This was the last stop on our 3 week road trip from California to Oregon, through Idaho and Utah, before stopping in Las Vegas. We picked Elements Summerlin because it boasted being eco conscious, for the healthy lifestyle, was newly remodeled, and was away from the strip.
Although, their design is on the right path, this hotel is no where near complete with the "remodel" and was quite disappointing. Upon arrival, we saw most of the first floor and half of the second floor rooms under construction. Which meant many workers frolicking the hallways and making construction noises throughout the day and being overwhelmingly consumed by paint fumes.
Our room on the second floor, which was said to have been remodeled, had many issues and was quite dirty. It was more of facelift than a remodel. The fully stocked kitchen consisted of 4 mugs, 3 glasses an odd number of plates and bowls, 2 forks and a few spoons and butter knives, and a large pot to cook in. When we asked the front desk if the kitchen was intended to have a frying pan, she said yes, but at this time it might not. She said she would try to locate one and send it up.
At which time, we decided to wash all the dishes and cutlery as dust was abound and a dish had remnants of food on it. About 20 minutes later, I was shocked to see a puddle of water and suds heading towards my luggage. When my husband directly complained to the front desk, the lady said that she would send up the manager immediately. Instead, an apologetic, but unsure housekeeper showed up and shrugged her shoulders and mopped it up with a towel before abruptly leaving.
A few minutes later, maintenance showed up, but also couldn't figure out why the dishwasher was leaking. My husband then asked him why the fire detector was covered in tape. His response was because the alarms keep going off due to the dust being created by the construction. He then removed the tape and told my husband that he could compensate us for the problems. He then stated that his "sales pitch" was that it would be better if we took points for compensation instead of a monetary compensation. He then left, leaving us with a towel on the floor as the resolution to the broken dishwasher.
After my husband went to pick up the towel, he then noticed the black grime on the bottom. My husband then proceeded to mop our floor with water and the towel and we were repulsed by what appeared on it. We quickly decided socks or shoes were needed at all times. On top of all this, the next morning, as I went to turn the grinder on their salt container, the lid broke easily off and emptied all of the salt onto my eggs and all over the floor!
I must note that this is also a dog friendly hotel and if these walls and ceilings could talk, they would bark, in addition to the reverberating of human conversations and other noises from the other rooms. Also, the pool oddly closes at 8pm, so cooling off with a late night swim, after a day of excursion, on these rather scorching days, are out of the question. The evening socials that they host, consist of ice tea with crackers and cheese. Very skimpy in comparison to other hotels who offer alcoholic beverages and a full on meal.
I would be very hesitant to stay at this hotel at this time, until all the rooms are completed and they work out their customer service issues. The only positive of this place was the healthier breakfast options, which we very much appreciated.
