We visited Empress on Sunday for my dad’s birthday lunch, and overall the experience was wonderful and the view was amazing. Hugo was our main server — he seemed a little brisk at first, but later took the time to explain why he hadn’t been able to introduce the dishes earlier. He even returned at the end of the meal to thoughtfully go through everything we had ordered, which we really appreciated. The rest of the team was friendly as well.
Ordering could be improved — it took quite some time for the waiter to manually key in our handwritten list, since one of us was vegetarian. It would be much more efficient for both staff and guests if the restaurant could implement a digital ordering system to make tracking orders easier.
Most of the dishes were exceptional. For dim sum, we loved the har gau, siew mai, dried scallop & shredded duck porridge, steamed mushroom & corn dumplings (mild but still delicious), and prawn and croutons with seaweed & pork floss. The sliced fish, spinach & shredded ginger porridge was a little bland, and the egg custard buns weren’t as lava-like as expected.
For desserts, the sticky date & longan pudding was excellent, and Never Too Matcha is highly recommended for matcha lovers. Among the mains, both the crispy-battered halibut fillet and seared Angus beef tenderloin cubes were perfectly executed, and the king prawn dumpling supreme broth was absolutely worth ordering.
Parking can be a little tricky, so it’s best to plan some extra time if you’re driving.
