Perfect five star location for a family vacation to Chicago. Central to so many restaurants, parks, museums, the Riverwalk and more. This upped the stars from a 3 to a 4.
Fairly quiet during St. Patrick's Day weekend, but hotel still had a fun festive feel. Green drinks included green lemonade for the complimentary Happy Hour. They even had a man in a kilt playing the bagpipes.
Rooms are the standard for Embassy Suites. The bedroom had two double beds. Nice to have a sink in the bedroom. The living room had a kitchenette with a microwave, mini fridge and a sink. The sleeper sofa in that room was not comfortable at all...so thin, like a camping mat, that you could feel and hear the springs as you moved.
Breakfast was standard fare and exactly the same for the five days of our trip-cooked to order eggs, oatmeal bar, hash browns, biscuits, pancakes, breakfast meats, dry cereal and apples and oranges. One day they did have cut up honeydew and cantaloupe. Would have been nice to have a little variety. (Breakfast buffet at the DoubleTree was much better).
Happy Hour was the most efficient that I have ever seen. They quickly served patrons in a double roped off line. The snacks were good only on one night where they had cut up veggies(cucumbers, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots), pita, a salad and hummus. The other days were ruffles and three kinds of dips.(Best Happy Hour Menu at an Embassy Suites-Portland, OR).
The best part about the stay was the people, though. Thanks to Dinah for checking us in after we got bumped to the DoubleTree as we tried to check in at 1 AM after a long flight. She was so friendly and cheerful. The porters, William and Dwayne, greeted us every morning, afternoon and evening. Thanks for making us feel welcome.
There is also an indoor pool that was packed every time we walked by.
