Stopped in for lunch because the Boxty house next door was booked up. Cute looking restaurant. Food ended up decent but had a really negative and unpleasant vibe that prompted this review. After we were seated we waited an unusually long line to put in our order. The server seemed curt immediately but nothing too crazy. The last person in our party asked a question about dairy in the dish she wanted. Instead of answering the question, the server said she was going to hold off on putting in the order until she located the allergy menu gave her a chance to peruse it and choose her order. It took her a long time to locate this menu and another long time before she came back. When my aunt asked a question about the item she wanted, the server declined to answer and got the manager, who struck up a defensive tone, when I asked if the kids' order could be put in ahead considering we'd already been waiting for 30 min or so. Rather than try to navigate the menu further, my aunt asked for the salmon without sauce. "Just make it good!" she added with a wink. The manager said it wouldn't be. My aunt said "ok how about a burger then? I'll just take off the bun... I'm easy!" Acknowledging that she wasn't, but trying not to let her dietary restrictions be a huge inconvenience. The manager said "very well I will pick for you," as she walked away. After we had been sitting in the restaurant for over an hour and the table next to us had all been served I walked up to our server to ask how much longer it would be. We had a toddler and an 8 year old who had ordered plain buttered pasta off the kids menu and were getting antsy. Rather than respond she muttered let me get the manager, and walked away. The same person who took my aunts order came over and I asked how much longer it would be, mentioning that the table to next to ours had all been served who had been seated after our full order finally went in, and pointing out we had been waiting an hour already. "Ah but you've only been waiting 25 minutes since the order went in, sir. I cannot accept what you're saying." She said if it ended up being more than half an hour of waiting " something would be done" but that the order was coming out. After another five minutes passed our food came out. My aunt's was last. They chose a chicken bacon sandwich for her, not remotely what she asked for. Possibly a choice based on one of our party's wearing a hijab? Neither our server or the manager checked in with us again, delegating it to other staff. I know "poor customer service" complainers are notoriously lacking in self awareness, but I swear we used smiles and gentle tones as we tried to communicate about our order and were met with extreme brusqueness.
For what it's worth my veggie sandwich was good and my daughter loved the buttered rigatoni.
