An anachronism in the heart of Soho. Walk through the gates to be transported to another time, another place. Elizabeth Street Garden is like a mini mini version of Highgate Cemetery, which happens to be one of the most hauntingly beautiful places I've ever visited. Given its covert location, not many know of this sanctum of peace, and while half of me wishes to tell it to the world, the other half wishes to keep it secret among a few...
Nay, let me whisper it to you:
Find it in the middle of Elizabeth Street. Walk in and admire the collection of statues on your left and right. Stroll through the flower gardens, and take in all the colors -- magenta, canary yellow, fresh green. Watch children weave in and out of the flowering blooms. Entertain the idea that maybe, after all, there can be right in the world. Sundays will pass quickly here, whether you come for a stroll, a bite, or a quiet afternoon of reading. Leave through the gates, meeting oncoming traffic and hear again the hustle and bustle of the city.
This is what New York is all about.
