Where was ‘Thursday Murder Club’ Filmed? | Condé Nast Traveler

"Standing in the village of Englefield a few miles west of Reading in Berkshire, this Elizabethan pile is used onscreen to represent Coopers Chase and was James Merifield’s first choice for its logistics, geography, elegance and scale. I learned the house once belonged to the Englefield family before being seized by Elizabeth I and passed to Sir Francis Walsingham; his descendants still own it. Although the house isn’t open to the public, its gardens can be visited on Mondays and the estate is available for weddings, parties and summer pop concerts. Englefield has popped up in many films and TV shows (it doubled as Sandringham in The Crown, Buckingham Palace in The King’s Speech, Hellman Hall in Cruella and the Xavier Academy in X‑Men: First Class, and even featured in Netflix’s Too Much), and for The Thursday Murder Club the production rebuilt an Orangery to house the Jigsaw Room so the characters could sit and look out at the llamas, the croquet and the mobility scooters zooming past. Inside, the main spine of the building—corridors, entrance and staircase—was used to lead to character rooms, while detailed sets conveyed status and personality: Elizabeth’s ‘Gold Package’ room with high ceilings and objets d’art, Ibrahim’s Gentleman’s Club room with half panelling and a Chesterfield, Joyce’s floral, ‘Lemon Drizzle Cake’ Laura Ashley type room, and Ron’s lad’s attic with a punchball, flatscreen and beer pump." - James Medd

A nice Manor House with some stunning architecture and beautiful surrounding grounds. Each summer the estate hosts the Heritage Live events where well known acts perform on a temporary stage. These events have a good selection of facilities and vendors but there is a serious traffic management issue for them, with it taking up to two hours to exit the site after an event.

We were there for the Beach Boys concert. The sound and sight lines were good the toilets adequate and lots of food places. Entry was efficient, exit very poor but much better than Audley End. The big problem is that we could not take in food but there was almost nothing gluten free and what there was sold out quickly. This is not acceptable.

An absolutely fantastic venue showcasing The Jacksons, Sister Sledge and Boney M The facilities were on point. Adequate toilets which were very clean and provided excellent quality hand gel. The Disabled enclosure offered comfortable seating, spacious passages for wheelchair access. Extremely attentive staff who fetched drinks orders and a bar service. They also checked in to ensure we were all OK. There were plenty of food stalls with a variety of delicious choices. The acoustic quality was amazing and the lights were sufficient come sundown. This event was aptly set in the grounds of the impressive Englefield Estate which was perfect for an unforgettable experience. Thank you to all the organisers who made this event so special

Saw Beach Boys, their only UK show, back up was Lulu & David Essex & Buddy Holly & the Cricketers, lovely outdoor venue, although, paid for VIP area & not enough chairs put out, ended up having to buy 2 deck chairs & had to carry them back about 500 yards, then to be told, the VIP area was full & then wasn't allowed to put the deck chairs up..anyways, ignored that, found a bit of space & sat down. They also could of put food outlets in the VIP area, very long lines for food outside of the VIP area. The only advantage of paying the extra for VIP was the toilets ! Good show though & lovely venue 👌

Had a great time at a Heritage Live gig at Englefield Estate. Gorgeous setting, good vibes, and it actually felt like a proper festival - with enough bars and loos (rare). Busy but not rammed, which made it all the more enjoyable. Only complaint was the chaos getting out at the end, but that aside, really fun night out.

This fantastic hidden gem of a garden is open to the public on Mondays only so plan your day accordingly! Once in the carpark, the formal gardens are just down beside the house to the left and the pleasure grounds are up the hill to the right. Be sure to find the grotto covered with pine cones in a decorative pattern!

A fantastic venue, beautiful house and scenery. We visited to watch a gig set in the grounds. Leaving the car park afterwards was horrendous, taking over an hour to get out and there being a punch up between 3 guys about someone cutting in. If the venue is going to agree to hold these events, it really needs to make sure the promoters have everything in order.

The website said there are no toilet or refreshment facilities at the gardens, but there were toilets and a pop-up charity cafe in the gallery at the entrance to the gardens.
