Charlie Bardey’s Grub Street Diet

"I stopped at El Santo after the show, had a Corona and a chicken burrito that was so delicious I basically swallowed it whole in one bite, which made me feel proud in a boyish way." - Zach Schiffman, Maanvi Kapur

Google
For what we paid, the portion was good and the food really flavorful. Service was great and the restaurant clean... I will definitely be going back.

Google
Food was ok, definitely recommend the tamales. Tacos were not very authentic but the enchiladas were excellent. Atmosphere was great and the staff was very friendly. The pronunciation section of the menu gave away the mediocracy of the food but was funny to say the least.

Google
I had the special tonight and it was a great choice. Lots of shrimp and scallops, in a cheesy sauce, with grilled zucchini, yellow squash, and broccoli. A lot of food for$15.95. Update 6/24/24 It's been a minute. New entrance in the front. Same great food and service. I had Nachos El Salto Go Texas...a platter of nachos piled high with steak, chicken, and shrimp, with green & red peppers, onions, and cheese sauce. They were so good ! Also got an order of beef enchiladas that were good. This place continues to be a great place for a fantastic meal.

Google
El Salto in Brooklyn, MD is an absolute gem! 🌮🍹 From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch — friendly, fast, and super attentive without being overbearing. You can really tell the staff takes pride in what they do. We ordered the fajitas and they were phenomenal — sizzling hot, packed with flavor, and loaded with perfectly seasoned meat and veggies. Every bite was fresh and satisfying. And let’s talk about the margaritas — wow! Delicious, well-balanced, and honestly one of the best deals around. You get quality and a great price, which is a rare combo these days. If you’re craving authentic Mexican food and great service, El Salto is the place to be. Can’t wait to go back! 💃🌶️🍽️

Google
The food was mediocre. Service was terrible. The fajitas were bland. The sizzling meats were good, but I couldn't taste any fajita seasoning. The salsa was fresh but nothing spectacular, and the appetizer was pretty good. Once the food came to the table, we never saw our server again. I got up to get my own glass of water and stood 6 ft away from a lady who was so engrossed in her cell phone that I stood there for 20 seconds before clearing my throat so that she would look up. If I have to serve myself, then I can get a family style tray from Costco . I'm tired of paying inflated prices for a poor experience.

Google
This was my third visit here and I wish I’d tried this place sooner for as long as I’ve lived in the area. Prices are very reasonable and the food and drinks are pretty tasty. My only disappointment is I requested soft shell tacos with cilantro and onion but got hard shell with lettuce and cheese. It was still tasty. I also asked for pico and didn’t get that but had to ask for it to be removed from my bill. The server also seems to lack attentiveness but the restaurant was pretty busy and she was friendly. I certainly plan to visit again.

Google
Order a Pina colada, it won't disappoint. The enchiladas were solid, as where the tacos. Overall a very good meal. The guacamole was a wee bit salty. But the chips lacked salt so it balanced itself out. All and all will be back.

Stephanie W.

Google
I ordered pulled chicken tostadas. Literally took the 5 minutes to bring out. Chicken barely was barely warm. The food seemed good initially. It's been 12 days and my stomach is still not right. I know for sure it was the food here. All bathroom issues started several hours afterwards. DO NOT EAT HERE. Read the other 1 star reviews.

Yelp
I'll start by saying--I'm not really a Mexican food fan--but I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday (they love coming here every year), and I can see why it's a local favorite! We only waited about 5 minutes to be seated, which was great for a weekend evening. Once seated, we perused the menu and our server was attentive but not overbearing. I ordered the 3 hard shell steak tacos supreme, and while they were pretty average, I'll admit they were definitely a step above Taco Bell . My friend went with the #6 Dinner Combo (enchilada, taco, rice & beans) plus an extra beef taco--and they were very happy with their meal. The real highlight, though, was the birthday celebration--complete with a sombrero and lots of laughs. You can tell the staff really enjoys making guests feel special. Overall, El Salto has friendly service, solid prices, and a festive atmosphere that makes it perfect for group celebrations. I'll be back next year for the annual birthday dinner... and this time, I've got my eye on the fried ice cream! Pro tip: Come with friends--it's way more fun when you're celebrating something!

Yelp
Wow! I'm super impressed with El Salto. I've heard a lot of good buzz and finally got to check it out. We came with a big group and the staff were friendly, prompt, and accommodating. The chips and salsa we delish. We shared a pitcher of margaritas and they were fantastic. I ordered an ala cart shrimp quesadilla and El Salto Burrito. The quesadilla was a surprise, really enjoyed the cheese and it was packed with shrimp. The burrio was cheesy and flavorful. I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back!

Yelp
I have never heard of this restaurant before but I'm glad I went! Everything was super delicious, and flavorful. I love places that offer ground beef tacos so they definitely have my vote lol. Drinks, service and food were all good 8/10 if you're in the area stop in for a drink or quesadilla. WHO doesn't love good Mexican right
google avatar

Shameerah S.

Yelp
El Santo was a very casual Mexican restaurant. I won't dabble too much on the service since I came here with a larger group, but the service was good. It was nice of them to let my group and I (and another table) stay well 15 minutes after closing. The food was okay. I wish the street corn had more flavor to it. It was a bit bland in my opinion, so I was a little disappointed. The quesadilla was pretty good, it was definitely my favorite part. I had a glass of sangria from one of the people in my group, and that was good as well. I feel like this would be a good spot for something really, really, casual. It was just an average Mexican spot.

Yelp
Ordered from their many selections menu combos platter being vegetarian choices were limited . But they replaced beef with beans enchilada with one Chili Rellano pepper with cheese and sides of beans and rice for 11.95 also serve liquor beer wine. Service was fast and waitress was polite and asked if I need anything more etc Ambiance was comfortable seating with bar seats available

Yelp
I didn't know there is an el salto restaurant in this area, I used to go to the Towson area. The fajitas are always as good as it is. I chose the Hawaii fajitas, it was good but I couldn't taste any pineapples in it. The food came with the empty pineapples but none inside.
google avatar

Tierra J.

Yelp
Just started working around the area a month ago, so My mom took me to lunch. We enjoyed the fajitas from the lunch menu... OMG!!! It was soooo good. The waitress was great, at one point we saw the manager handing out entrees. It's clean, nice, affordable, AND THE FOOD IS EVERYTHING!!!! Since I work so close I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu
google avatar

Martha B.

Yelp
The food is excellent. The salsa not so much. It tastes like a can of puréed tomatoes. There is nothing else detectable in it. The prices have really went through the roof in the last few years. One meal is the price of what we used pay for two. Just too expensive for such cheap ingredients. Used to go weekly and now we rarely go anymore due to cost.
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
This restaurant has been here for many, many years and there is a reason for that. It serves good and affordable food. I got a small combination plate with a taco and enchilada and it was delicious

Laura L.

Yelp
The service was great, the restaurant ambience was nice, but the food was terrible. Everything but the queso was terrible. All the sauces tasted like they were poured right out of a can. Everything was out of a box/ can.

A M.

Yelp
Great service. Good food but you have to ask for spice. Will be back and eat there. Got take out
google avatar

Meghan O.

Yelp
I love this place. The menu has so many options and everything I've had is delicious. I'm allergic to avocado and I've never had a problem removing it from a dish. I found this place pretty quickly after moving into the area and when my partner and I want a simple night out for dinner El Salto is our go-to. The staff is always really friendly and everything comes out so quickly. The restaurant is casual and we even came in costume when we went on Halloween. I've always had a good time and when the weather is warmer I love the outdoor seating.
google avatar

Emmy L.

Yelp
The location has plenty of parking within a shopping center. The restaurant is clean and seating indoors and outdoors. Customer service was excellent. The food portions a great and my nachos had fresh ingredients. My only down side was the queso drizzle. It was a little too watery for my like. It will remain as a lunch option.
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
Finally found a Mexican restaurant in Baltimore with queso blanco sauce and fajita nachos the way they do it down south. Loved the frozen margaritas. It's always best when they're from the margarita machine vs being blended behind the bar. The food was okay but a little bland. However portion size was on point. The fajita quesadilla is HUGE and filling.

Yelp
A relatively good Mexican restaurant in Brooklyn, Maryland, not super far from Washington, D.C.. I had business up here and stopped in for a meal. The food was good, not great, but good. I would definitely recommend a visit here and a nice meal.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best place to go for any occasion. The food is always great, and the new outside dining area is amazing, and the updated bar area and all the updates they have made to the interior & exterior are amazing!

Yelp
When we see its parking lot is full on a Wednesday night, we know we made a good choice. It's full inside when we got there at around 6:45pm. It's authentic Mexican as it promises. Every plate has a good amount of food and it is tasty. I was surprised to see the price - for a big plate of enchilada, taco, and chalupa is under $9 on the dinner menu. Chips are warm with good sausa. Service is also quick. Will go back if we are in the neighborhood again.
google avatar

Jude T.

Yelp
Went here a few weeks back. Was very good - just as good as my local one in Parkville. Food was excellent! Had fajitas cooked in a pineapple and that was amazing. The price was high but I had enough for TWO MORE lunches the next two days, so whatever. Service? The server forgot to give us utensils at first, but other than that it was great. Restaurant parking lot is the only drawback...faded lines, faded handicapped paint that is almost impossible to see when the sun is glaring at you from the right angle. But I'd go again for sure.

Yelp
A true taste of Mexican cuisine. Honestly, I remember my margarita more than anything. We had 3 large margaritas going at the table and the original was the best. The strawberry was flavorful without being over sweet and the mango was the perfect hit of tang and sweet. Drinks aside! Choices! I love that you can substitute beans instead on the rice. Rice and I don't get along gastrically, so black beans were a great option. I played with the combination plates to the point that I almost covered my eyes and pointed. The salsa didn't taste like it came from a jar, which is incredibly important. Our server didn't hover, but we never went without. Being seated and paying were both seamless processes. I can't wait to go back, grab a menu, and point

Bryan W.

Yelp
Amazing food and it was very quick and I got a ton of food with the 2 person meal. Highly recommend

Yelp
So I just moved into this area, and this place was great. Totally eclipsed every other Mexican restaurant I've ever had. I'm so glad this was one of the first places I popped into. My girlfriend and I have been jumping through the menu, trying to taste as many things as possible. The chips keep coming, and the servers pay great attention all throughout. Plus, even when it's packed, it doesn't feel like you're right on top of everyone like in some places. Great food, great service, and great environment!
google avatar

Rebecca L.

Yelp
My husband and I come here when we are in the mood for some quick Mexican food. The staff are always friendly, and once you are seated, they bring you warm tortilla chips and a bottle of salsa. Their cheese dip is a-mazing! Entree sizes are very generous and most often, we do not finish our meals. They have a wide variety of options and you can build your own or pick from their set options. FYI - they have lots of parking available in the plaza.
google avatar

Rick R.

Yelp
The new bar is nice. The servers are nice. The food is low quality now. I woke up with the worst stomach pains. I should have known better to go with the regular beef. The Chile relleno was so chewy and tough. I wanted to relive the old El Salto vibe but I was severely disappointed. In all honestly the Tex mex variety here is comparable to Taco Bell.
google avatar

Tanya G.

Yelp
We've been going here for over 20years and the food has always been great. Every other place we go to we compare it to The Salt as we call it and it just doesn't stack up.
google avatar

Raven T.

Yelp
Just as good if not better than the Baltimore County location I usually hit up in Parkville. Sitting in a meeting I had a sudden urge for churros. I remembered that there was an El Salto on Ritchie Hwy. Turns out it was right around the corner . . . I ordered take out. I usually stick with one of the numbered combos. This time it was enchiladas, rice and beans; simple and delicious. The staff was super friendly; the food came out fast and stayed hot on my roughly 30-minute drive home. Dinner, dessert, and lunch for the next day for $20; can't beat it. Craving satisfied!
google avatar

Noah D.

Yelp
Very authentic Mexican cuisine and amazing prices, I love the menu and how I'm able to modify just about anything also the vegetarian menu is full of selections as well. Location matches the aesthetic in my opinion. I'll be back to try other meals soon also everyone if very friendly and fully of energy.

Henry B.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Service was great. Not crowded so food came in under 7 minutes. Only complaint was the seating. Pretty uncomfortable!
google avatar

Nikki G.

Yelp
Lots of good reviews for this place, so I definitely had to give it a try. I've become picky when it comes to handing out 4 or 5 stars for Mexican food because I've had some really amazing Mexican. We ordered the Nachos Supremos and it was good. We cleaned the plate. But I can't say that it was amazing or memorable. Along with that, I went for the Sangrita on the rocks, and it was pretty good. Not overly sweet (probably because of the sangria part). I'd order it again. For my main meal, I ordered the Chori Pollo, which is grilled chicken breast with chorizo, onions, cheese, refried beans, rice, and choice of flour or corn tortillas. Another good dish, but can't say it was amazing. If I come back here, I'd like to try out some tacos. You'll most likely enjoy your meal if you come here, so by all means, please do! I just felt it was missing some fire-grilled flavor, some traditional flavor, things like that.

Yelp
Absolutely my favorite restaurant. I would eat it every day of every week if I could. I love the family atmosphere, and the servers are so nice here. They really try their best to make you feel welcome. Their tacos and rice are the best I've ever had, and I love their fried ice cream and churros. Overall, just an amazing restaurant for high-quality, medium price Mexican food. I drive all the way up from North Bethesda to get here.

Jessica T.

Yelp
This place is amazing from the great customer service to the amazing food! I got the pineapple fajitas and they were the best I have ever had!!! And don't for get the amazing music the have and they will start having live bands on the week.

Mindy W.

Yelp
QuesaBirria Tacos with a side of Street Corn. Thank me later. You won't find a better Birria taco this side of Maryland. Staff is always friendly and welcoming.
google avatar

Stephen P.

Yelp
The food is my favorite for Mexican food and the menu huge. I love the Chimichangas, but am not a fan of the beef. Overall, 5 star food that'll spike your blood pressure and 3 star service. Drinks won't be filled timely and neglect at tables happen on more trips than I would like.
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
My family has been coming hear for well over 20 years now. Theres alot of "Mexican food" places around, and alot of them in the AA county area are darned good. But this place is the standard that I hold all others to and compare to. Seriously, I am like "almost as good as El Salto" or " It aint no El Salto." Lol. Now that I moved out of tthe area, I tell you theres nothing remotley comparable that I have yet found in my new area. So every chance that I am back in the area I head over to El Salto again. What I like is the Steak Fajita nachos. This is a sinfully good creation. Everything I like from the fajitas on-top of nachos. Good amount of steak, onions, grean & red peppers and white melted cheese. I ask them to hold the tomato's. O man, what a treat! My family seems to get a-little of everything from the menu. If you just want a lighter lunch I think you can get 3 tacos for about $5. I dont believe you can go wrong at this place. Obviously, I highly recommend.

Angela R.

Yelp
Been coming about 20 years and have NEVER been disappointed. Over the years there aren't many items I haven't tried but always go back to my favorites. The tacos carne asada are my favorite but all are tasty. The margaritas are the best! I find this restaurant is homey and delicious
google avatar

Brandon N.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican and cheap!! The menu covers all the Mexican bases from Margaritas to traditional Mexican dishes. The combination dinners are the way to go with a ton of food for under $10. The service is great but watch out for the hot plates!!! They are burn your fingers hot. Otherwise pretty much everything is good, especially the Chili's Rellenos and the tacos. The tacos are savory finely ground beef with fresh shredded lettuce and Mexican cheese. Ask about the Texas margarita with a side shot of mezcal.
google avatar

Aj C.

Yelp
Love this place for authentic Mexican cuisine! I drive from the city just to get it! Love the fajitas !

Robert S.

Yelp
Have being going to this restaurant several times a year for the last 7 years. However a recent visit was disappointing. My daughter ordered a margarita and the drink came with a cockroach in the ice. I reported my visit to the health department
google avatar

Sandra U.

Yelp
I ate here on a while while staying in town for the weekend. Their food is really good. I had El Cuazelon, and some cheese dip. The cheese dip was pretty standard. The dinner was chicken, steak, shrimp, and chorizo with rice, beans, lettuce, Pico de Gallo, and tortilla. The meats were delicious and the rice and beans were flavorful. When I first came in they or my name on the list and the wait was very short despite being fairly busy. My waitress was kind, considering I was alone, and incredibly patient while waiting for me to make up my mind. She kept checking in and was attentive when I needed the check and a box. Salsa was on point!
google avatar

Wendy S.

Yelp
The food was delicious and not expensive. The server was nice and very good. We had the chicken and steak fajitas with chips and caso. Was fantastic.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
I like this place and occasionally come here for lunch after shopping at the Value Village across the street. I took my husband here and he was not a fan but ah well. I do not mind dining solo. ; ) More for me! Many of the dishes tend to be meat intensive which I don't mind. Hubby is used to more ingredients in burritos and is a frequent customer of Chipotle. They have a good selection of mexican beers, margaritas, and plenty of entrees to choose from. The food here is decent but not spectactular, as others have said. I've had worse and I've had better. They have plenty of seating and it tends to not be too busy on early afternoons.
google avatar

Thomas R.

Yelp
Absolutely the best Mexican restaurant in town. Unpretentious, I'm-back-in-San Antonio-feel. Everyone is pleasant. The beer is ice cold and the plates are hot! Pricing is affordable. All day Tuesday HH makes it even better.

Yelp
El Salto is a Glen Burnie classic! I've been coming to El Salto for quite literally my entire life. Honestly, it's the best thing (the only good thing?) about coming home to see my family (that may seem harsh but if you're from Glen Burnie you know exactly what I mean). When I was little, I loved their tacos. They have such a unique taste. But let me get down to business and tell you that El Salto is the best damn queso I've ever had in my entire life. They give you chips and salsa (the salsa is great too--also a unique flavor to it) and you'll go straight to ordering queso for those chips if you know what's up. As an adult, my go-to is either the plate of tamales or the chimichanga. You can't go wrong, and the lunch specials are super cheap and super generous. For drinks, I love the half-margarita, half-sangria slush. But really, any drink here is going to be great. I've also seen people get fajitas on huge, delicious steaming hot plates, so if that's your thing I'm sure you'll love it. Listen, if you're going to complain about how you just spent 3 weeks in Oaxaca eating tamales and El Salto OFFENDS YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF MEXICAN FOOD then, first of all, what are you doing in Glen Burnie and second of all, get your head out of your ass. El Salto is undoubtedly the best place in Glen Burnie for your Mexican food guilty pleasures.
google avatar

Amber R.

Yelp
Good food. Basic american Mexican with white american queso yummmm. No al pastor or fancy tacos. Refried beans, rice, enchilada sauce and chorizo had great flavor! And they have Mr.Pibb!! Service was great and they were packed! Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Dave Williams W.

Yelp
Love this place. After hearing everyone at work race about this place, had to see what the hype was about. The El Salto nachos with chicken, steak and cheese is phenomenal! Tried several other items. Nothing disappoints!
google avatar

Rob M.

Yelp
A big shout out to Yelp. We do not normally get over to this part of Baltimore, but had a performance to attend at the Chesapeake Arts Center and were looking for something good and convenient. We tried Salto based on the reviews and were very pleased. This is authentic Mexican food with traditional dishes at a very good price. The queso, which was highly recommended, was outstanding. They offer a multitude of combos and several in our group were very pleased with the enchilada, chili relleno and tamale combo. Not many places prepare either tamales or chili rellenos well, but Salto does both. I tried the chicken grill burrito which was very flavorful, perfectly grilled and very plentiful. Salto provided a terrific authentic Mexican dinner at a very reasonable price.

Yelp
I came here for my friend's birthday and the restaurant was able to accommodate our large group of 18 people. They arranged three tables together length wise and added a booth at the end. The chips and salsa were not impressive at all. My friends and I all enjoy spicy food so when we asked for some hot salsa from our waiter all we received was a green dip that was more sour than anything else. However, the wait staff was pretty attentive with taking orders and refilling drinks. Their menu comes with many options; most of it is the regular tex-mex type that you find in chain restaurants (tacos, chimichangas, burritos, enchiladas, etc). They also have an extensive "combo" list where you can mix and match items such as 1 burrito and 2 tacos or 1 taco and 2 enchiladas. I ordered the fajita quesadilla which came with rice, cheese, shrimp, steak, chicken, peppers, and onions. When the food arrived it looked more like a gigantic chalupa from Taco Bell than a quesadilla. The tortilla was thick and crispy and not in that circular shape that I'm used to seeing from a quesadilla. The taste however was pretty good; the shrimp a little bland but the chicken and steak had some nice flavor. As I mentioned before, I enjoy spicy food and my dish was lacking any real spices so I did have to douse some habanero sauce on top. Overall my experience was okay, nothing THAT bad, besides the salsa, and nothing THAT great either. My friends said that all their entrees came out decent as well. Finally when it came time to wish my friend happy birthday, the staff came out with a sombrero and guitar and started singing to him and even made the birthday boy wear the sombrero for the rest of the time we spent there, which I thought was a nice touch.

Tashieka T.

Yelp
I enjoy their monday taco deal. The taco isn't the best but it's worth it at $1 a piece. Their fajita taco salad and fajita quesadillas are great.
google avatar

Cierra E.

Yelp
It's conveniently located: if you go on the website menu I ordered #20 and taco salad 3 stars only because it taste like any other Mexican place nothing really pops but I did take it to go... This is what I wanted for dinner so I got what I wanted and I'll most likely order again if I want something close but I like Chevy's or Plaza Garibaldi (across from Marley station mall) better. They do not deliver only dine in & take out
google avatar

Cristine W.

Yelp
El Shittos (as I've tragically renamed it) is HORRIFICALLY HORRIBLE!!!! I will NEVER EVER eat there again! Thank all unholy it was my first and definitely my last time everrrrrr going to this shytehole!!! I seriously wish I could give it a million negative stars! The fajita was not sizzling and I'm pretty sure it was just scraped leftovers from someone else's plate. The "steak" (bs~more like sewer rat) was beef jerky, the "chicken" (3 day old dead crow) was as mushy as earwax and the "shrimp" (I've got nothing but it wasn't frucking shrimp) was saltier than an exes tears. The salsa tasted like tomato paste rotting in the sun and the cheese dip was off brand velvetta scraped from a homeless guys foot. HORRIBLE SERVICE doesn't even begin to describe how sucky our lame a$$ waitress was. Omg awful awful awwwwwwful!!!!!!! I feel the urge to go home and shower Ace Ventura style.....
