Element Melbourne Richmond – Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"First impressions? Marriott chose a tucked-away location, east of central Melbourne on the Yarra River, for its first Element hotel in Australia. The property is quiet, without much buzz, but its charming lobby-lounge, featuring deep armchairs and a fireplace, is a pleasant spot to hang out—particularly in the evenings, when the hotel offers free drinks and snacks. What's the backstory? Element is Marriott's eco-conscious, health-focused brand. Aside from the riverfront location, the green features here are relatively subtle: LED lighting, water-saving taps, and—a neat touch—free bikes to borrow. Tell us all about the rooms? What the guest rooms lack in character they make up for in natural light, which pours in through floor-to-ceiling windows. Those recovering from jet-lag will appreciate the excellent soundproofing, cozy beds and comfy sofas (in even the smallest rooms). Upgrade for a generous balcony with skyline views. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi is strong and free. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? The Mint Lane Restaurant and Bar offers a comprehensive breakfast buffet with an emphasis on healthier options like omelettes, fruit, and yogurt. Lunch and dinner are decent, too—a vegan burger with pomegranate molasses is an unexpected highlight—but look elsewhere for a lively scene. And the service? Service is delivered with typical Australian warmth. What type of travelers will you find here? An eclectic bunch of business and leisure travelers, plus sports fans attending games at the nearby Melbourne Cricket Ground . What about the neighborhood? Richmond, one of Melbourne's most exciting quarters, has hip bars, great Vietnamese food, and interesting shopping. The hotel is slightly removed from the action, but trams running past the front door will put you in the thick of things within five minutes. Is there anything you'd change? Although you can pick up snacks and drinks from reception, there are no mini-bars in the guestrooms—presumably to encourage healthy eating habits. Any other hotel features worth noting? The hotel's 24/7 gym is well equipped, but hitting the path along the Yarra River is arguably a more pleasant way to exercise. Bottom line. This comfortable, low-key property gets the basics right and benefits from a riverside perch." - Dan F. Stapleton

Cozy and comfy hotel stay. This was my fourth visit and I love to stay in Element Richard given its location, reasonable room prices and overall experience , they are my key reasons to visit again|And again. I stayed on the top floor this time and had a lovely time. The hotel staff were professional and helpful with my requests and queries. The hotel offered car park facility and I love their security gate with a digital card operation. I also liked their welcome gift and their lucky draw. I got 500 bonus points from the lucky draw ;) awesome !

A great new hotel right on the river. Its in a busy thoroughfare but no noise and great access to transport to attend a game or to commute into the CBD. The hotel was beautiful and the beds comfortable. The staff were also wonderful. The only downside was that unfortunately they only have 25 parking spaces so to avoid parking on the street, make sure you book your parking with the hotel in advance 😊

Excellent experience, the service was exceptional, friendly and professional. Rooms clean and spacious, we had a corner room with district view, bed comfortable. Used complimentary bikes and road along the yarra. Location is perfect for a change of the busy city. Will stay again.

My partner and I stayed for one night only, very impressed with service, the room, the breakfast the following morning. Location was good as away from CBD but still close enough. Rooms very clean, bed very comfortable, amenities in bathroom great, I personally loved the coffee machine and the fact the room had blockout blinds not to mention late checkout and secure underground parking all in the price. We will definitely be back

Our favourite place to visit - had a great experience both times, took my daughter for her 13th birthday for a special weekend for two of us, and now again for her 16th birthday, and we are planning to come back when she is 19 again, as a special Mum - daughter tradition! The hotel is amazing, the staff are so wonderful and lovely, they were so cooperative with me when I asked if they could bring a birthday card and chocolates in the room as a special surprise for my daughter! She was so happy, and me too! Just our forever favourite hotel to stay in! :-)

This was a great spot! The design. Bit of colour. (Why every hotel on earth thinks cream and beige are the only choices I don’t know) ||Lobby up a set of stairs which is a little confused. But the lobby lounge superb. Colour, restful. A lot of work space. ||Gym great. Bikes outside. ||Rooms well designed. Big windows. ||But. But. But. Go change Yoga mats right now. They look like they have been used for a year in a paddock.

Convenient location with easy tram access into the city. The apartment appeared clean at first glance, but once I got into bed, I started itching—definitely not a good sign. Getting ice was oddly difficult, almost like pulling teeth from a chicken. The hotel felt somewhat empty and lacked the usual “Westin” vibe I’ve come to expect. On the positive side, breakfast was excellent—a huge variety of foods to choose from and well presented. Will I return? Probably not. With so many better options available, this one didn’t quite make the cut.

I stay here for work on occasion and they are very accommodating and friendly. Very clean & beds are super comfy which is pretty much my top concern when I stay somewhere. Would recommend.
