The Best Hotels and Resorts in the World: The Gold List 2026 | Condé Nast Traveler

"Three flights and two and a half days later, I finally landed in the Kimberley, Western Australia’s northernmost region. My stay at El Questro Homestead, a cattle station turned luxury property, would end up being not much longer than the journey to reach it. Regardless of the length of my visit, nowhere else could I have experienced all that I did there. This member of Luxury Lodges of Australia has 10 rooms and suites on a clifftop overlooking the Chamberlain River. As part of a 2022 Indigenous Land Use Agreement, the traditional Ngarinyin landowners regained more than 400,000 acres of the property in a historic arrangement that El Questro’s owners say will make it possible to increase Indigenous employment. Many aspects of a stay at El Questro, however, will remain unchanged: In the morning screeching cockatoos act as an alarm clock. In the evening you can sit and watch crocodiles in the waters below. Later, a tree frog may hop its way into your bathroom. Four-wheel drive safaris and helicopter tours will take you to remote waterfalls and hot springs, and here, in one of the most sparsely inhabited regions in the world, new animal and plant species are discovered regularly. I happened to be standing next to a ranger when he came upon what appeared to be a new species of beetle. But I was even more impressed by Injiid Marlabu Calls Us, an immersive experience developed by traditional owners Mary and Nelson O’Reeri and their daughter Shonelle. The family recounts how Nelson's grandmother Injiid grew up on this land and how it was taken away from her by cattle barons; how her son was forced into a state home; and how she found him again decades later. To listen is to learn about the challenges and hopes that life holds for many Aboriginal people today. You will likely be deeply moved, and it may prove to be one of the most lasting memories of your visit. From $1,572. —Dennis Braatz" - CNT Editors

Their high end reputation is well deserved and we were delighted. Service levels and focus on guest satisfaction are rarely seen so our stay was memorable. The rangers are extremely well informed and their subject enthusiasm made all tours interesting and fun. Stunning location of dining verandah and pool over Chamberlain River showcases changing light at dawn and dusk.

We stayed 3 nights at El Questro at the end of our Gibb River Rd trip. We stayed here last year in July and were surprised the place was quite busy at this time. We had a caravan bay and felt quite jammed in but this is the norm. |We ate twice at the bar area and these meals were quite sufficient and tasty with e ough choice. There is a steakhouse too but more expensive. |There’s plenty to do while here and we went to Emma Gorge , El Questro Gorge and Zebedee Springs. |Zebedee springs was quite busy and I advise to try get up the top to those pools as you will feel like you’re in a bath with too many strangers .|The road in is 16km of dirt with river crossings and a deep crossing just before the station. |You can also get fuel here. ||If you don’t like crowded places then go stay on the Pentecost River or Home Valley Station. |Overall El Questro is beautiful and we would return.

We stayed 3nights unpowered caravan site on the river/creek. Nice and shady but expensive, busyband think Club Med. Rock music every night at the Steakhouse Restaurant. Spoilt the whole Kimberley vibe but hey...popular. Unsure the alternatives atm but guessing free camp at Pentecost River or somewhere as 1 Gibb Rd has stunning scenery/walks but not the Kimberley vibe this 64 year old seeks|

I spent four fabulous nights at the homestead. Everything was just perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay which was incomparably better than the nearby Emma Gorge Resort (where I spent two nights). The service was great, the hosts/ hostesses charming. Highly recommended.

Had a three night stay. Wonderful walks and tours. Fabulous hospitality with a super selection of cocktails and wine, thanks Lachie. The rooms were immaculately clean and tidy, the housekeeper was very diligent.

Wow wow wow. |El questro was an incredible experience. Everything from the hikes, water falls & swimming holes to the helicopter flights and afternoons of amazing live music at the pub. ||We loved all the gorgeous staff and just truly had the best time ever. ||We didn’t want to leave.

We stayed in a Station Tent as part of a tour. When we arrived and shown to our test, the was a rechargeable light. Very dim. After we returned from having dinner the light had gone out. When I went to reception I was told that all I had to do was plug in the cord provided. There was no cord nor a power board. The toilet and shower facilities, which we were told was for our use only with no lock anyone was able to use. They weren’t very clean. The next morning as part of the tour, breakfast was provided. We were given a breakfast bag with FROZEN SANDWICHES. these were not acceptable and our tour director had to sort out a more suitable breakfast. Our travel group rated El Questro a half out of 10.

The station is really good with plenty to see and do. Caravan sites are really tight so you get to know your neighbours really well.|Steakhouse restaurant was really disappointing with 2 pieces of charcoal garlic bread for $15 and we had 2 rib fillets for $52 each, mediun well done that came out extra charcoaled...small blob of mash potatoes and a couple of bits of broccolini.
