Emiliano Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"How did it strike you on arrival? The exterior is a little odd, with all sorts of folds and windows, but indoors is super chic: There is a Burle Marx-inspired vertical garden, midcentury Modern chairs and sofas and a chic brass bar. It feels like the perfect middle ground between the classic scene at the Belmond Copacabana Palace to the north, and the excessive party vibe at the Fasano, just south. Nice. What’s the crowd like? Chic, sophisticated travelers with excellent taste. Maybe architects, designers and those wanting a subtle, tasteful scene The good stuff: Tell us about your room. My room was large and very comfortable, with lovely touches like plants and plump white sofas that make it feel like your own sophisticated beach side apartment. Plus, they had huge showers and bathtubs, and pillowy robes to lounge in on those couches after a day spent on the beach. Room service: Worth it? If room service was comprised of baskets and baskets of the delicious pan do queijo , a Brazilian cheese bread you order at breakfast, you'd be very, very happy. But just go downstairs and do the whole breakfast: healthful bowls of cool acai with grains and nuts, the freshest green juice and that wonderful cheese bread, served warm, is the most perfect start to the day. The breakfast salon has vertical gardens and skylights. How were the staff? Here's one negative: the wi-fi was shoddy at best. The staff, however, were exceedingly apologetic and tried to trouble shoot by letting guests access their laptops. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. Beach access is great—it's right across the street from the southern part of Copacabana Beach, next to Ipanema—and the rooftop pool is super chic. Unlike Copacabana Palace, the pool gets sun all day long (and the bartenders up there mix a mean caprioska ). The spa is a knock-out, too. Bottom line: worth it, and why? This hotel is a welcome new opening and pace on Rio's Zona Sul. It's more subtle and modern to contrast the go-go party scene of the Fasano, yet without the sometimes stiffness of the Copacabana Palace. It feels young and sophisticated, and revives the more dated northern part of Zona Sul, yet it is close to Ipanema and Leblon."

We are baffled by some of the previous reviews as our experience in this unique hotel was the perfect, luxurious, end to our trip around South America. Firstly, our ocean room was stunning, with an amazing view of the beach from the balcony, spotlessly clean, spacious and bright. We loved the unique bathroom and even the ultra technical loo! Bottled water was in plentiful supply and each evening beautiful homemade treats were left for us. The complimentary Havaianas were put to good use! ||The rooftop bar/pool is a lovely area for relaxing and the amazing conservatory breakfast is great (even though not included) - you can have as much as you like from the varied al la carte options and the quality is excellent. Particularly recommend the brioche French toast - absolutely delicious! ||Our experience of the staff at this hotel, be it reception, cleaners, pool/bar, breakfast or concierges, was excellent. We found them very friendly, professional and extremely helpful, aiming to provide the best service at all times. ||The only small area for improvement would be the charging for coffee in the room. Not sure if this is customary in Brazil but we have never come across this in any hotel stay around the world previously. It seems a bit silly when you are already paying a premium price. ||We definitely made the right decision to stay in this hotel during our time in Rio and are so glad we ignored some of the previous reviews. Definitely splurge on an ocean room if possible!

This was truly a luxury hotel experience!! The staff was super attentive and very efficient. Special mention to Cissa - the experience manager - who personified the warmth and hospitality you would want from a top hotel (but rarely ever get). The breakfast was perfect and we ate several times in the restaurant- always delicious. The ocean view is more than worth it - truly spectacular location. Its not inexpensive- but at least it was definitely worth it.

Google
Our rooms at the Emiliano had a spectacular view of Copacabana Beach, they were spacious and comfortable. We loved the extras such as a daily treat delivered to our rooms late each afternoon, the fruit when we arrived, and the delicious breakfasts. The gym, sauna, and steam overlooked the beach and provided a quiet respite from a busy day of touring. We enjoyed the luxury of the Emiliano and highly recommend it!

The hotel is excellent, superbly located, with large balconies. Impeccable cleanliness. Wonderful, friendly service. You feel like a guest, not a hotel customer. The breakfasts couldn't be better. They are served, but the staff will fulfil your every wish. The terrace on the 12th floor and the balconies offer a beautiful view of Copacabana and Sugarloaf Mountain. In the room, there is a spacious bathroom with a large wardrobe and a huge safe. Every day, when we returned to our room, we found small snacks and sweets prepared especially for us. On our special day, we received a bottle of wine. To sum up, the stay was fantastic. The hotel is worth recommending.

Google
Priced like a 5 star but expect a 3 star experience. The staff itself is very good and of course the location and design is very cool. But the condition of the hotel is poor. So many things were broken in the room and in common areas that clearly need renovation and upkeep. It seems like they spent a lot of money when opening and haven't touched it since. Lots of cheap fixes to things in the room like sloppy paint jobs, loose things, leaks patched up around the ac etc. the rooftop pool was broken and had a hose in it the whole time because it must be leaking. stains on the furniture in the room. the rooftop area wood all needed to be re-stained long ago. when ordering food at the pool it took forever, though when it came it was good. Restaurant on 1st floor was good. Would not stay again at $700 USD/night. The place needs TLC.

From the moment we arrived at Hotel Emiliano, we knew we were in for something truly special. This is not just a luxury hotel it’s a carefully curated experience designed to make you feel completely at home, only better in every way. Every detail exceeded our expectations. The service was flawless, warm, professional, and genuinely dedicated to our comfort. The cleanliness was impeccable, and the food… absolutely delicious. From breakfast to the thoughtful treats left in our room daily, everything was prepared with love and excellence. One of the little things that truly wowed us was the heated toilet it might sound small, but it made a surprisingly big difference in comfort. It was simply out of this world. We also loved the beach service, which was so convenient and beautifully managed, and the complimentary Havaianas such a thoughtful gift that instantly became one of our favorite keepsakes from the trip. Special thanks to Julio, who was always incredibly helpful, and to Eduardo, who provided the most attentive and kind service at breakfast each morning. They made our stay even more memorable. Thank you, Emiliano, for going above and beyond in every possible way. We leave with full hearts and can’t wait to return. Truly a gem in the heart of Brazil.

We had a lovely stay at the Emiliano as a family. The service was wonderful. Henry and Leon were incredibly helpful during our stay. The view from the pool is spectacular and the location is hard to beat. The hotel was also very accommodating to the fact that we had a baby which was great.

Google
I really, really want to have enjoyed my stay here; the hotel is stunning - in a perfect location and with an ocean view room, truly beautiful. Based on just the property, I would give this hotel 5 stars. However, the service was so awful that I couldn’t in good conscience spend my money here again.||The staff’s attention on WhatsApp is nonexistent, taking hours to respond to simple questions despite instructing us to communicate via WhatsApp. Their ability to communicate over the phone using our stay was terrible—often being transferred multiple times and waiting on hold for 10+ minutes to speak with someone. And in person was somehow almost worse, even simple requests were often met with disdain. And to be clear, our requests were well within what they advertise as offered services— room service, food or drink by the pool, or helping to make reservations. While cleaning our room for checkout, we discovered multiple things left behind by prior occupants, including a large used bag of drugs. When we mentioned these issues to the front desk, their response was to scold us for not bringing up these issues earlier in our (three day) stay. The only “compensation” offered was allowing us to use a different room after checkout until our flight later the same day. Go stay somewhere else just as beautiful for the price. Either do better or don’t pretend this is a 5 star hotel.

Yelp
A great, unforgettable experience. If you are looking for a hotel in Copacabana, this is it. The rooms are so cozy and comfortable, and they're very spacious. My favorite part was the shower/tub. I loved unwinding with an aromatic bubble bath in the evenings. My only complaint however, is that their faucets and shower head filters clearly haven't been changed in a long time. The shower water spews in every direction with poor water pressure, as does the sink. The sink also kept clogging. My boyfriend was personally a fan of the toilet (ha!) which had a heated seat and dryer. The bed was dreamy, and thanks the pillow menu, I even found a pillow for my debilitating neck pain. The welcome treats were appreciated, as were the nightly desserts. Finally, the pool deck has the best views of the Rio and provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city below.

Yelp
Emiliano Rio provides an unparalleled experience in the heart of Copacabana. The rooftop pool's breathtaking view of the beach is complemented by the Michelin-reviewed Emile restaurant on-site. The shower's water pressure is a standout feature (things I find important ), and daily room snacks add a thoughtful touch. With meticulous attention to detail, Emiliano Rio seamlessly combines luxury, exclusivity, and Brazilian sophistication. An amazing stay where no detail is forgotten. Facts: 1. Gym is small but has everything you need for a vacation gym. 2. There is food service at the pool. 3. Bottled water is provided every day. 4. Rooms are updated. 5. Sauna and Steam Room are both complimentary. 6. Beach umbrellas are complimentary. 7. There are plenty of good restaurants within walking. 8. It is safe on Copacabana Beach Strip. 9. They have a spa with an array of services.

Yelp
From arrival at the Emiliano Rio, the staff was courteous, accommodating, and helpful. Special shout outs to Brandon, Leon, Fonseco, and Hugo. Brandon at the front desk concierge was helpful in securing a prime restaurant reservation, and transportation/tickets for visiting Christ the Redeemer. Leon welcomed us and gave a great tour of the hotel upon our arrival. Fonseco also welcomed us and was just an all-around joy. Hugo was incredible helpful at the beach and the hotel's beach service was stellar. Wonderful and restful trip. Much more than just a beautiful hotel, the staff takes the Emiliano to another level. Thank you!

Yelp
Great location if you want to experience Copacabana and the rooftop pool & restaurant is a big reason to stay here. The hotel overlooks the beach and you get to experience Copa peaceful instead of being mixed in with the crazyness of the beach. Service was ok but strangely lacking - no towels one day and service was spotty. Rooms themselves are average and getting one facing the beach is significantly better than the others. Staff were friendly and many speak English. Overall a nice stay and if using Amex FHR, don't expect a room upgrade as the hotel is small but the spa is great a good use of your credit

Yelp
What a marvelous experience. The staff is extremely attentive and welcoming. All of them speak a very good English. At the restaurant, our server, Matias, will always great us using our first name, making us "part of the " family. The other servers remembered what type of juices we liked and would propose them without us asking. The rooms offered an extreme comfort and all the amenities you need during your stay. I loved the Japanese style toilet. Every night, we got different small pastries placed in the room: so delicious. The breakfast menu is a feast. The view from the pool is absolutely beautiful. The spa, the steam room, the sauna, and the gym are undoubtedly great and added to our wonderful experience. My advise: make sure to say when you book that you want a room on the icean.

Naz H.

Yelp
The hotel is very nice in the front. Staff helpful. We reserved a deluxe king Courtyard room. However, What they mean by a courtyard is a neighboring apartment building and dirty, grimey walls. To upgrade they wanted us to pay the same amount we have already paid for our deluxe room (double the cost). I consider this false advertisement and we would have never reserved the room if we knew we would be staring at our naked neighbors.

Yelp
Husband and I stayed at the Emiliano Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and it was the best hotel we ever stayed in our lives! Costumer service is impeccable, we got a hotel tour when we first walked in. The room and views from balcony are amazing, just a couple of meters from Copacabana beach and yet private enough. Food at the restaurant and at the pool area was very tasty. Highly recommend if you want to have a 5 starts experience.
