Wow, I'm really saddened to read the negative reviews on here... I honestly couldn't disagree more with them. This is precisely why I try to review all of my favorite places, as low ratings can unfairly skew an entire place's reputation.
This said... In my opinion, and as an insider (I volunteer with ECPR), I am consistently amazed by how involved and empathetic the staff is. I've had nothing but great experiences contacting and meeting with the organization's many coordinators (i.e., departments in volunteering, foster care, adoption). The people who work here REALLY care about the safety and well-being of all animals, and they deserve the jobs they have because they're involved to the utmost extent. From what I've seen, everyone here goes above and beyond.
And the review regarding a "torture room," well... I just don't get that one. The animals here are treated far better than most other shelters I've seen/heard of.
And because I am an insider, I want to give you a bit of a sneak peek at what ECPR stands for and does!
This shelter rescues -- almost exclusively -- dogs from high-kill shelters, both in- and out of state. The dogs are welcomed, fully vetted and cared for, and fostered whenever that appears to be a need. Because ECPR cares so deeply for their pets, the adoption process is, indeed, a process: it requires 3-4 steps.
As a volunteer, I socialize the dogs. This is my job: to literally cuddle and play with the animals. The dogs are out of their crates for the day, with the exception of feeding times, and overnight.
I hope this gives you, the reader, a brighter perspective of what ECPR is all about. It consists of activists who really care about, and defend, the rights of animals. Stay tuned for ECPR's expansion in the new year, too!
