Elm Street Books

What an amazing bookstore! We were visiting from out of state and loved the charm of this fun shop. They employees were beyond helpful- we would love to come back if we are ever in the area again.

This is an independent bookstore with a friendly staff. I am a fantasy reader and that selection was not that big, but they have a lot of fiction and a beautiful children’s section!

Cool space etc. enjoyed my experience, have shopped her a lot UNTIL I’m checking out tonight and this beautiful woman with a sick kid asks where she can change her kid’s clothes. The mom has two other kids waiting patiently next to her. The woman at the register says the bathroom “is full Of boxes” and there is not a single space in which she can go change her kid’s Outfit (despite the open air office being visible to all). Her staff is notably weirded out by this and starts offering up different spaces at which point she snaps and directs the mom to the Dunkin’ Donuts bathroom across the street, with a crying kid in her arms. If you’re the owner, fire this woman asap (the whole store stared in shock); otherwise, do not do not go to this store.

I was searching for Dr. Markary's Blind Spots after seeing him speak on Cspan. I came across the book on the Elm Street Book store website after finding it sold out at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Thriftbooks. Susan contacted me after my purchase through email informing me that my order would be filled and shipped the next day, Sept 30th. I received my book Oct 2nd- can you say wow! Thank you to all the mom and pop bookstores that are so essential to keep the printed word alive.

This bookstore has just the right feel. It is not too large. It has small cards inserted on the shelves sporadically to describe various novels. It is for the true book lover. I'm glad that we still have the pleasure of visiting such bookstores in the era of the big box retailer. I encourage everyone to support such shops.

Elm Street Books 📚 is another one of my favorite destinations downtown New Canaan. The book store provides friendly dedicated service about all things involving literature able to suggest the best books 📚 for children and adults of all ages. When big booksellers literally put Elm Street Books out of business, volunteers from New Canaan kept the bookstore alive. Volunteers made the difference making Elm Street Books what it is today. The bookstore has totally awesome 😎 guest lecturers creating an exciting educational experience. Wow! What a great shop. I was really impressed with their selection and also sad this store isn't in my NYC neighborhood. It really reminded me of a lot of the shops we used to have in the city and no longer do. I hope the New Canaan residents really appreciate them and show them some love.

We were visiting a few summers ago and I was explaining to the lady who worked there that my 8-year-old boy was a reluctant reader and that he really hadn't found any books that excited him. The lady working also happened to be an elementary teacher and she recommended Nathaniel Hale's "Hazardous Tales" series to us. These books had him hooked. He devoured every book in that series and has since read them over and over again. He's now graduated onto older kid history books, but they have provided the same entertainment for my two younger sons. I wanted to thank you helping to provide that spark of joy for my son who didn't think reading was for him.

Friendly, neighborhood bookstore with good selection and quick orders for anything not in stock.

It really makes me happy to see and support small book shops. I always try and support local small businesses when I can. They have a great assortment of books and puzzles at all times. I appreciate how diligent they are in rotating the displays accordingly. If there is a change in season, an upcoming holiday, or a book that has recently become popular, you will see them displayed in the store front. The staff is extremely helpful and very knowledgeable on books of all types. If you are looking to give a book as a gift, they are able to recommend a few titles to you. If they don't have a book in stock, they are more than willing to place an order for you.

I forgot to take a picture! I stopped here on the way to dinner with friends in the area. It was so nice to see a charming little book store such as thi s, alive and well. So many book stores have closed down. I was in book heaven. I was also on a walker at the time. (My review is several months old) and they were so nice with helping me around the store. It is a wee bit pricey but I did make a purchase. They have a nice selection. The friendliness of the store employees will ensure that I come back. It is a great little store!

I'm up in New Canaan every few months with family and always love stopping in at this independent bookstore. The staff is always helpful and they have a fantastic selection. I highly suggest enriching your life by stopping here whenever you find yourself in New Canaan!

I thought this was a really cute little bookstore, nicely organized. I always try to support the smaller bookstores, and I'd return if I was in the area again.

I needed a gift of books for my 9 year old grandchildren. I don't live in the area so I phoned in to get some ideas and I relied on the expertise of the Elm Street Book buyers to give me some guidance. Melissa is the childrens' book buyer and she was WONDERFUL ! I got age appropriate books and a few other goodies for the grand children. All very successful gifts. You cannot get that kind of expertise from Amazon....Three Cheers for the independent bookstores like Elm Street Books, who employ really knowledgeable, smart buyers!

This is a great bookstore in the heart of an idyllic Main Street. Sometimes New Canaan can seem a bit, well, snobby, but the staff at the store makes everyone feel welcome. The store is small, but the selection of books is lovingly selected, so I've never walked out without finding something interesting to read...

It's rare to find such a terrific independent bookstore. Independents keep communities thriving - and the customer service is truly outstanding!! They can get what you want and they do it with a smile!!! They wrap; ship; and their sales people are READERS. Do yourself a favor and visit.

A wonderful bookstore, locally owned and operated, which is becoming a real rarity. The space is small but has a diverse selection of books and knickknacks, and they always let me take my time browsing. This place is unique and a real treasure in the heart of New Canaan.

I love Elm Street Books. Their offerings are well 'curated', and the staff is friendly and wonderful at helping you find a book for yourself or for someone else. They also have nice gift items, cards and holiday items.
