Very bad service. First thing, got a different room location, mine was supposed to be near the pool when I reserved online but instead got one with a downtown view, I don't complain about that cause actually the view was better but should have informed me its was a different one. House keeping never came to the room during our stay. We had to call them to get clean towels, trash picked up and toilet paper (never seen that before). We did see the lady cleaning some rooms down the hall so I don't know if we did something wrong. That was very frustrating. the bathroom had a bad smell. And staff is not very friendly they almost seem sarcastic when you give them a complaint. Parking is $20 a day. First and last time I stay at this hotel.

The front staff was great during my stay. Quentin (?) was very nice and pleasant during my check-in. I think the hotel suffers with the attitude of other staff members. The person who was working at the Express Cafe shop they had in the lobby had THE worst attitude. She was on her phone when I was trying to buy items and seemed to not want to be at work. That immediately gave me a different vibe to the hotel. The cleaning staff could do better in cleaning the room, as I didn’t feel it was really clean throughout my stay. Overall, I think the hotel is good but would benefit deeply from a more attentive cleaning staff.

Our stay was 07/27-07/29/2018, it was a last minute reservation and we were very lucky to have been able to book a room. The hotel was busy, but clean and nice. We never heard other guests like in other hotels. Everyone was very nice, courteous and helpful. The evening Manager Michael was very nice and went out of his way to make sure our stay was wonderful. Housekeeping was up to par, our room was small, but clean and comfortable. Anything we asked of the hotel staff we received. The drinks in the bar were reasonably priced and the Tiki Punch was fabulous! The breakfast buffet was also very good, the wait staff was very attentive. We have stayed here many, many times for a variety of reason and we are always pleased. While the hotel might be old and dated, the staff is always very nice, friendly and on the ball. We will stay again, soon!

The hotel stay was excellent! The lobby was absolutely gorgeous and all the staff super attentive. Very clean and neat room. I came to visit a friend who was buried in San Antonio 5 years ago. Not exactly a thrilling vacation. So the really nice room and nice people was a plus. But after a 3 hour drive home i realized i left my most valuable jewelry in the room. It took a few phone calls but the staff had my items and were happy to help. I was crying so hard. Thank you so much El Tropicano. Would recommended again and again!!

The hotel was nice enough. Wish I knew parking was $20 a night before we booked. Also, our carpet was wet when we arrived. The person checking me in did not explain anything and when I checked my bank account there was a hold on it. I guess this is normal, it would have just been nice to know what they were doing. People in the hotel made it a horrible experience. From the couple a few rooms down yelling at the top of their lungs, to the people smoking at the non-smoking pool area. I was happy when we weren't near this place. In the past we have had a much better experience at the Holiday Inn by Sea World. Next time we will just go back there.

My spouse and I wanted to get away for the weekend so we decided to come to San Antonio. He looked and the rooms and came across El Tropicana and based on the photos and reviews he booked the location. I will say the hotel is in a great location; on the river walk and close to great restaurants. When we entered the lobby it looked nice but it was hot/humid;but in my mind I was thinking the room will probably look just as nice. Once we received the room keys we went to the elevator and it’s is so small you can only fit 6 people. It would work for someone that’s claustrophobic. But I kept an optimistic mind. When we reached our floor it literally looks like it could be a roach infested motel. The carpets are disgusting, and there are stains in specific areas. When we got to our room there was stains on the carpet; the bathroom is small and the tub looks nasty. The left side of the bed had a huge dent in it; it is obvious it was time for a renovation. The A/C unit also makes this weird sound and would make it difficult to get a good nights rest. The sheets feels like sand paper. We went to the balcony you could see the the cracks in the painted brick with rusted stains. When I asked a lady for an extra towel she stated she didn’t have any so if you stay here you may want to bring your own. It was too late to change our minds because there’s NO REFUNDS. So we tried to make the best of the situation and decided to go to the pool. The pool looks just like the picture but it looks as if it’s 60 years later. You can see parts of the ground peeling. We decided to get a drink at the bar to to help with our frustration;specifically the bar by the pool. There was bees everywhere(I can’t stand them) plus my margarita tasted as if it was a virgin daiquiri. Based on my experience I’d come back to San Antonio to eat but I’d never stay at this hotel again.

Way better than I was expecting! At first glance, the hotel looks a little dated. At the front desk, the service was fantastic. Upon entering the room, I was pleasantly surprised that the decor was modern and the room was very clean. Although this hotel is not right in the thick of things, it is on the river walk. It's about a half mile walk to where the action is happening, but it's a very pleasant and relaxing walk. For all the positives, there are a few downfalls. All the ice machines were broken, so I had to call for ice or go down and get it from the bar. The elevators could for sure use some upkeep, and there wasn't a hot tub. All in all, if I visit San Antonio again, I would absolutely stay here.

Not a bad stay, a little bit away from the main attractions at the Riverwalk. The hotel lobby was very modern and bright, the elevator and the lodging floors were somewhat dated. Hotel staff were very nice and helpful. An additional $20 for parking on top of the room fee felt a little steep considering it was not located as close to the attractions as some of the other properties. For what it ended up costing I could have stayed at a 4 star.
