12 Best Bars in Singapore | Condé Nast Traveler

"Come to Employees Only—almost a carbon copy of the now legendary original in New York City—for a raucous vibe (it’s not uncommon to see beers and shots being downed with abandon), a high-octane house Gimlet, and a tableside steak tartare that is the stuff of legend. If you’re up for a party in Singapore (despite the fact that almost every joint closes between 1–2 a.m.), then this is the place to do it." - Naren Young

One of the Asia top 50 bars. Had one of the cocktail with ginger. I like that!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 However is not so my kind of bar as the music is quite loud for me. As this is one of the famous bar, the crowd is expected. Make reservation to avoid disappointment if you can’t get a seat! 😹 There’s a little tarot reading area before you enter the bar. That’s quite interesting!

Employees Only Singapore is a magnet for interesting people that want to experience a little New York speakeasy in Singapore. There really is nothing else like it! As a long-term resident of Singapore, I have had the pleasure of frequenting Employees Only ‘EO’ on many occasions over the years. The bar is an authentic homage to speakeasies; bars that came into prominence in the U.S during the Prohibition era of the 1920’s. Shrouded in secrecy, dimly lit with no overt signage outside save the word ‘psychic’ emblazoned in red neon and yes, they have a fortune teller. The EO team are professional, customer focused and do an amazing job in an often-congested environment. It’s a busy place and it gets a crowd after 9pm. The prohibition style cocktails list is huge and if it’s not listed, they will make it. All cocktails are made to order, no pre-mixed old fashion’s here. You’ll get the full-pour too so watch out! The food is a standout surprise. Some of the dishes I’ve tried (many times now) include oysters on the half shell which are exceptional and among the best in Singapore, the Maryland style crab cakes, authentic and flavor packed, the hand-cut steak tartare is one of the best in town and very popular. If tartare isn’t your bag, then get the strip steak, its magnificent and great value. If you want spice, try the spicy lamb meatballs they are delicious and huge. Comfort food? Get a grilled cheese sandwich served on brioche with a hint of truffle or any of the burger configurations which come with amazing fries. Important to note: if you want a more laid-back speakeasy experience go early and book a table in the back. For something more interesting and intense get seats at the bar. Later, it will be standing room only, if you have not booked, which is not to everyone’s liking. EO is one of the most popular places to go in Singapore and gets super busy. Some will be critical of this establishment during busy periods which is a little unfair considering the dedication the EO team. Stay until closing and you will be served the famous EO Chicken Soup gratis! It comes in a teacup which is a nod and a wink to the prohibition era when the hooch was served in teacups. Highly recommended.

Google
On first glance this looks to be just a cocktail bar. But i was pleasantly surprised at their food quality. Appetiser was filling with crab meat, main course also on point - wagyu burger tasty (should consider change of sauce though), brick chicken tender but crispy. Desserts was average but not disappointing. Overall worth coming once. 👍

Google
Heard a lot of good stuffs about Employees Only before visiting and I found out the experience I had is way beyond my imagination! The bartenders there are not just professional in cocktail customization but extremely hospitable and charismatic! I really enjoy watching them dancing while making cocktails when the bar turn into a even more lively club after 11 🤗 Thanks for marking our girls night out an unforgettable one Jez & Bryan 🌹🌹🌹

Google
Questionable music taste (two Mariah Carey songs in half an hour?!?) but super good cocktails. Expect to spend 27++ for a drink. Didn’t try the food, but there were very limited options. Decor was impeccable, no notes. Service was average. Good crowd on a Sunday night. I’ll definitely be back for the atmosphere (love the low lights) and cocktails.

If you are looking for one of the best bars in Singapore with an amazing atmosphere and knowledgeable bartenders, then look no further. Employees only is one of my favourite place for a night cap in Singapore and if you are up for a night of partying you can have it here also. Great cocktails and good vibes. Highly recommended!

Google
One of the funnest places in Singapore on a sunday night when everything else is close or about to. Great music, not so hospitable staff, bonus points for the bartenders that made my wish possible.

Google
Extremely crowded, be ready to be pushed around and jabbed. Many expats drunk and looking for truble. It took me 20 minutes to get my bill and i had to pyshed through a se of people to get my bill and credit card back. I was charged for drinks I did not have, so please pay as you buy immediately. The next time I went with two friends early at about 9.30pm and we occupied a table. At 11pm qe were rudely told by the staff to vacate the table, without any reason. There was no reserved sign on the table when we sat down and we were not told initially that the table was reserved for later, we were just told LEAVE. NOT a place I would recommend

Yelp
Love this place for drinks. Crushed with happening people. Mostly 25-35 crowd out for high end drinks, food, and even a little dancing. Had a great vibe.

Yelp
We still have yet to say here, but the drinks are fantastic! The skills & showmanship of the bartenders is fun and precise. The place is speakeasy style & you really have to know what you're looking for in order to find it.

Yelp
We came in for drinks and me and my friend- two girls after a drink we just went to the washroom to wash our hands before leave - the door man ( I am assuming the same guy who had issues with other guests - read google reviews) suddenly came and started banging out toilet doors so loudly that it freaked out both me and my friend. He almost broke the door. When I came out and asked the reason the guys yelled at me saying there was a long queue - it was literally five minutes we went in. I could hear the conversation from outside the door there was an Indian woman who skipped the Queue and lied that she was waiting there for half an hour( sure this would have been captured on cctv if the bar cares to check) and this woman ran off as soon as I asked how long was She waiting for. However in any case it was not okay for this man to come and bang our door aggressively and to that when I decently told him that was not okay to do that and he should at the very very least apologise this man told us that he didn't care and he could take the Liberty do whatever as he worked there. If the owner or the manger reads this- please consider this a feedback and no one wants to be treated like this. There are educated people who come to this bar and pay for services, keep your staff in check unless you want to run some cheap establishment. He was clearly high either drunk or something else and extremely aggressive. When I pulled my phone to take the video of his behaviour to us this guy even got more aggressive. At least one of bar staff came up to us to ask and help try and resolve the situation and made an effort to understand ( this guy was actually the person that the woman was complaining to, as I recognise his voice and he had told the woman that someone was inside, she had to simply wait - professional), but this man came out of context and conversation and started harassing us. We clearly left this place feeling disturbed by this whole incident, what next he would have broken into the toilets if he wanted "because he worked there". It's not okay to behave this way in a public establishment to paying customers, this is not a bouncer run club where we are drunk or doing something wrong. We paid, we did nothing wrong and left just on time we were suppose to leave and we were just two women that this guy tried to bully in a public place because he thought he could and he was the service staff. If you are unable to be sober you should not be working at a public establishment anyways. My friend actually pointed out that once she was here previously this same guy looked drunk and had misbehaved with her and another girl at the entrance. I have been to this bar in the past both in Singapore and New York and on the past they were so good but definitely this was a first experience in my life at any bar that left a sour taste and definitely my last at employees only. Please take some action against this sort of behaviour, instead of condemning your customers with comments like below. I would share this with anyone who want to go there, go to bars next door there is flamingo, cudroy etc that don't harass women and customers or encourage this sort of behaviour.

Yelp
EO is definitely worth a trip if you're into craft cocktails and good times. The mixologists are legit here, though I think the menu items may have better consistency. The black diamond was pretty unique, thought the plum was a bit too sweet after a few sips. Be sure to try the tartare if you're looking for a quick bite. Not sure how busy it gets on weekdays, but I stopped by on a random Sunday night and it was a "good" crowd. Ended up being a wild night when multiple body shots were being poured/consumed~ Had a great time with the people I met at the bar here. Will come back if I'm in the area again and feel like splurging a bit.

Yelp
Great vibe here - happened to chance upon it as we were looking for another place but couldn't find it. It was the first weekend that music was allowed to be played again in restaurants and bars and whoever's playlist it was, *thumbs up* - old school R&B is always a good time! Great service all around.

Yelp
EO setting up shop in Singapore is the main reason I became aware that the city has an amazing cocktail scene. While there are certainly a ton of other bars with perhaps more innovative programs and ambiance, I think EO is worth squeezing into your itinerary. They were packed the night I showed up, yet somehow found a way to squeeze me in at the bar. They were pumping out drinks quite quickly considering they were slammed. I noticed how much fun the bartenders were having while still maintaining professionalism. That is a delicate balance not always achieved. The bartenders were also excited to recommend other bars to visit while I was in town.

Yelp
The drinks here are amazing. I loved everything I ordered!!! Even though they could cheat and pre-mix their drinks, they don't do that so everything comes out tasting fresh and amazing. When I wasn't very inspired by the menu and ordered some classic cocktails, they also added their own twist to them and they were absolutely delicious. I've tried: - Fraise Sauvage: perfect for someone who loves refreshing drinks - extremely delicious - Provencal: super interesting with savory notes from the herbes de provence, loved it! - Ready Fire Aim: did not expect to love this because of the mezcal, but they balanced out the smokiness really well - Red Dawn: delicious and didn't have the earthiness from the beetroot at all - Mata Hari: so. yummy. The pomegranate juice really adds a delicious touch - Ginger Smash: refreshing - Negroni (single glass, not on the menu): super well balanced, very good version of this classic drink - Aviation (not on the menu): absolutely delicious! They added their own twist to it and I loved it - Corpse Reviver (not on the menu): delicious but I preferred other versions I've had - Daily Daisy: this was a frozen Sangria when I visited recently, it's deliciously spiced and not too strong The food here is also pretty good for a bar - not exactly the only reason I'd visit but they were delicious. The skate wing is a specialty here and tastes great with the paprika sauce and spaetzle. The service is great if you're at the bar and only have to deal with the bartender. If you're seated at a table, the service can be slow because the servers are super busy. If you make a reservation, you'll have to sit at a table away from the bar since the bar is walk-in only. Also, if it were up to me, I'd only visit in the early evening. It gets crowded, rowdy and the music is way too loud past 9pm. For a bar where I'd like to have a nice conversation with people, it's extremely unfriendly when it gets that late. I'm taking one star off for the price (so. expensive.) and the noise level past 9pm. Otherwise, this place has 5-star worthy drinks!!! Would love to visit the NY store to try their drinks.

Yelp
Went here for a team dinner and you defiantly have to call in advance. At least a couple days. We got to order from the prefix menu and the food was great along with service. Starters: beef tartare. Grilled beet salad. Octopus. Mains: 400g steak to share. Pork chop. Grilled sea bass. Dessert. This is something I would go back to in a heartbeat! The cheesecake was so light And fluffy I literally thought I was eating a marshmallow! The flourless chocolate cake was not as thick as it sounds and was great with the mint whipped cream. The Apple fritter was great but after we all finished we ordered more of the cheesecake. Yes it was that good! All in all ambiance is great and coming here for a nightcap is highly recommended. They also do this polite thing where if they think you're drunk at the bar, they serve you a cup of chicken soup! Genius! To end all thoughts. Come here for some experimental drinks and desserts!

Yelp
When I first moved to Singapore I was pretty surprised to see the craft cocktail scene JUST starting to heat up. After all, craft cocktails had been going strong in the US for years and years, so it was like going back in time. Nonetheless, when I heard Employees Only was making its way to town, I was definitely excited, as I had been to the NY location, and I knew without a doubt it was going to be done well. I was right. I've been to Employees Only twice, once on a date, and once with a friend. The first time was packed wall to wall with young pretty something expats and locals on dates, groups, and trying to hit the town. The place is trendy no doubt, and the ever so handsome bartenders def. know what they are doing, which I appreciate. The second time was a little strange, as a mid 30 something I was the youngest person there, which I didn't mind, as that rarely happens in Singapore. The music is always on point, and either way, the vibe is cool. As far as the cocktails go, yes, they are expensive, but what in Singapore isn't. I've had one of the ginger smash, excellent, some champagne cocktail I believe, and a Manhattan, which was easily one of the best I've had. They also have food which I wasn't aware of, so perhaps next time I'll try dinner. Def. a nice date place, or stop in for a drink.

Yelp
A fast paced but still chill bistro. A fabulous selection of drink mixology with a nice food menu on top. Break out your wallet, as drinks will run at 20+$, but I don't feel cheated on the quality, quantity or originality. Try the West Side or Ginger Smash. For good, we started with the Spicy Crispy Prawns. They were a bit of Singapore meets LA. Spicy yet sophisticated. Dinner was the Porterhouse Pork Chop. Perfectly prepared and presented. Service was fast and professional. Will return

Yelp
Employees Only is one of the few cocktail bars in the Tanjong Pagar area that's open on Sundays. As with most fancy cocktail places in Singapore, drinks here run for about $25++ each. I enjoyed the Ready Fire Aim cocktail, a refreshing and smoky mezcal-based concoction with pineapple and lime. If you enjoy lavender, go for the Provençal cocktail, which has a strong floral profile balanced with a heavy measure of gin. Be warned that this bar can get quite noisy. It's probably not the place to visit if you're looking for a quiet place to grab a drink.

Yelp
Good cocktails, good service, mediocre food. Went for dinner on a Saturday night. The cocktails were well made and satisfying, the appetizers were even quite good, but the entrees were underwhelming and uninspired. Note, the food was cooked well, but for the price, I expected more flavor, better presentation, something more. Would go back, but only to have a couple drinks or an appetizer - so many places in Singapore to have a nice meal with better value for the price - hence the 2 stars. Recommend making a reservation for a table if you want drinks - walking out, the bar was overwhelmingly packed, could barely walk out. Also, the staff was quite nice and attentive despite being very busy. Food: Steak Tartar - really really good. The final mix of ingredients is done at the table and tailored to your preference. highly recommend Bone marrow poppers - pretty good, but would rather get two steak tartars Pork chop - Juicy and well cooked, but lacked flavor. Comes with black eyed peas which were nice, but I didn't care for the combination. Trout - Cooked very nicely, but I thought it lacked seasoning or flavor. Comes with a frisse which was really really good. Kale - side. Sauteed with a little garlic, good, but pretty standard Drinks: Manhattan - very good Ginger smash - nice and refreshing

Yelp
Employees Only is a originally from NYC in the West Village, and on the most recent best bars of the world list, it is #4. And it certainly doesn't disappoint. But first a warning - like jekyl and hyde, the experience can be very different. If you go early, expect a serene scene with some of the best cocktails on the island. On ladies night, it can get pretty crazy with wall to wall people, but you will still get solid drinks...eventually :). I had a chance to try 3 cocktails recently, and while they were classic cocktails, they were all so good - expertly executed with a generous serving. My first drink was off of their menu - the Billionaire Drink, which was a very tasty combo of Bourbon, lemon juice, grenadine and absinthe bitters (yum!). I love the mix of bourbon and fresh lemon juice, and this drink exemplifies this well. Next up, I had an old fashioned with my favorite rye whiskey - Michters. Solid! Finally, I tried a pisco sour which is very luscious with the egg whites and some freshly grated nutmeg. The food menu is also very interesting with everything from salads and pastas to steak and rainbow trout! Employees Only in NYC is well-known for being able to adapt to each customer. In Singapore, I can also see the concept working here, although things can get pretty crazy late in night.

Yelp
This place is totally fun and a great place to get your drink on. The cocktails are all great, the best part about this place is the bartenders and the music. So fun, so sexy!

Yelp
If you have been to New York and visited the EO there, you know what to expect: a perfect american bar with bar classics, infused boze and some dining. This bar is a copy of the original, including the "psyche" sign in the entreance window and the "beware..." over the bar. No experiments. While the bar is slioghtly smalle than the original, the drinks are the same. Jalapeno infised chartreuse and other self made ingredients are also availiable there as their well known food. If you want to be on the safe side when getting a drink, you will be fine here, if you want some more local style, you need to go elsewhere. Slightly more expensive thant the other SG bars.

Yelp
The best cocktail bar in the city, with killer food to match. Bar none! Come here if you want to have an epic night. Come here if you want to have a low key dinner. Truly perfect for both and anything in between.

Yelp
Some of the best mixology in SG. Barman Evan is a trip and worth a good conversation. Rarely can you find a good conversationalist behind a bar in this city. Food, super good. Expensive, yes. Worth it? For sure. Always has an interesting, stylish crowd as well.

Yelp
After a beautiful night out in Singapore with amazing food and service, we decided to stop by Employee's Only for a drink. We've lived in Singapore for 3 years and this was the single worst experience we've ever had. It was pretentious, but without the ambiance, food, drinks (or service) to back it up. There are so many other options nearby, this is definitely a pass.

Yelp
Great place to hang, amazing drinks and Ben is the awesome bar tender!! Loved every moment.

Yelp
I'm sorry to have to say this by EO NYC isn't as good as this spot. The bartenders at EO Singapore are incredible. We stopped into EO to have a drink and I immediately noticed from the sidewalk the curtains just like in NYC. The art deco decor is on point and they have most of the same drinks with a couple of other new favorites. One of the bartenders beat out his fellow coworkers in a competition with a drink called the Black diamond. It was the best drink I've had in a long time. The staff was unreal friendly. We're only in town for a short period of time 3 nights, but I'm making sure we swing back by one more time. Can't say enough good things.
