Elephant Trunk Hill

The hill is surrounded by a beautiful park with lots of things to do and see. The climb to the top of the hill is steep so good walking shoes and fitness required. As an Aussie I appreciated being able to buy a barista made flat white at the on-site Cafe.

Last month I just visited this place and very beautiful area Elephant Trunk Hill is named that way because the hill’s natural shape looks exactly like an elephant drinking water 🌊🐘. Why is it called Elephant Trunk Hill? The hill resembles a giant elephant standing by a river. Its “trunk” dips down into the water, as if the elephant is drinking. The arch between the “trunk” and the “body” forms a cave called Water Moon Cave, which reflects beautifully on the river at night. In Chinese, it’s called Xiangbishan (象鼻山): Xiang (象) = Elephant Bi (鼻) = Trunk Shan (山) = Hill And located at the confluence of Taohua River and Lu River in Guilin City Guangi ZHUANG The main scenic spots in Xiangshan area Include Water Moon Cave, Elepahant Eye Rock, Puxian Pagoda, Yunfeng Temple

"Elephant Trunk Hill, located at the confluence of Taohua River and Li River in Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is named because the shape of the hill resembles an elephant drinking water by the river and is known as the symbol of Guilin's landscape. The main scenic spots in Xiangshan Scenic Area include Water Moon Cave, Elephant Eye Rock, Puxian Pagoda, Yunfeng Temple, and the exhibition hall of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Revolutionary Site in the temple. Water Moon Cave is close to the riverside, and the Li River flows through it, like a floating moon in the water. One scholar in Jibei of the Song Dynasty wrote a poem Water Moon Cave Rhyme which was carved on the cave, saying "In the water, there is a bright moon, over the water, there is a floating moon. The water is flowing, while the moon is still there. The moon is gone, while the water is still flowing." The poem graphically depicts the beautiful scenery of the Water Moon Cave. In 2017, it was rated as a national AAAAA tourist attraction, covering an area of 118,800 square metres. It is a natural scenic spot of Karst landform. It has been a famous tourist attraction since the Tang Dynasty and has a tourist history of more than 1,000 years."

I recommend a stroll around Guilin, where this elephant-shaped hill, a symbol of the city, is located near the center. For foreign tourists, admission is free and no reservation is required. You must have a passport, which obviously applies to all of China.

Interesting place that has hundred years of history. Nice park to walk around in and enjoy the scenery. It can be crowded so pick your tune to visit and avoid the crowd.

This place is extremely calm and quiet. It is a great place to take a break from shopping when on holidays. The post officer nearby sells souvenirs and post cards with imprints of the elephant trunk hill. Be warned that it can get extremely crowded at times due to the large influx of people trying to take photos with the hill

Good place There are walking tracks and boating facilities, rest rooms and restaurants However we found lot of tourist groups and jarring sound of each group being explained over hand mike all across

Nice sightseeing spot, although very busy with a lot of tourists even outside of public holiday season.
