A Review of Hotel Chalet, Chattanooga | Hotels Above Par

"Paying homage to Chattanooga’s history, this Appalachian bistro takes its name from architect Donn Barber’s wife, Elsie—a family name that carried on for generations—and serves a French-Belgian-inspired menu that creates an unforgettable dining experience in its parlor or patio. From sharables to large plates, think of blending Southern heartiness with European finesse, with farm-to-table menus when possible." - Haley Bartlett

Our first time eating at Elsie’s Daughter happened to be when we were celebrating my birthday brunch! As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed with warmth and kindness. Our food was delicious (breakfast burrito, biscuits and gravy, and French toast) and my birthday apple cobbler was 10/10! The vibe is very cool and the walk to the restaurant from the street parking is so fun! It’s tucked away in the Choo Choo court. 100% would recommend this place!!!

This place is so cute, the quaint quirky and retro vibe was impeccable and the ambiance was fantastic. The indoor outdoor area is gorgeous and the in house live signers throughout the week are a treat. The service was amazing, both the host and the servers were very attentive. The food was great large portions, the Ragu was flavourful and massive. Overall amazing and would 100% recommend if in the area.

This is a really nice place located at the end of the Choo Choo (in the corner, kinda hidden). I went during Saturday brunch. Reservation was not required and it wasn't busy. Let me jist start with an overall rating. I'd rate my experience a solid 8.5/10. I'd give it a recommendation for those looking to try a downtown restaurant and I plan to return to try dinner. Our waitress was very kind and attentive! Because this was my first visit, I ordered multiple things. I started with the oysters, which were okay, but I wouldn't write home about them. Next was the Autumn salad, my favorite and included arugula, butternut squash, goat cheese, and pecans. I thought it was a nice Fall dish, very well made. For the entree, I ordered the shrimp and grits. I think it was what you would expect for a shrimp and grits dish. Im not a big fan of grits, but nothing was left on the plate lol. My daughter ordered the French toast. She noted that she liked the crispy edges amd the blueberry sauce. Cocktails were good too. I ordered the Expresso Martini and Blood Orange mimosa.

This place was unknown to my wife and I but when I heard about it, we always like to try new places to eat. Turns out, it’s great. From the atmosphere to the food, it’s really good. We shared a smash burger, fries, short rib ragu and green beans. Dessert was chocolate ganache with marshmallow fluff. All were great! We will definitely work this into our rotation.

We were part of the Brunch crew today celebrating our son’s engagement to his future Bride! What great food, service and atmosphere. Phillip and all the crew at Elsie’s were wonderful, top notch and willing to go above and beyond!!! I had the Steak and Eggs, my wife had Shrimp and Grits! Both were amazing and full of flavor. Cooked to perfection with props to The Chef! Thanks again, we will be back! The Dyer’s

Jodi and her crew were absolutely amazing!!! The food was perfection. Everything was so good and the flavors were phenomenal. The staff is so friendly and funny. We loved them!!!! The pancakes are the BEST we’ve had in Chattanooga. They are so accommodating and always make our children feel welcome. We highly recommend this place.

Google
Absolutely fantastic food, service and atmosphere! Such a fun place that smells delicious the moment you walk in the door. Yummy wine from Spain, I loved the Parmesan fries and Flash Fried green beans. Our server Jodi was sooooo delightful. Great in all regards. Definitely recommend for anyone visiting Chattanooga.

Google
Holy sheet. We were staying at the Hotel Chalet and this place was right next door. We thought let’s grab a drink here to start and then find another place for dinner. We made the mistake of getting food here. OH MY GAWD! It was so frickin good. Our server was Miller and he took excellent care of us— so much that we had to stop by a few days later for dinner again hoping he’d be working and he was!!! Please check out the photos I posted as they show the meals were not just tasty but also aesthetically pleasing to the eye. We started with the house cocktails of the Sunset Rock— we had a 2nd round. Then we had the Autumn salad with the truffle fries and the steak and potatoes. Ugh. My mouth is watering just remembering how good it was. We finished the night off with the dark chocolate ganache. The balance of sweet dark chocolate and the slightly salty flavor with the marshmallow was a pallet party. On top of all this we went on a Tuesday evening so there was lovely live music to set the mood. 17 out of 10 here! If you are in the area or staying at Hotel Chalet I highly recommend going here.

Yelp
Great customer service and ambiance Feels like you are in a little Italian courtyard and not in the middle of the city We had the bacon wrapped dates (12/10 absolutely delicious), the oysters with delicious spicy blood orange minionette, I had the steak frites with a fresh chimichurri, and my fiancée had the half chicken-our only issue was that it was literally JUST chicken, nothing else offered not even a potato for an accompaniment. Also the "umami" was just burnt pieces. But the flavor was great and it was super juicy

Yelp
Went to Elsie's daughter for drinks and ended up staying for dinner too! Loved the cozy intimate atmosphere and our waiter was so nice and attentive to us. The had a lovely NA cocktail of the day & a nice selection of drinks. Got a charcuterie board and it was nice but looked a bit like ingredients that came right from the store. Entree was the daily fish which was delicious sans a few bones I encountered and had to pick out. Overall would come again!

Yelp
Upon checking into hotel chalet we are informed by the front desk staff that if we ate at the hotel restaurant that we would get 20% off if we charged it to the room so that's what we decided to do. Very glad that we made the choice to eat here it is very charming, the patio is lovely and we dined indoors. The cocktails were tasty and our entrées were so good. I ordered the short rib Pappardelle the pasta sauce had a great depth of flavor, and it was a great portion and very filling. The staff were all wonderful. I would highly recommend the spot.

Yelp
Neat little place tucked in behind the Choo Choo. Not a lot of locals as I feel this is fed by a lot of tourists staying at the hotel. The service is good, but laid back. If you're wanting a highly attentive server, this isn't it. Personally, I appreciate when a server knows when you need them and leaves you alone otherwise. Food is good/great. We had a mix of items like oysters, truffle fries, salads and charcuterie boards. Everything was good, but for the price point I was expecting a bit more.

Yelp
Boy was this spot different, all in a good way. A funky little courtyard (a bit warm in the middle of the summer) which we chose to enjoy a glass of wine and a small bite with our friends before dinner elsewhere. The interior is just as cool. Interesting BTG wine choices, a neat little menu and overall a good spot. Service was very good and we got some background on how this tony spot came to be. Will definitely eat dinner here next time in town.

Yelp
The atmosphere is super relaxing and made a great first impression. You enter through a metal gate that has ivy intertwined through it. The inside also a cool vibe. The service was excellent but I got there before typical dinner hours. As the restaurant filled up, I thought service would suffer but never did. Our waiter was friendly and attentive even when the tables were all full. The bar is made of wood appearing to be mahogany and is well stocked. The only reason for my three star review was the butternut squash soup. I eat this soup any time I see it on the menu. The rest of the food, including dessert was what you would expect from a good place.

Yelp
Chic, cozy, and cocktail-perfect. We stopped into Elsie's Daughter for a quick pre-dinner drink with friends and were pleasantly surprised by this stylish, welcoming spot. The vibe is cool and relaxed, with an atmosphere that immediately makes you feel at home. The staff was fantastic--friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. And the cocktails? Next level. Thoughtfully crafted, beautifully presented, and full of local, seasonal flavors that shine through in every sip. We didn't try the food this time around, but the drink experience alone earns five stars. Absolutely a must-visit in Chattanooga--we'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Popped in for a happy hour and was blown away by the house made vignette, the oysters were good, but the ginger jalepeno took it to the next level! I've enjoyed going for dinner, but will be back specifically for these happy hour oysters. Love the space and the patio!

Yelp
Delicious comfort food with a twist. Elsie's daughter is a cute kinda hidden away restaurant attached to The Chalet Hotel. The interior decor is very tasteful and slightly eclectic and the outside terrace is just a little magical hideaway. We came in with no reservation on a Saturday night (not ideal of us to do), but Baija cleared us off a table and was also our server. She was truly awesome. Great service, very on top of everything. Checking in with us, making sure everything was tasting good and when a drink that we ordered wasn't quite to our liking she no questions ask was like "I will replace it for you". She asked what type kf drink my husband likes normally and then came back with a drink that was perfect for him. For our food we got the Bacon Wrapped Quil and the Shrimp and Grits. The quail was served with rice and broccolini and was cooked perfectly. The quail was well complimented by the bacon. The shrimp and grits were divine and surprisingly light, it didn't weigh you down after eating it. The sausage and peppers in it balanced out the dish really well. It was a fantastic dinner. Our food was great but the service was phenomenal. It's a great place for a quiet date night.

Yelp
We popped in here for appetizers and cocktails when we were staying right next door at the Hotel Chalet and so glad we did! The vibe inside was super vintagey cute, but we chose to sit outside in the garden. Such a great space. My purple gin/champagne cocktail was delicious. We had some happy hour oysters- yum yum and amazing fresh mignonette. And those dates- oh man, some of the best stuffed dates ever. Service was great. We will be back!

Yelp
Brunch please! Came here for my birthday and it was wonderful! Such a cool vibe and we were in a covered, but controlled temperature patio. So it felt like we were outside. Our server was so awesome and attentive. Brunch menu was perfect, variety in Mimosas. Manager Jordan who I had spoken with the day before, came by. They made me feel like royalty on my birthday. I had the steak and eggs. Plates were empty. Definitely coming back here. Just the perfect amount of nice, without being too ostentatious. Go here you won't regret it. Also, the food we ordered doesn't LOOK fancy but it was great quality and good food.

Missy M.

Yelp
GREAT place! We stayed at the hotel and after a long day of roadtripping, the pool, the (wonderful!) live music, and the overall vibe of the courtyard were great but what sent it over the top was the AWESOME service we received from Jodi at the Caboose and the delicious food! Highly, highly recommend!!

Yelp
The ambiance was cozy, lit with candles, & vintage charm. It's tucked away behind the beautiful train cars & a must try. The drinks were unique and very well made. Their menu was excellent & the curry seabass is my new favorite dish! The staff were attentive & kind.
google avatar

Parth R.

Yelp
I was curious when this place boasted 5 stars as a hotel restaurant. I was wrong. This cocktail bar is tucked cozily behind the converted train car rooms at Hotel Chalet and boasts some beautiful ambiance. The service was impeccable (they turned on some heat lamps outside and brought us blankets with our cocktails). We ended up coming back after dinner for a night cap and some dessert and were furthermore blessed with delicious cocktails and some amazing flourless chocolate cake and lemon bar style cookies. I couldn't have asked for anything more from a swanky cocktail bar and Elsie's Daughter absolutely nails it!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful! A+ for food, beverages, service and ambience. Love the vibe and covered patio!

Al H.

Yelp
We stopped by Elsie's Daughter while in Chattanooga for a few hours. Cool little spot. Had cool furniture and wall art. We did not have a reservation, and regardless of a fairly full evening, they sat us anyway. The cheesecake was good. The plates that went by us looked good as well. Service was a bit slow. Only had one or two people working the floor, but still a great experience.
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
The whole experience here was fantastic. We ordered a couple plates to share that were all delicious and two cocktails that were good as well. The service was great, we never had to wait for anything that we needed and our waters were always full and table bussed as needed. The dining area is very pretty, if the weather is nice then take advantage of their beautiful patio. For the money I don't think we could have had a better eating experience in Chattanooga. I would definitely revisit and recommend to others.

Yelp
The ambiance is absolutely beautiful but unfortunately the food felt short. The charcuterie board is NOT the pictures online. Serving size is very small for price tag in my opinion. Drinks were okay. Probably would skip next time. Service was fine as well.

Ishmael L.

Yelp
Ambiance: nice. It's a cool vibe. Food: we've only ever had a few small plates, and they were all very good. Service: we've only been in a few times. The first few times about a year ago, service was at the bar, and it was great. Fantastic cocktails too. The past two times at the bar, our experience has been ruined by the miserable bartender. She makes a fair cocktail, but she is not meant for customer service. As someone who makes their living on tips, you'd think she'd be more pleasant to the customers. Nope. If we're in the area, we'll be sure to dip our heads in. If she's still working, we'll be sure to take our time and money elsewhere.

Michelle B.

Yelp
This is a must place to eat! We visited this restaurant on April 2nd right before dinner time and it did NOT disappoint! We ordered the crab dip, the fall salad and bistro filet. It was amazing! One of the best meals we have had in a very long time. The staff was just as amazing. We were told by the manager Jordan that they had just hired a brand new chef and it was his first day. I recommend you keep him! Thank You for being so kind and we will be back one day!

Lori B.

Yelp
Hidden gem in Chattanooga. It feels like you are entering a prohibition speakeasy. Excellent selection of drinks, food menu is not overwhelming and service is exceptional.

James B.

Yelp
It is a bit chaotic on a Friday night. The hostess is amazing. The server though is scattered, doesn't pay attention to the tables as if he is constantly in the weeds. Getting his attention was very hard and then would only stop by for a second. Otherwise, great ambiance inside. Sat outside for a minute and the table behind us was shouting, screaming and annoying. Luckily, the hostess moved us inside. Seems like our server is the only one, handling 15-20 tables. Too much to pay the attention needed per table. Food was good.
google avatar

Dina M.

Yelp
What a lovely hidden gem! We enjoyed a perfect brunch there ! Service was amazing and Can not wait to return to this beautiful restaurant
google avatar

Kate D.

Yelp
they canceled my reservation I made saying they were busy during that time. we went anyway and there was hardly anyone there. it was pouring outside and they have to bring your food from a kitchen outside which soaked some of our food. they accidentally gave our food to another table which sat there for awhile until those guests found a server. they gave us the food which was cold by then (and wet from the rain). Drinks were wrong as well.

Tess H.

Yelp
Ugh i just love this little place. If I could bottle the aesthetic and put it in my pocket I would. Such cute little drinks and dessert I will drive across town for.

Heidi J.

Yelp
This restaurant and bar is absolutely gorgeous! Sarah, the bartender is super personable and friendly. She makes the best Old Fashions in town.

Kimberly S.

Yelp
We stayed at the Hotel Chalet so thought we'd grab a drink here one evening. Would say it was just ok. We had better drinks other places in town.

Caroline J.

Yelp
Service was very good! Baija H did a fantastic job! Very attentive and kind. Nice ambiance too.
google avatar

Gwen G.

Yelp
This place is absolutely gorgeous. The ambience is an ethereal 1920's vibe with indoor and outdoor seating. My party loved every drink, and as a person who is picky the bar was quick to make a something off menu to fit my tastes! Would recommend

Oly O.

Yelp
It's good but not excellent. We did not eat, but we looked at the menu. It's not really a restaurant with a menu--it's more of a bar with a few food items. The drinks were good but it took forever to get them and the place was almost empty. Why does Tennessee charge a 24% tax on alcohol? Everyone talks about the wonderful atmosphere. I guess my expectations were too high as I did not see that.

Marlee E.

Yelp
Baija was so sweet! She made sure to check in on us and was just a delight. Thanks for great service!

Lina P.

Yelp
Great place for a meal, drinks and nice environment. Chattanooga is moving on up. The food was great!
google avatar

Derek E.

Yelp
Food was ok...nothing to rave over....ambiance is nice...our waitress was nice but never came back after serving drinks and food.

The B T.

Yelp
We had drinks at the bar, service was good but the wine options are pathetic. The place has a very liberal vibe, nothing special. So many better options in the area

Tyler C.

Yelp
Surprisingly great food. Sat on the patio with my daughter and everyone was very attentive and kind. Get the martini, it's unreal.
google avatar

Leigh G.

Yelp
Stumbled randomly across this restaurant and couldn't be happier we did. The restaurant is in an old historic building and the food and service was top notch. They have a cute garden patio and great drinks with friendly bartenders.

Elisa L.

Yelp
horrific service. ignores customers and makes it hard to place an order, get a check, etc. pretty but horrible service.

Karen A.

Yelp
The atmosphere is adorable, food is very foo foo with tiny portions. Tapas style. Very pricey for what you get. Waiter was great!

Patrick T.

Yelp
Read the menu before you go. Everything is a la carte even those it doesn't say that. There are no meals, sides, appetizers. Maybe I'm just crazy expecting an expensive restaurant to serve whole meals. The teres major is a steak, maybe 4-5oz and smothered in so much stuff you can't tell what it is. Royale with cheese is a burger a la Pulp Fiction. Idk who came up with that but if I was trying to sell upscale I wouldn't compare myself to McDonald's. The burger tasted good but $15 without any sides, come on. Smashed potatoes were fried potatoes burnt to a crisp. Sauce on top was pretty good. Do yourself a favor and walk around the corner to literally any other restaurant. Terrible place for groups, no large tables and they don't split checks.

Nirav J.

Yelp
Great drinks, amazing vibe and fantastic for meeting people in a small, intimate setting.

Allyson H.

Yelp
Great ambiance and cocktails! Service was fantastic! Super cute spot located in a neat hotel.

Yelp
My husband and I were fortunate enough to have a most delicious meal at this beautiful restaurant, Elsie's Daughter, nestled perfectly behind the gorgeous Chalet Hotel. As we walked through the beautiful outside seating/eating area (it was too cold to eat outside), we felt like we were in an Italian village...just beautiful. As we went inside the restaurant, we were greeted by their hostess, who made us feel so welcomed that we felt like family. We were seated right away. The impeccable service was exceptional. Smiles all around....did we need this..did we need that...what would you like.....And the food. Oh My Lanta! Everything sounded so good on the menu that we had a very hard time choosing. We ordered our entrees, an appetizer and a side dish - all so delicious. We've never had a better meal. My husband was happy with his sparkling water, but I treated myself to a decadent Espresso Martini! Soooo gooood. We cannot WAIT to come back up there in a few months where we plan to live out our retirement years. Thank you Elsie's daughter for a wonderful night. Oh, and we really like your new Sous Chef, Matty :) Joanne and Tim Machula, St. Augustine (soon to be Chattanoogans)

David D.

Yelp
This gem is tucked away off Main Street. The food is amazing, and the service is excellent. I recommend getting reservations. This is a wonderful addition to the Chattanooga food scene. The chef is creative. The food and cocktails are both so good!

Julie W.

Yelp
This place is new, had a great unique vibe, too bad it's not located near where we live as we would love to go back when it's warmer. The indoor area was smaller, dark and intimate for dates. The outdoor area looks so inviting and the drinks were unique and very good. Great place and service.

Rdg R.

Yelp
It's a little bit difficult to find due to poor signage from the hotel. The food was absolutely outstanding. The service was good how vet the bartenders could use a little refreshing in customer service. I felt like I was a burden sitting at the bar eating. It's definitely worth the trip I suggest the muscles and the steak.

Kalyn R.

Yelp
Excellent food and cocktails. Kyle was a great server! Definitely try the bone marrow, oysters, and the chicken.

Jon K.

Yelp
Love this place! Limited menu but everything i spectacular! Especially like the mussels! Drinks are great and the service can't be beat!
