"Inside La Isla Shopping Village in Cancún’s Hotel Zone, this sensual dinner spot occupies a beautifully lit tropical garden overlooking the lagoon. Over the years, it has become one of the city’s most renowned dining rooms, thanks to its dreamy atmosphere—dozens of semi-private tables beneath palapa-roofed cabanas—and Southeast Asia–inspired cuisine. Menu options include spicy pha de Phuket (deep-fried fish in tamarind chili sauce) and lamb chops with chili-mint sauce, as well as several vegetarian dishes. For the most romantic experience, book a sunset table next to the lagoon."

Saw this while walking around this high-end mall. There were several waterfront restaurants, Mexican, Japanese, and Thai/Indian. I chose Elefanthai, what an amazing restaurant. I don't even know where to start the place is phenomenal. It's like you're eating in a village in Thailand. I give kudos to the person/ team that actually put this establishment together well thought out. Over the water table bungalows, speechless views. Now, to the food, this was a clash between thai and Indian culture. The fusion of taste and collaboration left me wanting more. My motto still stands. In order to give a rating, I have to order at least five dishes. All were top-notch. After eating Indian food, my stomach is a little disturbed, nothing yet as I'm writing this review. I highly recommend this establishment, If you are within 30 minutes of this place you need to make a reservation. Reservations are strongly encouraged. This is one of those places after visiting who will bragging rights! *****

Google
Very nice food, fairly limited menu but all made fresh so that makes perfect sense. Some tables in the garden, think rain Forrest setting, very lush with subtle lighting, some tables on small platforms built on legs over the water with lovely views of the bay, and sunset. 1 main, 1 garlic naan and 1 beer $MX600. Worth making a reservation.

Google
We celebrated my son's birthday here. They helped us reserve a table at the lagoon area (limited tables available in lagoon) We ordered Indian food and it was delicious, service was quick, the ambience was amazing facing the ocean, the cool breeze, candle light dinner. A lovely family get together. They brought in a cake and sang happy birthday. My son was surprised and loved the entire dinning experience.

Google
Great experience. Very peaceful and serene setting. If you want to sit out on the lagoon water, you must make reservations either at the 5:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. slot. If you want to see the sunset, the 5:00 p.m. slot is the only option. Even when you make the reservations, it is kind of first come first serve to see if you get to sit out on the lagoon. Overall service is really good The food is really good. I really like the Indian chutneys, the Indian chicken cooked in a tandoori oven was excellent. Thai food is also good and Indian chicken curry was good. I read a lot of reviews about mosquitoes and bugs but when we went in January, there were none. So I guess it just depends what time of the year. I'll definitely come back here again. The only negative I noticed is that when they give you the bill, they try to push the different percentage tips on you to make a payment and decision right then and there. They don't have to do that.

Google
We visited ElefanThai at La Isla to try their Indian food, and it was an outstanding experience! The ambiance was truly out of this world, creating a unique and immersive atmosphere. The service was first-class, with friendly and attentive staff who made us feel welcome. One thoughtful touch was providing bug spray, which was really helpful given the lush, forest-like setting. Overall, an amazing dining experience—highly recommended!

Google
The concierge at our hotel recommended it and my husband and I really enjoyed it. Our table was in a private hut over the water and we got a rain storm while we were dining, which added some magic to the experience. The sunset view was gorgeous

Google
Visited this place while on vacation last night, and overall it was a memorable experience. The aesthetic and atmosphere were absolutely lovely ,peaceful, relaxing, and charming, especially at night. We arrived about an hour before closing, so it was dark and nearly empty, which added to the calm vibe. They seated us all the way in the back, likely to give us the full over the water dining experience. While it was beautiful, it was also a little unnerving. We spotted a few crocodiles or alligators nearby, which made us a bit uneasy! The food, however, totally impressed us. Everything was full of flavor, and the portions were generous,I couldn’t even finish mine! Definitely a place I’d come back to, especially for the food.

Google
Incredible seating and views. Try and reserve a water-side table. They have a mix of Indian and Thai food — I love their Thai food and can confirm it’s top notch. Need to try their Indian food. Drinks are fantastic as well. It’s never been very busy when I went so the social vibe has been limited but it’s like being in a jungle, so I can imagine that when it’s food it’s incredible.

Christopher H.

Yelp
The ambiance and atmosphere was very unique! It was outside but felt liike we were in the jungle. The waitstaff was very attentive. We had butter chicken and vindaloo, both meals were delicious. This is a must experience!!

Hemant D.

Yelp
Had diner there Overall it was an average to below average experience We were seated in a quite area but asked for lagoon booth and did not get it even though they seemed available The Aloo Naan was tasty. The Subz tawa looked very different in reality vs the picture and tasted just about OK The Naan was ok Server was nice and efficient Nothing to write home about

Yelp
The food was very good and the ambiance is amazing. I sat overlooking the lagoon in the early evening watching the boats go by. I had a tom kha gai soup which was excellent. I was a little disappointed with the menu - I felt it was too exotic and not enough of the dishes had vegetables. None of my favorite Indian (veggie korma) or Thai dishes (Panang or red curry) were on the menu. Otherwise, I enjoyed the experience and would recommend it.

Saurabh L.

Yelp
Great food. Great ambiance. Great service. Loved everything. A must go to place in Cancun.

Yelp
Tandoori Murgh Tikka: 10/10 Chicken Biryqni Rice: 10/10 Garlic Naan: 10/10 Saved the best food in Cancun for last. Elefanthai was amazing! From decor and aesthetic, service, and food, it was 10s across the board for me! It's in a beautiful location with the tables overlooking the water. The decor is vibrant and eye catching but goes together very well. Their menu is a mix of thai and indian food with various gluten free, vegetarian, and spice level options as well. The food was delicious. I started with the Tandoori and OMG it was mouth watering honestly. The chicken was tender and flavorful without being overwhelming. I single handed my finished the entire appetizer My entree was the chicken biryani rice with naan which was served in the cutest little pot. The portion was perfect and again, delicious. If you're in cancun and want to branch away from Mexican food, this is a MUST TRY!!

Yelp
Don't let people judge you for wanting Thai in Mexico--this is a must go! To begin with, the scenery of this restaurant is absolutely amazing. Located on the water with plenty of large group seating you're sat at what feels like almost a private section directly on the water. We went at night and the views were nice so I can only imagine how stunning it'd look during sunset. The menu is super extensive and very accommodating to all types of preferences. There's plenty of gluten free and vegan options on the menu. The menu also has a little flag showing where each food is from. I ordered the chicken satay to start with which was so delicious. The dipping sauces it came with added a sweetness to the flavor. For my entree I ordered the Prawns Kasundi and coconut naan bread because I love all things coconut. If you're a fan of Panaang curry I'd suggest getting this because it's the same vibe but a litttleeee less sweet. It tasted delicious with the complimentary rice and even better with the naan bread. This place is also one of the cheaper options we visited. I was able to order an entree and an appetizer for about $57 which is a steal considering the other places we visited during our trip. I would definitely suggest checking this place out!

Christopher H.

Yelp
Incredibly unique atmosphere. Totally outside on the water and felt like it was in a rainforest. Service was exceptional and attentive. The entrees were very delicious. A must try!!

Yelp
Despite making it abundantly clear that I had a tree nut allergy, and triple checking when the food came out, they still served me cashews. My reaction was so bad that we almost had to use the EpiPen. Again, the reaction was only this bad because I took multiple bites of the food I was allergic to - since they assured me that it was nut free. Over the next few hours, I needed a steroid injection just to get the fever and hives down and thankfully didn't have to go to the emergency room. The food is tasty but absolutely not worth the risk, so please steer clear if you have food allergies.

Yelp
Everything about the experience at this restaurant was great! Service was a clear winner. The staff knew about the dishes, had friendly conversations and were extremely efficient. The most amazing surprise was the cake they bought at the end of the meal to celebrate a birthday, which totally blew our mind. This is real customer service. Thank you to the Elefanta team for making the evening so special. The food was delicious - whether it be Indian or Thai. We tried a lil bit of both and both were equally amazing. I loved the biryani! Do try the aachar - it was different and unique (not the traditional Indian aachar). They do not carry local beers but have all the imported options. A good selection of wine and liquors. Located inside the mall and has a very unique decor with individual cabin-like seating options, which is very private. Pricing : Being in the hotel zone and a fine dining restaurant, it is expensive. But totally worth the money you spend. Both food and service was top notch. Will I return? : Absolutely!

Nadira C.

Yelp
Amazing food and great ambiance. If you like Thai or Indian cuisine, then this place is definitely worth a visit. You won't regret it. The only downside is that the portions are a little small.
google avatar

Darryl K.

Yelp
First of the setting and ambience is rather unique and elegant. You immediately feel like you somewhere special. The place is exceptionally well executed. Really felt like a treat. All the food we tried was good. Tasty and fresh. Portions are on the smaller side, but that's okay, as many things are taster type portions. Careful when ordering water. They offer 3 types. If you don't specify, they pick the most expensive for you. The service was attentive and quick. Overall an amazing experience. We will defiantly return. We visited as a family with adult children, but the setting is super romantic.

Yelp
An adventurous dining experience, the entire restaurant is near water and surrounded by greenery. We went at night and loved how the place was lit. Our servers (plural) were on top of everything. Refilling our drinks in a timely manner and making great recommendations for dinner. The food hit the spot! A bit pricer than expected but overall a great experience.
google avatar

Christopher Patrick H.

Yelp
Other than not having air conditioning, the food & service is damn good. They have been in business since we bought our time share at the Westin Lagunamar in 2014 so that's 10 years at least!
google avatar

Yelp
Hard to believe one of the best restaurants in Cancún is steps away from this place. Horrible food and if you think otherwise, you've never been, not once, to Thailand. Authentic names for dishes but tasteless garbage would best describe this food and grossly overpriced. While the setting is simply beautiful the food quality and wine list are just plain crap. But you can expect to pay much for a business class fare to Bangkok for what they charge. Oh and Indian food coupled with Thai....well, they both are spicy and use curries but otherwise....NOT. I'd suggest not even grabbing a cocktail here because even that is lacking in quality and imagination. Definitely on my NEVER GOING BACK LIST and a big laugh at those who do. My 2 pesos Greg T.

Yelp
Wow what an amazing experince! This place is absolutely gorgeous and so unique. We went for dinner but I would love to check it out again during the day because it might be a different type of beauty during day. The service I've was excellent. Monica and Angel were very attentive, friendly and professional. And the food was spectacular. Having Thai and Indian food at the same place is very interesting and allowed us to have a variety of dishes and drinks. Definitely would go back! And definitely recommend.

Joel K.

Yelp
While we were sitting at the pool at our hotel, a couple recommended Elefanthai. We were able to get a hut/table on the Laguna side. The food was absolutely fantastic. We had Chicken Biryani Rice, the #66 (Kai Phat Naam Pik Phani - deep-fried chicken in a sweet chili paste with cashews) and the #41 (Atishi Kofta - Creamy Paneer Dumplings). We also had a passion fruit drink and garlic naan. We had a beautiful view of the lagoon in a very private setting. This was by far the best meal we have had in Cancun.

L P.

Yelp
This place was incredible! Everything about this place was a vibe. From the entry way, to the drinks, all the way to the seating. Incredible. We made reservations for a bungalow over the lagoon, and I would definitely recommend doing that if you can. We had spring rolls which were nice, hot, and crispy. Not overly oily like many places make them. The Tom Kha was the best I've ever had. Seemed pretty simple with mushrooms and chicken, but it was creamy and delicious. My picky daughter and husband both ordered the tika masala, and they were able to bring the spice down for my daughter's which was great. My son ordered the dumpling dish. It wasn't bad at all, but it just wasn't something he liked more than everything else on the table. The desserts were perfection. The gulab juman was warm and sweet and paired perfectly with the ice cream. My kids shared the mango sticky rice and were surprised but really pleased by the slight saltiness in the cream. Take pictures and eat everything. If you're going to go all out for a dinner on your vacation, this is a great option.

Yelp
We didn't expect much at first with both Thai and Indian being served but the food was so good and yummy. On top of it, the ambience was top notch! The cocktail we had were also quite good. The Briyani was so fresh and flavorful. The sabz tawa veg curry was too good. Tired of the usual tomato based curry, their tawa masala was truly delicious. Highly recommend this dish! If you go there try to get the private hut seating. We truly had an amazing time there! If we visit Cancun again I'm definitely coming here again

Him M.

Yelp
Great food, service and ambience! Highly recommend it. It is premium experience at a reasonable price. We had 4 course meal for sitting right up to the water! Will do it again!

Yelp
Okay I wasn't planning on having Thai or Indian in Mexico...but I met a solo traveler back in Tulum who hitched a ride with me to Cancun...I also offered my 2nd bed to her because our flights left the next day...and we needed dinner! She was adamant about trying Elefanta which is a Thai AND Indian restaurant at the swanky La Isla Shopping Mall in Cancun. OMG I'm so glad I didn't convince my new friend to get Mexican. The views of the most perfect sunset sky was gorgeous from this place! That alone would give it 5 stars...but the food was also amazing! I had to have both cuisines. I had goat (Indian) and Thom Kha (Thai coconut soup). Delish!!! I tried my new friend's biriyani rice and I wished I'd ordered it! The Thai decor is like a replica of a beautiful village on the water. All the hut seating is amazing but they also have seating over water! We were so blessed to be there before sunset. If you've never been witnessed the gorgeous colors (pink, purple, gold) in a Cancun sunset then you haven't lived! We walked out to a dock at the restaurant took a few pics and soaked in the beautiful moment. This is why I love to travel...I meet new friends to have experiences with! This place is a must visit and I'll be back!

Yelp
Amazing service, wish we could have been placed on the water but it's our fault as we didn't reserve on time. Food was amazing. Great atmosphere.

Kamlesh S.

Yelp
Good Indian tasting food We loved their food and service pretty fast Very good location next to shopping also

Yelp
Great ambience, a must visit spot in the Hotel Zone. Authentic and well thought out menu.

Yelp
Was craving Indian food after struggling to find good vegetarian food around Cancun. The Ambience is great and food is decent but still good for Cancun. Would recommend to a vegetarian!
google avatar

Lakshmi B.

Yelp
If you know your way around Indian food, this place will disappoint. Biryani was subpar and came in a tiny portion. Dal was just ok. If you're into themed / distinct experiences, you may like the ambiance. Service is good. Would skip otherwise.

Yelp
I have visited restaurants all over the US (primarily Southern California), and others in India and UK. This restaurant is by far the best I have come across so far. The ambiance, decoration, service and most notably the food was cooked to perfection. Upon entering, we were greeted by the host who walked us to the table without any delay. Nice walk through the garden seating and we were given the table in a hut above the water. Everything here is exceptional and it's very clear that the owners did not leave anything to chance. This is definitely the best restaurant I have visited. I am a foodie, I look for hidden gems and this place beat all the restaurants by a long distance. Will definitely come back here whenever I am visiting Cancun again. Also, it was quite clear this place is frequented by affluent locals. Service- exceptional. Food- exceptional. Views- exceptional. Value for money- exceptional. Ease of getting a table- very easy. Decorations- very close attention to detail to all aspects. Very rarely you find a restaurant which excels in all these aspects and this place surpassed them all. Thank you for the awesome experience.

Sherley B.

Yelp
This restaurant did not disappoint. The service was great, as well as the view, and the food was delicious. I had the tikka masala and it left me satisfied. The dinner menu is a Thai and Indian cuisine. Highly recommend
google avatar

Dee B.

Yelp
The most beautiful hidden treasure I've ever seen in a restaurant. Not only was the ambiance amazing, so was the food! The staff were all friendly and kind, and make my sister feel special on her birthday. Will definitely be back if I ever visit Cancún La isla again!

Deepti P.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best food we ate while in Cancun. The chefs really know what they're doing. The food is amazingly flavorful and the drinks are absolutely delicious. The ambiance of this restaurant is absolutely amazing - totally private tables situated around the lagoon and right on the water as well, with amazing lighting and decor. We celebrated our anniversary here over the weekend and they gave us a beautiful table on the water that even had a sofa next to it. The service is always wonderful as well, we always eat here atleast once when we are in Cancun!! Must try!!
google avatar

Mukund N.

Yelp
This is a great place if you are in the mood for some Indian or Thai food in Mexico. The ambience is just great. There are a few tables right over the water body and you can catch a great glimpse of the sunset. It is highly recommended that you get an advance reservation and time it to watch the sunset from one of those nice tables. The servers were polite and the guy checked with the cook and steered us away from items that might have some cashew, as one of us is allergic to it. The food is very tasty. We ordered Angara Paneer and Indian-style Pizza for appetizers, Panner Singhara and Baby Mushroom Kadai with garlic naan for the main course and slices of mango with sticky rice for the dessert. All of them tasted very good. The price is slightly on the expensive side, especially if you include the 18-20% tip that they force you into. But if you want to have a good time, this is the place.
google avatar

Elanna R.

Yelp
The previous review stating this restaurant has closed is not correct. This restaurant still exists but has rebranded as Thai Cancun. Which actually makes the place even more amazing! You can choose either the Thai menu or the Indian or a mix and they help you make sure spice level is to your preference! The ambiance of the place is SO COOL. We sat in an elevated bungalow and ate the YUMMIEST Indian food! The appetizer of samosas was perfectly and full of flavor. Our server walked us through all the sauces and dips that came with our meals We got two paneer dishes to share that where amazing. Paneer Mahkani was silky and perfect. Tender paneer and fully of flavor and mild which my fiancé loved!! I got the paneer dish with mint and lentils and a sauce similar to Mahkani. It was AMAZING. Naan bread was light and perfect. The attention to flavors for all the dishes cannot be understated! We wish this place was in CT where we live but we will be back! That is a promise!
google avatar

Anuja S.

Yelp
I will give it 4.5 stars, Amazing location and ambience is great! We ordered daal, rice, vegetarian dim sum and it was just so good! The only thing which I found very discomforting is, it has lot of mosquitos and other insects. You might have sit inside and not on ocean front to have less of those. It is pricey ($$$) but good food! Try if you in Cancun!

Peter M.

Yelp
Oh my god great place super cool and the food was amazing! I have to go back and I recommend you do also
google avatar

Anushree J.

Yelp
The best and authentic Indian food I ever had outside India. What can be better than delicious juicy Tandoori Murgh Tikka and Paneer Angara appetizers with equally mouth watering Dal Makhani and Shaam Savera with the most beautiful Caribbean Sea view. I would be visiting Elefanta every time I visit Cancún. Very friendly staff and service was very prompt. This restaurant left the best impressions!

Leola J.

Yelp
I've visited this restaurant the last 2 times I've been to Cancun and I absolutely love love love this place! And my guests did too! The food was amazing. The ambiance is a breath of fresh air and the service is stellar. I've surprised 2 different friend groups with birthday dinners here and everyone has been blown away. If you're in the Cancun area, please stop in and check it out. You will be so glad you did!
google avatar

Santosh C.

Yelp
Don't let haters fool you - for a place as Cancun with little Indian presence, this is great food! Not NYC or Jersey City great, but definitely tasty! Ambience itself is worth the money. Definitely pricy, but worth the trip.
google avatar

Shifa A.

Yelp
Is seven stars a thing on Yelp? Because this place deserves it! We kind of stumbled upon this place. So if one is cancun and they are looking for great food, there's a plethora of great restaurants with awesome views and different cuisines! Plus who wants anything but authentic Mexican guacamole and chips? However after spending more than 72 hours enjoying chilaquiles and tacos, I was craving for good Indian or Thai food. After yelping we got just a few options within a 15 mile radius. Sasi Thai which was a part of our hotel, Elefanta and palvatri. Elefanta was a total surprise, it has the most gorgeous ambience, a great bar which is unique because there are actual dolphins swimming in this huge aquarium! Beautiful little huts over the bay which is probably the most romantic set up for a sunset. The menu has both Indian and Thai options and multiple vegetarian entrees. It's limited but trust me everything is amazing. The 2 nights we went there ( yes we went back !) we got the biryani, daal Makhani, tandoori chicken, goulati kebabs, chicken tikka masala, Thai fried rice, spring rolls and a bunch of margaritas. Everything was a 9/10!!! Bonus- we saw actual crocodiles while dining!
google avatar

Deepak W.

Yelp
Pay for the ambience and the atmosphere - it's totally worth it. The service is fantastic. The food is good, not great. pro tip: Reservations help secure the tables over the water. Walk-ins are not guaranteed the experience under the individual thatched roof.

A S.

Yelp
1. The restaurant was tricky to find! perhaps due to the closures for mall construction. The signage in the La Isla mall for this place is wrong/confusing!. 2. Make sure you are wearing mosquito repellent! Ankles got chewed up! 3. The ambience is dimly lit romantic vibe. The restaurant itself is over/near water and the decor just beautiful. 4. The food, while not authentic indian nor thai....as fusion and interpretations, was tasty. 5. Pricey- as indicated in yelp description. Dinner for two- one appetizer, one entree, one side and a soda came out to $115 USD.
google avatar

Yelp
We LOVE Indian food and Elefanta did not disappoint. They have gorgeous seating both on the water and inside. We were in town for 1 week and ended up eating her twice because we liked it so much. If you stay at the Westin Lagunamar, let them know and you get a free daiquiri. My boyfriend and I like to share a few things to get a few options. Our first time we did the stuffed mushroom appetizer, the stuffed chicken in a creamy sauce, and the paneer makhani. All were delicious. We did have to order 1 rice (not included) and they include sauces on the side: raita, tamarind, mint chutney, hot sauce & pickled mangos. We got the gulab jamon for dessert which was pretty good- the ice cream wasn't. The second time we had both of the soups. The tomato soup was spicy but very good. The sour lamb soup was different but also good. This time we got chicken makhani and the veggie patties in sauce (basically a malai kofta of sorts). Both were very good. For dessert I had the pistachio kulfi which came in a cone and it was so good- a perfect ending. Highly recommend this little gem of a restaurant.

Yelp
Great Food and Ambiance. Amazing service. We ordered Dal Makhni, paneer Angara, biryani, kadhai Paneer and Nan. Everything was great

V T.

Yelp
A gem in Cancun. We came by it by chance while visiting the interactive aquarium. Amazing ambience! Private huts by the lagoon. If you want one facing the lagoon call upto 5 days in advance to reserve. Food and service was amazing, biryani left us wanting a bit but everything else was great taste and quality.
google avatar

Ankush K.

Yelp
Went with a group of 8 people on a weeknight. Food was great, can't complain there, other than the fact that the appetizers came out cold. The flavors were all spot on and the drinks were great. Entrees were amazing as well. Each hut has ceiling fans so we were able to keep somewhat cool. The bar is really cool that the liquor display is also glass into a water tank with 3 dolphins in it from the aquarium next door. Service was great, always had a waiter around and was super quick and efficient. We hung out to smoke Hookah after that because they offer it, but wouldn't go back for the hookah again, wasn't that great.

Yelp
This place is one of my go to's when I'm in Cancun. I love this place. The food is delicious and the staff is great. You get to sit next to the lagoon and enjoy a beautiful view (specially if you go during the sunset) and sometimes you can even see crocodiles. I highly recommend you try the lentils with the coconut naan. It is to die for!! The only thing I would say is that last time I went the music was incredibly loud. I asked if they could lower it a bit and they put it louder. That was very annoying but it has only happened once.

Jess G.

Yelp
This place is a sushi, Indian food, and Thai food restaurant all in one. It was our go to spot for sushi rolls and sake bombs. We always sat in one of the private cabanas. The restaurant is right on the water and when it gets closer to night time, the mosquitoes come out. They have bug spray for you before your meal if you'd like it. My legs were bit so much one night so you should go for the bug spray if you'll be dining closer to sunset/night time. They have an English and Spanish sushi menu. Everything on the sushi menu is good here including the rolls, hand rolls, and appetizers. For the Thai and Indian food menu I wouldn't know.
google avatar

Parinita R.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance, great food and excellent customer service. We ordered paneer angara, couple of mains, side of dal makhni and garlic naan. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. To top it off the ambiance of this place is gorgeous. Would highly recommend this place

Yelp
Came in to Elefanta 10/10 for a goodbye Cancún dinner with friends. Boy did this place meet our Indian food expectations!!! The decor and ambiance were stunning to say the least. The and drinks were incredible. We ordered a wide range of dishes to share among them panner, tikka masala, lamb chops and garlic and cheese naan & others I can't remember. One drink that does stick out was the Mazapán martini I could have had 4 but I didn't . It was a perfectly made and the rim was covered in Mazapán instead of sugar, oh did I mention it was double the size of a regular martini?!? Finally the waiters brought my husband and I 2 beautiful and yummy cheesecakes and sang happy birthday to us.
