Empire Cinema

It is a modern cinema at a cozy location. After a short delay, caused by a previously movie, i watched "Between order and chaos" which was part of the copenhagen film festival 2025. At the end of the four short movies "Instructional video no. 360" directed by Jakob Lebech Krog, "No place for a kid" dir. by Dawn Florinda Wall, "What about us" dir. by Aviaja Skotte and "Lovesick" dir. by Alexander Saul, some of the directors and one actor (Main actor from "Lovesick") were invited to a small conversation, which was pretty interesting.

Watched a danish documentary that did not have any subtitles. I found it quite sad and questionable in terms of accessibility, both as a non-danish speaker but also in terms of accessibility for people with hearing disabilities. This could have been easily fixed, making the experience enjoyable for all.

Found this place after the brewery I was going to wasn’t open yet. What a find. Loved the cinema, the interior, the seats. Films on offer. Good snack and drink selection. Watched a English film with Danish subtitles. Big seats, though they don’t recline.

Really nice theater! Super comfy seats! Only downside is the lack of candy available. But healthy people will be glad to find healthy treats!

Went here to watch Maestro and loved the movie but I really enjoyed the atmosphere, it had a good snack section with lollies that actually weren’t as stiff as bricks and had a good variety. The cinema room itself was quite small which I actually really liked as it felt more cozy. Service was good too and would recommend!

Surprised by this cozy and instantly likeable little cinema. Was here for the Copenhagen Short Film Festival. Comfortable seats, plenty of legroom and the double seats in the back row are great for couples.

Empire is the neighbourhood movie theater at Nørrebro. It's not only local people, who come here to catch the latest blockbuster. Empire is a favourite among lot's of movie fans in Copenhagen. The vipe of the theater is very laid back, and beside the normal candy, pop corn and soda, you can buy beer, and bubbles for your movie. The seats are nice, soft, and comfortable. The rear row are double seats, so you can site VERY close to your date (blink blink). Sound and screens are great. They feature main stream movies here. Remember we don't normal dub movies in Denmark, so tourists, and expats can catch a movie in the original language. I nearly gave Empire 3 stars, because of the cleaning standard at the toilets. It looks like, they have forgotten to vipe of the toilet bowl, and sinks for months.

If there ever was a hipster version of a movie theater, this is it. Perhaps I don't frequent movie theaters enough to experience their evolution, but this is the only theater I've been to where you can order coffee and beer. Seats are comfortable, both theaters I've been in were really clean (none of the quintessential shoe-sticking that happens in other theaters), and a large amount of room in the aisles (good if you're a bit personal bubbly like me). Two quirks, at least coming from my experience in American theaters and in the two theaters I've been in at this place: 1) There is only one set of stairs in the theater, meaning you're better off choosing seats closer to the one set of stairs, unless you really like getting to movies early or climbing over everyone to get to your seats at the very end of the row. 2) The projector is situated so that if people in the back row are standing up, they can completely block the projected image. It hasn't been an issue in the films I've been to, but nothing can take you out of a movie like a shadow of a fellow movie goer.

I was here for Cph:Dox to watch a movie about one of my favourite bands of all time and I had never been to Empire before. This place was hidden nicely away from the main streets, but is still located nice and quiet hidden away in Nørrebro. Because of this, I quickly got the impression that this is a great place to go for any type of movie - you just get the vibe of that this is a nice and quiet place that isn't super busy (which is a great thing) The selection for snacks and drinks isn't super impressive, but you can get the popcorn and soda, that you need. Seats were super comfortable and audio quality was subliminal - I'll definitely be coming back for more movies here

A small, charming movie theatre with kind of an "old-timey" vibe. Competing with Grand Teatret on being my favorite movie theatre in Copenhagen. It has 4 cinemas inside, with "Sal 1" being the biggest one and probably fits 200 people - yet it still feels quite cosy. Empire Bio is one of the last bastions of good cinema in Copenhagen and stands in stark contrast to almost all other movie theatres in the city, most of which have been "industrialized": stripped of any personality and charm. It used to be even better but has been streamlined a little in order to conform with the rest of Nordisk Film's cinemas. Empire Bio is a place where good movie-going experience hasn't been forgotten: no stress of getting your tickets, no pressure on buying overpriced candy and no standing in line in like boxed-in cattle. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that I remember how good it used be.

A really nice and cozy cinema that shows a variety of movies, not just mainstream, and has a wide collection of candy and jellybeans.

Most Yelp reviews will be based on very anecdotal evidence, e.g. one or two visits, and that's normally not a good thing, it's unlikely to give you a reliable view of the place you're reviewing but that's the name of the game and readers hopefully understand that. However, in this case - after 7 years and dozens of visits - I feel I'm better qualified than usual to make a review. Empire is the best cinema I've ever visited. It hasn't got the newest, most modern technology or the biggest screens, but it's got atmosphere and respectful visitors, and that's much more important in my book.

Well I do visit empire bio often, but it is one of my favourite cinemas in copenhagen. It is very close to where I live so it is easy to go to, but other than that nothing special. Now they are renovating the road to the empire and it is full of dirt and construction materials which makes it even less cosy. I mean the screens good and seats are comfortable but the cinema itself is quite dark and looks a bit cold. The candy shop has not as much variety as other larger cinemas (still good though) and generally it has always less people than any other cinema I have been to. I was once in a movie with 4 people inside counting myself and my friend. Which can be also a good thing! Depends on what people like. I give one star because it is close, one star because there are no queues and one because you can almost always get tickets.

Empire is a great place. There's no other way to say it. The entrance is grand, the auditoriums cozy and the crowd is arty in a not snooty way. Also, if you sit in the front row of the two smallest auditoriums, you get a footstool for your feet. Now, THAT is what I call beneficial! The candy selection could be better, but whatever, I'm still a fan - I just really like candy.
