Overall, this is a very good, high quality hotel with excellent facilities. The older more traditional area of the hotel has a good mix of traditional decor with a modern twist. The rooms on the first floor seemed to be reserved for the tour operator guests (Tui / Ingams etc). Our room was very clean and well equipped. Room 102 had a separate toilet away from the bathroom but with no sink, Handwashing was done in the main bathroom. Lovely deep bath and separate shower. |On our second day the tilt and turn door failed to operate properly and we were only able to open the door, not tilt it. This meant leaving the door open all day which was not an option for us and we knew the weather was warming up. There is no AC in the rooms and ventilation is done by opening a window. We asked to move and our alternative room at the end of the corridor (105) was huge with a large sunny balcony with good bathroom facilities. Room was a bit dark due to wood panelling but the bathroom was very well lit. |Small empty fridge in the room. 2 bottles of water on arrival but tap water there after, which is safe to drink here. No tea and coffee facilities which I think is the norm for Austria. |Lovely comfortable large bed with feather pillows (but you have to pay for the special pillows which seems most bizaar). In room 105, The feathers in the pillows were very scratchy but these were replaced when asked with softer feather pillows. Bath robes and spa slippers. Nice touch. Very clean room. |The spa area was incredible and well thought out. Inside and outside Jacuzi. Inside pool (a little cool for me). Water beds and Sauna, Steam room. Outside sun bathing area. Extra towels were available for the use at the spa. |Food? Think Professional Master Chef with the fish particularly being cooked to perfection. A little fancy and rich, by the end of the week with us craving some simple Austrian food but overall the fact that the meals were served at your table (with exception to the salad) was appreciated. |Breakfast was good. A good choice of cheese and hams. Bircher muesli (delicous), fresh fruit and a chef cooking eggs., sausages and bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes. Choice of jams and good quality bread. Nice self service coffee machine (the one on the left has better tasting coffee in our opinion). |Waiting staff (David was our waiter) were very friendly and approachable, as were the other waiting staff. |What lets this hotel down is some of the staff on reception and one tall blonde, female, in the restaurant area (folds napkins in the morning). No eye contact, grumpy, unapproachable, said good morning but not sure if she meant it. We had a similar experience at reception. With exception to one dark haired female (shoulder length hair) who was always smiling and helpful, all other staff we encountered seemed not to know how to smile, were grumpy and we felt like we were not welcomed. We really are not sure what is going on and why they would want to be that way. |When checking out, no one asked if we had a good holiday and the final straw was on the last morning when we were being picked up by the coach 5 minutes before the breakfast room was open. We arrived 10 minutes early and asked the tall smart man on reception if we could have a quick coffee before leaving, the response was 'no, the restaurant does not open until 7 am. No apology or empathy and no chance of entering into conversation as he quickly shut himself away in the room behind reception. Maybe the owners think the quality of the hotel will be enough to keep customers coming back. Not us.
