25 Places to Really Bug Out

"Now entirely fenced-off from the public, the El Segundo Butterfly Preserve is a wildlife sanctuary dedicated to the endangered El Segundo Blue Butterfly. The preserve is located on the remains the ghost town of Surfridge, California. Surfridge was once a wealthy beachfront enclave neighborhood and was frequented by Hollywood’s elite include Cecil B. De Mille,  Mel Blanc, and Mae Murray. Today a four-mile path surrounds the perimeter of the preserve and is an excellent place to see the ocean, watch planes take off and land at LAX, and see the remains of Surfridge and the reclaimed habitat of the El Segundo Blue Butterfly. The best time to see butterflies is during the later summer months when an estimated 125,000 butterflies now take flight within the preserve." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

It was a week day at rush hour- I decided on the spur of the moment to make a right turn taking me to Playa Del Rey beach as opposed to taking a left, bumper bumper freeway traffic- My dog Finn had never been to the beach (hes is from COS, CO) Please Note: I was unaware of the "No Dogs on the Beach" Policy which worked in our favor! It was breathtakingly Bautiful and one of my favorite days with my dog aFinn

Formerly the site of Surfridge, CA, a beach residential neighborhood for Hollywood elite built in 1921. In the 60's , LAX acquired the land and razed the homes, but the streets remain. It is fenced off to the public but is now used as a Preserve for the Blue Butterfly, once near extinction and not found anywhere else on earth. Best time to walk the perimeter and spot them is late summer. Free parking along Waterview Street, along the beach.
