We booked a stay for two nights because we like to be near the Lamar Valley for early morning animal sightings. This was our first time staying at Elkhorn Lodge and would definitely stay here again. It’s very clean and has comfy beds with nice linens, plentiful fluffy towels and is near some decent restaurants. Loved the wi-fi and TV after being incommunicado with the rest of the world all day. Stephanie and Brian were very friendly at check-in and gave us advice for dining. Later they loaned us supplies for our next day’s outing. Nice people!

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. We were able to check in two hours early. We stayed in cabin 2. It was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The electronic, push button lock on the cabin door means no worries of a lost key. This lodge is a great value when compared to in-park lodging options. We are happy we discovered Elk Horn Lodge and will be returning in the future.

We've traveled to Cooke City multiple times now, and stay at the Elk Horn Lodge if we can. The rates are reasonable, the rooms comfortable and very clean. They have wifi and satellite tv for the evenings. We love staying here and chatting with Jeff and Lisa when we can. Hope to visit again soon!

Wonderful small cabin. Two couples fit comfortably. Beds were comfortable. Cute little kitchenette area that had all you would need. The gas fireplace worked great to keep us warm when needed. Close to nearby breakfast and dinner options.

Great stay to end our Yellowstone and Grand Teton visit and embark onto the Beartooth and Chief Joseph Highways! Extremely friendly and accommodating service and comfy rooms. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. A great location for a Yellowstone trip as well. Located minutes out of the Park’s Northeast entrance and minutes to Lamar Valley.

Jeff was lovely. Extremely helpful with every need. A beautiful, clean, well equipped room. Comfy bed and even a nice pillow. Even provided rags and drip tray for snowy boots, for clean up-frosty windshields etc. Will definitely stay there again.

We were so thrilled to have stayed here. I wanted somewhere close to Lamar Valley as I planned on very early and very late visits to photograph wildlife and that is a big reason I chose Cooke City. We also wanted to explore the Beartooth Highway and Chief Joseph Scenic hwy and this location was ideal! It was located in the heart of Cooke City and we walked everywhere from the Lodge||We had cottage #2. It was large and comfortable. Two beds, dresser, table and couch with TV and a gas fireplace for heat. It kept the place warm and comfortable. There is a small kitchen with a small fridge and stove and microwave. There is a very very tiny freezer inside the fridge. There are dishes and silverware. The property was quiet.||The bathroom is quite small. I am 5'5" and had to duck down to see in the mirror to fix my hair so you can imagine the trouble my 6'3" husband had to do to see. And the day we got there I stood up from the toilet and leaned forward a bit too much and struck my head hard on the shelf opposite the toilet. I came very close to passing out and ended up with a huge knot and bruising on my head for days. These were the only complaints of the room.||Our other complaint was there is no ice maker on site. The owner brought a small bowl of ice a few of the days but we use a lot in our drink bottles so had to make sure our cooler was stocked fully.||Other than those things it was still a wonderful place to stay and I still give it 5 stars. And we intend on staying there again.

Jeff and Lisa are amazing! There isn’t anything our room lacked! Our beds were soooo comfortable, our room spotless, decor bright and cheery and the hospitality extended, so appreciated. Of the places we stayed on our nine day Yellowstone vacation this was our favorite. And while I loved the town of Red Lodge I’d stay in Cooke City just so that I could stay at the Elkhorn Lodge. I’d stay here again and again!

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights and it was very nice. The place was clean and offered everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The town was quite dead during our stay (Fall 2021). Prob one restaurant was open and two gas stations with affordable prices. The lodge is close to Silver Gate (~2.5 miles away) that offers breakfast/lunch and a general store to grab quick items. It's ~40 mins from Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park. Awesome place to enjoy wildlife, photography, and beautiful hikes. We would lodge here again and try to book their cute cabins (there are two) if available.

Yelp
Very nice, clean hotel just outside Yellowstone in the cool town of Cooke City. The room was simple but had everything you'd need including a mini fridge and freezer. A bison walked right past our room one morning. I'm not sure if that's a plus or minus, but we were excited!

Yelp
We spent 3 nights here over the 4th of July weekend. We were very impressed with how clean the entire property is. We had a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee in the room. We only used refrigerator to keep drinks cold. Good food and coffee are all within easy walking distance. Beds are comfortable and plenty of towels are provided. We will definitely stay here again. Highlight of our stay was watching fireworks from the porch.

Yelp
I bicycled over the Beartooth plateau on Memorial Day, arriving at the Elk Horn Lodge thoroughly exhausted. Lisa and Jeff (owner/operators) bent over backwards to insure my comfort. Their location is in the center of town, and the rooms are very comfortable. You'll be happy at the Elk Horn Lodge.

Yelp
We got one of the cabins. It was a great price and close to the NE entrance of Yellowstone. Great access to Lamar Valley. The hotel is walking distance to restaurants & breakfast options - even early morning (5am) for the sunrise animal seekers.

Yelp
This is a great motel, very clean and the owners take great pride in awesome customer service. This is the best motel in Cooke City to stay at. The motel is across the street from Miners Saloon which has good food and drinks. I would highly recommend this motel especially considering that you are in the middle of nowhere. We take a snowmobile trip to Cooke city and have stayed at other places but this is the best. The owners run the place and take great care of their guests

Yelp
Pretty basic rooms, but comfortable enough. When we stayed here the water in town was not drinkable, for some reason, and they provided us with bottled water in our room. The temperature in the room was quite hot all night-- too hot to use any covers. That's my only complaint. Overall, this is a good place to stop on the way to Yellowstone. The drive over Bear tooth pass to get here is absolutely spectacular, the town of Cooke City is a charming old western town, and the northeast entrance to Yellowstone is lovely and much less traveled than the more popular south and east entrances.

Yelp
Excellent little place. Great rooms, very clean, quite and pleasant. The owners are amazing, genuine people, wish there were more people like that in the world. Super close to the park, would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Very cool family run hotel in the beautiful town of Cooke City, Montana. Come here, if you are sick of the 'touristy' side of Yellowstone! This friendly frontier-style town has all you want right here: nice people, good beer, great food, awesome wilderness! The Elkhorn Lodge is well kept and has comfortable rooms for those travelers who are sick of spending 100s of dollars for NP accommodation. The views of the surrounding mountains are stunning and we went to the Lamar valley at dusk to see the Druid Peak Pack of wolves. It was fantastic! Rent your spotting scope in the Silvergate General Store and ask for Rick and Doug, the local wolf guys.

Yelp
Very clean and reasonably priced motel close to the northeast entrance to Yellowstone in the quaint community of Cooke City, MT. Beds were very comfy and room had most everything you would need. No ice machine but there are plenty of places in town to accommodate that need. Conveniently located allowing you to walk to shops and restaurants in town. Not sure if this is true in all rooms but our shower head hit us at chest height - both about 5'10" - not so good. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!

Yelp
This was a nice, clean place to stay if you are going to drive the Beartooth Highway with a lodge feel to it. The only thing I would say is to not stay here if you think you may have to cancel for any reason because they have a 14 day no refund policy. That is why I give it a 3. Otherwise, it's a nice place in a neat looking little town.

Yelp
We have visited Cooke City every year for about the past 20 years to visit nearby Yellowstone. We have stayed in most of the hotels, but Elk Horn Lodge is BY FAR the best. This small centrally located 2 story picturesque hotel has 8 large rooms, each with patio or balcony area to watch the world go by and gaze at the mountains. Each room has a microwave and fridge plus access to the hot tub (great after a day of outdoor activity). Also access to a BBQ. Although the office is on the Main Street, the rooms are tucked on a side street cutting down on the main street noise (lots of motorcycles). Book early because rooms get scarce quickly. Owners are great and involved.

Yelp
Everytime we come to Cooke City to ski/snowmobile, we stay at the Elkhorn. We have always been impressed by the mom and pop sort of service. The rooms are basic, but they are well maintained. The rooms were reasonably priced and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is just passing through.
