Very touristy, but a breathtaking view. 800 steps to climb to reach the top, and a very nice reward! I'd recommend a visit as part of a package tour of Guatape and the surrounding area. We were lucky enough to arrive early to avoid the crowds. A must-do for the view!

Beautiful views, the walk is quite safe and you can enjoy ice cream and drinks at the top. Restaurants, shops, toilets and all facilities on the ground as well. Quite a big car park but better to get there early

In comparison to other places in the area, it's just OK... but you kind of have to go as it is on most tourist lists. The town of Guatape is lovely, even if it is a bit of a tourist trap.

Fabulous place, fairly easy climb & views wonderful. El Peñol Rock, also known as El Peñón de Guatapé or La Piedra, is a massive granite monolith located near the town of Guatapé, about 2 hours from Medellín. It rises about 200 meters above its base and has a staircase with approximately 745 steps built into a crack on one side to reach the summit. The rock offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding lakes and mountains. The spectacle is a result of the construction of a dammany years ago.

I visited La Piedra del Peñón on a Wednesday morning. They opened at 8 AM, and we arrived by 8:20, which was perfect for avoiding the crowds of tourist vans that typically show up around 10 AM. We rented a car, and parking was minimal, though I don't recall the exact amount. The entrance fee was $15 per person, which seemed quite reasonable. As you make your way to the top, be sure to take pictures since the view is better ascending than descending. Prepare for some breaks on the way up—trust me, you'll need them! At the summit, you'll find snacks, drinks, and souvenirs available for purchase. You're sure to have a fantastic time!

It's a wonderful place to visit. The steps are worth the climb. The views at the top are fantastic. The pictures do not do it justice. While it's easy to be fascinated by the views, don't forget to view the muriels/art on the walls at the top. It really gives a fascinated story of the creation of the rock. They have toilets, staff are very helpful. Shops for water, drinks, and snacks, as well as souvenirs. Make sure if you are climbing the steps you bring water. Highly recommended.
