The 34 Best Hotels in Barcelona

"El Palace is all Baroque opulence. Like a small-scale version of Versailles in the center of Barcelona, this property used to be the Ritz, and it shows in everything from the fancy doormen in top hats to the old-school room keys to the lavish fabrics and furnishings. It is a stately grande dame hotel that has been one of Barcelona's leaders in luxury ever since it first opened in 1919. If budget isn’t an issue, then El Palace’s Art Suites are among the prettiest money can buy. Each one is inspired by a former prominent guest—from Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, to artist Salvador Dalí, and French-American singer, dancer and actor Josephine Baker—and their particular artistic preferences. There’s also a Roman-style mosaic bath for those Insta-worthy tub moments." - Gemma Askham, Isabelle Kliger

The Best Hotels in Spain, From Malaga to Barcelona

"I’ve been coming to Barcelona since just before the 1992 Olympics, that watershed moment when the city picked up the baton and ran with it. Since then I have always been swayed by the new: staying in Hotel Arts Barcelona when it rose up on the beachfront or making for The Hoxton’s rooftop taqueria. However, El Palace, like the Eixample district it sits in, is never ruffled by arrivistes. Locals still call it “El Ritz”—it was César Ritz’s last grand project—and while it officially lost the name decades ago, it clung to the theatrical pomp. The lobby’s basalt-black columns are the definition of mausoleum chic, as if ready to stage a production of Salome. Like all grandes dames, it gives good gossip and drops a few names. Everyone knows that Dalí lived here and once asked the staff to bring a giant stuffed horse that he’d bought up the stairs to his room, but there’s also a wild rumor that Trotsky’s murderer, Ramón Mercader, was once maître d’ here. I returned to Barcelona earlier this year, the first time since lockdown, to find it almost completely awake once more, and El Palace full of renewed zip. A new name has set up home here: Rafa Zafra, the topknotted former head chef at El Bulli, in Amar, a midnight-blue restaurant with ponzu oysters, caviar, and spider-crab cannelloni on the menu. And the rooftop pool terrace has been reclaimed by summer DJ sets and cocktail-fueled art lessons. I even danced the merengue—seasoned boulevardiers can learn new moves too. —Rick Jordan" - Lauren Burvill

El Palace Barcelona

"How did it strike you on arrival?El Palace is all Baroque opulence—like a small-scale version of Versailles, but situated in the center of Barcelona. This property used to be the Ritz, and it shows in everything from the fancy doormen in top hats to the old-school room keys—not to mention the lavish fabrics, furnishings, and all-around décor. These days, it is known as El Palace, a stately grande dame hotel that has been one of Barcelona's leaders in luxury ever since it first opened in 1919. What’s the crowd like?El Palace attracts a mature following from all over the world, although the predominant groups are from the U.S., the Middle East, and Europe. If you enjoy staying in grand old palatial buildings that are steeped in history, this is the hotel for you. Tell us about your room.Rooms are elegant and relaxing, with high-quality furniture and excellent soundproofing, plus wonderful views – depending on where in the hotel you stay – from Gran Via to the hilltop of Tibidabo and Gaudí’s famous Sagrada Família. If budget isn’t an issue, then El Palace’s Art Suites are among the prettiest money can buy. Each one is inspired by a former prominent guest – from Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, to artist Salvador Dalí, and French-American singer, dancer and actor Josephine Baker – and their particular artistic preferences. There’s also a Roman-style mosaic bath for those Insta-worthy tub moments. The Art Suites can be reserved either as a two-bedroom suite, with two separate bedrooms and two Roman baths united by a living-dining room; a one-bedroom suite: with one bedroom, one Roman bath, and a living-dining room; or as a Grand Deluxe, with one bedroom and one Roman bath, without the living-dining room. El Palace also has Family Suites, which are three separate bedrooms for up to seven guests combined by a central living room. How are the beds?Comfortable king-size bed with 100 percent Egyptian-cotton sheets. How are the bathrooms? One of the highlights of if you book one of the Art Suites is the fully renovated Roman-style bathroom, complete with mosaics. Bathroom products come from Lab Noma, a local, sustainable brand, which uses zero-waste, ecological, vegan, and environmentally sustainable ingredients grown in the nearby Parc de las Flors. Is there Wi-Fi?Complimentary, unlimited Wi-Fi. Anything stand out about other services and features? There are a lot of hotel roof terraces in Barcelona, but very few are as expansive, relaxing, or beautifully designed as the one that sits atop El Palace. In winter, one of the highlights is the beautiful greenhouse-style winter garden restaurant, which allows you to appreciate the terrace to its fullest, even when it’s too cold to sit outside. The new ground-floor Amar restaurant by local super chef Rafa Zafra is about as opulent as it gets, setting a new standard for sumptuous seafood feasts in Barcelona. The no-expense-spared menu features caviar served in every form imaginable and eight different takes on oysters, to name just a couple of examples. Downstairs, the Bluesman bar is a great place for a cocktail, especially for Rolling Stones fans, who will be impressed by the original artwork donated to the hotel by Barcelona resident Ronnie Wood. El Palace also features a Mayan-themed spa that specializes in volcanic-stone treatment. What was most memorable about your stay?El Palace lives up to its name and will delight anyone who has dreamed of living like a royal, even for a day. Bottom line: worth it?Rooms are on the expensive side, but that’s what you have to be prepared to pay to stay in a real palace." - Isabelle Kliger

From the moment we walked into the hotel’s front doors to the moment we left to fly home we were so pleased. A beautiful hotel with so much history we learned on our stay with you. My husband and I visited several cities in Europe from the US during our travel and our time at your hotel was by far our favorite. The service of your staff and kindness shows. Always welcoming us and going out of your way to make us feel at home. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are clean, spacious, with comfortable beds and beautiful views. We loved the small extra charming touches such as turning down our room for the evening and the classic keys to open your door received from the bell hops daily. The location of your hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of the city which was wonderful making it easier to get around. We would love to come back and highly suggest you book your stay here if you are heading to Barcelona. Thank you for making our stay so memorable for our 10th Anniversary. It is a time we will never forget.

My wife booked here for two nights before cruise. I am usually on the cheap side and would not go five stars. This place was five stars. Everyone was so |Nice and accommodating. Breakfast was phenomenal. We arrived with a welcome note and sparkling wine and chocolate. The concierge sent us complimentary desserts our first night. They also sent a special July fourth treat. ||Everything was over the top and exceeded expectations

We recently spent a full week at El Palace Barcelona during my son’s wedding, and I just wanted to share what a truly wonderful experience it was.||Both our family and the bride’s family stayed at the hotel, and from the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed and cared for. Although the wedding events were held outside the hotel, El Palace felt like the heart of our celebration, a place where we could all relax, reconnect, and enjoy some unforgettable moments together.||A big thank you to Mr. Pedro, the General Manager, for his kind presence and support. I also want to give a very special mention to Elisa, our amazing butler, who took care of us with such warmth and attention to detail. Her thoughtful gestures and cheerful spirit meant a lot to us.||Everyone we interacted with — from reception to concierge, housekeeping to the restaurant staff was friendly, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. We felt at home, and that’s not something you can say about every hotel.||Thank you to the whole team at El Palace for making this special week even more memorable. We hope to be back soon.||Mohamed El Barkouki and family

The hotel was excellent — very clean, with a lovely fragrance and extremely kind staff from reception to breakfast and the rooftop. We truly enjoyed the hospitality and service throughout our stay. **However, we were disappointed with Amar, the Michelin restaurant on the ground floor. The food was overly salty and not enjoyable, and despite clarifying, we were charged twice for “extra services.” It was the only place during our trip to Italy, France, and Spain where we felt overcharged. A shame, as we hoped for a special final dinner, but the hotel itself was truly wonderful.

Checked out yesterday from our beautiful Mother's Day trip from this absolutely beautiful hotel. We arrived late from traveling within Spain on the night we checked in and the staff kept the kitchen open so we could grab dinner because we were tired and hungry. The restaurant was beautiful, clean, and the staff was friendly and patient. The food was delicious. We ordered a cheese plate, wine, steak and salad. All cooked perfectly. We enjoyed Brunch yesterday in their absolutely stunning corridor. The black and white floor were such a touch of class. The brunch was amazing! As we were leaving I mentioned that I didn't have a chance to visit the rooftop and a gentleman named Armando gave us a private tour. He even went as far as to showing us his favorite viewpoints and really detailed improvement the hotel made. VIP service. Upon checkout, there was a marathon and some of the road were blocked so the bellmen walked our luggage across the busy streets to our driver. I fully recommend this hotel to anyone visiting. Thank you team! -Melissa Robertson-Martinez.

This was the best customer service from any hotels we have stayed in. If you want to be treated like a King or Queen this is your place. The hotel has charm, from the trim and furniture of the lobby to Chandelier in your room. Air condition was great , rainfall shower head was awesome. I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed are stay. You will not regret picking this hotel. Only thing I wasn't thrilled with , was both bars. Everyone was friendly but they seemed overwhelmed when they didn't need to be

From the moment we arrived at El Palace, we were treated with exceptional hospitality by the entire staff. The level of service was impeccable, making our stay a truly luxurious experience. The hotel itself is an architectural masterpiece, exuding a refined elegance that is both majestic and welcoming. It perfectly embodies a timeless classic luxury, a standard of excellence that remains unmatched through the years. The rooms are of outstanding quality, beautifully decorated with fine materials, offering an atmosphere of comfort and exclusivity. Every part of the hotel, from the exquisite restaurants and elegant bars to the stylish and serene lounge areas, reflects a commitment to excellence and timeless beauty. We stayed at El Palace from February 7th to 9th, and one of the most memorable aspects of our visit was the incredible upgrade to a suite we received. As I had planned a special marriage proposal at the hotel, the team went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, surprising us with a suite upgrade that made this once-in-a-lifetime moment even more magical. A very special thank you goes to Fabio at the Bar Hall, whose professionalism and kindness truly stood out. Not only did he prepare exquisite cocktails, but he also engaged us in a fascinating conversation about the rich history of this iconic hotel. His passion and knowledge made our experience even more meaningful, and he is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding professionals we have ever encountered. El Palace is a hotel that embodies elegance, history, and world-class service. Without a doubt, we will return to this magnificent place, which truly deserves to be ranked among the best in the world in its category.

Google
We did not stay at this hotel but instead attended for afternoon tea. The hotel looks beautiful, however the afternoon tea was not what we expected. I will say it was aesthetically pleasing, but the biscuit, sandwiches and desserts were mediocre. Not as good as we were hoping they’d be and they did seem like they’d lingered on the kitchen counter for a while before our arrival as some sandwich bread was soft/soggy. All employees were extremely kind and quick to assist us with any questions when we entered the hotel but after seated for our afternoon tea, we did not hear from the waiter or anyone else unless we caught someone walking by. Perhaps it is better on Sunday as I understand they have live performances that day. For around £92, it was not worth it. *We went up to the rooftop bar afterward and had a great experience. The view is absolutely beautiful and we were assisted by the kindest waitress. I cannot remember her name but she is from Netherlands and has been there 2 and a half months. Would recommend the rooftop bar!

Yelp
Most times I travel around always stayed at a 5 star hotels, but Hotel El palace ABSOLUTELY not a five star hotel and not valued for the price, the shower room has no shelves space for shampoo & shower gel, you need to put everything on the floor inside the shower, and shower door can't close properly water leaks on the floor my husband was felt down and hurts his back due to floor slippery. the hotel manager did not show any courtesy or respect to this matter. She changed our room from the 3rd floor to the first floor the window is look out at a tearing out roof view. The gym room is very small and only has 3 outdated exercise equipment. You need to pay for entering the small sauna room as well. I will not come back to this hotel and not recommend.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. Garden rooftop bar had amazing views and delicious food. Staff very patient and friendly

Yelp
Quite literally the most beautiful hotel I have ever set foot in. From the moment you check in to the moment you leave, the Palace Hotel is impeccable. The outside façade is beautiful and impressive and is a welcome sight after a long travel day. We couldn't check in early but we could drop our bags off and then hang out at any of the many restaurants or cafe nearby. Our room had a small balcony which views to the street, the bed was large and comfy, and the bathroom was huge with a tub, shower, and double sink. The staff was attentive and polite. We also did the afternoon tea in the main hall and it was just a magnificent experience. The hall is stunning and the tea sandwiches and pastries are delicious. The hotel also has a beautiful rooftop with views of Sagrada Familia as well as the whole city. Definitely would return to the Palace and highly recommend it.

Yelp
Review is for rooftop restaurant only, but rest of hotel is pretty swanky. Rooftop view is outstanding, as expected, but food quality for tapas was extremely good and wine prices are reasonable (for a high end, tourist hotel rooftop restaurant). In short, a very worthwhile rooftop meal stop while in this part of town.

Yelp
OK, consider the 5 stars above TEN stars...this place is phenomenal! On a recent business trip to Barcelona (we extended for vacation days in BCN and then flew to Zanzibar for a week), this was the business meeting address. It is one of the best hotels I have ever seen, anywhere in the world. The service, location and rooms are unbelievably good. All of the staff behaves as if they are your personal concierge, treating you like family and saying hello by name once they meet you. I'm in awe of the staff here, especially Joan (pronounced JO-ahn, the Catalan version of Juan/John). Built in 1919 this was originally the Barcelona Ritz (as in "putting on the Ritz" and "ritz-y). You know it has to be a great place if there are adjectives connected to the name that mean expensively terrific. Once you see the front door and lobby, you won't mistake this place for a Motel 6. Location is unbelievably good too. It's within sight of most major tourist attractions, the business district is a short walk away and cultural offerings are also a walk or subway ride away. It's even easy to get to Los Ramblas and the beach. This part of town is also very safe even late at night, with wide open avenues and lots of people around at all hours. Probably the star of this show is the room itself. We were upgraded slightly and still given the business rate when we extended the stay. Picture a luxury hotel room crossed with Versailles. You'll feel like Louis XVI himself (minus that guillotine part) but waking up with a better view. The room had every modern convenience imaginable, plus even a few that we couldn't figure out what they were. The neighborhood is chock full of great restaurants and nightlife. There's a terrific hotel restaurant called Pavlova (separate review) too. It's a cliche I try to use sparingly: I really wish I could put far more than five stars on El Palace

Yelp
Amazing-Luxurious-Pampering-Service All words that spring to mind from our 4-night stay at Barcelona's original luxury hotel originally built in 1919 and for many years the Barcelona Ritz. Now a private hotel part of the Leading Hotels of the World consortium you feel special from the moment you arrive. We booked a junior suite which was massive and located on the 6th floor in a quiet end of the building to treat ourselves at the end of a two-week holiday in Spain. Yes it was pricey but a year from now we won't be remembering that, just the great stay in Barcelona. PROS: (based on our stay in room 619-junior suite). - HUGE room with a comfortable king-sized bed plus plenty of room for a couch and two chairs -large walk-in closet (was bigger than the bathroom at our "luxury" hotel in Granada -pillow "menu" with six different choice so you are assured a good nights sleep -massive modern bathroom with nice amenities and double sink -the double shower was sized for a locker room with a long bench, two overhead rain showers, and two handheld jets. -our room was very quiet and clean -bountiful breakfast buffet (included in most but not all room rates-TIP: you can sign up for the Leading Hotels Loyalty program (free for first year) and get free breakfast during your stay if it wasn't already included for you- this is what we did) -beautiful rooftop terrace with amazing views and a bar-perfect for a cocktail and snack -live music-evening piano in the lounge and live jazz in the downstairs club and DJ on the roof -BIGGEST STANDOUT is the STAFF-especially Paco and the entire the concierge staff who are there 24x7 and can book last minute concerts, make reservations and give directions in flawless English-so very service minded and helpful-among the best we've encountered in our travels anywhere OPPORTUNITIES: in reality, nothing of consequence-this place is very close to perfect -I guess I wish the tiny writing on the shampoo bottles was bigger or darker, it was difficult to tell shampoo from body wash but really really minor nit HIGHLY recommended

Mark B.

Yelp
This is a grand old hotel in a nice location. Very impressive public areas tastefully decorated. Unfortunately we had a room that had not been renovated. The Room HVAC System smelled damp and musty. The Carpet was worn and faded. The shower walls were covered in black mold between the dark brown tiles. The shower door did not close properly resulting in puddles on the floor. I mentioned some of the issues during checkout only to be told the room would be renovated by our next visit assuming we would return. Not likely. We suffered with stuffy noses and headaches each morning until we got outside in the open air. We were asked where we were coming from when we checked in. We had just finished a nine day Cruise. That put us in a low priority to get a room. As a seasoned business traveler who has flown to Europe on overnight flights many times, I understand how important it is to get a room early so to catch a little sleep. Unfortunately, they pushed the room availability to the limit. We were also very tired and had to ask multiple times about when the room would be ready. The Services were excellent in terms of the Concierge and Bellman. They were friendly and helpful. I would demand a renovated room and if they can't accommodate the request, do not stay at the El Palace Hotel.

Yelp
If I could give it 10 stars I would . Lovely hotel one of the most beautiful hotel I have stayed . The customer service and people are so well mannered and very friendly. Yelp
Absolutely fantastic property in Barcelona. The hotel has stunning aesthetics and interior decor. The room was incredibly spacious, cozy and way better than my 5 star hotel in Paris. The mirror TVs were not the greatest quality but that didn't bother me much. The bathrooms were big, clean and modern. The overhead shower was really neat. Hotel is located in a great area and is close to just about everything. The staff was incredibly helpful and they provided us with many great places to dine. This really is a great hotel. I would put this hotels design, luxury, and services up against an American Ritz-Carlton any time.

Yelp
I came to Barcelona for two weeks and needed a place to stay Passeig De Gracia, and the location of this hotel seemed lovely. Which it was! The rooms were clean, spacious, and very comfortable. I'd definitely give 5 starts when it comes to rooms! However, the hotel infrastructure does not deserve this ranking. Breakfast was mediocre. Not many healthy options, and terrible coffee. The biggest disappointment was their "fitness room". Four cardio machines, in which two were out of service for a week. And the others at least 30+ years old. The space was extremely small and the water barely worked. Definitely needs improvement!

Yelp
I normally do not go through with leaving reviews, but this hotel was beyond phenomenal from the moment my wife and I got out of our taxi. The service was professional and genuine (not to mention one of the concierge brought me his personal supply of pain reliever when I asked where the pharmacy was because I had a headache). The hotel was luxurious and our room was cleaned twice a day. I will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone I know that is traveling to Barcelona.
google avatar

MELISSA M.

Yelp
Amazing hotel. I've traveled a lot and stayed at some amazing places and I can honestly say the staff here is second to none. The breakfast is delicious and the room service food is fantastic. Centrally located in Barcelona. This hotel offers top notch amenities. The spa was amazing and made my daughter and I feel like queens. So much charm the hotel itself is stunning and the rooms and beds are exceptional. I can't sing the praises of this hotel enough. They have set the standard for what I will now look for in my future traveling accommodations.
google avatar

Yelp
I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Barcelona. Classy, polite, SAFE. This location is close to all attractions including dining, the marina. It has a gorgeous view on the rooftop. The pool is clean and fresh. The only reason I didn't put all 5 starts was because the breakfast menu could've been better, the only time I had awkward service was during breakfast, it almost seemed like we inconvenienced the employees working in this department, not speaking about the waitresses they were amazing! Each day we needed a cab the front desk politely called for one. We left for Ibiza and came back to Barcelona, tried a few other hotels but BY FAR this has been the best experience hands down, don't go anywhere else!!!! I promise you, take my advice and you'll see Barcelona the way you imagined.

Kaitlyn B.

Yelp
As soon as my taxi pulled up to the front of the hotel I was in love. Greeted by a doorman and bellhop each and every time we walked in, door was always held, and I was always offered assistance with my bags! The staff are amazing, the breakfast is yummy and in a beautiful, grand room with outdoor seating. I felt like Eloise at the Plaza! The room service was amazing, though one time I asked for a side of shrimp for my pasta and they bought mushrooms hahahaha. My Spanish is terrible and her English was equally as bad. She was so nice it didn't even matter at that point I just ate and it was delicious! I also visited the Mayan Spa for a deep tissue massage and sauna. The masseuse was amazing, she was very careful with pressure and made me as comfortable as possible. Also the oil was amazing, it's wasn't gross and greasy. The sauna is amazing! You could add as much steam as you want and they serve delicious fruit water(we had orange). The rooftop is amazing, each part decorated beautifully, the pool has lights and fountains, the flowers are bright and fresh and don't forget to go to the uppermost floor on the rooftop for a spectacular view of Barcelona.

Yelp
Fantastic hotel! Great reception and lobby area. Humongous lobby seating area too. Rooms modern and nicely equipped, great bathroom. Average (free) WiFi with annoying sign on. Buffet breakfast and premier restaurant. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This is a fabulous grand hotel in a great location. Impeccable service, helpful concierge staff, elegant lobby. Great rooftop bar and pool with awesome views of Barcelona architecture. Staff was 100% kind and efficient. Our room was maybe the most quiet hotel room we have ever experienced in a large city. Americans will feel at home here but still get the rich flavor of Barcelona.

Kevin C.

Yelp
Gorgeous hotel. Extremely friendly and helpful from the moment you walk in, until check out. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Hotel El Palace provided exceptional service. The decor in the hotel is exquisite and the location is great. Alex in the concierge was helpful with everything we asked. We visited the spa and it was very nice as well. It was a great experience and highly recommend it.

Yelp
One of my favorite hotels on Earth. It is home in Barcelona.

Yelp
This was a great hotel for our stay in Barcelona. The location is fabulous - you're just a quick walk away from so many restaurants, shops and sights. Recently renovated, the hotel itself is charming with modern conveniences. The suite we booked felt noticeably large compared with other hotel room sizes I've experienced elsewhere in Europe. Service and staff were excellent as well.
