I recently attended an "Emerald estate sale", which was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The items were well-curated and displayed, very organized making finding what I was looking for easy. The pricing was fair, and the staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and ready to help. They truly went above and beyond to create a smooth, enjoyable shopping environment. I would highly recommend Emerald Estate Sale to everyone looking for a top-notch estate sale experience!

These auctioneers are horrible. They don’t care about other peoples lawns, or private property. They actually tell people to park on private property and to destroy their lawn. Horrible employees, customer service and general disregard for others property. Do not recommend, do not use. I wish I could give 0 stars. 1/15/2025 Add to edit 2 years later. Stop lying. You put your hands on me pushing me physically out the door and I will never forget. The police came and made everyone move. Unlike you I am well educated on the boundaries of my home. I have been living here for over 11 years and not 1x has the county cut our grass. The fire hydrant is on my property, I even get an insurance policy discount. Like I stated, you violated my property you physically pushed me. As the home owner you were working for was sitting in my house crying because you violated the entire neighborhood. Blocked all my neighbors from getting out of their driveways. Getting property plats is free before you go destroying others property. You could have just apologized not double down on you allowing destruction peoples property. I will be sending this again to the BBB. You’re a disgrace of a man.

Emeralds just hosted an estate sale for us and they did a great job. They were very professional, polite and helpful. They explained the whole process to us, were flexible when we changed our minds about some items we wanted to sell, didn’t do any damage to the walls or paint when removing heavy/bulky furniture and removed everything when the sale was over. We received a very complete accounting of all items sold. Eric Burds, the project manager, and his staff including Paula and Lucas, weee great to work with. Highly recommend.

Google
Emerald Estate Sales is one of the top 3 professional estate sale companies in the DMV. All of the employees go out of their way to make sure we find exactly what we wanted. Eric, Lucas and Paula are always excellent at communicating with us so we can enjoy shopping while also getting high value items from furniture to cooking items to gardening pots and everything in between. Prices are fair and always in line with the market. They have their clients and customers best interest at heart. ❤️ They seem to have the most estate sales out of any other company and we know that’s bc clients appreciate their professionalism and honesty. If we were going to have an estate sale, we would definitely call Emerald. We highly recommend. 👍👍😊

As soon as you get there, I could tell how high the standards of this company held with their items and customers. The way they laid out their inventory was in a very professional manner. I had the chance to meet Eric the owner and was very impressed with how he handles the sales. He not only helped assist me but at the same time coordinate the items going to auction. Such a smooth and professional experience I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of there sales to come in the DMV. Thank you again!

Google
I wish I could give Emerald 10 stars! I’ve had varied experiences with many different estate sale companies (some who are not so nice) and with Emerald I always find a gem! More than the beautiful pieces I’ve gotten from their sales, their customer service is a cut above the rest. All of the staff is courteous and knowledgeable and always willing to help. I highly recommend Emerald to anyone who loves estate sales, fair prices, and fantastic customer service. Thanks again Emerald!

Google
Terribly organized sales, keep people waiting in cold for sales with no explaination. Will let a handful of people into a very large house. rude and will hang up on you when you ask what’s going on. Avoid at all costs, the worst estate company in the area. Update: owner? waited 5 years to respond and decided to be insulting and sarcastic - hard to believe this is an actual business.

I used to go to estate sales nearly every weekend, so when I needed to get rid of my "stuff" for an upcoming move out of state, I chose my favorite company, Emerald Estate Sales. As a buyer, I noticed how efficiently their sales were run. Everything is neatly displayed and priced. The workers are professional and friendly and it was always a pleasant experience to visit an Emerald Sale. So, I expected good service. Well, I was completely blown away! From the 1st phone call, I spoke to Peggy Burds (she's the head honcho), who coordinated the timing of the sale. Eric, her son came to the house and assessed what we had to sell explained how the process works and the various options available and other details. I can't say enough good things about him since he is truly a great individual personally and professionally. About 5 or 6 days prior to the sale the crew came to prepare. Paula, Olga, Casey, Lucas and Mason worked so hard to get everything perfect. They, along with Peggy and Eric treated my husband and I like we were family members. We were treated with respect and care in a time that was very emotional for us. Because of their expertise, hard work, and care, we had a VERY SUCCESSFUL sale. We could not have possibly done better. Our home was cleared out and cleaned. Emerald Estate Sales is run by honest, dependable, no-nonsense people. If only everyone could be like them...

Yelp
I go to a sale in DC. Good social distance. The man Eric give me fair price art. Cashier lady Carrie nice to help me wrap the purchase

Yelp
Maybe it's Yelp being Yelp, but honestly, really surprised by the negative reviews. I've had nothing but good experiences with Emerald. I've been to a few dozen estate sales over the past few years and never had as good a customer experience before, during AND after the sale than with Emerald. Prices were reasonable and the crew were kind but most importantly they were super helpful as they helped me move the actual items. Can't say it enough but I had a really great experience.

Yelp
I'm leaving this review as a buyer. Looking for the sale, there was absolutely no signage, with the exception of a tiny sign on the steps of the house. I entered the sale with the immediate impression that this was a "pop-up" Georgetown retail antique store, with heavily inflated prices on everything, including pieces that still had the "owner's" original discounted tag on the bottom. I have money to spend, but I'm not going to drop $2,000 on a vase. The employees were cold, and I left the sale empty handed and disappointed. I won't be attending any more Emerald Estate Sales!

Yelp
I was on one if her Estate Sale, found a rug that I like and priced at a whooping 1.5k (Really? For 5x8?) so, I like it anyway and was going to make a Market offer of between $600-$700 as the following day will be discounted anyway. Before I can even make an offer, Lady already said that the price is as marked and will not be discounted (really???) I explained that she have an hour left and would save me the trip coming back. She then just said NO! Is that how you do business? Think again! Terrible in so many ways! Attitude problem or anger management? I don't know!? The lady who I think was the Owner lacks personality. Yes, staff is also terrible! Very unorganized and prices are totally ridiculous! Don't waste your time coming! You'll get robbed and worst you'll get the free attitude. I don't think they even know that they are selling used merchandise? I feel so bad for your clientele expecting a good profit.

Yelp
Great experience. Very professional and friendly. Not being experienced when it comes to estate sales, they made everything very easy. Would definitely recommend Peggy and her team.

Yelp
If I could give this company a zero, I would. The sale was almost the worst experience I've ever had... a total nightmare. I trusted Peggy, but she taught me not to trust even a friend. I now wish that we would have donated our stuff and taken the tax break. The pricing was all over the board, one of the workers was very rude to a customer and the way Peggy treated us afterwards was totally unexceptable. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!

Yelp
Wish I had checked reviews first... Terrible experience with Peggy Burd and Emerald Estate Sales. Contracted for a sale at my home in Great Falls, beofre my move in August. First, she asked for the agreed date to be moved back by two weeks, then she sent people who barely spoke english, who priced everything in the house, with no relation to real value. Some paintings were priced below the value of frames, other things priced way too high. Bedroom suite priced late, and then way too high, so none of it sold. The result: Even though Peggy assured me my house contents would bring at least 10,000 after walking through the house, the sale only grossed 5,000, and she took 3,000 of that-- her minimum. Because the sale was delayed, it was too late to do anything else, and so much good stuff was just discarded. Terrible experience, unprofessional, disorganized, and poor communication from start to finish. Find someone else!!

Yelp
Used this company for an estate sale 8/14. They showed up a day later then they said to prep. Some sale items disappeared &/or were not accounted for. Some plants were dug up & a bird feeder was taken out of it's concrete base. Floors were scratched removing what didn't sell( were patched when pointed out). Mirrors & glass shelves were broken & some fragments were left behind. I had to make numerous calls to get the rest of what didn't sell to be removed. Most of all the charity statement they furnished is not legally useful because it is not itemized & priced as required for large amounts, or dated & signed by anybody from that organization. They are very disorganized. Even now I still have not gotten back the house key. (a month later)

Yelp
The employees are the coldest, most unfriendly people I have ever dealt with. I have gone to several sales and have spent money so you would think they would be happy. Each time I go I hear people outside in the yard complaining about how awful the experience was and how they are never going back, so it is not just me. They do not deserve my money.

Yelp
Wow, what a bad experience. Disorganized and a serious lack of communication. The employees running the sale do not have a firm grasp of English and the owner does not seem to be able to effectively communicate with them either - that or she just doesn't care. I was disappointed with the sloppy pictures presented on the website - they were taken before the estate was staged. There was clutter everywhere in the pictures. They were running another sale the same weekend in the opposite end of the county so I think resources were spread thin. I requested that craigslist be used for advertising. I found a very sloppy ad for the other sale after I requested one but none for mine... so I ended up creating my own ad. The owner seemed clueless about what her employees where doing. Things disappeared during the sale and after the sale. After the sale I told the owner I was rethinking donating some of the items left - we agreed that I would tag the items the next weekend before charity came to get what was left. When I returned to the house the next weekend, I found that the very items I told her I wanted to keep were gone - and charity had not arrived yet. The employees had access to the house to allow buyers from the sale to pick up furniture. The explanation I got was that the buyers picking up furniture decided to buy the items... yet I never received receipts for those items. Another problem was that I had one bedroom set aside to store items I did not want to sell. The owner had asked me if she could bring some antiques to my sale and I agreed. Her employees set up my storage/do not sell room with antiques! Therefore the items I didn't intend to sell were strewn throughout the house and some of the items got sold before I found the mistake. One of the items was a pair of 6 month old $5000 hearing aids that got sold for 5 dollars. I still lose sleep over that. I felt that items were way under priced and all in all, a huge house that was jam packed with furniture and a lifetime of stuff only brought a total sale of $5500, $3000 of which was paid to Emerald Estate Sales. There is no accounting of items before the sale - your "inventory" of items consists of the hand written receipts your receive after the sale. The receipts do not, in most cases even give you a good idea of what was sold.
