On the Grid : Emerson Avenue Community Garden

"This volunteer-run garden gives back to the community in many ways. Located on the campus of Orville Wright Middle School, it operates after school hours and on weekends. In addition to granting local residents their very own plot to tend, they offer public programs including guided meditations, senior tours, summer outdoor movies, and regular storytime hour for kids in the garden. You can also find them at their booth at the Wednesday Westchester Farmers' Market." - Studio Beylin

There for a memorial for a friend. She actually started the native plant garden!

EACG is more committed to obeying rules than they are to being egalitarian, inclusive, or just. Managment is unbelievably litigious and lacks human compassion. A handful of people in power are sucking the sense of "community" out of the community garden. They will cite you for having weeds, regardless of if you just gave birth, your husband died, or you have been working long hours. A propper community would offer to help those that need help, but instead, they will outcast you for being imperfect. I must add that your plot neighbors will be lovely and there are many beautiful relationships to be made. They have fun community events, but... ... I've gardened here for 4 years and I have finally had enough with it's poisonous managment.

100% Volunteer run. EACGC offers many free classes to the public that better the local ecological environment, coordinates with many local organizations allowing access and hands-on learning opportunities for underprivileged youth, creates its on compost, and hosts the annual Westchester Arts & Music (WAM) Festival a free event that brings thousands of locals together to share arts. Plotholders are held responsible for tidy plots and all produce is organic. Friendly people.

I called to get a plot for my girl scout troop and we had contact with a live person right away to help us through the project. Thank you so much for supporting our troop!

To the haters: What do you mean by management?!? It's a community co-op. Want someting different? Be the change you seek. Volunteer for the board (usually a thankless job) and make a difference in how it behaves .This endless sense or "other" keeping us down is the bedrock of the divisive society we find ourselves in.

Yelp
I love this community garden and I can't wait to go back. It's the first one I've seen that draws so many hummingbirds! And they're not shy around people. You can see them up close. They've done a great job here with pollinator plants and wildflowers. They put up signs so you can learn about some of the plants.
