We’ve been traveling through Norway for 21 days, and Eliassen Rorbuer is the only place where breakfast was not included, which is surprising given the standard to high pricing. Every other hotel we’ve stayed at—without exception—offered breakfast. The place is very rustic, almost like a refined camping experience. The cabins are packed tightly together, with little privacy, a lot of surrounding noise, and poor ventilation: the windows barely open, and it was very hot inside, especially at night. Comfort is quite minimal. Another frustrating issue is the hot water system—a small tank shared between multiple buildings, so it’s very easy to run out of hot water, especially after a day of outdoor activities. 👉 The only real positive is the view. The location is stunning, surrounded by majestic mountains. You can get beautiful photos and enjoy the natural setting. That said, the overall value for money is disappointing. It feels like the place relies heavily on its popularity and location without delivering a level of comfort or service to justify the cost. We only booked here because everything else was sold out, and honestly, we would not recommend this accommodation, except perhaps in the off-season—or for those seeking a very basic, rustic experience.

I love authentic travel experiences and, having read the hotel description, I knew this was a 3-star property — so I wasn’t expecting luxury. However, even for its category, some aspects were disappointing.||My cabin, booked as a superior, felt closer to entry level: the shower was not enclosed, so water spread across the floor. If a shower is offered as a service, it should work properly and comfortably. The window frames were damaged, letting in drafts. The terrace initially seemed inviting, until we realized it was actually a public walkway, meaning a constant flow of people passing by and no privacy at all.||Cars are embedded in the heart of the village, which unfortunately destroys much of the charm and atmosphere of a fisherman’s setting.||On the positive side, the south Lofoten area is stunning, and the location is excellent as a base for hiking and exploring the islands.||Overall, while the village has great potential, I have found the experience offered overrated and overpriced.

Beautiful, characterful location & lovely restaurant were the highlights. |But check the detail when you book as there are a few categories of room - we didn’t look closely enough at the descriptions & made assumptions (our fault). Many cabins are not traditional buildings on the waterfront but terraced rooms set out like a barracks on the carpark, which isn’t 100% clear from the website. |Our “superior cottage” consisted of a TINY bedroom, galley kitchen, seating area & small shower room. |Bedroom consisted of a small hanging space & a double bed pushed up against a wall. No space to even walk round the end of the bed. No bedside lights. |The seating area was nice & had a table for 2, chairs & sofa bed (but couldn’t have slept here in 24-hour sun as Velux windows had no blinds!!) ||No housekeeping in a 2-day stay but clean towels on request. ||We booked due to the location being so well known, but there are loads of rorbuer in the area to rent independently -wish we had researched these. Also a long walk to the centre of Reine along the road.

Great location with beautiful views, fish and chips by the water was amazing and the kayaking is a must and the staff were great. The cabins are great, warm, yeah the hot water runs out quick but is no issue as they have notices advising on water conservation and 4 of us were able to shower. Only negative would be if you stay in one of the iconic cabins you do get tourists who do not understand privacy walking onto your cabin and even trying the door key pads. I understand the photo/view from the cabin is amazing but some just wander onto your balcony and take photos. Maybe some signs saying private residents only at the entrance to cabin would help.

While the cottages are a good size, they are pretty basic. The bedding was comfortable enough but we had to ask for additional pillows as the 2 provided were very small and flat. And the bedroom is basically a closet with a bed. There's a window but it can't be opened as it looks directly into the cottage across from it. The kitchen is well-stocked but lacking any napkins or paper towels. The hot water tanks for the shower are very small so you'll need to spread out shower times. We would have liked to have slept on the couch to enjoy the beautiful views but the pull out bed was broken. The road down to the hotel is riddled with large potholes so be careful not to damage your tires or rims. ||Having said all that, the location and the views make it worth staying. We were in cottage 57B (waterfront superior 1 bedroom) and had the most beautiful view. I would avoid any cottage that's not waterfront as your view will only be of another cottage. ||The communication from the staff to answer my questions prior to check-in was very prompt and detailed.

Great location for the lofoten islands, Amazing place, view, clean, comfortable, quiet. The rorbuer is nice, cosy and comfortable. The view on the circus of mountains is amazing and you can see it everyday of your stay to see the light changes ! I really recommand it for a central place to visit Lofoten. We did everything in car from this spot

Eliassen Rorbuer is a lovely location. The breakfast house has local croissants, friendly breakfast staff. The Italian trattoria, Gadus, on site has some good pasta dishes but greatly overcooked fish. Staff was a bit accusatory regarding the fish. After some convincing they made a new piece of fish. Our cabin had a few issues. The shower drain backed up nearly to the toilet after 60 seconds of use. Should’ve seen that coming as there is a large water squeegee in the corner of the bathroom for this purpose. The hair dryer was inoperable. Unable to wash hair during my stay. Walls of these cabins are thin, you will hear your neighbors and vice versa. Lights in kitchen were also broken but a staff member came to repair it same day.

Absolutely loved our stay at Eliassen Rorbuer! The location is incredible — right on the water with stunning views in every direction. Our cabin was super cozy and charming, and we fell asleep each night to the sound of the sea. It’s close to all the best hikes in Lofoten, and within walking distance to a bakery, restaurant, and sauna. Perfect base for exploring and relaxing. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Amazing views! Adorable little cabins! Very comfortable and quiet and the kitchen has everything you need. There was a hair dryer!! Staff was very helpful. And there are many cute kitty cats hanging out. Our visit to this part of the Lofoten islands was soured by lots of rain and gray skies but even still, the views and the scenery are spectacular. Kitchen was great for cooking as there aren't a lot of restaurant options, especially in the off season. Cons: Renting a bike was very expensive as there wasn't an option to take it out for an hour. It's also so hilly here you'd need to be in good shape to pedal around. Mattresses a bit thin. No breakfast. There's not a ton to do in this part of Lofoten and it's the most remote part if you arrive in Svolvaer, but it's ideal for relaxing and enjoying the exquisite scenery. Also, none of the 1 bedrooms have direct water views (I don't think). We were in #10.

Yelp
Great place to stay in the lofoten. Just be warned about the noisy gulls that knock over your coffee if you're not careful!
