"Why we love it: An Arts and Crafts–style masterpiece with a friendly vibe and charm in spades Highlights: - Sedona’s only Arts and Crafts hotel, with real adobe walls - Social spaces like a campfire and living room hearth - A pet-friendly policy with no extra fees The Review: Within a block of Sedona’s art district, this luxury inn stands behind a veil of trees and grapevine trellises. Its pink adobe exterior complements the greenery so elegantly that the inn once appeared on the cover of The American Home magazine. Inside the Arts and Crafts–style hacienda, arches and reclaimed beams of juniper or burl wood soar overhead, while period doorknobs, light fixtures, and heater grilles transport guests back in time. Each of the 12 suites has a custom-made door and unique design, with decor ranging from early California to the Cowboy High Style made famous by Western furniture designer Thomas Molesworth. Pet-friendly rooms also include grace notes like corner fireplaces, stencil designs, French doors, and stained-glass ceiling panels. When feeling social, guests can gather around the campfire in the courtyard or by the large hearth in the living room. El Portal also has a private garden, a fish pond, two swimming pools, and a full gym, and offers access to Sedona Spa, next door. While the inn only serves breakfast (pancakes, breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros ), guests can snack on fruit, cheese, and chips and salsa during happy hour each day while also pouring themselves a glass of wine on the honor system."

We loved it so much we extended our stay another night! It’s walking distance to shops and food but also not in the crowded part of town. The room was so unique and clearly they paid tons of attention to detail to create the aesthetic and it was wonderful! The rooms were large, beds very comfy (I’m picky about that one!) We have two dogs and the fenced yard was so nice! Plus I was really happy to get extra dog blankets and sheets to cover furniture so I didn’t have to worry about the dogs messing anything up. The whole place was just so comfortable, the staff was all nice and friendly, and I’d highly recommend this place to anyone!

My husband booked us an overnight stay for my mother's day present and it did not disappoint! The room was fabulous - felt like a cabin, with a working fireplace in the room! Amenities were fantastic and the location right in the heart of Sedona cannot be beat. Right within walking distance to so may fantastic sights/activities. Relaxed in the pool/hot tub, cooked s'mores (courtesy of El Portal) over an open fire pit in the evening, underneath the starts in our fluffy, El Portal robes. We are travel advisors and will definitely be recommending this one to our clients!! Will be back again!

Staying at El Portal in Sedona was truly special. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed, like we were visiting old friends. The property has such a soulful charm, with so much character in every detail. The owners and staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home. And being able to share it all with our pup, Lola, in a place that truly embraces pets made it even more meaningful. It wasn’t just a stay..it was an experience we’ll never forget. ❤️

What an incredible find! I was adding a few days to my trip just to decompress from a busy week, when I came across this gem! Steve, Sylvia and the other staff were so welcoming. They made my stay so comfortable. And the facilites are like no other! A quiet peaceful retreat but still close to all the dining, enter and shopping. If I could rate it higher than 5 stars, I would. Can’t wait to return.

El Portal is great. This is a fantastic hotel with a circa 1902 motif that, of course, includes modern conveniences. The hotel staff is the best and is eager to help with questions concerning restaurants, excursions, and local history. Check-in is easy and there is dedicated parking for hotel guests. The firepit seemed to be always lit and there are complementary s'mores kits available that we'll have to try during our next visit. There is a quiet laid-back atmosphere which allows for naps to be taken or for some work matters to be attended to. Breakfast is a very short walk away in Tlaquepaque village. A walking path under the street will get you to north Tlaquepaque village for more shops and eating places. For us, the energy and the atmosphere that makes Sedona a special place is also present in El Portal.

Google
An amazing property and the best place I have stayed in Sedona. Highly recommended. The property is beautiful with what feels like an endless supply of personal and elegant craftsman style touches, from the grapevine canopied courtyard, to the stained glass in the doors, to the hanging glass lanterns. There is a timeless Americana touch to the property in the mid century metal lawn furniture, hanging Christmas lights and fire pit that keep the adobe structure from feeling haunted. The wood accents, honor bar and art hanging on the walls lend a bohemian atmosphere reminiscent of the Big Sur and Santa Fe.

My family and I just got back from a one week road trip in Arizona and had the pleasure of staying two nights at El Portal. It truly felt like a home-away-from-home: a really, really nice home-away-from-home! The pictures on their website only show a part of the beauty of the hotel. The true beauty is in the warm and welcoming environment that greets you as you walk into their lovely courtyard. Every detail of the property has been thoughtfully crafted to the highest standard. The owners and staff have thought of everything for the comfort of their guests. And we were so grateful they did! We had expected our visit to Sedona to be spent outdoors in hot air balloons and pink jeeps and on hikes; however, mother nature had other plans as she dumped rare rain and snow on Sedona for the two days we were there. Luckily for us, El Portal is located steps away from a beautiful shopping and dining district. When we had enough of that we spent our time relaxing in front of the fire in the cozy lobby or reading in our perfectly appointed rooms. While it was not the visit to Sedona we were expecting, our stay at El Portal made it truly special.

El Portal Sedona Hotel is a historical event, a reconstruction of what a traveler might have found 100 years ago. Quiet and hidden just off the center of town, simply approaching the Inn sets you back in time. Shrouded in vegetation, it draws one closer to where a beautiful stone building with a central courtyard is found. The modern world quickly slips away as you approach. ||Fascinating stone and wood beam construction draws you into an aristocratic and comfortable lobby, the walls hung with paintings, primarily portraits by exceptionally accomplished artists. Leather glad chairs and a sofa welcome one to relax and enjoy the environment. There is no rush other than to enjoy.||The door to every guestroom is unique, built by the owner, just as every room is an exceptional reflection of the past.||We travel far and wide, and the El Portal Sedona Hotel is at the top of our list, offering a truly unique and memorable experience.

Yelp
We recently stayed at El Portal with our dog and it was wonderful! The owners were onsite and very kind and welcoming. The lodge is so quaint, beautiful and unique. They've thought of every little detail, including having a dog sitter on call who will come and stay in your room with your dog if you want to go somewhere without your dog which was so nice! They also give you a welcome dog basket with blankets and treats. The hotel itself is beautiful and you can tell each item was hand picked or created specifically for a purpose. We stayed in Room 8 (Juniper) and loved having a fireplace.

Yelp
This hotel is beautiful! The architecture is stunning. Take a few minutes to read the history of the owners and the building of the hotel. Every room is unique. The garden patio is perfect to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine. They have 24/7 snacks and drinks available and pastries are brought in every morning. Easy walk to restaurants and shopping. The Sedona Shuttle stop is nearby and is a quick and inexpensive way to get around Sedona. We can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. If you're looking for an oasis that is different from a standard hotel room, this is the place to be. Incredible decor, exclusive and private, it's a home away from home. Fran, Terri, and Shelly offered unparalleled hospitality. Use of the pool and spa a 2 minute walk away was great, apparently there's never a pet fee, and close to everything. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Our daughter found and booked this luxury pet friendly hotel in Sedona. The property, reception area of the hotel and the 12 themed decorated rooms have so many beautifully furnishings and made with thoughtfulness and love for their 2 legged and 4 legged guests. They have their own parking lot. Their breakfast and 24/7 honor system beverages and snacks, fruits etc is like access to an executive lounge privilege. We didn't use the fireplace but room AC was good and strong and you can self adjust the thermostat. King size bed was so comfy- no tossing and turning just settle in for a good night's rest. There is a fire pit in the courtyard in the afternoons. Loved the hummingbird at the bird feeder outside the breakfast nook. Guests are quiet and respectful. It's in walking distance to restaurants at Tlaquepaque. Close driving to visit shops, vortexes, and other attractions further up the hill. I can imagine before the holidays once the temperatures get cooler is an ideal time to finish your holiday shopping for people on your list.

Yelp
Had a great stay at El Portal Sedona Hotel. The main reason I chose this location to stay at during our trip to Sedona was because of its pet friendly reviews. Pros: -pet friendly! You're allowed to bring your pet with you throughout the hotel as one as they are on leash. They also provide a little doggy welcome kit with blankets, towels, dog treats and the pet rules. -we stayed in room 7. It had a nice large patio that wrapped around the side of the room. Note: there are two steps to enter that room. -friendly staff! They shared information about pet friendly restaurants (they have menus near registration) and also shared information about the story of El Portal which was pretty neat since the owners used to own a pet store. They also walked me to the room to show the highlights and to see if I had any questions -there is a snack bar that has a variety of snacks and beverages that you can help yourself to. If you want a snack at night, your bedroom key gets you inside that room. While we didn't take advantage of the fire pits in the courtyard, there were s'more making kits which was super cute. -for people who wanted more premium drinks/alcohol, there was an honor policy list where you could pay for items that you take. -they also had a few items to have for breakfast (pastries, coffee) -we didn't use the pool or gym but glad to know those are additional amenities you can take advantage of Cons: -none Overall, excellent stay. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This hotel has always been one of my favorite go to spots in Sedona, I love traveling with my pets and they are so accommodating each time I bring my dogs, they have rooms available, available with small yards and all of the amenities that you would want to pamper your pooch. They also have a Little kitchen that's open late that you can write down the items that you get whether it's kombucha, wine or tea, which is really convenient when you're wanting that, cozy, intimate, feeling, and not wanting to leave the hotel for necessities. The rooms have different themes are more rustic and artsy than others. Some have Jacuzzi tubs which are so relaxing and nice.! I've been coming here for years and can't believe this is my first review, the staff is nice and often they will run specials by nights. Get the third night free. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, this is your spot.

Yelp
In tooling around the state, we ended up here for a night. Enchanting, beautiful, incredibly comfortable, with friendly staff and a beautiful setting. I only wish we had had more time to stay and wander around because the centrally located property would have been stellar for a great home base.

Yelp
Our second trip here.. this time with the dogs. One of my favorite hotels ever. Terry and owner Fred make you feel so welcome! And they love dogs too. We stayed in suite four which had large patio for our dogs. Such tasteful, high end furnishings, great linens and bedding. And soaking jet tub - heaven after a long day on the road. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Can't say enough good things about this lovely place. Oh - fire pit in courtyard and fireplace in our room too. Enjoy.

Yelp
Had the opportunity to stay at the incredibly intimate, beautiful, and unique El Portal. There are too many things to list that set this hotel apart from others. Here are just a couple. 1. Feels like a small resort, spacious hotel rooms that feel like you're staying at someone's lodge and not a hotel. 2. Perfect location with walking to shops, restaurants, and quick drive to town. 3. The owners come to greet you and make it a genuine experience. 4. Dog friendly which thoughtful accommodations for all. I hope you have the opportunity to stay here and enjoy it like we did.

Yelp
Unique and great atmosphere. Staff is helpful and very nice. Great place to hang out at night around the fire pit. Really liked we could walk to Tlaquepaque.

Yelp
Just got back from our wonderful stay at the BEAUTIFUL El Portal. I cannot praise it enough! It was everything we wanted. From spacious, gorgeous and super clean (a rarity these days) rooms, to the cozy firepit that had a fire going first thing every morning to enjoy your coffee by, and first thing every night to enjoy your s'mores. The lighting in the courtyard just instantly draws you in and makes you want to quickly grab a blanket (which they have stacks to offer), pull up an Adirondack, get your spot next to the fire and chat with the other hotel guests coming and going. There were even people who had the GENIUS idea to work remotely at this beautiful inn. If being outside isn't for you, don't worry! There is a fire burning in the lobby, which really feels less like a lobby and more like home. There is fresh coffee made every morning and an array of breakfast goodies and snackies that you can help yourself to, at no extra charge (another rarity) . They also have small refrigerators stocked with various fun local beers, ciders and wine for you to try - charge it to my room, please! The conversation, the warm cozy feeling, the comfort of knowing you're not being glared at for bringing your family's most loyal companion (your pup), the ease of check in and check out, THE GORGEOUS ROOMS!!!! They even have a sweet little basket made up for your pup with treats to make them feel right at home. The owners, Steve and Connie, really think of all the fine details to make your stay extra comfy and special. That's what stood out to me the most. I am definitely making my way back out to this diamond in the rough!

Yelp
This hotel is amazing!!! I am so glad I found it and it literally made our trip to Sedona - the best trip I've ever been ANYWHERE. Likely since I was able to be with my fur babe and know we are both having fun and not stressed!! My company provides a sabbatical once you hit the five year mark and encourages traveling out of the country. However, I couldn't imagine leaving my fur babe Bentley alone for a long period of time. So, my boo and Bentley, made the trek from San Diego to Sedona via road trip. We stayed in room 3 which has a doggy patio so you can let your pup out whenever to do it's thang. They provide a doggy basket with sweet items like bags, blankets etc. The room is equipped with a fireplace but being that it was June, it was too hot for us to use. HOWEVER, they also provide S'mores kits so this is now on OUR winter wonderland list travel list. It also had a bath jacuzzi which was luscious after a long day of walking and being in the hot sun. (thanks for the bath bubble salts!) The common area - lobby/dining tables/dinette is perfect. If you have refrigerated leftovers, takeout etc. you can microwave and have all items needed. Also, the snacks are the best snacks ever at a hotel. HEALTHY and exactly what it should be when traveling in the wild southwest. The outdoor patio courtyard with growing grapes was so therapeutic and a great spot to chill and enjoy the outdoors but get out of the very hot AZ sun. It was interesting to note: that most of the guests did NOT have dogs, which in my opinion says a lot as well. It's just such a lovely beautiful zen space that will hold a place in our hearts forever whether you are a solo traveler or you have your pack in tow. BENTLEY'S REVIEW: "I give the hotel five out of five bones- It was ruff leaving after three amazing days at El Portal - I loved lounging in the courtyard napping - it was sooo good coming back to the hotel after a smokin' hot day in the AZ sun and hot rocks and sidewalks (thank heavens for booties - and thank heavens for BOW WOW SEDONA across the way) but the El Portal was PAWSitively amazing."

Yelp
Very quaint hotel full of beautiful furniture and art. The rooms are big and the beds are comfortable. Great(!) water pressure in the shower! Nice selection of snacks and beverages in the main room of the hotel. The staff and owner are nice and helpful. We appreciated the location. Close enough to walk to the main areas. I would say it may be time for some updating in the rooms. But we would Stay here again.

Yelp
I struggled with how to rate this review. We booked a room for spring break. When we arrived, we found out our room was double booked. We had a confirmation number but they could not figure out what happened. Regardless, we did not have a place to stay on our week vacation. I am not totally blasting them for a couple reasons. 1. They did seem genuinely considered and distressed at the situation. 2. They tried to help us locate accommodations thought they were unable to locate anything that would work. 3. They did compensate the difference between our stay with them and where we ended up. 4. They were welcoming for us to come back and use the common areas and amenities. The hotel looked cool and the people genuine but there was a freak issue that prevent our stay.

Yelp
Stayed here for our Anniversary weekend! First I want to say everyone is so nice here! Very welcoming! We stayed in suite 5! Our room was super spacious, quaint & had a fenced in yard with a private fire pit! Our dog loved that he could explore out there and say hi to his new golden friend who stayed next to us! We had a great stay! Go check them out you won't be disappointed!

Steve K.

Yelp
Staff was so nice and my family loved our one night stopover. The room was very spacious and had everything we needed. The courtyard smores were a great way to finish the day.

Yelp
This was a highly recommended place for breakfast till 10 am Its a walk distance from our resort which was pleasant as it was beautiful cool morning We were pleasantly surprised how quaint & homey this place is! We were greeted at the door & showed us the coffee bar. The menu was simple & reasonable- I chose the butter milk pancakes that were delicious Enjoyed my time here because it was a nice cozy lodge feel. I would highly recommend this place to eat The waitress held many hats and still jokes and laughed with us! They had a sign of 4 diamond star AAA rating.

Yelp
Outstanding place to stay, loved it. Also right in the middle of all the action. Trails, atv routes, bmx biking, eating, shopping. Owners are kind and helpful. You would not believe how beautiful and spacious the rooms are. A fireplace on the lanai is a bonus in March.

Yelp
They have complimentary snacks and drinks and alcohol that you could purchase through them. Located in the heart of Sedona, easy to walk to wherever for food and shopping. The Tlaquepaque shopping center is right next door. Multiple hiking trails are a 5-10 min drive. Hotel is truly a Boutique Hotel. Friendly staff, very welcoming on arrival and every time I saw them through out my stay. They have a steam room, sauna, hot tub and gym available for use. There is a fire pit in the common outdoor area and I had a private fire pit on my balcony in my room. I stayed here for Christmas with my Husband and my dog Sumo. They gave us a stocking for Christmas with chocolate, dog treats and toys!! Very pet friendly hotel! My Shiba Inu Sumo enjoyed his stay at the El Portal just as much as we did!

Sharon L.

Yelp
A great stay at a great hotel. The owners have thought of everything that could make your stay with them a comfortable one. Lots of complimentary snacks & sodas, coffee around the clock, continental breakfast in the morning and fresh baked cookies in the evening! Honor system for adult beverages with lots to choose from. They offer great knowledge of the area, from hiking/sightseeing to restaurant recommendations. The main lobby has comfortable seating in front of the fireplace or a dining table to enjoy with fellow travelers. The spacious inviting courtyard has multiple seating choices with a firepit to sit around for toasting marshmallows or enjoying a glass of wine or hot chocolate. Our spotlessly clean room (#3) had a single pull out sofabed which I immediately turned into a chaise lounge. It also had a private outside seating space with a potty area for your dog. We traveled without a pet and even though we saw pets coming and going during the day, we never heard a single bark in our unit. Comfy kingsize bed, lots of hot water for showers and a deep spa tub. Maid service provided on request and they did a great job! Limited parking but we never had a problem finding a spot. Walking distance to Tlaquepacque shops, galleries and restaurants. 10/10, would definitely stay again!

Yelp
We stayed in this charming hotel during a visit to Sedona and don't regret it. Tucked away next to the Tlaquepaque shopping center, you can tell you are staying some where special as soon as you pull in. The owner Steve was welcoming upon our arrival and was more than willing to help us find fun things to do in Sedona. The room we stayed in was beautiful and clean. Our favorite part of the stay was the adorable courtyard where we could relax and enjoy some of their complimentary snacks and beverages. We definitely hope to stay there again soon.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I loved our stay here . Steve the owner was amazing . The complimentary food for breakfast was pastries, yogurt , toast , coffee, teas . There were also complementary drinks , chips , fruit that we took for day trips. Steve helped us with hikes , answered questions about Sedona . Yelp
Nice, well appointed rooms. Most are dog friendly with attached fenced yards. Friendly staff with lots of free cookies and stuff. Self serve honor system for beers and wine. We've stayed there four times now. Centrally located near lots of shopping and restaurants.

Yelp
One of the loveliest hotels I've stayed at. The fireplaces and hot tub in room #4 were a great touch. The owners are so kind and generous - definitely recommend visiting the lobby and chatting with them. Centrally located in Sedona - within 5-10 min walking distance from great shops and restaurants. Would love to come back as soon as I can... cannot stress enough how great this place is!

Yelp
Beautiful getaway added bonus- totally dog friendly. Yes five star service for for the furryKids. I wished we had more time to enjoy the greenery and surroundings. This place was an added SurpriseFor Our 25th Anniversary. Quick walk Across the driveway to shopping & Coffee. Quiet, peaceful hidden gem. Defiantly would recommend and will be back.

Yelp
My wife and I were able to stay at this hotel during our New Years Eve visit and had an AMAZING stay!!! We stayed in the Flat Rock #5 room and it was perfect - A TON of character, spacious, and just perfectly appointed with everything we needed. In addition, the hotel also has a complimentary breakfast bar, as well as a well-appointed mini bar in the Great Room where you can purchase beer and wine. We were between this hotel and the Wilde Resort when we were booking and we're so HAPPY that we chose this hotel, due to the character and location - You're literally steps away from the Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village and all of the downtown area so you just can't beat the location!!! The Owners (Steve and Connie) were also super nice and the entire staff was amazing!!! We will definitely be coming back and staying at El Portal the next time we visit Sedona - 5 STARS!!!

Veness Travel M.

Yelp
If you're looking for that "something different" place to stay, in boutique luxury style, El Portal has the perfect combination of personality and distinction. From the moment you turn off Sedona's busy highway 179, you are cosseted in a refined backwater that could be straight out of the Frank Lloyd Wright manual. With individual artfully-decorated guest rooms and gracious public spaces - including a gorgeous outdoor patio complete with open-pit fire (and s'mores kits!) - this is as much an experience as a place to stay. True, there is no restaurant or bar, but the hotel makes up for it with other personal touches and a genuine sense of empathy from all the staff. The fact it is so well situated for most of Sedona, including the fabulous adjacent Tlaquepaque shopping, arts and dining quarter, is a welcome bonus, while the plentiful artwork and period furniture helps to maintain the sense of old world charm that is an almost literal breath of fresh air. Even better for us, El Portal is ultra dog-friendly and looks after its canine visitors almost as well as the human ones. We hope to be back. Often.

Yelp
This beautiful hotel is just feet away from Tlaquepaque where I love to do some shopping and see their beautiful Art. Our room Suite 5 the Flag Rock Hickory was huge and the pet yard is very large as well. Very nice set up in bathroom separate shower and tub. Plenty of room for me my husband and our 4 dogs belongings. The common areas are beautiful. I have a courtroom at home but this one is just breathtaking! Parking is easy and free. They don't serve breakfast anymore but still offer coffee, drinks and snacks. All the restaurants in the area are delicious and all with walking distant. This was my fourth time visiting EL Portal in Sedona(always with my pups) and the beauty never surprises me both this boutique hotel and Sedona are not to be missed! You won't be sorry!! Even the dog park has stunning views!

Jordan H.

Yelp
I'm rating El Portal 5 stars for a number of reasons; one- it is EXTREMELY dog friendly! Perfect set up for reliving your dog when need be with that being said; it is incredibly clean as well! The lobby offers a number of snacks and beverages at no charge and has a fab selection for premium and paid drinks! The rooms are decorated wonderfully and are incredibly spacious and comfortable! Everybody that works for the hotel is friendly and goes above and beyond. I was originally supposed to stay at a sister property and they put me here because it was undergoing construction and it was definitely not only an upgrade but a great experience all around. Highly recommend ! Walkable area to a lot of shops and restaurants as well :)

Yelp
We loved our stay here, definitely off the beaten path. The room we stayed in was huge and so nicely appointed. We had the worlds largest walk in shower and a tub with jets! The room had a view to the interior courtyard and a roomy seating area. I was very impressed with the overall feel of the place. I wish we would have stayed another night but our schedule did not permit.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at El Portal for our 1 year anniversary. I'm mainly going to cover the food aspect here and the hotel separately. We had breakfast which was about 30 feet from our room which was very nice. I have Celiacs (need gluten-free) and was able to manage just fine. I wouldn't say the wait staff knew what I could or couldn't have but if you know what you're doing on a gluten-free diet you should be able to navigate it relatively easily. I had the El Portal Omelet which corn tortillas instead of flour. It was good, but nothing special (came with potatoes and refried beans). My wife had the breakfast burrito and she thought it was very good. Overall it's a reasonable priced breakfast

Yelp
What a lovely boutique hotel located in the heart of Sedona. We stayed there only one night but wished it could have been longer. There were so many beautiful details both in our room and in the courtyard. Finding the hotel at night was a bit hard but we figured it out. It's walkable to lots of shops and restaurants. Location was perfect. Pet friendly as well. Really appreciated the morning treats. They were the perfect send off as we resumed our road trip. I would highly recommend this location.

Yelp
I've stayed at the hotel many, many times over the years and have always found it to be a real gem. Steve, Connie and the staff are always warm and welcoming to all guests and the rooms are fabulous. Steve is active in local politics and cares about his city. What shame to see a few local AZ people use this platform to give untruthful and nasty reviews because they have a different political POV. You'll know them when you read them.

Yelp
I love Sedona and El Portal. My third visit did not disappoint. This time I brought my nieces and they just loved it. I think room 7 is now my favorite.

Yelp
I had to give El Portal a 5, but they truly deserve a 10-star rating! It was my first time in Sedona. I found them via their webpage. Lucky us! Their comfy, cozy hacienda-style accommodations were exactly what we wanted to compliment our vortex hikes and much-needed respite from city life. Despite COVID19, they took all the necessary precautions to have a pristine environment where we felt safe. It was very difficult to leave this amazing place. Each room is artfully crafted in with the finest Southwestern decor. Terri, the concierge, was terrific greeting us every morning. She always had a polite answer for all of our questions with directions to some of the most breath-taking sites in Sedona. The added bonus is... it's DOG FRIENDLY!!! Every night we ate dinner by the fire pit and roasted marshmallows. Glamping at its finest! I have found my Sedona vacation spot. No need to look further... This is the place where you want to stay!! El Portal does not have its own pool, but guests can use the pool & tennis courts at the neighboring hotel only footsteps away. Less than a two-minute walk leads you straight to the Tulaqapaque, which is the local, upscale, high-end outdoor mall with several fine dining options, souvenir shops, and art galleries. El Portal is located in the Art District with several vortex hikes less than a mile away.

Yelp
Went from an old hero to a zero. Owners are trash. Facility is trash. Dog urine and poo everywhere. Hire some professionals to clean rooms and property. Wouldn't recommend to a worst enemy or his poor pet. Never again here or anyone I know. Unprofessional staff who argued with us and flipped the bird to my 14 year old son. Check the cameras in your lobby! Wow!!

Yelp
This is an absolutly beautiful dog friendly boutique hotel in a Great location. It's a parking lot away from all the shops and restaurants. The employee we met at check in was really nice. She showed us the guest kitchen area with complimentary drink items and a fridge with different snacks available to purchase on the honor system. It was monsoon season when we visited and as soon as we put our luggage inside the room it started pouring rain. So, we didn't really get a chance to check out the arts and crafts shopping area, which was disappointing, or enjoy the beautiful courtyard. However, if I had to be stuck in a room while it's raining this is the room I want to be stuck in. We stayed in the Juniper room and it is absolutely one of the coziest and beautiful rooms my hubby and I have stayed in. My husband wanted to live there! The decor is beautiful. There is a gas fireplace, different lighting options, cozy bedding, crank windows that open to hear the rain and a covered entry so you can enjoy the rain without getting wet. The windows face the hotels free parking lot, but that really didn't matter as the plants growing outside make for a lovely view. We traveled with our little dog and there was a basket of dog supplies in the room for him. For us, they left fresh baked chocolate chip cookies! Yum! The bathroom was large and the shower had a double shower head (which I found a little overwhelming once I turn them both on). The robes were a bit heavy for me but still a nice touch. I liked the wine and cheese hour in the evening, but was surprised you have to pay for the wine. Luckily I had brought my own bottle. Note that this is NOT a bed & breakfast. A bed & breakfast provides complimentary breakfast. Here they have breakfast, which is delicious but you have to pay for it. The cooks are from Guadalajara and make some delicious Mexican style dishes so I do recommend eating here. My only complaint was the bed. The memory foam mattress pad was off center and there's no way to move it. So, I slept on half a pad. Worse yet was how bad the bed frame squeaks! Every time one of us moved we woke each other up. It was one of the worse sleeps I have ever had in a hotel. I'm not even sure I could stay in that room again unless they fix the bed frame. I did let the owner know when I checked out so hopefully they will fix it. We will defiantly be back, but will stay in a different room next time in hopes of a better nights sleep. We loved the area and the El Portal!

Yelp
This hotel was great! Starting from the warm welcome we got to when we first got there to the quality of the rooms to everything in between. We absolutely loved it and would definitely stay again. Not to mention it was the perfect room for my little fur baby. Will definitely stay again!!

Yelp
Came across this charming small hotel and as we were staying by the close by Rancho Sedona RV Park, we decoded to come and enjoy a cozy breakfast one morning. While it is not inexpensive (see my menu prices $13-$15 per entree), these were large portions-the egg dishes using three eggs plus the sides of breakfast potatoes and beans (as in my breakfast) was a huge meal. The staff was friendly and we loved that they were so dog friendly. There is a warm feel to this room and place and not just because of the cozy fire. We were told the cook is from Guatemala and her cooking was delightful. We would defintiely return and think of staying here-great location walking distance to town-really almost in town-but nice that it is not on the main strip too. We are here in winter when it is slow so I can't say how crazy it might be in the immediate area, but it is set back and tucked near a brewery and many art galleries-so try it out!

Yelp
El Portal is by far one of my favorite hotels that I've ever stayed at. The rustic charm of the rooms originally caught my attention and I'm so glad we decided to stay here. We chose the Juniper room, and it surely offered the cozy and picturesque getaway that I've desperately needed after such a turbulent year. The rooms feel very private and you can tell how much thought went into giving each room its own distinct character. El Portal also has a great location in Sedona - we were able to walk to many local eateries and shops. Our stay here was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and we'd be happy to stay here again the next time we visit!

Yelp
Visited for brunch only. Had to park at the bottom of a hill and walk up since I was not staying at the hotel as a guest. It was a short but very scenic walk. The location has a an old time rustic lodge charm. The decor is great. We must have arrived after a bunch of tables just left as there were many that had not been cleared yet but we were able to sit right away. It was a bit of time before a server visited us but we could see that they were busy catching up. We were told the coffee was self serve and that was a great idea since they were busy, but the lack of ( clean ) coffee cups kind of made that an issue. Eventually we got coffee in non coffee cups and waited for the server. We got our order in an even though we we warned that it might take a bit, was actually brought rather quickly. The food was good and hit the spot. The requests for water were ignored but they eventually brought us coffee cups ( empty) even though we had already made do with other glasses. All said and done. I think we just arrived at a bad transition moment but since we are in vacation most of the "issues" did not affect us and the food helped make up for it.

Yelp
El Portal felt like home. We stayed in Suite 12 and it's a really big suite, big bedroom and fireplace and the bathroom has a jetted tub and the shower has steam mist capability! Steve and Connie were amazing! We also had breakfast here and the pancakes were really fluffy! We stayed two nights and wished we had booked 3 nights. Great walking distance to everywhere and next door the restaurant Spoke & Wheel, they have an amazing daily happy hour and great food (Oak Creek Brewery can get a little pricey as in $27 for a 14 in pizza.) Thank you Steve and Connie for making our stay special.

Yelp
What a crappy motel. Bedbugs everywhere. So dirty I would be afraid of getting a disease

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH! My fiancée booked a stay here during Thanksgiving holiday. 4 days before our trip he started feeling ill, he had a fever, cough, runny nose etc. He went and got tested for Covid but we didn't have the results before our trip. We didn't want to risk it being Covid, and risk other people or staff getting sick. The hotel refused to give us credit or refund. They wanted a 15 day notice to cancel! I mean who foresees themselves being sick. The worst part is they would have rather risked getting other people sick than being understanding. Please know that if this were to happen to others they probably would allow sick guests there. Please stay safe and book your stay elsewhere.

Yelp
Spent two nights here. Love the outdoor rustic atmosphere. The staff is very friendly. There is a fire pit to enjoy in the evening and there are snacks put out every evening as well as items to purchase on the honor system. The hotel is in the midst of the "little village". The pool is located in a different hotel that is walking distance. If you book your reservation and want to be in the hotel area make sure it is not one the Connie's rooms that is listed separately on the website with the other rooms. Connie's rooms are located about two blocks away from the hotel so having access to fire or snacks or the other hotels pool is a hike if wanting to enjoy in the evening. Plus the view is the back of a business in an alley I could hear the garbage truck in the early AM. Great if you have a family, but not as much if you were wanting a romantic get away The front desk was great in getting us to a room in the hotel for the second night.

Yelp
Not The Peninsula in Beverly Hills....Not the Fairmont in The City.....Just a perfect little place in Sedona. Not large....Not fancy..Well done with subtle charisma and ..just damn relaxing. Each room is unique and has a theme....tho basic continuity is kept. We stayed in two different rooms... The first room was previously booked so 2 rooms was my spouses solution since she knew this place was special The first room was The Garden Court, Room Three.....This one was my favorite because it was quiet and off the beaten path...The room was great and even had a wine cooler and fireplace....but my favorite part of this room was the bathroom...It was much larger than the other room we stayed in and was well...just damn cool. Our dogs like this room best too as they had a nice area to be....well dogs. It has a nice quiet private patio area with a fireplace...fences on each end.....so zen....so.... I want to be there as I write this. Our 2nd room was #6, The Hile..I loved the suite room layout and it was nice and roomy....plus the dogs like the area outside...The bathroom was not as cool as the Garden Court, though it was still better than 95 percent of the Loos I have been in.....Overall this room is better, the bathroom nice but the real drag on this room is that the area directly outside the room is a work area for the staff and right over the fence is a VERY large parking lot that was noisy ALL hours of the night. This room on a scale of one to ten is an 7.....2 points off for all the noise 1 point off for the groundskeeper noise In the morning we would hit the main area for a simple breakfast that we both loved... The salsa was really delicious... If you can afford it, stay here. If you can't. I am sorry...I was so lucky to stay here...I was so surprised when my wife surprised me. I guess I was double surprised.... The staff....What can you say? They were professional, very friendly, and fun to talk to. Each person there made us feel like we were the only guests staying there. What more could you desire? WARNING: Not for Snobs.....Real People Only! Oh and the Dogs were in heaven.

Yelp
This place ROCKS!! We just got back from a 3 day stay here. We have always wanted to stay here, heard so many great things about it, AND having a fur baby of our own we needed to find a place that allows pets. Located right at the entrance of Tlaquepaque, walking distance to many dog-friendly restaurants. It's really a fancy dog hotel that lets their humans stay as well :D Upon arrival we were greeted with the friendliest greeting by Terry and Steve (the owner). They immediately greeted Uncle Sam, our Boxer. You can tell right away that they love dogs! They have 12 suites, all very well appointed in Southwestern style. Most of the rooms on the ground floor have attached pet yards. The second floor rooms get the awesome view of the Red Rocks and the center courtyard. On our first day, we stayed at the Juniper Room#6, no pet yard but the community pet yard was right outside our door. When we arrived they had a goodie basket for Uncle Sam, waiting in the room. A fluffy blanket, poop bags, and TREATS! For the 2nd and 3rd day we stayed in the Hile Room #8, with an attached pet yard. The door was located conveniently enough for us to leave it open for Uncle Sam to go in and out on his own. They serve breakfast from 8-10am daily (which is open to the public), and they have wine and snacks out for guests in the afternoons. In the evening most of the guests and their pups gather in the court yard around the fire pit and have wines/beers and socialize...both humans and pups alike. During our stay I think every guests had at least one dog with them. Our boy, Uncle Sam, had so much fun socializing with a huge Irish Wolfhound, two other Boxers, and slew of smaller pups. I can't say enough about this place. They treated us AND our fur baby like special guests, and really made sure we were very well taken care of. We will be coming back again and again, this place is our new favorite small hotel!

Yelp
This place was a gem. It's a bit pricy but man is it beautiful. And the service was great. I'll try to save up the money to come back!
