Arrival:||When travelling by car, free parking is impossible near to the hotel. ||If you want free parking, you can park close to the youth hostel. It will be a 15 minute walk, which includes a cross of the Donau. ||||Location:||The location is absolutely central in the Regensburg old city. A+. ||A big kaufhaus is located just a hundred meters by food, on the basement floor it contains a Edeka supermarket. ||||||We stayed in the Water room.||||No central reception is available, key has to be picked up at the Italian restaurant next door. We arrived at 16:00. One "old school" key was supplied.||The owner informed us that a handyman would arrive at 20:00 to do some work. For how long he could not say, but "not long". Really? This could not be done during normal hours?? We just wanted to make comfortable after a long drive, but no, we had to count with an uninvited guest. ||||Entry to the room, on the fourth floor, was only by stairs. No help was offered to carry any luggage (not required by us either, but still). There is no proper entrance and the whole place was in the middle of a renovation. Maybe it will look better in a few months...?||||Room impression:||Cleanliness is good. ||The room is split into a bedroom and a bigger room with the bath prominently in the middle. Very spacious, when adding beds this place could easily fit four. ||The bed was placed very nicely at the window, overlooking a square. We found it to be a very comfy bed, slightly hard, so a matter of taste. The blinds offered only partial light blockage, so sun might bother during longer days. || ||The room is on the top floor, with stairs leading up into the room. We could never hear any other guests, adding to a good sense of privacy. At night the square can be noisy (i.e. groups of people having a night out). Window isolation is not perfect, but it was not problematically noisy so high up. ||This was a cold March week. Heating is good in the bedroom, but inadequate in the room ||containing the whirlpool (only one small radiator built into the wall). However, it seems this problem is known and a electric heating fan was provided. ||I could envision the whole place to be very hot in summer, since there is no sign of AC. ||||The whirlpool itself is a very nice plus and functioned well. Please mind that no bath salts etc are provided for the whirlpool. The shower is modern, clean and well functioning.||||Room furnishing and craftmanship was not up to the level as this place is trying to sell itself as. Details are shoddy, like wall paint only matching the slightly bubbly wallpaper for a colour blind person, illogical light switches, improvised cabling, TV arm touching the bed when extended. These things are not show stoppers, but if you are paying 100+ euros a night excluding breakfast, my expectation is higher. ||Also of note is the fire safety of this building is questionable. A big exit sign on the door that we came through reminded me of this. Smoke detectors were fitted in the rooms (although I don't know if they are centrally connected?.. It will take some time for the first smoke to reach the top floor), but only one exit is available, through all of the four floors. ||||We did miss some things that can be expected. ||The room did NOT have:||a refridgerator/mini bar||water cooker||coffee&tea facilities||phone (which means no provided way to reach the owner, as said, no reception either)||||I don't mind going somewhere else to grab a bite, but it is my expectation to be able to enjoy a nice cold drink, especially when enjoying a whirlpool. Also I expect to be able to have a coffee without having to walk down four stairs. We asked for a water cooker, the owner told us there is none available, "but we could always come down to grab some hot water here".||||We did not take the breakfast option (15 euros pp), the place looked fine though. ||||We enjoyed our stay, but we had to do more work for this than I had expected at this budget. Unfriendly service would be the wrong wording, but a certain neglect towards guests could be felt, this to me is bothersome regardless of the price I pay per night. Such attitude has to change for this place to become better.||||What bothers me most is that most of these problems can be fixed with just a little effort and money. I hope some of this criticism is put to good use, but seeing the other review I am afraid it falls on deaf ears.||||Under some circumstances I recommend this place, e.g. if you get it at a price of 100 euros a night or a big craving for a whirlpool. ||Looking at the reviews here, there are safer bets in Regensburg.
