I recommend going for atmosphere and drinks. The food was too flavorful and intense. Which made it a bad eating experience. We ordered the Pear and Goat Cheese Salad and Laminated Tuna, which on the other hand was lacking something. Food was overall nothing special. It’s quite pricey for what it is. We couldn’t order pasta because they ran out. Drinks were really good, I had a maracuya mezcal and my partner a tasty wine from Coahuila. The chips you get when arriving were good. I would only come back for drinks. Food can improve much more for what they charge.

Google
Beautiful courtyard, great food, great service. We ordered the bone marrow appetizer, wrapped it in blue corn tortillas with the salsa and guacamole and it was sublime. The roasted cauliflower steak was delicious for our vegetarian daughter, The steak, shrimp, and pasta and chicken mole was good too.

Google
This restaurant has a rich past which is worth 'Googling'. It's location in the heart of Mazatlan Historical Centro is because it's been there longer than we've all been alive. Whether you enjoy the sweet sounds of a saxophone drifting on the warm night air, or the gentle offerings of a guitar, El Presidio will offer the warmest ambiance possible while dining on Rib Eye steak or sipping cocktails. Don't miss visiting this unique Mexican experience while you visit Maz. (The restaurant is situated in the inner courtyard of what was once a family home. The large trees growing through the stones, the vine roots clinging to the walls high above you...they all have a story they're waiting to tell you. Go..hear it...live it.)

Took a cooking class here while in port on a cruise. So fun. So delicious. Couldn’t get enough of the hibiscus tea.

Google
El Presidio knocks the Mazatlán dining experience out of the park. UPDATE February 2025 We continue to experience Presidio as one of the true highlights of Mazatlán.. Gracias Miguel for proving El Presidio is a truly unique dining experience.. with an outstanding kitchen and a wonderful team who are committed to ensuring you will have a fantastic meal! (Breakfast, lunch or dinner! 🙏♥️) We were so impressed on our first visit, last year, we went back two days later.. in both cases the food and the service was just outstanding. When you step into this courtyard it's utterly magical, you will feel like you are on a movie set. And when the food arrives you will realize that, as wonderful as the setting is, it's the food and the service that are the real stars. We cannot say enough good things about El Presidio. They could have succeeded on the Beauty of their setting alone.. but they went much further and made El Presidio a "MUST EXPERIENCE" for anyone visiting Mazatlán.

Google
We had a great time at El Presidio . It was such an amazing atmosphere between the music , the courtyard and the great service. The food was fantastic. We will definitely be back and are already looking forward to it. Gracias.

Google
Cool vibe, the food is also delicious! I had the roast beef, so tender and flavorful! It came with roasted vegetables that were cooked perfectly. My husband had the rib eye and ordered cheesy rice to go with it, the rib eye was tender, cooked as ordered and delicious, and the cheesy rice was so good! We had Basque cheesecake and the goat cheese cheesecake, both were amazing!! Definitely returning and would recommend!!!

Yelp
Love it. Beautiful courtyard, excellent service, great wine selection and amazing food which included many vegetarian options. They also had a great singer the night we were there. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I was here 8/28/24 during a Carnival excursion that was Mazatlan Hilltops and lunch at El Presidio. It cost around $50pp which was not horrible. While dining here, we had tequila tastings and taco lunch. The tacos were tasty but not like extraordinarily. The Pina Colada was also nice. Located on a farm, dating back in 1876, this old building of the restaurant was rescued to house a beautiful venue, surrounded by a jungle-like natural environment with walls that proudly show its age. Chef Diego Becerra, the owner of the restaurant and master of the kitchen, personally checks the dishes to the last detail, to ensure it's to guests' satisfaction. If I was in the area I would come back.

Yelp
Lovely dinner experience. The old world courtyard with tables under the trees and fairy lights above was romantic. Waiter was attentive and gave great service. The food was delicious. We were there to celebrate my husband's birthday and it was well the cost (expensive by Mexican standards).

Yelp
We have been here several times over the years and continues to be one of our favorites. Beautiful location in El Centro set in the courtyard. Great signature cocktails. The smoked pork shank here is amazing. We also tried the catch of the day which was a grilled snapper that maybe the best snapper we have ever had. Definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
This is a charming restaurant in the fine city of Mazatlan. I first came here a while back, while I was in town for a friend's birthday. On the first evening that we were in town, we came here for dinner. I opted for the salmon, while my friend got a filet mignon plate. Both plates came with a unique blend of sauces, which provided a very tasty meal. For dessert, we had a sorbet which was the right balance of sweet and tart, and it came with topping that added a great texture to the dish. On our final day here, we stopped by for lunch. This time around, I got rib eye and potatoes. The steak was tasty and prepped with care, and the potatoes rounded out the meal well. To drink, I had a latte and a lemonade with carbonated water. The service both times was excellent. We were seated promptly, and the wait staff checked in on us consistently. The restaurant is located in an old building that was remodeled from the inside into the nice place it is now. I enjoyed dining under the stars that first evening in Mazatlan, and we sat in the indoor portion when we came for lunch, to avoid the daytime heat. This restaurant was overall an excellent experience. I recommend this restaurant if you find yourself in the fine city of Mazatlan.

Yelp
Beautiful spot for drinks and food. It is in a hidden patio courtyard. It was so refreshing on a hot day to find this lovely hideaway in Mazatlan. The service was quick and solicitous. Guava Margarita was delicious.

Jenn C.

Yelp
Great ambiance, especially for lunch. Charming, shaded, lovely outdoor patio space. You wouldn't know this place was like this inside if you just walked by the building. The meal started with complimentary bread with a novel and delicious eggplant and blue cheese dip. Pork shank was juicy and tender. Sea bass ceviche was fresh and excellent. Mango ice cream was a great finish.

Yelp
Beautiful Venue...Very Pricy for what we received. The Open Air Restaurant was very impressive when we walked in... We sat at the bar area, got there pretty early, and decided to stay for dinner. I was so disappointed with their cuisine. I couldn't even have a second bite of the coliflor appetizer... Who in the world thinks it is good to add a massive load of mesquite or smoked BBQ SAUCE ON TOP OF IT!!! (See picture) it was so disgusting that after the first bite, I could NOT stop burping. It was gross! All the food. I wanted it to be special, but it just wasn't; even the fish had some BBQ sauce or whatever it was. Okay, now it didn't stop with the food... Smokers smoking in the non-smoking area and to make it more unsettling was the word that they were the owners and friends of the owners. The owner and his friends are privileged to do whatever the F they want--very little respect and disregard for clients. I will no longer refer this to my friends in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Mazatlán or recommend it to people. I know the high-end and powerful, influential people in Mexico and will let them know too! The drinks were good! We were very disappointed to see what has become of this once culinary mecca.

Mary Jo M.

Yelp
Lives up to the hype. Best high end establishment in Mazatlan. Service and food are impeccable! A compliment to the downtown historic district. You will not regret dining here!!!

Valinda L.

Yelp
I recently hosted a wedding welcome party here and could not be happier with the result! The staff, food and cocktails were amazing. We had a taco bar and they were the best I have ever had bar none. Thank you so much Miguel!!!

Jesse M.

Yelp
Amazing place. So beautiful and the food was delicious. Will visit anytime we are in Mazatlan.

Vanessa L.

Yelp

MariBur O.

Yelp
Went for an early dinner. The food was good but not worth the prices. We had to send our food back because our steaks were cooked wrong. The service was horrible we had to ask for our check three times. The building is historical with a nice ambiance that got ruined by paying $52 pesos for a canned coke.

Jon B.

Yelp
Came here in search of some Mexican seafood ! This is one of the "fancier" places in Mazatlan but still very reasonable in price . Cool upper scale vibe , excellent service and lists of choices ! I selected the Fish ( I believe it was Snapper ) and it was amazing Z throw in the other sides and nice white wine and I was happy !! You certainly need to visit if you carve great seafood

Garen M.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible restaurant with amazing food and drinks. Very friendly service staff and beautiful ambiance.

Mark M.

Yelp
All the reviews are spot-on! The setting is amazing, in a courtyard that seems far from the bustle of the city streets, with lush vegetation and the sound of water falling. The staff are welcoming and the drinks refreshing. Our food arrived quickly and was superb, from the apps to the entrees. We're going back tonight on our last night in Mazatlan!

Paul E.

Yelp
Ok wow. We were floored by the incredible ambiance and service of this beautiful place. First of all, the food was to die for, would go back just for every single thing we ordered. Our server was incredibly kind and described the food exactly as it was (especially the Mole and chocolate hazelnut cake). The live music was soothing with a man with the voice of an Angel carved from marble and we felt like we were in a classy version of Indians jones the whole night needless to say this is a must if visiting Mazátlan!!! Especially

Stephen Z.

Yelp
The ambiance is calm. Service was great! The food was delicious and a must try place downtown!

Scott L.

Yelp
beautiful atmosphere great cocktails and drinks at the bar in the back the appetizers were yummy and the main dishes were good, not great. very nice service if you sit under the trees, there are birds sitting in the branches above you! Several people at the table were 'blessed'

Alejandro S.

Yelp
Food and ambiance is great. Modern Mexican food. Our service was terrible. Never brought us our apps, checked if we needed drinks or how our food was. I'm guessing we got the bad waiter there. I'm only rating the food not bad service.

Audry Q.

Yelp
Enchanting! Beautiful piece of History for those that love Architecture. I was looking forward to eating here and was slightly disappointed by the food. The meal did start with complimentary tostadas and an eggplant dip. We had the crab claws for starters which were ok, I could taste the soy sauce which took from the flavor. We also had the pork carnitas which were actually very tasty and were a good serving for 3, came w/handmade tortillas. Shrimp scampi was probably the best of the 3 dishes we had. Drinks were delicious, service and music were great, overall it was all very good. I would return for drinks and still recommend just for the experience and ambiance.

Yelp
We were looking for a good place to have seafood in Mazatlan and found this amazing place on YELP. It was a 20 minute walk from the cruise port, but well worth it! We went in around 1:30pm on a Monday and found it pretty empty. At first we wondered why such a highly rated place would be empty, but shortly after realized we found a gem of a restaurant. Beautiful old building with a lot of character. Great service! Food and drinks were amazing! A place to definitely visit again next time we are in Mazatlan!

Glen I.

Yelp
Wow, If you can only visit one place, make sure you go here. I didn't see it in the day time but the night was unbelievable. Food was excellent , ambiance was off the charts and the service matched!

Amie P.

Yelp
Such a great hidden restaurant. You enter in and the restaurant opens up to a beautiful courtyard with amazing trees and plants. You feel like you are in a jungle. The service and good was absolutely amazing and delicious. Everyone LOVED their food. We arrived early and we were able to get a seat. I hear it is good to try and get reservations.

Jonathan G.

Yelp
Like being in Casablanca. A magical elegant experience with excellent food and fantastic service. Prices are low for the great quality and unmatched ambiance. Spent $120 on 3 courses, wine and an aperitif for 2. This dinner would easily cost you $350- $400 in the states. You will tell your friends about this place.

Natalie S.

Yelp
Amazing place, great food and nature. We had shrimp ceviche which was to die for! Highly recommend it

Saya Y.

Yelp
Gorgeous location with live music and delicious food and kind and knowledgeable staff. Probably one of the best meals I had in Mazatlan!

Tana R.

Yelp
What an experience! We got very lucky to dine here yesterday and the food was ABSOLUTELY amazing! Definitely something I would come back for. The service was very attentive and we loved the atmosphere. So romantic!

Jeff N.

Yelp
Excellent ambiance paired with world class food. El Presidio is my new favorite spot in Mazatlan.

Nyla M.

Yelp
What a place for a special meal! The food was so good. Thoughtfully prepared from the freshest ingredients, there is something for everyone. My little group of four ordered the oysters as our first appetizer. Normally I am not a fan of cooked oysters but these were delicious. Tender, moist, bursting with flavor. So good. That was followed by the grilled octopus, which was my favorite thing of the evening. Oh. My. God. Thinly sliced, so tender you could cut it with a fork, drizzled with a light mustardy sauce that we ended up licking off the plate with our fingers, it was that good. My partner ordered the smoked pork shoulder which was juicy, meaty and quite rich. Two people could easily share this dish but he scarfed every bite (Save the taste I scored). I went with a fish of the day, which I believe was Sea Bass. Also improbably delicious, with a spicy bite to the sauce that had me reaching for my wine on a regular basis. One of our party settled for a fancy seafood salad and seemed quite content. The wine list is impressive. We settled on a tasty red blend which turned out to be from Cabo. Check origination, folks. It was pleasant if a bit overpriced. Desserts were fine. The chocolate cake ala mode was dense, rich and worth sharing but the Apple crumble was not a crumble at all; it was a tart. And the ice creams were very good, especially the hazelnut. Service was attentive without being smothering. The courtyard is gorgeous and romantic and where you want to sit. Splurge. You'll have a dinner to remember.

Newly P.

Yelp
Great ambience, great food, great service. I absolutely loved it! The shrimp toast was very imaginative and tasty. Tuna toast was fresh and amazing. The eggplant dip we got for our chips was like nothing I've tasted before. We gobbled it up and asked for seconds. My main course was the grilled octopus and my husband ordered the grilled jumbo shrimp. I thought his shrimp was out of this world tasty! How in the world was it so good?! We ordered a lot of food and two drinks and the total came to about $70 before tip, which was not bad at all. We left feeling happy and stuffed to the gills. Lastly, whoever did the decor for this place is very creative person. To turn a ruined structure into a fabulous restaurant is not easy, but they pulled it off well.

Yelp
This restaurant came highly recommend at the resort we were staying at. Its located in Plaza Macado area in an old decaying building that dates back 150 years. The house was built in 1876 and was Owned by Genaro Garcia until 1980 when the last family member left and then it sat empty until one of the granddaughters began to restore the home in 2010. It's very relaxing in the Garden Patio and is certainly of the best ambience in Mazatlan. The food was very good but the wait staff lack the skills for a higher end restaurant like this. We were perfecty fine with it as we don't particularly like being fawned over, but it would have been a better experience if the staff understood the preparation of the dishes more and could have answered our questions. Other than not high end service it was a cool experience. If your in Mazatlan the cool factor alone is enough reason to try it. Just be patient with the inexperience of the staff.

Brian B.

Yelp
Unbelievably good. Stopped in mazatlan on a cruise and really did not do much others that El Faro, walk around the historic old section and this restaurant You have to eat here!!!!

Max D.

Yelp
Great ambiance. Was uncrowded for us on a weekday night. Nice service. Great food. Would definitely come again. Really liked the empanada. Only thing that was questionable was the salad and the lettuce was wilted and perhaps had been warmed by the day or something else.

Bertha M.

Yelp
Ok so I saw some good reviews for this spot. Our app didn't take us to the right location but an employee saw us looking lost and referred us into the restaurant. I thought maybe the reviews had been from many years ago because this place looked dead. Not many guests and looked pretty much like an abandoned building. We decided to share the sandwich and man, this was , hands down the very best roast beef we have ever had in our life. When the waiter came back we said so Ans he explained the process of the 6 hour preparation for the beef. Totally totally worth the visit. Very pleasantly surprised.

Angelo S.

Yelp
If you aren't paying attention you could miss the entrance to this tranquil open air restaurant where the food is excellent both in flavor and presentation. My wife had the sea bass which had a roasted pineapple purée that was amazing. I had the seafood pasta and enjoyed every bite. Definitely will eat where again.

Linzel M.

Yelp
Beautiful setting with excellent food. The service is incredible delicious margaritas, and a huge selection of beers.

Tom Z.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in all of mazatlan. I eat here at least three or for times when I am there. The seared tuna is awesome. The Cesar salad is delicious. The ambience is incredible, you will not be disappointed.

Adrian G.

Yelp
Worst service ever Do not come here. We came for a special occasion and waited 20 min since seated. No server took care of us, and most of them were just seating by the bar talking to each other. We let a food runner know about our discontent and he told the server who just look at us and left. What a shit hole for a "fine dining restaurant" I am a prestigious chef from Newport Beach, California. I have been in the food and beverage industry for more than 15 years, and this so far, is my worst experience regarding costumer service.

Lorri P.

Yelp
Delicious and fantastic atmosphere. We really enjoyed the tuna dish and dessert. Service was excellent and the bathrooms were super clean.

Dave D.

Yelp
El Presidio was a fun experience. It is, by far, the most expensive meal we have had here in Mazatlan (though, for such a fancy restaurant, definitely still more affordable than a comparable meal in the states). The real estate (presumably an old fort, I am guessing?) is really unique -- open air, and rustic, but the lighting makes it a lot of fun. The food was very rich. One highlight was the roasted cauliflower appetizer, which comes with a sort of plantain puree which is awesome. Another highlight was the mexican coffee, which is prepared tableside in an impressive display of burning alcohol. The desserts were also very good, but rich, and would have been better if we had ordered some black coffee to help balance it out.

Ashlee P.

Yelp
This place is gorgeous! The courtyard is so unique and historic. The food is spectacular and the drinks are great. We did have a Spanish speaking friend with us, so we were able to communicate without issues. The service was stupendous and the atmosphere was so lovely. We'll definitely be returning on our next visit.

Johnny L.

Yelp
The Best Tacos I ever had came out of here.. the Grilled Smoked Marlin Tacos! Their romantic open concept atmosphere is like none other.. love the open bar in the center of the restaurant courtyard.. good drinks n grade-A service The only thing is I didn't ask for 3 mosquito bites -Mr. Juicy

David P.

Yelp
It's really one of the best restaurants I have been to. Fantastic atmosphere and phenomenal food. I'm leaving this review about 10 months after visiting because I have been thinking about this restaurant so much recently. I was even considering zipping down to Mazatlan (from the US) just to go to this restaurant again. Pretty amazing place!

Cathy H.

Yelp
We've been to a lot of great restaurants in Mazatlan but had missed this one. We were pleased with the food and service.

Rose S.

Yelp
The food and service were amazing, just what we were looking for in Mazatlan. The location is downtown which is pretty empty on Tuesday afternoon.

juliss B.

Yelp
This was the best place I have been in Mazatlán, the story of the place, the food and the people who serve were amazing. The ambiance is so nice to stay relax and eat!

Red R.

Yelp
Lovely ambiance with nice decor and trees that hover over you for a more private outside dining experience. There was live music when we went, service was great and food was a delight. Also, check out Analco next door for delicious mezcal drinks.

Barbara K.

Yelp
El Presidio is back on top! I just love the courtyard setting - it's so romantic, beautiful, quiet and private. We had great service this time! I started with a Tamarindo Margarita, my new favorite! Then we had Ostiones al Cotija, gratineed kumamoto oysters. Delicious! Original Salad is still really good, and the Smoked Pork Shank great, just huge! All in all, a magical evening with good food and drink.
