"First impressions? Marriott chose a tucked-away location, east of central Melbourne on the Yarra River, for its first Element hotel in Australia. The property is quiet, without much buzz, but its charming lobby-lounge, featuring deep armchairs and a fireplace, is a pleasant spot to hang out—particularly in the evenings, when the hotel offers free drinks and snacks. What's the backstory? Element is Marriott's eco-conscious, health-focused brand. Aside from the riverfront location, the green features here are relatively subtle: LED lighting, water-saving taps, and—a neat touch—free bikes to borrow. Tell us all about the rooms? What the guest rooms lack in character they make up for in natural light, which pours in through floor-to-ceiling windows. Those recovering from jet-lag will appreciate the excellent soundproofing, cozy beds and comfy sofas (in even the smallest rooms). Upgrade for a generous balcony with skyline views. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi is strong and free. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? The Mint Lane Restaurant and Bar offers a comprehensive breakfast buffet with an emphasis on healthier options like omelettes, fruit, and yogurt. Lunch and dinner are decent, too—a vegan burger with pomegranate molasses is an unexpected highlight—but look elsewhere for a lively scene. And the service? Service is delivered with typical Australian warmth. What type of travelers will you find here? An eclectic bunch of business and leisure travelers, plus sports fans attending games at the nearby Melbourne Cricket Ground . What about the neighborhood? Richmond, one of Melbourne's most exciting quarters, has hip bars, great Vietnamese food, and interesting shopping. The hotel is slightly removed from the action, but trams running past the front door will put you in the thick of things within five minutes. Is there anything you'd change? Although you can pick up snacks and drinks from reception, there are no mini-bars in the guestrooms—presumably to encourage healthy eating habits. Any other hotel features worth noting? The hotel's 24/7 gym is well equipped, but hitting the path along the Yarra River is arguably a more pleasant way to exercise. Bottom line. This comfortable, low-key property gets the basics right and benefits from a riverside perch." - Dan F. Stapleton

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Element in Richmond. The King suite with hot tub on the private terrace was incredible! It was so nice to relax in the tub especially on those cool Autumn nights. A big shout out to the Duty Manager Jayrick who was so personable and friendly and ensured our stay was comfortable and relaxing. Also, Bobby was very friendly too. Thanks for a great stay for my husbands birthday.

The top floor has beautiful views of the city. It is surprisingly quiet inside the hotel building l. The hotel is clean with lovely features like being dog friendly, a well appointed gym. We had catered food here for a function and dietary requirements were done very well.

My family stayed at the Melbourne Element for 3 nights and we enjoyed our stay there. The hotel environment is relax though a bit distance from city Centre. The breakfast is delicate in high quality and the bread is tasty. The staff is particularly helpful and Marie is great enough to make hot milk and boil eggs and explained the Australian products to me. I appreciated her hospitality and please help relay our thanks to her . The only thing to improve is the housekeeping . Thanks and we shall visit again .

I was there for a week and was sadly surprised that this Element Hotel doesn't have the normal standard element amenities such kitchen, spacious room and dedicated services. There was even no chair in the room and when I asked the reception told me they don't provide chair for guests. I needed a chair as I can't fold my knee and needed to sit on a chair to pray. I was disappointed to the core. No welcoming water bottle in the room , even 1 and when I asked they said I can drink tap water or buy water at the reception. I stayed in Element in New York 3 times, in Doha 2 times and the services were great but in Melbourne it was a disappointment

Great hotel near the City of Melbourne . Quiet yet close to Church St and charming Richmond suburb. Modern in design, with good room size, very clean and great food . Love the homey feeling and wellness concept this hotel has. Attentive Service is one of their strengths. Very helpful Team particularly Alastair, Jack and others in the front office. Their breakfast range is simple but healthy and tasty. I love the chai masala they offered , also options of ala carte and grab & go . We had our dinner in the restaurant and the food was fantastic, the barramundi curry was delicious. The pool table, the library corner and the chess just a neat idea, not to forget bicycles that available for rent.Tram # 70 is right across the hotel , and runs regularly makes a good option to go places. Thanks Element.

We really enjoyed our stay here. From the lush green outlook of the room to the warm helpful front desk staff - nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast had great variety and enjoyed the relaxed lounge area connected to the lobby. Will return again.
