenient shuttle service to take you into town, and just a text brings them back to pick you up, with a smile. Your friendly driver is quick with a recommendation for restaurants and excursion, as well. Victor, our driver, recommended a hike along the Rio Grande Gorge, which did not disappoint. Though we hated to leave, our sadness was tempered by a heartfelt goodbye from Everett, the valet captain, who had gotten to know our family, including our dog, and made us feel like honored guests. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It’s an experience not to be missed, and what makes it so is the fantastic and welcoming staff. We will be back!

Wow. What a fantastic resort. The lush grounds are magical, and the hotel rooms are a dream -- super comfortable bed. Had drinks and a delicious meal at the Anaconda bar, enjoyed the tropical pool/hot tub space, even took a complimentary yoga class the morning we left. Perfect place to stay in Taos!

We only stayed here one night. It was very nice. Parking is kind of a pain because they can run out of regular spots. If this happens you must use valet parking. When checking in, I overheard employees debating if they have to accommodate for service animals and their owners. I hope management was able to fix this and see they must accommodate for them. I did have an issue with the hallway smelling of pot. The hotel was willing to move us to another portion of the hotel and said they would remedy the smell. The location of the hotel is great since it isn’t too far from the plaza. I would stay here again. If you bring food back to your room, they do not have a microwave in the room.

Google
El Monte Sagrado their team - especially Beth and Lila - were absolutely phenomenal throughout our wedding planning and execution process. From the moment we started working together, they made sure we felt supported and well taken care of. Beth and Lila went above and beyond to ensure everything was as smooth and stress-free as possible, always responding quickly to any requests and helping us feel held and at ease when challenges came up. Their warmth, professionalism, and genuine care brought me to tears more than once - they truly wanted our experience to be perfect, AND IT WAS. The entire hotel staff was equally amazing, always “on it” and handling every big and small request with efficiency and kindness. Our guests were equally impressed with the service, and everything ran seamlessly on the big day. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue or team to help bring our wedding vision to life. Highly recommend El Monte Sagrado to anyone looking for a stunning venue with an exceptional team (or gorgeous rooms in a stunning location for a weekend getaway!).

The grounds are very well maintained. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. The valet parking was very nice. The pool and hot tub were amazing. The room was clean and quiet. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you're interested in staying in taos for a few days.

Yelp
Falls short for the Resort Class stay. A missed opportunity... The property is gorgeous and sacred. However, we were let down with our recent visit. I'll start with the positives before I share my unfortunate experiences at El Monte Sagrado. The food is wonderfully exquisite. The property is both gorgeous and sacred. The salon is humble but wonderful when it comes to massage therapies and the sauna. However, there is much that is lacking on staff morale and interactions, based on a "resort class" hotel standard. We decided to stay two nights when we saw how wonderful the property and rooms are. At approximately $500 a night on short notice, I wouldn't recommend this resort unless you reserved earlier on the the lesser rate. Our room had a toilet that ran intermittently during the night, which kept us up. After a poor night of sleep, we went to the salon for a wonderful massage. However, our room keys failed to get us back into our room on the second day. A minor inconvenience in my mind. After fixing that issue, we proceeded into the room which had not been cleaned. In the middle of a much needed nap, the housekeeper pounded loudly on the door yelling "housekeeping." I explained that we were in the middle of a nap. She didn't seem to hear me as she began her rant about needing to clean the room immediately. I actually had to close the door as she trumpeted her warnings in an unacceptable tone. This was nothing short of a bad experience with her approach to communicate with us. It felt like an argument, energetically speaking. Very unprofessional - and we were paying $500 a night for a room with a noisy toilet, a fireplace that was out of order (and a cold room at that). Joshua, the interim Hotel Manager was kind and heard my concerns and reports about the issues. He gave us a nice tour of the grounds and shared his favorite aspects of the property. But there were no amends made, and we received our pricey $1700 bill not too long afterwards, even though we were the unfortunate couple who happened to be in the path of a disgruntled housekeeper. On our final day we were unable to get seated for breakfast. I had to walk back into the kitchen to find an employee to seat us and take the order. There's definitely a staffing and morale issue at the resort. If you can book at a low rate and don't mind the hassles, you should be fine. It's a lovely property that's worth a visit. I do hope they will solve the problems at hand.

Yelp
If I'm being honest it was abysmal and that is being kind. With the amount of money we spent on the wedding on top the price of the rooms the customer service from the staff was deplorable with the exception of the front desk, Everett the valet, and Julia the restaurant server. Upon pulling in Marco the valet verbally accosted me, threatened my safety and then threatened to call the cops because I asked him to stop speaking over me and to stop calling me "brother" he then made threatening comments to me every time I went to my car and refused to do his job. All I did was show up while gay and he treated me like filth. At the wedding The banquet manager screamed at a server in front of the guests and then sent her home crying, the food and beverage manager forced one server to work the entire event after that My room had a mouse infestation, they don't clean under the beds and I was charged multiple times for food from the restaurant. It's as if they decided to phone it in on a weekend when they made upwards of $20,000-$40,000 On the guests for the wedding. I don't expect much but basic courtesy and respect which is something that was severely lacking from Marco the valet guy and nearly every other person except for the front desk and Julia and Everett. 0/10 I would never recommend anyone stay here

Yelp
My sister and I planned a get away and looked forward to treating ourselves a bit but we were both disappointed in the experience, especially with the high cost to stay at the hotel. Pros- Staff for valet and shuttle services were very friendly and helpful. Food at on-site restaurant was very good. Front desk staff shared many recommendations that were helpful. Cons- Response times from housekeeping was unacceptable. We waited over an hour for creamer for our room and our tray from breakfast sat outside our room for over 6 hours. The hotel doesn't look to be maintained/cleaned well as the pool looked filthy and there was equipment left out in the pool area. The spa was okay as far as the massages received but there were no clean glasses for water, tons of dirty towels and no TP in the restroom, even an hour after I notified the front desk. This was my second visit to the hotel and I probably won't return.

Yelp
I really really wanted to like this place. I do have to say we came for a wedding and the venue was beautiful and the food was great. We stayed at the resort. And things started off bad. We checked in and in the restroom was left over pot. Ok, not so bad. Nothing to get mad about. Then when we got into bed the top sheet had a giant hole in it. How do you not see that when you make the bed?! Scary. Ok so we told the front desk. Their response was "ok we'll get that changed" no apology or anything. Ok so that night we get into bad and that sheet is shredding apart at the top. Can you not afford sheets?! Seriously. We also found some kids used clothes left over in the drawer. And my husband gold crackers on the floor. I wouldn't not go back.

Yelp
I had a great stay at El Monte Sagrado. Very helpful staff who were up late to manage our reservation. I loved the fireplace and large tub in the bedroom (perfect for sipping some champagne or tea after a long day!). I'd love to stay again - thanks for a great trip!

Yelp
This is one of those times I wish we had half stars, as I'd give 3.5. There's so much potential here for greatness, but it's clear El Monte Sagrado needs to up their game. What we loved: *The unique, boutique atmosphere *The salt water hot tub and indoor pool was the perfect temp, nice atmosphere and so pretty! *Super comfy bed *Best shower of my life *Amazing in-room jetted tub *Little touches of hospitality *Shuttle service to area attractions with a really nice driver/valet *Overall pretty clean *Friendly staff *Quiet, peaceful property without a ton of people What missed the mark big time: *Mosquitos inside the indoor pool area because of the stagnant and smelly water troughs in the back of the otherwise gorgeous greenhouse area. *Flying bugs inside the room as well as the biggest earwig I've ever seen in the bed. *Couldn't use the patio furniture because it was all covered in spider webs with a live spider in there. *Sheets and blankets weren't quite large enough for the king size bed so they constantly came untucked and rumpled. *Needs closer attention to detail when cleaning the rooms, lots of dust and cobwebs built up in the vigas and behind some of the decor. *Starting to show its age/lack of significant upkeep that could easily be remedied. *Landscaper mowed and left all the clippings all over the sidewalks. The grounds are so beautiful, but walking through clumps to get anywhere is an oversight that shouldn't happen in a place with such potential. *Drinks in the bar were incredibly weak. The other flavors were good and the staff friendly, but there's no excuse for so little alcohol when charging $15-18 a drink. The devil is in the details, and everything that I noted could so easily be fixed. El Monte Sagrado has the potential to be a truly immaculate, incredible, next level experience. For what they charge, I would expect these issues to be nonexistent. I'd absolutely stay there again if I knew they were remedied.

Yelp
Recommend because front of house staff (checkin, valet, bellman, hostess at restaurant) are great! 5 there. Public areas and restaurants are very nice. 5 Nice workout facility-small, but great machines and weights. The not-so-good news was housekeeping, which was an adventure. Missed one day altogether despite numerous requests, received an unclean cup, etc., clearly not their best work. Devine (front of house) is aptly named, and made it right. So, we had a lovely stay in Taos as a result of the people at El Monte Sagrada. Will likely return if we come back to Taos! 4 overall; 5-6 for their customer service staff

Yelp
Stay-Eat-Drink and live the Suite life at captivating & luxurious El Monte Segrado! Nestled in the mountains of northern New Mexico. El Monte is the Crème de la Crème resort! Don't bother looking anywhere else, the resort is beautiful and the staff is professional & were all very helpful and attentive. Keep in mind we're still recovering from the aftermath of the pandemic and it's difficult & challenging to have a full staff on duty at all times, we need to take that into account and appreciate the ones who hustle. I got the "Morocco" 2 bedroom king Global Suite which is a spacious 1132 sq ft with all the bells and whistles for a perfect getaway. *2 Bedrooms each *Featuring 1 King Bed *2 Bathrooms *Spacious Living and Dining Area *Private Courtyard *Gas Fireplace *Wet Bar *Refrigerator *Hot Tub *Plush Robes Now that's living the Suite life! El Monte is a lush maintained retreat of cottonwood trees, ponds, waterfalls........ its picture perfect. The resort is walking distance from the Plaza, very convenient. When we went out for a late dinner the driver dropped & picked us up, now that's service! With all the amenities such as their living spa, wellness center and the award-winning De La Tierra Restaurant where Sexyfood is the standard no need to leave this heaven on earth experience! Trust me enjoy the Suite life at El Monte Segrado. Ciao

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. I stayed at this hotel for one week it is elegant, relaxing, and appeals to all of your senses. The architectural design is beautiful even in the restrooms. My room was large the shower, huge, and my balcony overlooked a soothing lake. All of the staff were attentive, kind, and sincere. They have a text messaging system for you to inform them of any of your needs of which they, attend to immediately. The bar selection and staff are spectacular. The bartenders are more like chemist they whip you up beautiful concoctions, The kale salad at the restaurant is large and so fresh and amazing that I ate it three days in a row. I also had the most amazing breakfast burrito I've ever had. The potatoes were large chunks and the burrito enough for four people. The flavor was, perfect. The fitness center is moderate in size extremely clean as is the whole hotel but the treadmills are a little dated I highly recommend anyone to stay at this amazing resort. I only had a few small issues which the staff corrected immediately, and my fireplace was not working when I got there, the gentleman came quickly to light it up. However, the next day it still wouldn't come on and it had a gas odor so they just turned it off, I'm still giving them five stars as things happen. I'm sure they're getting it fixed today.

Yelp
A spa/resort not worth the money. Dirty showers, lackluster staff for both food and service, inept valet, in responsive management. Wow! What a waste! Taos is a beautiful town w great galleries, shops and testy. Look elsewhere for lodging! I stayed for two nights and am embarrassed I spent what I did and didn't look around more. I'll go back, many times to Taos, never to El Monte sagrado.

Yelp
This is a lovely resort with very nice accommodations scattered around a lushly landscaped campus. The bar is a very nice place for cocktails and live piano music. The restaurant seems underutilized, and doesn't serve lunch, which is a bit odd. The staff is very welcoming.
google avatar

Yelp
The only reason I am not giving a five star is: * the lighting situation. Rooms should have ALL lights on dimmable switches. And, reading lights above the beds. * Hot tub could be hotter (104) * My sis tried to surprise me with a massage but the housekeeper took the card from my room. (stuff happens) Resort did a nice recovery by sending a bottle of wine to our room (but there was no note!) Plusses: * The service (especially valet) was top notch. Peaceful and quiet. * Close to walking downtown. *Free yoga. * Good coffee in lobby. *Excellent day spa

Yelp
A friend and I had breakfast there 2 days ago. I ordered the burrito with sausage. The burrito was huge and the reason was it was filled with large chunks of potatoes with skins on (lazy). it came with eggs and sausage but the sausage was link sausage and I expected the ground sausage. There wasn't even a full link in the burrito. The cheese used was so bland I could not tell there was cheese in it...maybe there wasn't. This pathetic burrito was $18. which was absolutely ridiculous for a mostly potato filled burrito. Next time I get a burrito I am going to Blakes. The only good thing about this breakfast was being with my friend and the very nice waiter.

Yelp
A ghost of its former self. We just finished a 3 night stay in a global hot room suite (Mexico specifically) between March 14 and March 17. For background, we previously stayed at this property when it was in the Kessler collection (in a Native American Suite back in 2010) and then again in a standard Taos Mountain room for 3 nights back around 2013 (after the Kessler properties largely transitioned to being in the Marriott Autograph collection). Both of those stays were great and the property was top notch. I probably would have rated it a 5 out of 5 back then for both of those visits. Move forward about ten years and a new owner (Heritage Hotels of New Mexico) in 2015 and this property has taken a nose dive in my opinion. Yes, the grounds and the environment are absolutely stunning and it is a beautifully constructed property and one of the more unique ones we have ever stayed at. It really captures the essence of Taos, NM well and the suites in particular could be something really special. The room condition was a disgrace however for being over $700 a night effectively including taxes and resort charges. We knew we were in trouble when our son found a rotten clementine under the couch upon check in. Things just went down hill from here. Everything was tired. All the cushions at our dining table (which was largely impossible to use since there are no utensils, plates or any sort of kitchen in the room) were torn through the seams due to years of degradation and neglect. Foam was popping out everywhere. The couch cushions were stained. The coffee table had multiple stains. The lamp shade in the main room was literally falling apart with it being torn through in at least 5 places. The blinds had chunks missing from them in multiple rooms plus were completely non-funcitonal in the second bedroom due to the string to raise and lower them having been completely ripped out. The door to the suite had scratches from a dog clearly being left in it with separation anxiety. A chunk of the wall was missing next to the door to the hot tub patio. The hot tub had broken lights and smelled so bad we were worried to go in after our first try figuring we'd end up with a staff infection or something worse. The master bedroom bath was missing a door pull that had been ripped out. All of the dimmable fixtures had non-dimmable bulbs in them rendering them largely useless (HOW HARD IS IT TO GET DIMMABLE LED BULBS?). Multiple light bulbs were dead in the room. The fireplace timer didn't work correctly. The tub/shower combinations in the bathroom had significant hard water stains and just looked grubby. The floors were so dirty that your socks/feet would turn black if you walked around them for any amount of time; it seemed like the concrete likely had not been properly deep cleaned for months or years. There was a missing door pull in the master bedroom bath which made closing the door next to impossible. The sad thing is, I could go on but I think I'm written enough on this topic. Service and staff were reasonably friendly, but nobody ever asked me a simple question of "How is your stay?" Or "How is your room?" I imagine they likely already knew the answer. We honestly thought about checking out after our first night and just leaving Taos we were so disappointed in the state of things; but this would have meant losing money on some stuff that was already booked at the ski valley, so we toughed it out for the 3 days. In summary, we will only consider returning if we know this place undergoes a major capital renovation that "freshens" up the fact that the rooms are showing the 21 years of wear so significantly at this point. Maybe our suite was particularly bad, but I asked another couple staying near us what they thought and they said their room had multiple problems also. Additionally, I'd avoid the other Heritage Hotel properties around New Mexico assuming this is how they manage things. We were honestly saddened by the fact that such a jewel of a resort was allowed to degrade to such a sad state of condition. Save your money and take your business somewhere else. Don't be tempted like we were!

Yelp
The grounds are beautiful and well maintained and the hotel is pet friendly. Most of the staff is professional and friendly as well. However, we received a text the morning of our check in asking when we would be there. I said 3:30. They simply responded that they would see us then. We got there at 3:30 and the room wasn't clean. We waited over an hour for our room, ended up being late for dinner and the concert that we were there to see as well. If they would have responded to our text that the room might not be ready at 3:30 we could have eaten first, then checked in. The communication was poor and we waited doing nothing until we could get in the room. Also, the room was not 100% clean. There was a broom left and other people's trash on the balcony. The rooms are seriously outdated and for the price we paid they should be much nicer. Old leather furniture, horse hide covering armoires and tables, and curtains around a 1970s bathtub stuck in the middle of the room. Look at the rooms of your Hotel Chaco property. That's what you should be offering for your price point.

Yelp
From the moment we pulled into the parking lot we knew we were in for a treat. Staff guided us in and led us to check-in. The hotel and spa is gorgeous! The check-in and lobby are located in the main building along with the bar and dining room. Everything is well appointed in traditional Taos style. The hotel is situated on a beautiful site and the grounds are well maintained. Our room was comfortable, clean and luxurious. Our dining experience was just as expected. Food was great and service was exceptional. After dinner we opted for a few specialty drinks at the bar. Our servers were very friendly and attentive. The drinks were different but good. Definitely a memorable weekend.

Yelp
Wonderful resort in the mountain town Taos. Very pretty. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The staff were efficient and good service. They have an onsite bar and restaurant as well. The decor and theme of the room was perfect. The patio was overlooking a koi pond.Very serene and beautiful.

Yelp
I would save your money ! Extremely disappointing. The facility and the grounds are unbelievable, great statues water features, stream that runs through it but it stops there. They brag about one of the finest spas in the world however check in times at 4 PM which is late for any resort or hotel and their spa closes at 5 PM. The last thing you want to do after a sauna hot tub and a so called wonderful Massage is then go out and move your bags and bring them into the room and start a brief unpack. Actually if you check in at 4 PM as they require you wouldn't be able to get a massag , treatment because the minimum is a one hour massage so you would have to do it the next day but check out time is 11 AM so unless you're staying multiple days the bragging they do about their spa means nothing. It's a night camp or we had planned to go to their indoor pool in the hot tub however the hot tub wasn't working and the pool is cold for being an indoor pool the last thing you wanna do is freeze especially with no sun so that was a bust. The rooms are dated couches are worn we got a one bedroom suite and the TV and the living room and it also in the bedroom are no bigger than 32 inch, when you turn on your sink in your bathroom it is like a water jet that completely soaks your shirt as it's your first time and turning it on and you have no clue that the pressure is gonna come out more than a pressure washer. The front desk did not answer the phone and when I called to the spa they didn't answer the phone and it was during business hours. I can continue to go on with complaints but the end result is a $400 a night plus and not being able not be able to use the facilities or get into the spa due to 4pm check in and 11 AM check out does not leave time for any thing attempt to try their spa. Massages were very pricey starting at 2:50 for 60 minutes and going over $300 for 90 minutes. Plus they tack on a pretty hearty fee of a resort fee. For an anniversary one night stay it was very disappointing we went to the springs at Ojo Caliente which was $190 a night with unlimited hot spring pools mud baths regular swimming pool and $190 room is a much better bet. If you don't stay there they charge you a $40 per person to use all the pools on hot Springs so if you figure for a couple that's $80 and you can get a nice room for 190 in total which it includes the two day spas passes we're actually paying $90 for a very nice room. Conclusion spend your heart earned money somewhere else and not at this resort I felt sorry for the younger gentleman that was working in check-in as he was having to deal with complaints and had no power to do anything about it they did compensate us with two free breakfasts but when you're paying over $400 a night for a room I don't want two free breakfasts I just want to be able to use what they call their world renowned spa which is not possible on a one night stay I felt secure as they had a security guard to let you into the property and they take your bags from there and bring them to your room which is nice so it wasn't all negative but the main parts that you would stay at a resort like this did not live up to as advertised

Yelp
This place is gorgeous. The room I stayed in was massive and the view was beautiful. The king size bed was incredibly comfortable. That's about all the positives I can add. I agree with other reviewers - it makes no sense to charge a $27 resort fee ($25+tax) when the amenities are closed. Understood - covid precautions mean the spa and pool and jacuzzis are inaccessible. What am I paying for then? They provide one tiny vial of body wash, moisturizer, etc. for two guests. The room was pretty barren when it comes to surplus supplies - no additional blanket etc. The restaurant is closed on Monday nights for deep cleaning, so imagine my disappointment: no spa, no jacuzzi, no food, and not even an ounce of bubble bath. The fire place is nice, but it's on a 60 minute timer that TICK TICK TICKS loudly the entire time. The furnishings feel pretty mismatched - different handles on the facet vs bathroom doorknob vs shower doorknob etc. Wood and tile and pebbles and carpet and marble. Even the artwork was abstract faces and deer antlers and wild horses. It's just kind of all over the place, feels like decoration was an afterthought (or perhaps just not my style?). Honestly, I expected more. I likely won't return.

Yelp
Stayed here just for the night. Our room was spacious & clean. We really enjoyed having the whirlpool & fireplace in our room. Enjoyed drinks during happy hour at the anaconda bar. Bartenders were super friendly and made perfect drinks. We ordered the honey chipotle shrimp for appetizer. We didn't like it all that much, so we opted to eat dinner elsewhere. We would stay here again.

Yelp
The best kept secret in Taos! First, it's off-season and they are open with welcome arms. Many places are closed after Thanksgiving until the more profitable holidays come to play. This place staffs like they're full yet you can have a peaceful dinner at the table if your choice. The three folks who are working are delightful. They waved me in, brought me a menu and made great recommendations. I come to Taos for the chili, so asked for recommendations and I got great ones. The result - green chili and mushroom flatbread - pure perfection! Great wine list and cocktails too! Don't tell anyone I recommended this place because I want to keep it all to myself.

Yelp
Stunning oasis walking distance to the plaza. Gorgeous grounds and facilities. The restaurant is pretty good as well. Big negative: the rooms are very noisy, we could hear the next door room's TV and conversation all through our stay. If anyone walks through The corridors, opens and closes their room door, walks above you on the second floors, it's insanely noisy. We were woken up constantly in the night and early morning. The cleaning staff talks endlessly in the hallways early mornings and wakes you up. Not restful at all. Pick the second floor if you can. The spa, the saltwater pool, the ambiance are amazing.

Yelp
We just visited this beautiful resort and was so impressed with the restaurant staff, the spa & the resort staff. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful!!! It is so lush & green you think you are in a rain forest. Lydia at the restaurant was superb in the evening & the kind gentleman for breakfast was outstanding. A big shout out to the cooks who were fabulous. My husband & I spent a lot of time at the spa & were totally pampered. Lori, Marjorie & Melissa were AMAZING!!! We will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
Lovely stay! This is a beautiful property with warm, friendly, and accommodating staff. We stayed in one of the Premier Suites (Tibet maybe) and in retrospect I wish I had just gone with the Native American 1 bdrm due to location. The premium and global suites are quite a distance from the parking lot and restaurant and the walls were thin. We could literally hear the folks conversation next door which is off-putting. We really enjoyed room service breakfast, dining in the restaurant (amazing chicken enchiladas) and the close proximity to the plaza. I agree with other comments on the amenity fee and the sparse in-room provisions like coffee coups, water glasses and toiletries. Essentially they are happy to bring you anything you need, but you do have to ask. Really pretty landscaping and water features even in early spring.

Yelp
We spent 3 beautiful days at El Monte Sagrado. First of all the staff is genuinely warm and friendly. The room was comfortable and spacious, especially the river rock walk in shower and corner fireplace. We had several meals at de la Tierra where Sierra and Delores made sure everything went perfectly. And the food was sublime! Especially enjoyed the cured salmon for brunch. The Anaconda Bar offered half price margaritas and discounted snacks at happy hour. Awesome bartender and lively crowd. Enjoyed spa treatments in their beautiful rustic spa building where Rebecca tended to my sore leg (Staurolite Hot Stone Treatment) with sensitivity and skill. She even wrote up an aftercare plan for me. We used the indoor pool and hot tub which has all kinds of tropical plants and stones to enhance the organic feeling. A high point of our stay was a healing session with Patrick Shendo, a Native American shaman. Patrick is kind and approachable. He used readings and native music, including the hard-to-play Aboriginal didgeridoo, to help align our disordered spirits. We left the resort feeling lighter, refreshed and happy.

Yelp
Who knew off the plaza would be this hidden gem surrounded by aspens and nature. We were working in Espanola and heading to Taos when I received a text from the hotel welcoming us on our upcoming stay. We responded and because we were a little ahead of schedule we asked for an earl check in. They immediately replied and let us know we could check in early. We followed our navigation which took us into a secluded oasis. This place was just beautiful. The driveway is small and parking is limited. Checking in was a whole other experience! You are invited to have a seat at a desk where the guest reservation guide checks you in and then graciously gives you a quick tour showing you where all the extras like the salt water pool, fitness facility and the room for morning yoga are. Finally taking us to our room. The light fixtures along the way were likely e a work of art. The grounds were surrounded with natural beauty. This place has both rooms and casitas available. We entered our room with two Queens and decor that complimented the dark wood tones. The fireplace in the corner, the pebble tub and the sliding door out to the grounds were all some of my favorites. We rested a bit on the soft down comforters. Later we jumped into our swimwear and headed to the pool and hot tub. Relaxing and calming all in one. We order service to the pool which was lettuce wraps, chips and salsa and some red wine! Good eats and nice vino. The whole experience was above and beyond our expectations and the price was well worth it. Slept great and woke up and out for a run and some great coffee. Can not wait to go back!

Yelp
My husband and I recently had an enjoyable stay at this resort. The resort feels miles away from civilization, but is only a few minutes drive from downtown Taos. The resort is beautiful and I believe we were told it spans 11 acres. It definitely feels like a mountain town spot to relax and escape for a few days. There's plenty of green grass, water areas, waterfalls, plants, and flowers. The Good: *Fast and friendly check-in process that ended with a guided tour of our room and offer to show us the entire property *Restaurant, bar, and room service on property *Our room was more of a suite with a bedroom, bathroom, seating area, and outdoor patio *The room was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed and large shower *The resort offers a free shuttle to town *The location is close to downtown shopping and restaurants, a short drive to the parking lot for several trailheads The Less Than Good: *The pool and hot tub area was cramped with very few seats, being a family resort the area was overrun with kids at times too *The valet employees were very friendly, but there weren't enough of them working so wait times for the car could be long *Self-parking was available, but they allowed triple parking so we didn't want to risk self-parking and being blocked in We didn't have enough time to enjoy spa services, but planned to take advantage of the complimentary spa pass to use the relaxation lounge. This seemed like a good option to avoid all of the kids in the pool area and enjoy true relaxation. The spa desk employee had a bit of an attitude and told us that it was $16 per person just to come into the spa, even as guests. First, this was not in line with the information we were given about the spa. I've attached a photo showing that it's supposed to be complimentary for guests which is standard for resorts in general too. Second, the employee had an attitude so I just wanted to avoid that and go back to enjoying my weekend. Overall, we stayed at the resort to have a relaxing weekend as a couple and we were able to do that! We loved the tranquil feel of the property, the beautiful room, and the proximity to downtown and hiking.

Yelp
I'm not sure what you might expect for a hotel room costing $450 per night (plus resort fees), but we expected a room with housekeeping services and a safe, convenient place to park our car. Sadly, we were not informed when we booked our stay, nor when we checked-in, that the room would not be made up or cleaned. We were also not told about a large, noisy wedding party staged on the lawn outside our room. We were required to valet park our car because of the wedding and lack of adequate onsite parking. The last straw was being stranded without our car when the valet failed to show-up for work in the morning. It took management a half hour to find a maintenance worker to unblock our car. Management was unapologetic when we discussed these and other problems with them. Not a relaxing experience!

Yelp
We went on an adventure for our 25th wedding anniversary and part of our time was spent at this lovely resort. From the time we arrived we enjoyed excellent service. There were many choices in terms of rooms/suites but since we were in NM we chose the Navajo Suite! Nice one bedroom suite with it's own gorgeous fireplace, gigantic shower built for 8, lovely king size bed with the softest sheets ever, and a private patio overlooking the creek and mini meadow. In addition, the resort provided us with a nice bottle of wine - nice touch! The views were enchanting from this room and the entire property itself was phenomenal. Each night we enjoyed a nice jacuzzi and had it to ourselves and then we would make our way over to the giant outdoor fireplace and drink a glass of wine gazing at the star filled sky. Yes, this place is very romantic. The property is large and includes its own restaurant and bar, gift shop, and the Living Spa (I will review separately). Lots of area to roam and walk around and you won't run into another soul unless you choose to. We both slept really well, and enjoyed room service. We never ate at the restaurant although we tried. The menu looked good but we wanted a special place to eat for our anniversary night so we opted to eat in town. If you are looking for a special place to spend time with your honey, then this resort is for you! We both loved the location and the fact that this resort was a bit removed from town for maximum privacy and fun!

Yelp
I want to start by noting that El Monte Sagrado is most certainly one of the casualties of COVID. Way understaffed at the front desk, the restaurant, the spa, housekeeping, valet, etc. We thought six days/nights there would be a treat for us (first vacay since before COVID), but it was sadly not... more of an exercise in foraging for ourselves and sad disappointment at the disconnect between the cost and the experience. E.g. The restaurant was open only the first night we were there and the last night, and it was a circus of mistakes and misinformation, The server was very nice (talked me into the special, but then the special was not available as described but instead was prepared differently, then it turns out it was not available at all. So I ordered what my husband did, and they brought out his AND the special-not-available... which was ice cold, so they got me what my husband had while he finished his. It was actually funny in a way. Our room needed cleaning when we got there, ESPECIALLY the toilet (we cleaned the shower). I didn't take pictures. It was the only housekeeping we got in 6 days. We emptied our trash in the bin in the walk way between buildings, but when those filled up we asked them to empty the big bins, which they did. The spa was booked beyond the week we were there, so we went elsewhere in Taos for massages. Finally, there were mouse dropping on the landing to our room level. I mentioned it several times to the front desk as it might be something they would like to see gone. After three reminders, and a fourth mention to the valet, SOME of it disappeared. I am not a fan of hantavirus, but at the very least they should have cleaned the poop up if not trapped the mice. But again, they are severely understaffed (though charge as if they were not). One star is for Marcos, very, very nice guy and proud to work for EMS. They should do better by people like him. Cannot recommend. We may try it again someday, but will be DARN sure it is fully functional (and read the reviews beforehand).

Yelp
We came for some R&R. First time ever being in Taos, we just drove from Colorado and wanted a quick getaway. I will give you the pros and cons of staying here. Cons: 1ply toilet paper (yes, that matters to me) Costly Everything is closed on Sundays NEVER stay in room 1!!! Yes, it is easy to get to, but you never get to sleep in. People don't realize, or maybe they just don't care and talk really loud outside your window, and / or the door to outside is by the room door, and they just let it bang shut. I'm not sure if it's a guest or staff. The living room and bedroom should be swapped around so you can get some relaxing sleep. Costly to stay here. Pros: Spa is amazing Staff are very helpful, and if you have an issue, they take care of it immediately!! Food is delicious!! I love the little balcony Old but beautiful Overall, I am unsure if things around us were closed to the time of year we came or if that is just the way it is. I would like to see what it's like in the summertime but NOT stay in room #1!!

Yelp
Very Disappointing... 95% of amenities stated in the description did not exist. Although I had a confirmed restaurant reservation, when I arrived I was told that the restaurant was not open. Although I was told on the phone that there was room service when I arrived there was no room service. No pool, no spa, no limo service, no valet, no concierge, no bathrobes, no place to buy snacks or drinks, missing bathroom supplies. I was told that it was the poor descriptions of hotels.com, not the hotel. Staff need to be trained to not just say no or they can't. Also, I got sick of looking at dead animal skins on the walls...gave me nightmares. On to Santa Fe with another reservation at a Heritage Hotel, I was worried, and it was worse than I imagined-no air conditioning! Highs close to 100 degrees. Who thought it could get worse? Heritage Hotels should not be classified as 4 star luxury hotels.

Yelp
Really wanted to like this place better. They are short staffed, which I'm sure is stressful for all of the staff here, but they couldn't clean our room at all in our 4 night stay (with our kids). We asked some house cleaners if they could clean up a bit, and all they did was put fresh towels in our bathroom. We had to call the front desk to make sure we had enough toilet paper. I mean really?!? Why are they over booking guests if they don't have the capacity? We spent a LOT of money to be here and it's super disappointing. The restaurant wasn't open, and their pool was closed (a big reason we paid so much to stay here). But I didn't know any of this until we arrived, and they did not offer any discount for the lack of amenities and lack of service (which is kinda what we are paying for right?). Spa was nice. Would not stay here again.

Yelp
Phenomenal property and service. The resort is tucked 5 minutes off of the major plaza of town. It was so close we even saw people walking to and from, just keep in mind how dark it gets at night. This resort is a little piece of Taos paradise. Tons of green space to walk, sit and enjoy. The design is truly immersive. We loved bringing a bottle of wine to the lawn / fire pit area at the end of the night. The property reached out to me the day of arrival to ask our ETA for check in. We were walked to our room to not get lost on our way. They provided a number for us to text if we needed anything. This made it easy for us to order more towels or anything we may have forgot at home. Keep in mind - the state of New Mexico mandated pools and spas to be closed. Also, unable to do housekeeping service during the stay, but we didn't mind sleeping in the same sheets for 3 nights. Highly recommend even during the pandemic.

Yelp
We absolutely loved this place! Easy walk to the historic square but also felt so lovely and secluded while on the grounds. The facility itself had so much attention to detail in decor and layout. Every staff person, from the front desk, to the bar and restaurant, to the cleaning folks, to the grounds maintenance, to the valet - all - so nice and welcoming. We will most certainly come back and request the same room we had that overlooked the beautiful courtyard that we imagine hosts some magnificent weddings. Highly highly recommend.

Yelp
There is something other worldly about this place. Though in the center of town it feels very remote once you are in the property. The Taos mountain rooms make me feel like I'm staying in a tree house because they are surrounded by trees and have to most wonderful balconies. This is truly a sanctuary to escape the hustle and bustle of life. The staff have always been wonderful. You can walk the grounds complete with Koi ponds, beautiful Mountain Views and huge trees. The rooms are clean and have great soaking tubs they have a spa so I'm looking forward to get a massage every trip as well. This place is heaven!

Yelp
The glass shower door was broken and didn't close properly. There were no extra blankets or pillows in the room. There were no robes or slippers in the room. They have concrete floors. For the price they charge, these are the basics we expect. Ate dinner in their restaurant. The $25 foie gras and brie appetizer was served on an ice-cold plate; all items were stone cold. The foie gras was discolored gray from being prepared early and refrigerated. Not at all appetizing. We had to send back the duck because it was too rare despite ordering medium rare. It was literally bloody. The "lava cake" dessert wasn't lava cake, it was an odd piece of chocolate cake with a crunchy surface that looked like it was baked in a round tin, covered with chocolate sauce. No lava center. Altogether, it was an uninspiring meal for the price. Room service was a disaster. The first morning we ordered, they told us they could not deliver it because they were short-staffed, but we could come to pick it up in a paper bag. We picked it up and, when we got back to the room realized they'd forgotten our orange juices. When we called them back, they said, "Someone will be right up with it!" And they DID send someone! So why couldn't they deliver it in the first place? The second morning they delivered ice-cold butter and ice-cold syrup for the French toast. The last morning, after 70 minutes, our breakfast had not been delivered, and when we called to complain, we were told they had an emergency and our order "slipped through the cracks." In a hurry to get on our way, we told them to just cancel it. After we canceled, the general manager called and we relayed some of our complaints to him; in particular, we asked him if he'd serve ice-cold syrup to guests at his home. His snarky reply was, "That's how I give it to my kids!" Who taught him hotel management? In his defense, he did take $195 off our bill. But, we would much rather have had good service, good food and pay full price. This hotel REALLY needs to get its act together. COVID is over and it isn't an excuse for poor service any longer. The only reason we're not giving it a 1 star is the property is pretty and clean, and all the employees are very friendly.

Yelp
Visited El Monte Sagrado with my husband and 2 kids - 1.5 and 4.5. We were very much looking forward to the trip but it quickly went south at check in. We were with a large group for work that was booked through hotel under a group setting. Reasons for my 1 star: 1. Upon checking in they informed up that they did not have us down the the Global Suite Room but rather a normal room. It was confirmed that it was indeed the hotels fault. What I found interesting is that during this process they didn't believe us until they saw communication that showed the error on the hotel side. They kept saying there was nothing they could do as the hotel was full. They finally offered 2 rooms that were near each other. So for our stay one of the adults has to stay with the kids in another nearby room as the kids are way to young to stay in there alone. 2. We never heard the word sorry once - you are literally in the hospitality business... 3. One room had a broken AC that engineering couldn't get working for 24 hours. Solution would be to move further away or put fans in the room 4. In room phones have direct links to places in the hotel i.e. guest services, restaurant. There is one that says in room dining but they don't actually have in room dining, only take out from the restaurant. And the buttons don't actually link you to the correct places - everytime I pushed restaurant to order, it sends to somewhere else. Not a great impression of what is supposed to be a nice hotel in Taos. Scenery beautiful, service awful.

Yelp
This place is a really a unique resort! The staff (Pam and Marco) went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Our room was fabulous equip with a fireplace and balcony! The only issue we had with the room was that we could not get the heat to turn off on the thermostat and so we were roasting all night. It was November so it was cold outside so we just opened the balcony door, but would have been nice to turn the heater off. The swimming area was one of a kind! The ladies locker room needed a little work and didn't not feel clean. When you opened the shower it smelled of old urine, so we closed it right away! The pool is salt water, and was the perfect temperature and atmosphere! Walk around the property and check out the ballrooms, piano room, giant chess board, library, etc. It has a really cool vibe there! The restaurant was decent, but overpriced and they were out of most of the items on the menu that we wanted to order. I would stay here again though!

Yelp
Small clean hotel with a great restaurant and bar. Unique water features with a pool and hot tub and nice fitness room with floor to ceiling window. Rooms are decorated very New Mexico. Well worth a stay in the Taos area.

Yelp
We love our stay here. We arrived with a little bit of a situation at check in. Nothing to do with the resort but they were very friendly and accommodating. They have excellent customer service and because of our inconvenience not associated with them, they gave us an upgrade. The facility is beautiful and I would highly recommend them. Thanks El Monte Sagrado!

Yelp
Note to Yelp: Your word descriptors do not match the star ratings. Five stars should be reserved for exceptional; four - great, three - good, two - below average; and one - poor. The El Monte Sagrado is a "great" resort, but not five stars. However, I have to state up front that I am picky when it comes to hotels; and I would happily stay here again. The areas needing improvement fall within the physical plant. The staff makes the El Monte Sagrado great. To a one, all went above and beyond to accommodate every request. Our two room, two night stay was great because of these people. Pros: - The staff was wonderful! Really. All were friendly and professional. Special shoutouts to Jerome at checkin; Lily in the spa; and Benito in the spa. There are more, but unfortunately, I didn't catch names. - Food was great. The shawarma was the bomb and my breakfast "power bowl" was a nice surprise. When I asked for an unfamiliar drink at the bar, the bartenders unhesitatingly looked up how to make it for me. - The shuttle to downtown was easy to use and the driver (I believe his name is Vince), was beyond helpful. - Beds were comfortable. - Rooms were clean. - Park like setting is beautiful. - Keurig in room and refrigerated creams a big plus. - Complimentary water bottles in the check-in area were another big plus. Cons: - Bathroom is dated. Shower door didn't close correctly. Every faucet, in the room and the spa, was a challenge. For aesthetics, the hotel employs trendy sinks and spigots. We found the water came out too hard and fast. Many incidents of splashing water. Also, we struggled to get temperature settings correct, particularly in the shower--hard to turn down the hot water. - Room lighting. Very dim and misplaced. Probably the worst aspect of the room. I had to use my cell phone light in many instances, even in the daytime and with room lights on. This was particularly true in the room bar and safe area. Also, the light over the desk is helpful, but since the TV sits over the desk, it created a glare. One bright light at bedside table, was too bright if anyone was resting. I recommend some pen lighting near the beds and better can lighting throughout. - Electrical and charging outlets were inconvenient. There is one bank of charging outlets (not requiring plugs), but it is on the desk, across from the beds. It would be great to charge cell phone near bed. My review is detailed, but only because I really liked the El Monte Sagrado. Hopefully, some physical plant upgrades are in the pipeline. A few upgrades will propel the El Monte Sagrado into a higher echelon. I hope I can make it back to Taos and the El Monte Sagrado.

Yelp
Tired from the road, I arrive at El Monte Sagrado and find I've stumbled through the gates of heaven. Of note: * GM, Matthew, is out front pitching in and helping me with my luggage. I see him all over the property during my stay making sure things are right. Affable and cool guy. * Props to Hunter and Patrick at the desk, always there to help, urbanely poised and ready with excellent local recommendations. * The kitchen staff, who made my first good meal in weeks happen. (Highly recommend the rellenos, sirloin and the gazpacho burrata.) * The sweet housekeepers who I see around every corner. * And last and not least, Sofia and Carrie at the bar, especially Carrie, who was supremely patient with me as my dumb ass tried to drink my way through their entire tequila shelf. Pure Southwestern serenity and graciousness, top to bottom. Didn't want to leave. I'll be back.

Yelp
Such a beautiful property with top notch staff. We loved the restaurant, the 11 beautiful acres, and our stay. A highlight of our time was the pool. It is like a beautiful jungle with a greenhouse effect. The pools are salt water and heated which made our stay that much more enjoyable. We look forward to returning in the future.

Yelp
Stayed in the Egyptian room over the weekend. Beautiful grounds and beautiful resort inside and out. I have always loved to visit El Monte Sagrado over the past 15 years. This weekend was my first staying in a global suite, so special on so many levels. The staff at the resort went above and out of the their way to be kind and helpful at any given notice. Prompt and efficient help at any request. I noticed on many occasions staff keeping the grounds to immaculate standards. Welcomed our two dogs with no judgement passed towards them and or us. We were even given doggy welcome bags with treats and toy balls for the dogs when we arrived. Valet was quick, and scraped off entire car of snow prior to our departure. The resort also offered a shuttle service to Taos shops and restaurants which was great given we wanted to drink while eating dinner but didn't want to drive irresponsibly. We will return to this little treasure resort in Taos NM. Truly special and truly beautiful.

Ashli L.

Yelp
My sister was just married at El Monte this past weekend, and we absolutely loved everything! The staff is so very friendly and accommodating! We could not have asked for a better venue for a wedding! From the valet parking to the front desk and the restaurant staff, everyone was friendly and so very welcoming and happy for help at any moment! Highly recommend staying at El Monte any time you are in Taos!

Yelp
Great landscape but disappointing stay. Won't be back unless no better options in the area. Mainly cz of customer service #1. Paid for bed/breakfast package. Then called later to ask if there is discount for AAA members. Yes there was and we got that. When we got there, we ended up with no breakfast and were told "we could only offer one package"! Barely appologized for that confusion and not even cared to make it up to us even when we called that early morning to get breakfast, there wasn't any service as they're understaffed. #2. For a dog friendly place (very expensive flat rate btw $75, which was 40% of the room fee), all poop bag holders were empty. #3. Room (Casita 2 double beds) is small for a "luxury/nice" hotel
