It's an inexpensive hotel on the beach, and the service is very nice, but those are the only positives. The rooms are quite plain and well-worn. My toilet was leaky and there were gaps between the main door frame and wall, so I could see into the hallway. Two bath towels and a bath mat were supplied, but no wash cloths. Basic and worn, but the view of the beach is great, luckily.

Don’t be fooled by the lobby or exterior—this place is void of any class, comfort, or character. What might seem like a promising stay from the outside quickly unravels the moment you step into your room. The rooms are nothing more than bare, lifeless boxes, stripped of any warmth or thoughtful design. It feels less like a hotel and more like a last-minute crash pad that was thrown together without a second thought. The walls are barren, the lighting is harsh, and the furnishings are as uninspired as they are outdated. The air conditioning is more of a decorative feature than a functional one, offering little more than a distant hum while the room remains stagnant. The bed feels questionably clean, and the single towel provided is stiff enough to make you wonder when it last met fabric softener. What’s most disappointing is the stark contrast between this soulless space and the vibrant, welcoming energy of Puerto Vallarta itself. The city is full of charm, personality, and hospitality—qualities that are painfully absent here. Instead, this place gives off the unsettling aura of a forgotten roadside motel in a place that deserves far better. Would I stay here again? Absolutely not. Would I recommend it? Only if you’re in need of a reality check on what a bad hotel experience feels like.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I paid $234 US for an ocean view suite. I was shown to a ground floor room accessible via a locked gate off the street. Except when I went out the gate was ajar. The balcony which was the reason for booking this particular room, was filthy. The room had a rusty fridge from the 1979’s? I did not feel safe there at all. The sliding door to the balcony did not seem secure||||I asked to move to a higher floor and they refused and said they were full||||Buyer beware. This hotel is not as advertised. It’s a dump, dirty and run down and if you are unlucky to be on the ground floor not secure feeling||||The wifi did not work so my husband found me another hotel and I checked out and forfeited my money. First time ever and I have been to Mexico perhaps a dozen times||||Staff were indifferent to my concerns about safety and said there was no other room for me. They knew I was a solo female traveler and did not seem to care

Google
Positive: We love this hotel! The location and service is amazing! The Si Senore is downstairs and a beach club too. Beautiful view from our room. It is not super upscale it?s casual and laid back and just what we wanted!!!!! We had everything we needed! Negative: ""

Google
DO NOT STAY THERE, please read reviews before booking...it has false advertisement, NO swimming pool as shown on pictures of hotel website...this is an ugly, beat up and very OLD hotel, or whatever that is...doors, windows, walls, floors, curtains, beds, baby's size toilet, sinks EVERYTHING is in ruins, I love rustic or Mexican styles, but this place has none of those things, this place is just OLD, ugly, and super outdated, this needs to be TEARDOWN and rebuild 100%. Not worth paying what I paid, this should be worth $20 dollars per night, for just sleeping and showering. Nothing compare to the pictures online, they do NOT have beach access, the beach access is controlled by the restaurant, the restaurant locks the gate around 3pm to stop people from crossing from Hotel to the beach, and the beach beds are not accessible all the time, the restaurant hugs the little sand area with tables and chairs. I went only one day out of 5 days to the beach and I had to go out of the hotel and around the streets. No suite amenities like a microwave or ice machine, or anything like that, the room had NO decoration at all, it is ashamed that websites rent this types of hotels, come on HOTELS.COM you can do better than this! The room was away from hotel so the TV never worked, they said they could not do anything with the wifi not working due to room been so far away. It was a rip off staying there and paying over 300 per night, I've stayed in Mexico with similar cost at 5 star all-inclusive resorts. Motel SIX is better than this, that's how I can express how this emperador condition is. Im sorry but I have to be honest with the readers looking for a place in zona romantica, you have a better option like Arcos close to this place and get a 100% better room and hotel amenities over all. These are the ONLY good things, the front desk people very friendly (I feel sorry for them working in that kind of hotel) the shower head, OXXO close by and walkable area.

Google
If you are on a strict budget it’s okay.||The front desk attendants were wonderful so I give them five stars!||But the room was beat up with an uncomfortable bed. There was a rusty refrigerator in the room and old stove on the balcony. ||AC didn’t work.||Just not for me and I’m not an extravagant traveler.

Google
Positive: "" Negative: I know its a cheap hotel. But the tvs didnt work, the AC was only able to be either on or off. and the Maid had the never to leave a note threatening me if the sheets cant be cleaned i am responsible for them and would have to pay for them.

Google
Great 4 night stay. The hotel is basic but great views and right on the beach! Staff were friendly and helpful. Would stay here again!

Yelp
Sadly, the Emperador changed all of their ocean view rooms to "family" rooms. The mountain view rooms are very small and face towards a street that is kind of loud until around 2 am, also there is no refrigerator, no sink, no stove. It is literally just a small room with 1 or 2 beds and a tv. I reluctantly will not stay at this hotel again. The price of the family rooms are almost double what they were as a single room.

Bryan D.

Yelp
Very friendly hotel staff. Great housekeeping. The room was very comfortable. The front desk staff made great recommendations for food and would call Taxi services for my girlfriend and I whenever we needed.

Bill B.

Yelp
Check in was friendly (Carlos) and the lobby is beautiful. We asked about tours and Carlos gave us a great discount. Better than we could get from the local tour companies. And we didn't have to tour a timeshare to get the discount! We had a standard ocean view suite and the view was excellent. I'd like to give 5 stars but the room itself is outdated and the bed was rock hard, but good enough for a few nights. This is a great location to walk the Malecon and find some great local food. I recommend this place if you're just looking for a convenient location.

Jennette R.

Yelp
As others have said, its not the fanciest but its the location. The fridge and balcony on the ocean side rooms was handy! You can not beat the location. Yes, you can use their beach lougnes but they pull them at 3:30 which then you have to move to the resturants and purchase something or rent an umberalla. For a full day, I would just go for the umbrealla rental. Staff were super friendly, ac worked great. We were actually able to get Wi-Fi in our room. We would stay again!

Yelp
I knew going into this place to not expect much, and that's exactly what I found. I booked this as a crash pad for one night, and was happy I was only using it for one night. The room is bare-bones and minimum. The bathroom had a weird smell, and a copper mold stain around the toilet that I luckily only found as I was checking out. The A/C worked well (after I climbed on the desk to turn it on, the remote didn't work). The location is definitely super amazing and the world at your fingertips there - but I probably would not stay there again.

Yelp
1 star hotel at best. It's just sad, dirty and old.Thankfully the staff is too good for this place. But just don't bother. I mean back in the day $57 US dollars & a 3 star hotel in Mexico went much further. Now this place behaves like this is an American high end resort. It's just not cute. The staff- they're too good (too good for this place) but they make it tolerable.

Wendi A.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, clean, attentive and convenient location. The room is well stocked and has great air conditioning.

Yelp
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION..... when my friends were renting overpriced and beautifully furnished places way up the hill away from the beach for more than double my room price I was worried I had made a mistake but ..... they were the jealous ones ! Yes their furnishings were newer and nicer but my VIEW and LOCATION and SERVICES were way nicer! The condo renters had rude staff and lots of rules ! No daily housekeeping in all of the condos too ! I mean , I want a clean room but I'm going to puerto Vallarta for the BEACH ! I was closer to the clubs and restaurants AND by the beach ! The front desk staff is very nice and accommodating. And available 24/7. And of course you are RIGHT on the beach in Puerto Vallarta! The views are awesome with the sound of the waves from your bed ! You can run down for a morning ocean swim in 2 minutes ! Awesome ! But the biggest surprise and greatest reward is the HOUSEKEEPER : ISABEL ! She is a jewel and a treasure ! She cleaned the room with love ; you could tell she really enjoys doing a perfect job ! On her day off I REALLY noticed the difference! She pays attention to detail and does a completely thorough job and then some! She makes the cutest towel animals for the bed and bathroom ! And different every day ! She is awesome ! THANKS ISABEL !! So if your friends are too special to stay in an older cheaper hotel....let them pay more and hike up the cobblestone streets then - you will be enjoying your view ! (My shower water pressure coulda been better) All in all a great place !!

Yelp
I typically travel with no lofty expectations and I found the Hotel Empardor was very good. It doesn't promise exotic accommodations but they were clean, comfortable and convenient to the Yelapa office and many restaurants including my favorite burger place Derby City. The elevator was nice. The only thing I might change on my next visit is to request a beach view. The staff was very welcoming and showed good concern for my hospitality and comfort. All in all I would return without hesitation.

Yelp
Stained couch and chairs. Dirty stained bed. Bathroom has mold on walls and ceilings. The shower head broke off while showering. The toilet broke. The sink broke. The television hung on the wall at a crooked angle. The stove in the outdoor kitchenette did not work and there were ants all over the outside sink. The hotel did not have hot water for two days. There's a hot tub on the rooftop terrace but it's broken. All of this was in their best room. The junior suite on the fourth floor. It did have a great view but that's about it.

Justin W.

Yelp
Great location. Just a short walk to the gay beach. Affordable and basic rooms that were clean and serviced daily. The rooms were a bit dates, but we liked the affordability and hung out on the beach anyway. Air Conditioning worked. The hotel has free WiFi, beach towels, beach chairs, and umbrellas from 09:00-16:30 hours. Beautiful lobby.

Yelp
It's all about location, location & location for this place. It is centrally located yet without the price tag. If you don't care about extra fancy amenities and all you care about is a nice place to sleep this is your place. No thrills here, no pool, no fancy curtains or perks. Just a clean cheap place to sleep.

Christian T.

Yelp
Beachfront Hotel. Nice experience. I would recommend the suites (beachfront and nice)

Keith H.

Yelp
The hotel right on the beach and very good value for your money. It's not a luxury hotel bit we felt safe and the service was friendly. It's near Everything!!!

Jeff S.

Yelp
We stayed in the mini suite here and it was comfortable. The AC was a life saver. Best part about this place is the location. It is mere steps to the beach and had plenty of good restaurants within walking distance. We also had a unit that looked out into the ocean. The balcony was large with table and chairs. There were 2 beds, a couch and a fridge inside the room. The hotel's staff was very helpful. I forget his name but he was very good at helping us find places to eat, getting us taxis, and letting us know how much trips should cost. I would stay here again next time I visit PV.

Thomas R.

Yelp
This is a great Hotel for the price! Friendly staff and clean rooms. It has great views of the beach if you request a balcony. It's not the most quiet Hotel because you can hear the outside noise somewhat well, but that's part of being in Puerto Vallarta, hearing the outside sounds. At night I could mostly just hear the Beach water hitting the sand on the shore, and it was nice.

Yelp
This is an older hotel in a great location on the beach in the Romantic Zone. The room was perfectly acceptable for this type of hotel, the bed comfortable and the service fine. There is no pool. The suites face west (the ocean), away from the street. However, my balcony room was on the north side of the building, directly above the corner where Rodolfo Gomez meets Amapas. These are busy, one way streets at this point, and Si Senor restaurant is directly below, with the San Marino and an OXO across the street. The noise was almost non-stop. Trucks stopped directly below the balcony for deliveries from 7 a.m. through 2 a.m. (the Coca Cola truck stocking up the OXO at 1:30 a.m. was my favorite). The traffic backed up constantly with resulting horns blaring. Add that to the bar crowd coming home, the police ATV's and the idiot on the bicycle with the boombox who patrolled the neighborhood at all hours, and it was a nightmare to try to sleep. It got quiet between about 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. This is my 20th year staying at various properties in the Romantic Zone, and I have sometimes experienced a bit of noise, but this was beyond. I realize that this is a price to pay for being in the center of the action. I requested a room change four times while we were there, but they could not accommodate me. Just know that if you are not in a west facing suite but are on the north side balcony rooms or east side of the hotel, it is extremely noisy.

Yelp
We have been going to Puerto Vallarta for years and have stayed at many different places. We got our first indication of how our stay was going to be when we checked into our room. The pictures you see on the website are really old and do not reflect the condition of the hotel. The coffee pot was filthy and we said something to the front desk. Their response was to send a half of a scotch brite pad some kind of powered soap and a rag to our so we could clean it our selves. On our third day there we returned to the room to find a note that said they were charging us $1000.00 pesos ($55.00) for a wet mattress that they had to have cleaned. We felt the mattress and could not fine even a damp spot. We did not do anything to make the mattress wet. We asked to speak with the manager and it took a week for her to respond. She finally come to our room with a maid who pulled off the mattress cover to reveal a badly stained mattress, and the maid pointed to stain she said was ours. The manager said we must pay the $1000.00 pesos. If I had known I was sleeping on such a gross mattress I would not have slept on it.The hotel is right on the beach but has no beach access as it is controlled by Si Senor restaurant. If you want to use the lounge chairs on the beach you must pay for the privileged. There is no pool, but there is a small pool maybe twice the size of a hot tub on the fourth floor ,but it was empty. The hotel is extremely noisy at night with a lot of partying and door slamming, so don't expect for it to be quiet at night. I took pictures of the condition of the hotel but was unable to post them here. See review

Yelp
This place is a DUMP. ANTS and MOLD everywhere. You can't even leave your toiletries in the bathroom or anything in the broken down dirty kitchenette. Upon arrival the Bedding couch and chair were stained. At times there was NO WARM WATER. We had to take COLD SHOWERS. The sink fell apart. The toilet broke and the shower head fell off. The whole place smelled of mold. The WIFI does not work in the rooms. The hot tub does not work. There was a loud beeping construction truck outside the balcony from 12- 2:30 am. It was loud from the restaurant downstairs many nights past 2 in the morning. Access to the beach lounge chairs and umbrella use are misleading. The restaurant El Señor wanted us to pay for use of the lounge chairs and umbrellas. The staff is rude. Called Expedia and only got a $200 credit. The reviews and photos are misleading. Expedia should not promote this place false advertising. Stay elsewhere.

Yelp
first time at Puerto Vallarta location is perfect, it can't get any better....

Yelp
Hotel location is great right on the beach. Ian at the front desk is amazing, he provides great customer service and any information you need he can provide it for you. The staff was wonderful and very attentive. I highly recommended and would stay here again.

Yelp
Usually, I'm not the kind of person who writes reviews of any kind, but I think this time I'll break my rule. I travel to Puerto Vallarta often, and usually stayed at the Hotel Emperador. This time, I arrived to PV on a Thursday, after settling and resting for a while, went out for a walk. When I returned to the hotel, I went to bed. In the morning I noted some mosquito bites (that's what I thought they were), and since my friends were arriving later in the week, I made a mention of my mosquito bites. The second morning I woke up and my body was covered from head to toe in bites. I noted some kind bug in the linen of my bed, about the size of a sesame seed, and others already the size of a sunflower seed. Also, noted a whole bunch of specks of blood all over the bed. The itching and the number of bites were so great that soon after complaining to front desk, I went to see a doctor, who prescribed an antibiotic and medicine for the itching. Upon returning to the hotel, I noticed that they were removing the mattress from the room. The hotel staff assigned me a different room, since I had reservation for one more night. This was an experience that I do not wish upon anyone, and I will not forget in a long time. My friends, who had reservations at this same Hotel, decided to change them, after they saw how my body was full of bites. I never got any type of apology from management, no one even bothered checking how I was, or felt, on the contrary they wanted me to sign some documents releasing the hotel of any responsibility, which I did not do. Like I said in the beginning, I'm not the kind of person who complains or bothers taking legal action, but at the least I expected a formal apology which never came.
