Enoshima Shrine Hetsumiya

I absolutely loved my visit to Enoshima Shrine Hetsumiya; it was a beautiful walk filled with stunning views and unique charms at every turn. Passing through the massive red torii gate and seeing the intricate dragon statue were highlights for me, and I couldn't resist picking up one of the "Safe Driving" amulets for 1,000 yen. While there are definitely a lot of stairs to climb, the peaceful atmosphere and the scenery made it completely worth the effort, and I appreciated having the option of the "Enoshima Escar" escalators when I needed a break. It was a truly memorable experience that felt like a perfect blend of nature and tradition.

Finally made it to Enoshima Shrine Hetsumiya! After battling the August heat and those relentless stairs, reaching this point felt like a true achievement. This is where the Kessoku Band gathered to offer their prayers, and just a few steps away is the spot where they finally collapsed to rest and eat. Standing here, I can perfectly picture them sitting together, exhausted but happy, sharing that classic Enoshima vibe. There’s a certain peace at this shrine that makes you forget the climb for a moment. Following their journey from the station to this very courtyard has been an unforgettable experience. It’s the perfect place to wrap up the Bocchi the Rock! chapter of my pilgrimage. Time to find a spot to sit, just like they did, and soak it all in. ⛩️🍦 A pilgrim's reward: After reaching Hetsumiya, you’ll find the same small rest areas and shops where the characters enjoyed their snacks. In the August heat, that first sip of a cold drink or a bite of Tako Senbei (octopus cracker) feels like heaven. It’s not just about the photos anymore—it’s about sharing the same exhaustion and the same relief as the characters we love.

Great views and coming in December means they had the seasonal festive lights up. Quite a walk from the station and also a lot of stairs to get up to the top unless you pay a little over 200 yen for the escalators. However I did not see an escalator going down, only up. Well worth the view and for the young and healthy I don't think it was that many steps just more than expected.

Worth every ¥1,100.00 of it ... you'll be silly not to walk up those stairs ... unless you are training for your competition ... Take the escalators all the way to the tower ... then enjoy every levels down from there ... maybe spend half a day there ...

We visited this Shrine and really liked it. The shrine has a nice atmosphere and beautiful views. It’s a peaceful place to explore while walking around Enoshima Island. I enjoyed the visit a lot!

It is a typical shrine as others. If you have spare time to kamakura, can spend an hour or two. Take the escar to the top.

Definitely recommend visiting. Don’t take the escalators up if not in a hurry as the climb isn’t too long and it even has a few viewpoints that you might miss. Pay the 800Yen for the evening ticket if you think you might end up leaving at 5:01pm as otherwise you end up paying a thousand. Definitely go up to the non-glasses deck and try to witness the sunset even if not from the observation deck. The accompanying garden was majestic even in January.

This is a good hike to reach the temple. There is an elevator nearby for a fee. It did feel rewarding to walk up to the top and it did not take too long. Other than that this seemed very unremarkable. This is an easy skip if you are short on time.
