We had an amazing dinner during our stay in Vitoria. We got some hammon as starter and it was delicious. Later followed by two massive steaks with potatoes and peppers. The meat was cooked really well and the quality was honestly great. Desserts were good, not amazing but typical so just not really our taste. Only “bad thing” (our fault for not looking at the website) is the fact that if you want the full menu you have to book it at least two days in advance so just be prepared.

This restaurant has a unique and special atmosphere. The staff is beyond kind and attentive. We had the roasted bell peppers, roasted cod and grilled artichoke. They have a few vegetarian options too. If you’re in Vitoria, this is definitely worth a stop for lunch or dinner.

El Portalon offers a unique ambiance, full of charm and character, making it the perfect setting for an enjoyable meal. The staff were exceptionally attentive, ensuring that every detail was taken care of. We had the txuleta, roasted peppers, and octopus—each dish was prepared to perfection. The dessert at the end was something special, a delightful surprise to conclude our meal. Highly recommended to visit!

They catered some great tapas for our group! Definitely in my top 3 for this city on culture, service and most importantly...food!

Located in a building dating back to the 15th century, El Portalón has a lot of medieval character to pair with it’s delicious dishes. I enjoyed the cultural history, ambiance and food. However, the waitress was quite disrespectful to our (appropriately behaved, spanish-speaking, hungry) group of six. She had three other people besides ourselves in the dining room, yet was neglectful, forgetful, and unfriendly. Our food came out at completely different times, with several of us having entirely finished our meals before the rest of the main dishes came out. The food was good and I would recommend visiting - but the service was subpar for the price, to say the least.

This restaurant is a must when visiting Vitoria. Situated in a museum-like historic building, the service was top-notch, and the food - while not extravagance - is of very high quality local Basque cuisine. We had the 7-course taster menu and the order in which they were served was complementary for the diverse flavors chosen for the menu.

My husband & I lived in Basque Country for a year--- the chuleta here was amazing, service was great. Authentic Basque. Loved it. Would definitely recommend & come again!
