"Taking a Spin at Glasgow’s Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome This state-of-the-art professional cycling track and stadium, unveiled in 2012, will be one of the key venues when Glasgow hosts the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Between July 23 and August 3, thousands of fans will fill the venue to watch as the world’s fastest cyclists zip around the 250-meter track (made of Siberian pine by Ralph Schuerman, who is to racing tracks what Arnold Palmer is to golf courses). But visiting the velodrome doesn’t have to just be a spectator sport. Year-round, a team of trainers is available here to teach all comers the basics of high-speed track cycling. Emirates Arena is situated opposite Celtic Park, the Emirates Arena is easily accessible via public transport, with Dalmarnock Rail Station nearby and ample cycling facilities, including over 200 bike spaces. The venue is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring elevators, wheelchair access, and clean facilities. Overall Impression The Emirates Arena is a testament to Glasgow’s commitment to providing top-tier sports facilities. Whether you’re attending a major sporting event, participating in fitness classes, or simply exploring the venue, the Emirates Arena offers a dynamic and welcoming environment for all visitors. And it also has a gym in it.

First time and was a good experience. Think this will be a popular venue. Wasn't too bad getting out the car park either.

This is one of a few sports arena in Glasgow city. Lovely place for indoor sporting activities.

Plenty sports options. The badminton court within the Cycling arena is extra nice, I would recommend trying to get this court. The place is usually more busy between 4-8pm, rest of the time it's fairly quiet

Attended a dance event today. I only have this arena 3 stars as firstly the car park was full. Im surprised that such a large venue has such limited parking. Im a disabled driver. No disabled spaces. Was told I could drop off only. I was the only one in the car!!! I then had to drive around the local area to find a space and walk to the venue. Not an easy job. I had to drive round and round as a lot of signs up saying residents only parking. Also on a match day this would have been more of a nightmare as Parkhead football ground across the road. Secondly, the spectators entrance is up 2 flights of stairs. I was not allowed to use the lift as it was only for wheelchair users and people with prams. I luckily can manage stairs with a handrail. I then had to go outside in the rain to go down the same 2 flights of stairs to get to the ground floor cafe area, due to not being allowed on the lift. Thirdly, the toilets were not that clean. Not many cubicles had toilet paper and the handwash stations were empty. This event would have been booked well in advance, so no excuse for not being organised with these things, especially the cleanliness of the toilets. The food in the cafe was very nice. Reasonable prices as well.

Local people clearly are into football, but track and field arena next to famous Celtic stadium is also nice.

Came to the Chris Hoy Velodrome to attempt Level 1 and Level 2 certification. The coaches here did a great job of instruction and technique training. Highly recommended! Or just to hear a coach say "drive, drive, drive!"

Parking can get a little tight, but the facility is great for badminton, lights all work, bookings run on schedule, staff friendly and helpful

Yelp
Catching a Glasgow Rocks basketball game at the Emirates is a great experience. Family-friendly, state of the art facilities and conveniently located next to two train stations on the lower level line. The atmosphere during the Rocks games is amazing too! So loud! The food isn't great - bog standard nachos and hot dogs but it does the job I suppose. At £10 for an adult ticket (kids & family discounts available), it's a great way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Yelp
My 1st visit to the arena today was for the gymnastics world cup. I went along with my mum who is a wheelchair user. Parking wise ... it was really easy. There were stewards directing cars to the correct place to park and once we flashed our blue badge we were shown where to go. There is a lift that takes you up to the higher level where the seating area is. However the entrances to the doors are not wheelchair friendly at all and my mums chair kept getting stuck. Once we were inside there were plenty of stewards around to direct us to our seats. We had booked a wheelchair space and companion. This is where i am annoyed. There is a glass panel infront of the seats which is fine but infront of each companion space the brackets that hold the panels together are right in front of eye view so you constantly have to move your head to see whats happening in the arena. Very annoying.

Yelp
I go to the Emirates on a Monday to do a shabam class (dance fitness class) the arena is on the other side of the city from where I live but the teacher who takes the class is crazy and total keeps you going. The centre is big spacious and modern. Lots of changing rooms and plenty of access for disabled people. I was also lucky enough to get tickets to the velodrome during the commonwealth games (where we saw sir Chris Hoy, I couldn't take my eyes of his thighs ) I was warned before going about the extreme temperatures and wore light clothing and took a fan, which was much needed. It was an amazing experience, I didn't have a clue of the rules but it was exhilarating to watch and believe me the New Zealand team in lycra was an added treat.. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
How has no one reviewed this yet?! So I've been to Emirates a few time now and seen the basketball twice (Go Rocks) as well as cycling at the velodrome. I know there's more to Emirates than that, but I feel like I've properly experienced sporting events here and the arena. And wow, it is amazing. It's new, shiny, clean and pretty industrial looking but without an unpleasant cold feeling to it. The events I've been to here are well organised, there are always lots of staff around who are friendly and helpful. On our most recent visit we got a Clyde souvenir for my nephew back in Australia from the gift shop, the guy working there was really friendly and had good chat. I didn't even mind that they don't have card facilities here yet (it's been open at least 6 months) so you get your card put through the old-school manual machines. It made me laugh to be honest, I did feel sorry for him though as he seemed a bit embarrassed. The velodrome has great seating and is a brilliant place to watch cycling - a sport I previously had no interest in whatsoever, but we thought we'd head along to check it out. The basketball is also really good and has great facilities for disabled seating, you still get a really great view even though you're at the back on the top level. The food and drink is reasonably priced too, not like most other sporting events you go to. I can't wait for the Commonwealth Games and will be vying for tickets to as many events as possible, especially here at the Emirates. I noticed when we were leaving the cycling that they had buses to take people back into town. I have no idea if these are free, but they must be quite handy as Emirates could be difficult to get to otherwise (unless by car). Looking at the website, there is also a Glasgow Life gym here and a spa. It pretty much has everything ... apart from card facilities and a cash machine!

Yelp
A superb stadium in the east. Legacy from Commonwealth games and still in use. I love the architecture of this very modern stadium and its great to see the development of the area around the stadium and the use of the space.

Yelp
This has to be the worst gym I have ever visited. Impressive building from the outside and I'm sure they haven't cut costs on the sports halls or velodrome. However, the gym is appalling. Small, lacks a ton of equipment and is filled with (near) useless machines. You would think that such a venue would house a world class gym. Sadly it is quite the opposite. Disappointment/5

Yelp
My boyfriend is a huge basketball fan, so it only seemed natural to buy us tickets to see The Rocks play. Even more, we were just in Manchester, so how perfect was it that we saw The Rocks play the Manchester Giants? So perfect. Emirates Arena is pretty massive. As we walked up to the building, you realise how huge it is when you see that Glasgow Gym has a location located in the building. Not only that, but the Velodrome is also housed in the Emirates Arena, and it so happened that a high school athletics competition was going on in the Velodrome portion of the Arena last night when we were there. We were a bit early, so we were able to check out the competition a bit. For as huge as it is, the Emirates Arena is pretty clean, aside from the lack of toilet paper in the womans toilet, everything else seemed to be pretty clean for how many people were there. There is a consession area where we were able to buy drinks during half time. We were pretty hungry, but didn't buy in to the overpriced hot dogs or nachos (although the only reason we didn't, is because we had plans for dinner after). If waiting in line for food isn't your thing, there are loads of vending machines all around the Arena stocked full of crisps and sweets, juice and water! We had pretty perfect seats. Mid Court, half way up. Not sure if that makes sense, but I was pretty pleased with my choice having no idea how to choose seats or how far away we'd be. The seating was a bit of a tight squeeze with everyone's winter coats about, but no worries, everyone was having a blast, and the buzz kept everyone going. We're going to come back for some cycling events, which should be pretty awesome! This place is pretty neat!

Yelp
Wonderful building with a Gym, Sports Halls, Refresh SPA and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. Great for events such as Glasgow Rocks or Velodrome. There is also a Nextbike Station so it is handy to get to or from if you are a member of the scheme.

Yelp
This is a large indoor sporting arena connected to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome with a large fitness and sports centre for citizens to use too. Big free parking area for use too.
