My wife and I thought this place was wonderful! It sits right on the lake, with no automobile traffic nearby. Each room has a balcony that you can sit on overlooking the lake. No bad rooms. The rooms aren't huge or fancy, but they are very pleasant and our bathroom was full sized. No AC (welcome to Europe), but the balcony double doors provided plenty of cooling in the evenings. ||Good little swimming platform and sunbathing area with lounge chairs. We swam each day. ||I loved the restaurant. The setting is basically the best you'll find anywhere on the lake - I can't imagine a better spot. My pasta and pizza were very, very good, and the wine by the class was reasonably priced. Breakfast included cheese, bread, jam, fruit, muesli, yogurt, and five-minute eggs. Nothing lavish, but eating by the lake in the morning was a pretty great experience nonetheless. ||ONE BIG CAVEAT: this place is hard to get to. We tried to take the bus from the train station, and we walked for many kilometers before finding it. Definitely would take a taxi next time. Only a walking path leads to the hotel, so even with a cab, you're walking for ten minutes with your luggage. The Lugano boats do drop off right at the hotel dock, but they run every two hours or so and often take 45 minutes to get from Lugano to the hotel. The right play is to eat breakfast at the hotel, take a boat to Lugano mid-morning, do your Lugano thing, then have a boat picked out for the ride home in the afternoon. Spend the afternoon by the lake, and then eat at the hotel or in Gandria. Dinner in Lugano would definitely require a cab and walk to get home. ||My two cents! I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews here - I thought this place was totally charming and idyllic.
