It was a Ghanan Holiday??!
Was going to apply for a regular service Student Visa for the spring semester, gave myself roughly three weeks in the States, and was going to apply for my visa as soon as I could once I arrived. So, I had this all planned out, I had to drive from North Carolina to DC (because I don't trust the horror stories from other reviews), roughly 5 hours. As anxious and worried as I become, I checked the website about half a dozen times before leaving early, early morning on Monday, January 7th. Upon arrival at ~9:15, I exited my car, and to my horror, found a taped piece of paper on the front gate stating their closure for the day, in observance of a Ghanan Holiday. I angrily went home (another 5 hours). Nowhere on the site was there a warning about this closure. I would have never thought to look up Ghanan holidays and wonder if they would be open. No way could this have been avoided on my part, only on the part of the Embassy. There was a pop-up reminder for the observance of Christmas and New Year's holidays, so I wonder why this update was made to the website and not the Ghanan holiday that Americans wouldn't know to observe. I did not call or email in advance, mainly because of all the negative reviews around these actions. I am, however, planning on going to the NY Consulate, and they have appointment slots (and an online chat option, and someone responded to me when the chat was "online" during working hours), so if you are debating between the two for any paperwork, as of now I recommend the NY location. Two stars because I wasn't able to see anyone to judge the service, but that was the main problem. Can't really blame them for taking a holiday, but I can blame them for not telling me about it.
