El Tapatio

One of my favorite Mexican food spots in Burbank. Family run and people are always super nice. Love their chimichangas, tortas, and burritos. My current favorites have been either the carnitas or shrimp burrito.

I have been meaning to check out this place for a year now but something always keeps coming up. Finally I was able to get some grub from this joint. This place is interestingly located at the corner of Alameda and San Fernando. You can sometimes miss if but it’s right across T Traders Joe. They have a decent menu and specials and the price Is reasonable. The god party is that they accept credit cards. I ordered a fish burrito and the 4 taco plate. The food for hot and quick. They also have a small seating area where you pick up your food. I am from Chicago and I have been looking for a good Mexican joint for sometimes now but alas I have not found one. The food was ok. My taco Al pastor was not tasty at all. Also the fish burrito was sub par. Maybe I was expecting a lot but the food is very plain and lacked flavor. The meat was tough and lacked any flavor. The Horchata was decent but they could do better. I may try out another dish in the future but my search continues.

Had a “Fried Mojarra” A decent size fish with rice and beans and salad as sides. I enjoyed it because I really love fish. It was fried right there for me. Flavor wise not much to say, may be a good idea to serve some tartar or garlic sauce just to give a little bit of flavor to it. Try to find parking nearby or if you’re lucky you may find some spots in the back. There’s only 3 tables so it’s more for takeout. No restrooms.

I have ordered here more than once because the food is delicious! Sometimes they don’t greet you right away when you’re at the window, I would have to wait while until they see me.

You’re never going to find a better burrito on the block. Stop fooling yourself. Although the “green chili” was just tomatillo salsa, I still say five stars. Because it was so so so good.

Love this place! I like the pork but it can be kind of salty. The beef is less salty. The gorditas (the 2 circles) are delicious and the chimichangas (cut into 3) are also pretty good, and both are less than $8 but more than enough food.

I’ve been going here for 15 years and they are extremely tasty and consistent. It’s fantastic, parking can be odd but I’ve been lucky. Probably visited 100 times but I love their burritos and their tacos!

Food is good and prices are very reasonable. The only thing I dislike was the food came cold. I highly recommend to tell your server to make sure it's hot.

Came for a asada burrito and 4 tacos de asada combo/drink. Prices posted up in person were different from online. Service to go was quick though and the food i ordered was good. The tacos were flavorful while the burrito less so. Decent experience overall.

Good selection of dishes, portions are not stingy at all, and prices are still appropriate. The carne asada could have been more browned to my taste but I still enjoyed the food. I also liked that the plate came with not just rice and beans but also salad, some guacamole, onion, limes, chips and salsa, felt like a balanced and complete meal. Service was friendly too, I'll come back at some point.

This place is very nice. Walk up window and a shaded seating area with tables and wicker seats. The service is prompt and the food comes out fast, hot, and flavorful. Very generous for feeding to adult men for $25! Eight tacos and two drinks with plenty of chips.

This place won me over because they are wheelchair accessible. I normally stay away from small taco shops because they don't have a lot of room for wheelchairs. Now for the food. I had a carne asada torta (like a Mexican sandwich) and my mom ordered the chile relleno. She said she really liked it it was flavorful and not spicy at all. My torta was good. The asada could have been a slightly more season but i didn't mind it. They give you chips and salsa while your waiting for your food and the salsa isn't spicy at all. Again I appreciate it because my mom has some dietary issues and she was able to eat it. The lady at the window taking our order was super nice and helpful.

This place made me wish Yelp allowed fractional reviews because I'd rate this a little above a 3 if I could. The place is nice for what it is, offers indoor or outdoor seating, the person that took my order was friendly, tables were clean. The burrito was good, I think it could've used a bigger serving of meat and cheese as opposed to being stuffed with rice and beans but besides that the tortilla was really good quality, and the sauce was super flavorful.

Bang for the buck!!! This place has not ever let me down for several years. Fish taco is big and good. Is this place the best ever....no but for the price Yes $27.84 for chile verde plate, 2 large chicken tacos and 1 fish taco with taxes. The only bad thing is the parking. Great service and all the food I tried, I have enjoyed.

First time coming here and I'm pleasantly surprised! I usually love a tooooon of lime, but forgot to ask for it. HOWEVER, the al pastor is so so so flavorful! I saw some middle line reviews and was prepared for that, but my experience is higher. I recommend their burrito, specifically al pastor. The shredded beef quesadilla probably benefits from one of their sauces, but I like their shredded beef and I love their choice of cheese. Tastes like an authentic Oaxacan cheese to me.

El Tapatio is your middle of the road Mexican food. Nothing spectacular about it. I ordered asada tacos on my last visit. The tacos weren't great, but not bad, either. The portions are definitely on the lighter side but the prices are really cheap. This place has plenty of options on their menu. Restaurant menu items without restaurant high prices. They even have seafood and chili Colorado. Parking can be a headache, with only a couple spaces in the back alley. It's on a busy street so even street parking gets difficult. There is a little patio area with a couple tables in front. The owners/employees were friendly. If in the area, El Tapatio is worth a try.

The Best Authentic Mexican Restaurant in Burbank and Glendale Hands Down. No Thrills, Just Great Food at a Great Price for today's horrible economy.

Good food, good service, and very friendly people. Highly recommend. The prices are reasonable also.

The taco pescado and taco camaron were delish. Fresh and generous portions. The asada fries were alright. They got the job done. The taco al pastor was not so great. Lots of other great al pastor spots in LA. The service was a tad bit slow. Be prepared to wait 30 min for your food, more if there is a line. Love to support this mom and pop spot in Burbank. Will call in our order ahead and stick to the seafood options.

I'll say it again. I love this little place. I don't know if it is because I just happened upon it late night and they came thru with delicious burritos or what.. Every time i drive through LA (as quickly as I can) I stop in Burbank at this little taco shop. The Carnitas and the Al Pastor here has nice crisp edges and quite delicious. The prices here are awesome too. I paid like $8.50 for 2 tacos and a burrito.

I've gotten takeout here sometimes and the quality of their food seems to have really improved! They definitely deserve an updated review from me! Last night my boyfriend and I ordered takeout and they got the order correct When we got the food home I noticed how the fish tacos looked much nicer than the ones I have gotten from them in the past. The portions of chips and guacamole seemed bigger, which was a very nice surprise! The fish tasted great, the guacamole was fresh and chunky, the beans were very yummy, and the chips were fresh and delicious too! My boyfriend enjoyed the chips and also his burrito. I also did not get itchy either, like I do when I consume gluten, so they must be doing a great job in the kitchen keeping the flour tortillas separate from the corn tortillas! We are so glad that we came back because this place is really conveniently located on the corner of Alameda and San Fernando, so it is easy to pick up food to bring home. Although I really enjoy Don Cucos Mexican Food as well, I think we will be coming back here much more often now because this food here is awesome now! Thank you so much for putting together a wonderful meal for us last night! We will be back again soon! :)

Ordered three tacos one asada, Carnitas, al pastor. The beef taco was tough but had a pleasant lime flavor. Al Pastore taco was even more tough the flavor was not authentic to what al pastor should taste like. The Carnitas however was good the salsa would be considered spicy to some but to me it was medium spicy because I like hot and the flavor was good I paid $6.75 for three tacos and can of soda price point is good. Didn't give five stars because of the meat toughness and they did not have radishes as tacos should always come with. Also the order came with chips and lemon, however not lime, which tacos should be accompanied with. I would recommend it for the price point.

I ordered four tacos, and they were delicious! Really flavorful alongside the chips and salsa. Great spot to grab food from.

Everyone has to have a local taqueria - I think it's a law in Burbank. This place has always delivered on a solid option for tacos, enchiladas, burritos and such in the neighborhood. Lotsa menu options, but we go here mostly for tacos + burritos. The big highlight here is the value - your dollar is going to stretch in ways here that would make your yoga class jealous. Is it super clean? Clean enough. Is there ample patio seating? There's a handful of tables, and the entertainment is fun to watch (watch the BMW Dudes show off on the San Fernando/Alameda intersection). Does the homemade salsa make me sweat? Sometimes. My personal fav is the al pastor burrito, but minus the beans. The flavor's pretty spot on with just enough heat. And it's family-owned and made with love - can't go wrong with that. Next time you're in the neighborhood, make this a stop.

I would say that this place is a solid B. The food is fine, the service is good, and they're not crazy expensive. Not much to complain about really, but also not much to rave about. I'd come back, but it wouldn't be my top choice! I got the chicken quesadilla and my boyfriend got the 3 taco plate with 1 of each type of meat. Everything was okay, but it just didn't blow us away.

It's all right. It's kinda run down and the dishes are basic, but the people are really sweet and the price is right. Make sure you check your bag before you leave. This time I got the shrimp burrito and the shrimp was not overcooked (yay!). Not a ton of flavor, though and they forgot the sauce and limes I requested. That was annoying. I'll probably go back again...

We stayed in Burbank CA this month of November 2023. Looked for a place to have breakfast. Found El Tapatio. Menu looked good. Wanted something good in the morning. Ordered a menudo and chicken tacos. Menudo was great. Good flavor. Home made tortillas. Tacos were very good too with their green salsa. Other items on the menu looked very good. I do recommend this place. Next time we go back, we know where to go not just breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Nice family owned business. The chicken nachos with green salsa are my favorite. I come here a couple times a month.

I might be really unfortunate, but I got a nice bit of food poisoning eating here. It's sad, because the food is pretty good, but watery diarrhea for 3 days is not good. It's bad. No one wants that. Now the thought of an al pastor burrito makes me want to involuntarily purge my intestines. And I'm sad :( RIP my stomach. RIP El Tapatío

I used to come here a lot when I lived closer, their food is tasty and inexpensive. The service is really good here too. The quesadillas are really delicious and I love the stuffed gorditas they make.

Beautiful burrito with all the ingredients but no sour cream ! Just bland with no salt in any of the ingredients (meat, rice,beans,or fries. The green salsa is flavorless even with salt added! So sad that it didn't have a taste to it !

If you know me at all you will know for sure that I love Mexican food! I had a lunch meeting in Burbank and was craving Mexican food BAD!! I almost didn't visit this place because it averaged 3 stars.. However I was desperate lol.. I can honestly say that I'm glad I was because the have the best mojarra frita!! Omg best flavor ever!! My friend had the fajita plate and was in love with it! I gave 4 stars because the street tacos weren't that great I actually ended up Giving them away.. The customer service was great #HoOkedOnOnyxx

Great authentic Mexican food. I love this place. Reasonable prices, fast and friendly service. Always go there when I get a chance. Dine in or take out.

I came here with my bf to have lunch one day and he found a hair in his food. The people working denied that it was their staff and offered to redo the order but by that time he was soo grossed out that he just didn't want to eat anymore, judging by the gentleman down in the comments who found a hair in his salsa I would say it's a common problem and the people here are careless... CHECK YOUR FOOD THOROUGHLY!

I found this place online, you know how the food is gonna be legit by the 'look' of the menu. Was not disappointed. I got their vegetarian burrito (minus the dairy) and damnn son! That was fresh, fresh. And the avocado, could have smothered my face with it being so creamy. Was also happy they sell Mexican Coke (real sugar vs that other stuff).

I wasn't expecting much, and my expectations were met. The only thing going for this place is that it is inexpensive. How can it possibly take that long to prepare a single torta at 11 AM with no other customers? Outdoor seating comes with traffic noise, carbon monoxide poisoning and the constant beep-du, beep-du, beep-du of pedestrians repeatedly pressing the crosswalk buttons desperate for another dose of dopamine. I will not be coming back.

I have been here a few times and have never been dissapointed. But I have only tried a few things. I always seem to gravitate towards the Carne asada fries! UGH! They are so good! And for $6 you get enough to share (But I never share). Red salsa is just my speed as well... not too spicy but still with a little kick! I've tried their al pastor tacos and they are yummy as well! I would like to try a burrito and a torta sometime in the near furture! I saw someone order them and they looked delicious! They have great customer service!! The staff is so friendly and very helpful! I always leave with a good feelings.

***GREAT prices, AUTHENTIC Mexican cuisine, FRIENDLY service!*** It's not fancy or has fabulous contemporary décor -- it's more on the traditional Mexican, casual look -- but the food is delicious! We shared their crunchy rolled tacos stuffed with beef as an appetizer, not knowing the entrée servings are designed by grandmas who wanna fatten their grandkids! Later came 2 entrées of beef chimichangas that were slightly crunchy outside with a side of rice and beans -- JUST AMAZING! I couldn't have the whole thing, and had them give me a doggy bag. If you pay with a credit or debt card: they do accept them, but they don't have a tip section. So bring CASH for the tip. They're so kind and decent that they said to forget it, since we didn't have any cash. Man, I'll come here if I ever want to have Mexican, because not only the food is great but the staff are good people. Of course, we went across the street to Walgreens and got the much deserved cash. And not just food and service, but price! I don't have my original bill, but I went in the day after to eat there again (hehe!) and I kept our 2nd receipt: The bill: 1 beef chimichangas entrée 1 rolled crispy beef tacos entrée (with 3 tacos) 2 sodas + tax ________________________________________ = $14.97 plus tip. I KNOW!!! The very kind lady who took care of us the 2nd time, actually brought us a very yummy homemade flan as dessert, on the house. I like the vibe in that place. It's not just the fact they brought something for free. It's the intention of pleasing the customer behind it. It felt like I had a Mexican aunt who was spoiling me rotten. :-) There's parking in the rear of the building and they have even cheaper lunch specials.

This place served me the worst seafood burrito, it had the entire heel of an onion in the burrito. The guy in the kitchen didn't care, awful. I won't be back. I threw half of the damned thing away.

We went here early on a Friday night. For years I'd always driven by and wondered what it was like to eat here. Here's a list of what we experienced: 1) The staff was completely dismissive to us. 2) We ordered three things. They got two of them correct. 3) We chose to eat on the patio because inside was ridiculously hot. 4) We were attacked by many flies on the patio because it was super dirty (cigarette butts in the planters, trash on the floor, etc). Based on the above, I will not be returning. I might find forgiveness if the food was exceptional, but it's not. Very sup-par. Chicken was bland, and the burritos (what they got wrong) were unexceptional.

I can't believe this spot has so many 5-star ratings. The only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is because it's relatively cheap. The bad thing is so is their food. The only two times I've had food from here is when my coworker offered to pay. This is not somewhere I'd go pay to eat put it that way. I've had a burrito de carne asada and a bacon breakfast burrito. (Not at the same time, I'm fat but not fat fat). The first one was bland and flavorless. The latter had gray eggs and one slice of soggy bacon. If you do decide to eat here it's better to call in your order. They take a long time to make your food. Once you do get it make sure they got it right. Lastly, don't expect much flavor and be glad it didn't cost much to eat here. Thank you, next.

Shrimp Burrito with Tortilla Chips ($6.50) - Quietly, I've been on the hunt for a really good shrimp burrito of which the criteria was still unbeknownst to me. It was safe to say this wasn't it. The meal did its job as it absorbed and filled me up. But the shrimp was lacking (btw...I preferred the shrimp to be chopped versus whole so I had some in every bite), there was way too much beans and rice (honestly...I've gotten tired with these fillers in my burritos; where's the beef, or poultry, or seafood!?), and the flour tortilla was chewy (I preferred corn tortillas but didn't request it). It was a "one-hander", and when served on a plate I liked things WET! Lastly, I really wanted an assortment of hot sauces (one container was given for the chips, I believed) or salsas but didn't see any. If I needed another post-drinking meal in the area I'd find my way to such standbys as Tommy's or Yoshinoya further down San Fernando Rd. close to McCambridge Park. Sure, the tacos were good, and I was intrigued by a picture of carne asada fries, but if fries got me excited about a Mexican restaurant there was something wrong! I found good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $10.00 BEFORE tip). I love Tapa, it is after all my favorite place to get a burrito. Now I remember a time when Tapa wasn't very good. They'd run out of guac or there would be bones in your burrito, but then, THEN, something magical happened. The carnitas were always perfectly crunchy with the right amount of spice and the pastor was oh so flavorful. And it's been a dirty love affair since then. I tell everyone about Tapatio and go about once a week. It is, literally a hole in the wall--you order and pick up your food from a hole a wall. It is dirty, greasy, cheap and delicious--and it's everything I look for in my Mexican food. It's not a very big place, like these overrated taco trucks, except that Tapa, so laden with gigantic burritos saw little reason to move and declared "Ugh, I can't move, why should I move anyway? F*** it, I'll have a burrito!" It is a fantastic place. It's got this charm where the prices tend to fluctuate wildly but never seem to be more than $6, the burritos clock in always over a pound (and yes, this is the major use of the postage scale in my office), and just yesterday I got into a fight with the guy because I was leaving a tip. I love it. I am heartbroken they won't sell me one of their new t-shirts, but maybe like an ambivalent lover, I'll break her and I'll soon sport a spiffy red Tapa tee all my own after a future visit. Some actual reading, I recommend the carnitas and the pastor and occasionally get the machaca if I'm looking for something 'lighter.' Burritos really do weigh more than a pound (the biggest so far, 1lb. 9oz.) with prices starting at $4.50 and add a buck or so for guac y crema (again, prices tend to fluctuate depending on who rings you up). There also happens to be a Mexican place right behind it, I like Tapa more--I think the food is better and tends to be cheaper and the only advantage to the other place seems to be that they serve beer. Parking kind of sucks, but worst case I suggest parking over in the lot across San Fernando and walking if you need to. There is actually a dine in area and they take cards (Visa and Mastercard) contrary to what Yelp believes.

Trust me on this .. not only super super affordable .. seriously $6.50 for a Caldo De Res .. $5.50 for a bowl of Menudo Whatever you have this is one thing for certain .. the food will remind you of home and takes you back to your moms homemade Mexican food Highly recommended !

Best food evaaaaar! Can't ever find a spot lile this. My favorite torta de carnitas. I love love love their friendliness amd food so much. Makes me feel like I am part of their family.

First things first.. I have been coming here for yearsss in the past but it has actually been awhile since my last visit and let me tell you.. the customer service was always excellent! I was unable to get our cashier's name but she was very friendly, attentive and helpful. She answered all my questions (regarding the ingredients) very well and also explained that *at the moment* their avocados are not ripe yet so they were unable to include guacamole for some dishes, which has actually been happening everywhere!! My husband is super clumsy and accidentally dropped his drink but the girl was nice enough to clean it all up and give us another one :D We got our food which was a Carne Asada Burrito, Chimichangas Plate, Chicken Quesadillas, and French Fries. My husband said his Carne Asada Burrito was dry and didn't have any moisture in it at all. I graded my chimichangas a B- because it also didn't have as much moisture in it at all either and the flavors just didn't mesh well together in my opinion. Maybe I should've stuck to my usual, the enchiladas plate but oh well. My daughter ate a couple pieces of the Chicken Quesadillas but of course, she favored the French Fries more. Oh and the horchata wasn't as sweet as I thought it used to be!! Hopefully it won't be too bad next time.

I just happened to be working in the area and wanted Mexican food. I got four asada tacos with an agua de jamaica. The salsa was amazing and so were the tortillas. I'm definitely coming back...the food was AMAZING, what a hidden little gem!

I have given this place 5 chances, today was the worst, I've ordered the chimiganga which is supposed to be somewhat crunchy, well first they took forever to make it, then I get it and it was wet, saugy due to the fact they give the Pico de Gallo served next to it, what a mistake...people. anyways the chicken has no flavor! Parking socks toi!

Placed my order for a shrimp cocktail by phone for pick up. I get there and even though I said shrimp cocktail 3 times to the woman over the phone, what was made was a taco. I waited an extra 10 minutes for the "shrimp" cocktail.....to only have NO shrimp in the cocktail at all. Not one shrimp. The jamaica is bland as well. Not coming back.

after all these years, this place fails to disappoint. Brought our out-of-town guests here and they said this was the "best Mexican food" they have ever had, and continued to place 2 more orders in. funny enough- they said the only mexican food they ever had was taco bell. Their first order was the carne asada quesadilla ( this was the first time i had it as well)- it was so good...i usually opt for the carne asada tacos - which are amazing! We ended up having 2 carne asada tortas- which i highly recommend... you will not be disappointed.

So if you don't like folks ordering when you're close to closing then change your hours or put up a sign that you don't want any more business after a certain time. Complaining about it and insulting a customer in Spanish is not cool. A lot of people who don't look Spanish can still understand it. I should clarify that the lady that took my order was nice, the guy packing the food was not happy. I really hope he didn't spit in my soup.

May be 2.5 stars. This corner shack serves takeout from a sliding window. There is some shaded seating (plastic table and chairs) with auto sales magazine for company. No one was eating when I turned up ~2pm. May be everyone was inside the run-down looking eat-in area. I didn't go in to find out. I ordered the carnitas plate - with flour tortillas. It was ok. The pork was chunky and plentiful. I ate it all, but I'm just not feeling this hole in the wall joint. May be I was in the mood for Chipotle (McDonald's) carnitas and the clean and funky environment. But for $8 with a drink I guess there are no complaints.

It's funny how you pass the same locations for years but never stop for various reasons. This is one hole in the wall I wish I would not have slept on. First time visiting. Ordered carry out. Had the carne asada nachos. My honey had the carne asada fries. Was DELISH!! Had just the right amount of toppings while avoiding the soggy factor. Would definitely return.

Quick recommendation: I haven't had a bad dish, but I would certainly recommend the nachos and chilaquiles. Everything comes in medium-large portions. Now for the nitty-gritty... This is a really solid hole-in-the-wall kind of place with great traditional Mexican restaurant fare. They have an adorable patio area (that makes the most of what view is there, namely a gas station and shopping centers, with the Hollywood Hills barely noticeable behind), and the food is always better than I remember, which isn't bad at all considering that I keep coming back! I fully intend to maintain my status as a regular. ;)

The quality of the food varies from visit to visit. Usually it is good but I wish it was consistent. When they nail it, YUM! The service is not so great with the woman at the order taking window but occasionally you get the owner who is really kind and helpful with suggestions. I still recommend this place because the food is always good and occasionally it's excellent! Never bad.
