Just finished up on the lovely Elysian Retreat and had an awesome time. We spent 4 nights during Christmas time and I think it definitely was one of the more memorable trips I have had - especially given it was shorter!
Overall the island is beautiful, the weather was pretty good and that likely contributed greatly. It was super hot, but our room had powerful air conditioning and we had lots of water (even though we were told it was not in abundance). It is clear the staff and owners genuinely care a lot about their visitors and this was really evident through how we were treated throughout.
The staff were always attentive, always polite, happy and helpful and not too overbearing. I can’t stress enough, we met several different staff members during our stay and they were all wonderful - not just the front of house staff but truly everyone was awesome to be around. I wanted to shoutout the yoga instructor (sorry I am bad with names) - she even helped us to get comfortable with snorkelling which was really generous and made our first time really fun.
Speaking of which - snorkelling right off the beach at low tide was really fun and we saw a ray, reef shark and of course lots of coral and fish!
The food was also awesome. The dinners, particularly the mains, were all amazingly constructed and considering every single day had a completely different dish - I was surprised how tasty every single meal was to say the least. Perhaps my taste is not as mature as some but having been to lots of lovely restaurants, I can safely say the meals were consistently high quality. Not sure where the chefs were trained but I think the retreat is lucky to have them, they contributed greatly to our happiness haha!!
The snorkelling trip (Whitehaven beach) we went on was also really awesome - I definitely got scorched and hurt my ear a little bit, but nonetheless we had an awesome time and I would certainly do it again - perhaps not be as bold with my diving haha 😂
If I had to give some constructive feedback here are a few small things - that didn’t really impact our stay, but maybe would impact other people’s stays.
- The beds and general shape of the room was really nice, the staff did good to clean up the bathroom and bed but I did notice the floor perhaps needed a bit of a mop and a vacuum - it wasn’t super dirty but wasn’t cleaned it seemed.
- I noticed sometimes admin things were perhaps not managed effectively. In particular I had to remind the staff a few times about requests we had - for example the Whitehaven trip we asked about on the first day we arrived but we had to ask a few more times to understand what was possible before we got it solidified. Again - this was fine in the grand scheme, but I’m sure some people might take issue with that.
- I did notice some smaller things in the rooms too. The bathroom door handle for example was really broken - hanging on for dear life haha - thankfully it was just my fiancée and I so that wasn’t too much of an issue. I also noted the lighting in the rooms was intimate but maybe could do with some power efficient LED bulbs to help improve visibility at night.
I want to highlight. These are small things, the stay was wonderful and I felt well and truly at home and as if everything was being done for me from the moment we stepped on and off the wharf at Daydream island! This is not an experience I have had even at well known 5 star hotels. The resort truly is all inclusive and I highly recommend it.
